A Foothills staple since the 1990s, this family-owned spot pairs mountain views with Southern Italian comfort—house gnocchi, seafood lasagna, and the beloved Pope’s Pillow dessert. Profiled by regional publications, it’s a local rite of passage for birthdays, anniversaries, and lingering Sunday suppers.

Wow, this was a great Italian restaurant option that must just go overlooked since it is near-ish to La Encantata and similar restaurants there. Trattoria Pina is tucked away across from the grocery store and not too noticeable from the street. They were ~70% full on a Saturday evening and could take walk-ins, though after eating there I'm surprised that they aren't packed. The atmosphere inside is calm and well designed to keep dining areas quiet and noise separated between tables. The focaccia bread came out nice, warm, fresh, and fluffy and with an oil dip (though this could've used spices). The minestrone soup and dinner salad were very tasty as well. The soup hearty and well seasoned. The spicy garlic gnocchi was very pillowy and not necessarily spicy. The ravioli was very tasty as well. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try!

We had a nice dinner here. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. There’s a good selection of food choices. They have a full bar. Our waiter was friendly and attentive but we never felt like we were being rushed. Both of our meals were really good as well as our dessert. The restaurant is easy to find and there was plenty of parking. Can definitely recommend.

My husband and I came here for lunch last week. We were seated next to the big window in front of the mountain view which made the experience even better. The waitress was very kind and helpful. The food was delicious and very authentic, especially the dessert. The tiramisù was one of the best I have ever had and the espresso was also very well made. We would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back.

Trattoria Pina is a warm and cozy family run establishment that welcomes you with a smile. The open kitchen, full of clamoring and chaos, spills into the dining floor, almost supplementing the murmur of conversation, footsteps of the staff, and the sporadic clinking of flatware. The service tonight by Alex, along with his supporting staff, was impeccable; crisp, precise, accommodating, and patient. The meal began with a caprese with excellent tomatos and beautiful mozzarella. The cheese ravioli was wonderful; the pillow of perfectly cooked pasta, casing smooth and creamy filling full of flavor. The sauce was slightly watery, and the chicken was lacking flavor and just ever so over cooked, but combined with the other flavors on the plate it wasn't a huge detriment. With a pleant cappuccino to complete the meal, I'm definitely returning in the future to see what other dishes have in store.

Google
Lunch pasta dish was average at best. Bread was good. Desert was huge and tasted alright, but frozen. House wine was $11.75 per glass and service was beyond slow. Many other restaurants in town to try. Probably won’t be back.

We recently moved to Tucson and just found our new favorite place. Trattoria Pina has everything––fantastic atmosphere with a great view of the Catalina Foothills, friendly staff, and wonderful food. The scampi portofino is perfect, with giant shrimp, artichokes, mushrooms, and capers all in a well-balanced wine wine and lemon sauce over pasta. The lasagna comes in its own giant baking dish. No one even came close to finishing their enormous portions. Meals are served with minestrone or salad and incredible rosemary bread with a balsamic and olive oil dip. The desserts look incredible, tiramisu, cannolis and a few others. Unfortunately, we didn't save room this time. Next time, we'll also try the personal wood-fired pizzas that looked and smelled amazing. The best part of the night was the incredible waiter. Though every table was filled, this waiter worked the room like a consummate professional. Our water was never empty and the bread basket was always full. Everything was perfectly timed––we waited the perfect amount of time to allow for conversation, but not too long for teens to get bored. We're looking forward to our next special occasion to visit again.

Google
We hosted our son and new daughter in laws wedding rehearsal dinner at Trattoria Pina. It was fabulous! They have a seperate room off the restaurant. The atmosphere was so romantic and classy. Pina, the owner, is the most beautiful person. She's so kind and caring. Pina and her staff made the night so wonderful! I would host another party or even a meeting there in a heartbeat! The food was so delicious! And the desserts! Even more delicious! They even have a tiramisu martini that is to die for! We can't thank you enough, Pina and staff, for such a memorable evening! We will see you soon for another delicious meal! ❤️

Yelp
Just made dinner reservations for Tomorrow night. We will Celebrate two birthdays, so a good night to add desert.

