25 Iconic Dishes That Define Rome - Rome - The Infatuation

"Some say picchiapò’s name comes from “picchia un po,” meaning “give it a little hit,” which is probably a nod to pounding the tough leftover boiled beef to tenderize it. We like to think it’s because Nonna had to smack away anyone trying to sneak a bite from the pan before dinner. The version made by Osteria Palmira stands above the rest. Picture tender, long-simmered beef slow-cooked in a slightly spicy tomato sauce, balanced by the sweetness of caramelized onions. A glass of Cesanese on the side is optional. A hunk of crusty bread to soak up every last bit is not." - annie replogle

Google
A small family owned restaurant with truly authentic Roman cuisine. A real gem. We had Amatriciana pasta, fried artichoke, and Saltimbocca alla Romana. These were true culinary masterpieces. Simple food ,prepared in an authentic way! The tastes and textures blended to perfection. Absolutely recommend!

Check out the pictures for the vibes and food we ordered! The experience was great! Friendly vibes within the small space! Had Gricia and Cacio e pepe! Both were strong flavoured but the quality of the pasta were handmade and delicious! Closes @ 11pm!

Great late night stop. We came here after being told La Sagra del Vino was closed at 23:00 which Google map said midnight. Food was pretty good and service wasn't bad at all. Thanks for feeding us!

Google
Small,.quiet restaurant on a side street of Rome. Amazing is the one word I would use. I decided on a Suppli for starters followed by the traditional Soaghetti Bolognais, and finished it with a Panna Cotta. The food was simple and delicious, no extra stuff to fancy it up. The pasta was fresh and clearly home made, the Bolognais was hearty and delicious. The meal came with some fresh sour dough bread, a full basket which made it impossible not to overeat. Portion control and good food are not a good combination for me. The service was very friendly and not rushed. Will definitely come back on my next visit to Rome.

Google
Lovely little Roman restaurant. Service staff very accommodating and helpful. Food was great other than a few items on the menu not being available at the time but the food we did try was more than adequate.

Massive portion sizes and some of the best pasta I’ve had. It’s super reasonably priced too.

Nice little place. Friendly server. Good food. Good price. Some menu items they didn’t have but no big deal. Enjoyable experience. American couple followed is here as they were looking for a spot to eat. I think they also enjoyed it. 3 dishes, water, covers for 3 people €50.

Family dinner in last night of Rome. We ordered a few antipastos, pastas and prima dishes to share for the table. Everything was delicious! We made reservations but at 7:30 there was only one other table. For a small group you'd probably be able to get in without a reservation.

Yelp
Most of the menu was sold out this late in the day! Every dish was amazing! Desserts even better! Service exceptional, very friendly!

Yelp
We came here as a last minute dining option as we had a long layover and every restaurant was near closing by the time we arrived. We had basically only the option of the last 2 menu items. The eggplant parmesiana was amazing and the meatballs were very good as well. We are always grateful for places that accommodate us even when we arrive late and don't speak the language. Best of all, we had a great meal, with a great carafe of house wine, great service and at a great price. We will definitely come again and at the regular dining time to avoid any inconvenience to these fine people.

Yelp
We ate here 2 times and both time were exceptional. Great prices and quality of food. They were very accommodating for our party of 9 and took very good care of us. Would definitely recommend and go back whenever in Rome.

Yelp
My husband ordered lasagna at this place. When the food was delivered, he was served spaghetti with meat sauce. He reminded the waiter he ordered lasagna and was told, "No, spaghetti." After several go arounds like this, the waiter finally got across that they were out of lasagna and just decided he should eat spaghetti. My husband asked why they didn't come out and tell him so he could make another selection...didn't matter, he was stuck with spaghetti (which turned out to be tasty). Pretty frustrating.

Yelp
Don't go!!!!!!!! Small menu.... overlooked that at first. Mediocre food for the plates which were decent. Terrible wait staff!!!! Never came over to ask how our meals were. My daughter's veal was so salty, it was inedible! We took one bite each. When the waiter finally came over, we told him. They still charged us for it. Ridiculous!!
