Dizengoff Ends Hummus Tenure in NYC — and More Closings | Eater NY

"I learned Upper East Side Italian restaurant Vivolo closed after serving the neighborhood for 41 years and owner Angelo Vivolo said he hopes to stay in the industry by consulting or finding a new location but that 'present conditions' made it difficult to be profitable." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

🍷🍝⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the first moment I walked into Trattoria Vivolo, I knew it was pure magic. The warm light, the soft chatter, the scent of garlic and good wine — it feels like stepping straight into an Italian dream. Every visit feels like being welcomed home. Dean, the owner, is truly the heart of the place — always making you feel like family the moment you walk in. He has that rare warmth that turns dinner into something personal, memorable, and special every single time. And Maria… she’s a legend. She’s been there forever, the kind of server every great restaurant dreams of having — graceful, kind, and always making sure everything is just right. The rest of the team follows her lead — attentive, professional, and genuinely caring. And then comes the food. The Fritto Misto — light, crispy, impossible to stop eating. The Cozze Bianco — mussels in a broth so good you’ll want to drink it straight from the bowl. The Vitello Prosciutto — tender, rich, and unforgettable. The Linguini Nere — you won’t find pasta like this anywhere else. The Lasagna al Forno tastes like it came from an Italian grandmother’s kitchen, bubbling with love. And the pizza… oh, the pizza. Thin, blistered, perfect — I’ve never had pizza like this anywhere in Westchester. I dream about it and always come back for it. The back room is a world of its own — perfect for birthdays, date nights, and special family dinners. It’s intimate, dramatic, and full of that old-school charm you can’t fake. Every meal here is a celebration. The wine is always flowing, the specials are always tempting, and just when you think you’re done, the Bomba Baci and cannoli arrive to remind you that there’s always room for dessert. This isn’t just dinner — it’s a memory every single time. A place that feels like home. We love it here and we’ll always keep coming back… if we can get a reservation, ha!

The interior is very beautiful, food is average. The calamari was chewy and under seasoned. And pastas were just okay. Food just needed more flavor and love.

Absolutely top tier dining experience. From the moment you walk in the door it is clear that customer service and hospitality are very important to Trattoria Vivolo's staff and management. Lindsey, behind the bar, works as if she has 8 arms, never slowing down or losing her cool despite the tickets piling up. Every single staff member was genuinely engaged, attentive, and thorough. As someone who runs a business in a adjacent industry I am beyond impressed with the staff presentation/service. The main dining room feels like a renovated classic diner? Not from the area so dont know the history but I like it. Outdoor seating area was spacious and clean. Moving from the best food state (NJ) I am still struggling to find places to get the staples in local spots around Westchester County. Happy to say Bruschetta and Chicken Parm are now checked off the list. Bruschetta was a little soft and unwieldy but the end pieces that were a little burnt were perfect. 8/10. How are you supposed to eat bruschetta without making a mess? Chicken parm. Super simple but its crazy how many places will mess it up. Trattoria Vivolo's chicken parm was consistent in size and texture throughout. On the thinner side for a cutlet (preferred). Sauce and spaghetti were on point as well. All ingredients were great, fresh, and well presented. Looking forward to coming back. Oh, right. Tiramisu was difficult to eat an enjoyable pace but please do yourself a favor and slow it down so you can fully enjoy it.

Google
The food was incredible!!!! We ordered a margarita pizza, Caesar salad, Mezzi rigatoni, and chicken with fresh mozzarella and roasted potatoes. It was simply wow. From dessert menu the chocolate cake and the cheesecake. The cheesecake was not so good. Sorry !

Trattoria Vivolo is always on par.....I always go for early dinner 4:30 pm. Two to three appetizers, one main dish to share and they always ask if we want it in two my plates. Dessert is always delish.

We came here for the first time and were absolutely blown away. We had a delicious dinner that tasted very good. Our waitress Dacka was so kind and was super attentive. She made sure we had enough drinks and even recommended us certain dishes that she thought were very good. She also recommended some dessert drinks that are very popping Italy, so we tried them out. The menu has many different options to choose from and you can have either fish, meat, chicken, or pasta. We were in the outside seating area and it was a bit chilly. But they took care of that immediately as they had on the big heaters and placed them all around us. The wind was not a problem as we were very warm and still got to enjoy our food. We left very satisfied and want to come back soon to try some other dishes that sound very interesting.