Yelp
We were seated beside the large windows with beautiful mountain views. The service was attentive, refilling our water and asking if we wanted more focaccia bread. The entrees were seasoned well and they were large portions, enough to take home. Make sure to save room for dessert because it was amazing.

Yelp
Trattoria Pina is a gem! I ate here for a birthday dinner and everything was delicious from start to finish. The bread and olive oil/ vinegar to start is fresh and flavorful, and the entrees come with your choice or garden salad or minestrone. The minestrone is excellent! I had the gnocchi (made in house) with arrabiata sauce, and added ricotta. The portions are very large and everyone had leftovers. Others in my party ordered the sausage pasta and penne arrabiate, no complaints with their selections. The house wine is a Chianti and is very good. We finished the meal with a couple of espressos and their famous "Pope's Pillow" which is a beautiful combination of puff pastry, Bavarian cream, and fresh strawberries. So light after a rich dinner. The waitstaff and bussers and very attentive. We will certainly be back!

Connie C.

Yelp
Excellent service, Blanco e nero x2, and I had the salmon, desert was tiramisu drinks, a bottle chardonnay Tormaresca, and a tiiramisu martini. We will be back!

Yelp
For lunch, we had the Fettuccine Vanessa which included grilled chicken strips, a light cream sauce, tiny cut up broccoli, and hint of tomatoes. I wish there had been more tomatoes. The dish came with a side of what appeared to be corn bread with a twist because it apparently was infused with garlic. There was enough for two people! Service was great as was the ambiance. Note that there were cloth tablecloths, nice cutlery, etc. Worth it!

Yelp
Food excellent. Service excellent. Prices moderate. Can't wait to go back. Was there for happy hour. Must be among the best in Tucson.

Yelp
Trattoria Pina is a fave of mine so I was thrilled to go on Valentine's Day for an amazing dinner (so good that we started eating before remembering to take pictures)! We were thrilled to get same day reservation and although we arrived a bit early they got us seated in the beautiful dining room and our waiter Rocco took amazing care of us! They started us off with delicious bread and oil basalmic dipping sauce and I ordered the create your own pizza with green olives and pepperoni and my date had the Medaglione di Vanessa. The pizza was perfectly made, the cheese was nice and melty and the toppings were flavorful. The cheese raviolis were very good, perfect sauce, the only feedback was the chicken was a tad tougher than we would have liked but the dish was still yummy. The food was out in a timely manner and the prices are terrific based on the location. Super nice place for a date night and they made our Valentine's dinner one for the books!

Yelp
Sebastian let us take our time, served us an excellent dinner bringing a very nice dining experience. Excellent food, nice ambiance with great service.

Yelp
We had a group dinner for 12 at TP on June 19th. As always, and we have eaten here many times, the food was wonderfully prepared and the service was prompt and personable. Highly recommended and we will return. A solid 4+ star restaurant.

Yelp
We are from out of town and were looking for a nice, and slightly casual restaurant to celebrate and birthday. So glad we found this place! Service was excellent - Kevin was considerate, made great recommendations and the staff worked well together filling drinks, removing plates and boxing leftovers. Definitely a warm family friendly vibe and perfect ambiance for a celebration. They were gracious to recognize a birthday at our table with a delicious orange amaretto cake that was delightful. The meatball appetizer was terrific (meat was light and tender and marinara was full of flavor but not too much garlic), their focaccia bread perfectly baked, the pizza was cheesy and the scampi portofino was light and flavorful with big chunks of mushrooms and artichoke hearts. If we lived here, we would be regulars.
google avatar

Yelp
Make sure to come for their happy hour deals, specifically their Thursday deals are awesome! You can get a wine flight for $10! Also, their complimentary bread is sooo good. I got the gnocchi on their happy hour menu which was awesome and my fiancé got the lasagna which was way too salty and not very good.. so maybe pass on that. We also got their stuffed mushrooms which were also subpar. All in all, they've got pretty good deals and their happy hour menu is good! We will be back.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The service was excellent. Great atmosphere and view of the mountains. The prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Indoor and outdoor seating . Good service. Happy Hour that you don't have to sit at a bar to enjoy. The tiramisu martini was well balanced and too easy to drink one too many! The Fettuccine Quattro Sapore was different as it was not the usual chicken accompanied but rather a ground sausage with a balanced ( not overpowering) Gorgonzola cream sauce. The Bianco e Negro was aesthetically fun to eat with a combination of white and squid ink noodles giving it the appearance of black and white noodles. It's a busy place - reservations recommended.

Yelp
Some of the best Italian in Tucson. Incredible food, drinks, and overall ambiance. Haven't tried a bad thing yet!

Yelp
The food is delicious! The atmosphere is quaint and I recommend making a reservation. We got stuck in a dark corner and missed happy hour because we waited forever for our server to come, but the food made up for it. We had the calamari and even though it wasn't fried, the sauce saved the day. The calamari itself was chewy but the tomato sauce was savory. The ravioli was rich and cheesy and the chicken was delicious. The black and white pasta with scallops and shrimp was good but could have used a little garlic. The scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Sadly we were too full for dessert but they all looked delicious.

Yelp
I went lunch and ordered the eggplant with cheese and marinara sauce. It was beautifully prepared. I ordered the salmon a la griglia to go and tiramisu. This order was for a friend who is housebound. She said "it was absolutely delicious ". Our server was very attentive and he had a great personality. I love this restaurant. The food is never a disappointment.

Yelp
Trattoria Pina just might be the best Italian food in Tucson. At least the best I've tried to date. Wonderful location near the corner of Sunrise and Swan. They have a giant full wall window that allows you to look at the nearby Catalinas. They have an awesome happy hour and so the wifey and I grazed off that menu rather than getting entrees but maybe next time. You also get complimentary bread and oil/vinegar for dipping. The happy hour portions were great for splitting between the two of us and so delicious. We went with the meatballs, gnocchi, and stuffed mushrooms. The meatballs were huge and moist. The sauce they are in was yummy and sweet, they use good tomatoes. The gnocchi was also a huge hit we both enjoyed although the alfredo it is in was a little watery but still delicious flavor. I liked the mushrooms. I felt they were good but not great. The wifey was not a huge fan of them as they did not come with a sauce. I finished them. We also split a Caesar salad that had a perfect lettuce, crouton, dressing ratio and was fresh. We did buy dessert but got it to go. I got pumpkin cake which is terrific. I'm a huge pumpkin fan and they nailed it. The wifey got cannolis and by her standards which are incredibly high, they are the best cannolis in Tucson, and a close second for in Arizona. Absolutely will be back again to try more delicious items. Also the server was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.

Yelp
Without a doubt my favorite Italian napoletan restaurant in Tucsonreminds me of the flavours I grew up with . Their gnocchi is like my Nonas gnocchi . And I've never had a bad meal there. We're going there tonight to celebrate our 46th anniversary

Yelp
We came here for New Year's Eve dinner. We were surprised to be able to grab a reservation on such busy day. We decided to try one of the Specials which consisted of a plate of angel hair spaghetti with Marinara sauce, 2 stuffed mushrooms and 2 shrimps. (A little skimpy for the price $30) and the Risotto Luca (very tasty with 4 shrimps and bits of bacon). For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse cake and it was extremely sweet for my tastebuds ( almost had a heart attack). I was disappointed of them running out of Malbec, I couldn't find anything else to drink. Service was courteous.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Service was good. Kind of expensive though. Tiramisu was delicious.

Yelp
Hadn't been here since covid hit but glad to return with a friend. Masks are optional but servers are wearing them. I had the salad called the capesante due sorelle which wAs excellent. It had grilled scallops, dried cranberries, almonds, bacon, strawberries, mixed greens, and cranberry poppyseed citrus dressing. The mix of flavors worked very well to compliment the scallops. The portion was generous and I took half home for later. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was that the bread was a bit hard when usually it is very fresh. The dessert selection has a couple of new items and all of them were extremely tempting and very hard to resist. I'll have to try one some day. Will go back again.