Yelp
3.75 review. In the very crowded Italian Food segment in Westchester, we ventured out to Harrison NY to try a new place. This restaurant is situated in an old-style steel diner which we all found charming- small but certainly comfortable. Parking was a bit dicey, but we parked next door to what looked like a closed restaurant. The seasonal decorations and black backdrop was pleasing to the eye and our table of 8 was sat on time as promised. Bread, Salads and appetizers were fine- the fried zucchini was a bit soggy though. Our entrees, mostly pasta and fish dishes were OK but not great per the post dinner comments. Service was fine and actually borderline friendly. The desserts may have been the highlight of the night as they were delivered in old style tall soda glasses and they were large and flavorfull. Complimentary Lemoncello and amaretto were offered post dinner. One of my guests requested a Bailey's instead and to my surprise it was accommodated- smart move by the server! The bill seemed a tad expensive for what we received- very commonplace these days I guess.. If I can give a recommendation, I would lean towards updating the entree presentation and delivery away from the mediocre to something more outstanding... Otherwise It was a good and solid overall experience.

Yelp
Classic Italian Fare across from the Harrison Train Staion...Yes right across in a quant old school diner transformed into one of the best and most underrated Italian restaurants in the Westchester Area. Westchester is known for an abundance of great Italian fare and Chef Dean is right up there with the top 10 in Westchester.

Yelp
We came here by chance since we were close to the playland and were looking for somewhere to eat. A delicious find. Cozy and cool ambiance. It is an Italian restaurant that is housed inside and old diner. This gave it a very cool vibe. The food is reflective of all the great reviews. We ordered the mezzi rigatoni, the pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente. The sauce was rich in basil and garlic flavor. I couldn't stop eating. The only ding if the dish were the shrimp. The shrimp was ok but lacked seasoning. They should work on improving the flavoring of the shrimp a bit. That will totally elevate the dish as a whole. We also got the Paglia with the mushroom ragu. We got this on the recommendation of our server. This dish was ok. The pasta was perfectly cooked, though the flavoring was a little light for my taste. For someone who isn't into such strong or rich dish this might be for them. It was a pleasant surprise and we will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Yelp
The dining options were excellent. I had the Tre Colore salad and the Coniglio Del Padrone rabbit dinner. Delicious! Cindy, our hostess, was phenomenal. She was very kind both on the phone and when I came in for dinner. The entire team was equally friendly and welcoming. Our server, Dagga, was fabulous! She shared great menu recommendations and was extremely personable. Choice of wines was very good and they have an extensive selection of Italian Amaros. Overall, the atmosphere was relaxed, comfortable, and cozy. The restaurant is located within a beautifully renovated 1950's diner that has some private booths and a counter section. My daughter and I will be back!

Yelp
Outside seating is a dream! Service is outstanding! & THE FOOD!! I cannot believe it's taken me this long to eat here. The risotto had my fiancé in love. (And as I write this, I can see he's left a 5 star review 8 years ago, so it's safe to say they are consistently on point!) Great portions, wine list & desserts. Even their salads were creative! Next visit, I'll be sure to snap some pics before scarfing down my food!

David C.

Yelp
Best combination of vibe, quality and creativity of food, value and service we've experienced in Westchester. Wonderful energy and delivery of superb experience from beginning to end - where they typically offer a drink or dessert on the house. A must eat place.

Yelp
Great Italian place in Harrison. The service is friendly and food is delicious. The ravioli and linguine with clams were outstanding. The acoustics are a little loud in the back, but manageable.

Yelp
What a wonderful spot for lunch or dinner! I stopped in for lunch and it was decorated beautifully for the holidays. Really pretty. We ordered chicken Parm and chicken Piamontese. wow! The plates were gorgeous and the food was equally delicious. Chicken Parm was pounded quite thin and crisp, the way I like it. The chicken Piamontese was really delicious and the wine sauce somewhat like marsala with arugula and mushrooms. The salads that accompanied the food were dressed perfectly and quite good as well as the crusty bread! Very nice people working here! Love the menu and the specials! We will be back!

Yelp
First this is parking is a pest BUT this place is worth it. I first tried this spot a little over a year ago and I have about 7-8 times since. I wish I could go more if I could. I love everything about this menu especially the dessert. Highly highly recommend.

Anne S.