Yelp
Last night I ordered traditional Lasagna. I would call it SLOP!! Totally unconstructed with loose overcooked noodles in disarray on the bottom and runny sauce poured over the top, definitely not baked in layers! Topped with a broiled piece of cheese! Horrible!

Mark W.

Yelp
Everything was awesome it's our new Fav! Waiter: Awesome Food : Amazing Desert: out of this world We will be back at least once a week pls put fettuccine tuto Bene back on menu?
google avatar

Mandy K.

Yelp
I had driven by this place for years. I live down the street from it. I had never been and I wanted to eat alone and the parking lot looked fairly open. I pulled a u-turn on swan and went in and got a table facing swan and sunrise. They didn't have margaritas on their menu but the waiter was able to make me an incredible margarita on the spot. He used Mi Campo tequila. The fettuccine was to die for. The music was very traditional Italian, the decor was also what I'd expect from an Italian restaurant. The staff seemed genuine.
google avatar

Linda K.

Yelp
First time here very nice Italian vibe. Started with bruschetta and antipasto excellent. There were 4 of us and we all had a form of pasta. All enjoyed our dishes. Save room for desert equally as good. Yes, I would recommend!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson! I've had so many great experiences here and the food never disappoints. Don't ever skip on dessert either!

Sarah M.

Yelp
The focaccia was the best bread I've ever had. The chicken parm and fettuccine quattro were 10/10s, as well as the ambience and service! :) wish I lived in Tucson so I could go more!

Aiden U.

Yelp
Buster Reuben was the most wonderful staff member, would come back. The best Italian restaurant in Arizona the service was great as well as the food
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. I had their special, which was alinguini with ground sausage and a pesto type sauce. It was very good. We were there for a special occasion and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Barbara K.

Yelp
Ok- so first time there last night. I had the polenta shrimp appetizer- delicious! My husband had the green mussels but as a dinner. Price went from $14 to $27!!! He was very upset that the server didn't warn him. Our grandsons shrimp scampi was very very lemony. But the wine flight was awesome! $10 for 3 nice sized carafes of wine!! Alll in all we will go back,
google avatar

Richard P.

Yelp
Everything was characterless. The house salad I'm willing to bet came out of a bag. House dressing is heavy on balsamic. Nothing offensive, but nothing good. Had chicken with, supposedly a brandy sauce. Supposedly prosciutto, although my search failed. Nothing offensive, just retirement home bland. The focaccia was sweet. That's offensive I suppose if you're taking your grandma out of the nursing home for a dinner, this will do. Excellent service
google avatar

Danielle S.

Yelp
We came here for a special occasion and fell in love with the authentic feel of the food as well as the stunning views of the Catalina's. We shared a few things and didn't find a bread, salad, entree, or dessert we didn't like! I was also incredibly late to dinner due to getting stuck at work and the servers went above and beyond to be mindful of my partner waiting but also not trying to rush him at all once he explained the situation. We will definitely be back for the views and the phenomenal food, but mostly for the superb service.
google avatar

Lana T.

Yelp
This is an Italian restaurant with very average everything.. the service was ok.... Faces were not happy or smiley and looked bored. Server rolled out of bed and put on an apron. Also slow and they disappear for too long. The napkins smelled and were stained. The olive oil was more like cooking oil with no flavor and feint color.... This is an Italian restaurant people! The least u can do is a good quality olive oil! The only thing that helped is the food was flavorful but still not a craving kind of food. not going back.... Skip it...
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
Service was AMAZING. Truly top notch class from the owner and all employees. Made the meal, even though the food speaks for itself. Server Brandon was super attentive and the owner went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. We weren't rushed but also weren't ignored. The perfect balance for an evening meal! Food was also amazing. I had the spicy garlic penne and loved it. Perfect amount of spicy and flavor in a red sauce. We also got the shrimp fettuccine and a carbonara and were all so happy with our choices. Will definitely be back! Can't wait to try more of the menu - especially the dessert menu!