Yelp
We were there last evening and all our appetizers and dinners were delicious. Never understood the potato croquettes or mashed potatoes in an Italian restaurant. ...don't bother serving....not Italian . We weren't rush, but it's not an intimate place. Restaurant should answer phone because we were from out of town and had no idea where to park. We wasted 15 minutes driving around and finally parked under apartments praying we wouldn't get a ticket. Plus we were late for reservations. They need a recording " parking is available ...."

Bill O.

Yelp
Just ok... not great. I was with a group of four that were there for a birthday celebration and was hoping for something more. Waited over 35 minutes for a table despite having reservations. Host not very accommodating nor apologetic with regards to long wait. Seemed as if the "locals/regulars" got preferred treatment. Once seated it was a rush to get the order taken. Staff was bit abrupt and seemed preoccupied with other patrons. Decor is that of a refurbished diner and very loud - not intimate at all. No rush to get food out which was a plus. Bread on table was bland and small packets of butter in foil were tacky for an "upscale" place . Some olive oil would have been a nice touch but the "diner atmosphere " prevailed. Food was fair and not too bad but also not great. Veal was thin but chewy and potatoes croquet (strange side) was dry and tasteless. Good portions and served hot. Other dishes were "pretty good" but not the best we have had. Overall a bit pricey given the quality of food and the atmosphere. Once again, more of a "local" place that really didn't make you feel comfortable. With all of the better Italian restaurants in the area I don't see us returning. Nothing special ...

Yelp
We love Trattoria Vivolo. Terrific food. Great staff. Food is always fantastic. Beautifully prepared, fresh and flavorful. Our dishes were great. The one and only thing, and it's not only Vivolo, restaurants are getting out of control with the prices. $50 for seafood risotto and pastas now into the mid 30 dollar range is getting out of control. I hope they don't start to price themselves out because dining out is starting to get prohibitive. Middle America can't spend $150 for two multiple times in a month.

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this place for a long time. For $250 on a birthday meal, really thought the meals would have been better. Pasta dishes were average, at best. For $30 an entree was expecting much more. The chicken entree was a little too tough but the sauce was very flavorful. The tiramisu was a letdown - very small and lacked the true flavor authentic tiramisu should have -- it tasted mostly like cream. The pana cotta- too watery. I forgot to order my mom the take out of gnocchi before the bill came so I asked the hostess if I could order that separately. She seemed to give me a hard time on doing this. She then told me to hand her cash and she would discount it a few dollars but if I paid on credit card she would have to charge more. I didn't have cash, so had to pay more for this separate dish. It felt shady. The gnocchi tasted a bit overdone, but that could be because it was in a take-out dish for 30 minutes. So can't fairly rate it. The sauce tasted much too salty though. I actually called to question why the overcharge but didn't get anywhere. Overall, it is a nice ambiance for a special meal. Just have to know what to order here I guess? And they could use much friendlier service to the non-regulars.

Yelp
My grandparents organized a family dinner here for their anniversary. We all really enjoyed our experience, from a nice outdoor patio to delicious food to good service. We started with the insalata di cavoli, which was fresh and fairly substantial for a salad. The Margherita pizza was our other starter - it was equally yummy and complimented the salad well. I ordered branzino for my main. It was good, but nothing too memorable. It seemed like the happiest eaters at my table were those who got pasta dishes! I sampled my dad's linguine nere, which was really great. My sister thoroughly enjoyed her rigatoni alla siciliana, which she ordered without pancetta since she is vegetarian. The bucatini was also very well-received. If you come with an appetite, the cacciucco di mare was a spectacle, with a lot of fresh seafood served over spaghetti with a spicy marinara sauce (sauce wasn't actually spicy though). Overall, I definitely recommend coming here!