Yelp
Our first time in. Trattoria Pina is hyped and people have been coming for many many years to enjoy the family establishment, so you will most likely wait for your table- like we did- 45ish minutes past our reservation time we were finally seated (I was starving and I did enjoy their house focaccia bread). It was a colder night for waiting at the tables outside, so the small front door waiting area was overwhelmingly packed with people, however the servers and staff know what they're doing and do it well... they flipped tables and stayed on top of it all. My meal was just ok- spicy sausage fettuccine with gorgonzola sauce but it seemed to be more of a butter/cream sauce (sad to say but Olive Garden's is better and we hardly ever eat there)... I reheated leftovers the next day and my noodles were swimming in a pool of butter. Other things at the table: grilled veggie app- yum but needs more goat cheese plated, shrimp/artichoke/polenta app- good but swimming in butter and salt, Caesar- which we paid an extra $5 for (each!) had the hardest croutons ever and way too many salty sardines on top (*this is a skip unless we just caught a really off night for their Caesar; others at the table had the house salad and it looked great- more personality than the Caesar for sure), chicken parm/eggplant parm/Italian marinara trio- all pretty delicious but marinara is on the sweeter side. We had two birthdays at the table we were celebrating- I mentioned when making the reservation and was told they do a fun birthday thing; they brought out the desserts which weren't as impressive as I wanted and they were out of the one we wanted (limoncello something or other) so we opted for a cannoli... our server put one candle in the cannoli and took it off our bill. I wouldn't call it "special" but it was nice and he was great, no doubt. There were 4 of us- we did have 2 bottles of wine and our bill was around $300; for the price point I just really wanted and expected a 4 or 5 star experience, this just wasn't one. *Maybe skip ordering a bottle of wine- we saw that they pour their wine by the glass to the very top, so not sure a bottle is necessary. This place is great for it's regulars (there are many- you can tell in just one visit), it's been around for a long time, it's beautiful inside and out, might be good for special occasions.... unfortunately the wait and the few other things really put a damper on this dinner out for us, which is why I went into such detail here in Yelp; maybe I came in with too high of expectations. Not sure we'll be back.

Yelp
Been meaning to come here for years, finally made it last night for a birthday dinner. It's amazing how close the Catalinas seem out the view of their big window! Service was great - the waitress was pleasant and attentive, though she could have been more helpful pointing out specials, things that were better or worse on the menu, suggesting a wine, etc. We started with a cocktail - I had a Negroni which was well-made but used a whole orange section instead of just the peel - different, but OK. Started with the mussels - they are truly spectacular! They are huge and the the caper sauce was really delicious. The cesar salad was just OK - it was very large for a side salad, but it had a sour vinegary tang to it that I did not care for. I had the trout as my entree - the fist was great and I really enjoyed the generous portion of angel hair with a really nice fresh sauce. One of the other members of our party had the seafood pasta, and thought it was just OK. We concluded it's the kind of restaurant where you have to know what to order, where some items are better than others. Going to have to go back a few times to figure it out!!

Lin D.

Yelp
Reservation was at 6pm. Server first came to the table and asked for drink orders at 6:20. Party of 9. Server brought 1small plate of bread for 9 people. Took drink order for top 2 at the table and walked away. Came back at 6:40 and took our food orders and the rest of the drink orders at that time. I asked for a straw. Salads came at 7-still no straw so I asked again. Dinner came at 7:30. I ordered spaghetti and was served mostacioll . Server asked if we wanted Parmesan and we said yes. We were never served the Parmesan. I got up and went to a buffet table where there was a bowl of Parmesan cheese and helped ourselves. A few ordered chicken dishes which the meat was extremely tough. One ordered carbonara which was oily and had no cream sauce. Additionally, it had a piece of paper in with the pasta. When it was brought to the servers attention, he apologized, said that one of the meal tickets must have fallen into the bowl. Additionally he said he would take 25% off the entire check. He later came back with the check and said that instead of giving 25% off the check, he comped the carbonara and would give us a free slice of cake. During the time that we were there, many diners were seated in our dining area, had the same server and were gone way before we were even served our meal. We had better service from the bus boys than we did from ur server. Bad experience

Gregory H.

Yelp
I'm not sure how this place doesn't get a 5 star rating? Vanessa was fabulous. Service and timing were perfect. We started with the basil lemoncello drop, which was delicious! The antipasto is enough for 4 people and all high-quality stuff. I had lasagna, and my wife had bolognase, and we could not finish because the portions are so generous. The tiramisu is better than any we've had. If we lived in the area, it would be a weekly visit.
google avatar

Doug W.

Yelp
The food has always been great, but the service was even better last night. We had a 7:00 reservation but the tables weren't clearing. While waiting we were brought drinks, a table soon came open and we were given an amazing desert in our way out the door to make up for the wait.

Jesus M.

Yelp
Caesar salad and bread are delicious. Lasagna and pasta was also very good. Overall great experience.

Yelp
We called in the late afternoon, and despite being less than 15 minutes from the advertised after-lunch closing time, Derek said to come on in, they would take care of us. And did they ever. We would have been happy with a simple meal, but were encouraged to order from the full lunch menu; my wife chose the gnocchi al'marinara, and I the lasagne.. but first, the Caesar salad and fresh bread, olive oil, and well-aged balsalmic, offered with grated parmesan and fresh-ground pepper. Delicious.. could have been a meal by itself. I chose a glass of the house chianti (excellent!) at Derek's recommendation, and I'm glad I did. It had the full-bodied flavor of a reserva, and was a great choice to accompany our entrees. I should mention, my better half is an amazing cook with more than fifty years of experience, and her gnocchi are second to none.. but the staff at Trattoria Pina deserve kudos for their top-notch presentation. My lasagne was a well-balanced symphony of tender pasta, creamy ricotta, and flavorful sauce, while her gnocchi were light, well-textured pillows of joy. She also (wisely) chose to have a meatball with her entree, and it was like a bite from my childhood, with a flavorful blend of ground meats and just the right amount of seasonings. We both saved half of our entrees to keep room for dessert, and again, it was a wise choice.. my wife chose the tiramisu (her favorite), while I struggled to choose between the cannoli, the mountainous fresh-baked eclairs enveloped in whipped cream, the fresh strawberry creampuff, or the blueberry-amaretto three-layer cake. Derek didn't hesitate when I asked for his recommendation, and the last on that short list is now my go-to number one. The cake was light, with just the right complement of competing blueberry and amaretto flavor balanced by a light whipped filling. Freshly-made hot coffee (americano) topped off an excellent meal, but the real star of the show was the staff's welcoming, friendly attitude and superb service, in spite of the last-minute addition to their lunchtime workload. Derek and the chef didn't miss a beat, and we were treated to an awesome meal hosted by an amazing family. Cosmo would be proud.

Yelp
It's been a long time since we have been here and it won't take long for us to come back again. We had a top notch dinner last night. Food was excellent and service was amazing. The atmosphere was great and everyone seemed to be enjoying their dinner night. The desserts were unbelievable! The display cart with the options for us to see. Our whole table was in awe over these and the taste lived up to the appearance of the display. Only downside of our experience was their parking lot is small and hard to find a space. Well done and we will definitely be back soon.

Yelp
Unexceptional neighborhood Italian faire at (now) exceptionally high prices. The kitschy paintings, worn furnishings, and youthful staff complete the patina of an establishment where the owners have checked out of all intervention except increasing menu pricing. I appreciate how hard and expensive it is to run a restaurant - but Trattoria Pina needs to wake up and respect how much it costs to eat there as well. Diners who pay New York / San Francisco prices in Tucson should respectfully insist on costal-quality and service to match.

Yelp
Service was really spectacular. Most of the food items we tried were not up to par except the desserts. Minestrone soup was really bland. One of their house specialties, melanzane delioziosa (eggplant) was ok. The carbonara was soupy and the seafood risotto was flavorless. My son only had two slices of the margherita and left it without taking it home. Disclaimer: I lived in Italy for 5 years and my expectations may be higher than the average diner.

Jim K.

Yelp
Never fails. Is always amazing. Bit pricey but worth it. Great atmosphere and service.

Yelp
First impressions were very crowded since it was Friday evening. Parking lot was completely full and had to wait for someone to leave before we could get in. The food portions were large but, they lacked much flavor. Our server was quite busy with many tables so we had to wait for water refills. I would try again but at a less busy time.