Yelp
I fell in love with this place the moment we walked through the door. I loved the rich paint colors, gorgeous lighting, and that nostalgic feeling of sitting in what was once a diner. We didn't have a reservation, but the owner, who was manning the front of the house that day, told us he could have two bar stools available for us if we waited a little while. We happily waited at two other stools (not set up for dining, just drinks) while we enjoyed the energy inside the restaurant and watched the busied movements of the staff, constantly filling orders and answering questions. The waiters and bartenders were very friendly and helpful. And, once we got to ordering, the menu did not disappoint at all, with ample variety of appetizers, pasta dishes, steaks, chicken dishes, fish dishes and desserts. We settled on two different dishes, the Orecchiette di Troia and the Mezzi Rigatoni, and both were prepared to perfection. The flavors were incredible, and we could not stop oohhhhing and wowwwing in delight with each bite. As we ate, and I enjoyed a delicious white wine by the glass (I believe it was a gavi di gavi), we watched as one person prepared dessert after dessert at the dessert station. Each one looked amazing, and we finally had to ask what one in particular was. We were told it was the Vivolissimo, which has vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries, cannoli cream, shaved dark chocolate, whipped cream and crushed biscotti. We had to try what it seemed table after table was ordering, and so we did. Wow! Each bite had the perfect combination of the dessert's components, and each and every bite was absolutely delectable. In sum, we've been back twice in the past 6 weeks since we first discovered it, and we plan to be back many more times. We've tried the chicken martini, which everyone at the table loved, the Scamorza (a fried mozzarella appetizer), the Tortelloni D'Ampezzo, Rigatoni Alla Siciliana and other dishes, and none have disappointed. If you're considering going to Trattoria Vivolo for a special and delicious night out, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
6 of us went and the appetizers and main courses were enjoyed by all. Great setting inside an old diner and the outside setup was nice as well. Our service was shaky as a drink order was missed as well as a main course was forgotten to be put in by our server. We will give it another try soon.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Italian food in Westchester. You don't need to see the regular menu here as the specials are consistently intentional and fantastic. A REAL Italian restaurant with family vibes and not "Instagram Italian". Bring friends or family here and they will talk about it for years to come.

Eddy M.

Yelp
It's was four of us, my wife ,son ,daughter and myself and from start to finish everyththing was great from food to service all on point not rushed at all and place was hoping.

Chris W.

Yelp
Great food. Even better service. Highly recommended. Staff met the specific dietary restrictions of our party. Provided a customized meal that was not on the menu. Look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Great ambiance! Delicious, thoughtful dishes served in a cozy but comfortable environment. Contemporary feel with great attention to classic/regional details that really recommends itself. Outside patio is a treat in warmer weather. Location is opposite Harrison train station (north traveling trains side).

Yelp
This is my favorite place to dine, traditional delicious Italian food and welcome, great cocktails, food and the deserts... delicious and home made too.. I have eaten here for 20 years.. love the owner and staff, love the food.. go and enjoy !!!
google avatar

Yelp
Went there for a party, Great Outdoor seating area with tall Heaters keeping it comfortable. Food was Good and Service was Very Good. Drawback for the Workers as they had to walk a Tremendous distance each time they had to visit the inside restaurant to bring out what was needed! This needs to be fixed! Otherwise was a Pleasant Evening made better by the efforts of the staff and Owner!

Yelp
Came here for a rare date night. The location is great as is the ambiance. It was super busy because it was a Saturday night, so service was a little slow to check on us, but the food was served quickly. The Caesar salad was good, very light which is rare for a Caesar. The eggplant and mozzarella appetizer was also great. For my main I had the sole, which was cooked perfectly. The only weird thing about the plate was a potato croquette. It didn't have a ton of flavor. That said, the menu was solid, the waitstaff was friendly, and the atmosphere was great.

Steven P.

Yelp
We ordered a number of food trays for a birthday dinner party of 17. The food was great and they were extremely helpful and accommodating with two dairy free and two gluten free people. There were some very happy teens. Thanks.

Alice F.

Yelp
First time at Vivolo and it was lovely. Beautifully decorated for Christmas, owners and staff super friendly. You could tell it's a regular place for date night and family dinners. We were seated promptly and provided menus. We ordered drinks and a salad to share; no surprise they brought it split on two dishes, so nice. We ordered our meals, lamb chop special for my husband and lobster ravioli with baby shrimp, muscles in a cream sauce. Everything was delicious and perfectly portioned. We had affogato to close out our dinner perfectly. Recommend and would try again.
google avatar

Ben P.

Yelp
Excellent food. Excellent service. It's like the old 50's & 60's luncheonette serving f8ne dining restaurant quality food. When I first walked in I thought I walked into the wrong place until they explained that it is a restaurant in w/ a luncheonette theme. Everything was simply delicious from the appetizer right down to the dessert. Will definitely be back
google avatar

Emerson D.

Yelp
OH MY GOD THIS PLACE IS JUST TO DIE FOR! If you are craving some great Italian food this is your way to go. The service is just amazing filled with happy waiters and waitresses and they are very friendly and the food comes out on a reasonable time. A little bit pricey but still worth the price
google avatar

Rita H.

Yelp
The best bread I ever had, warm, crunchy and not too hard! Spread with butter or olive oil, yummm! My dining partner & I both had salads because it was the middle of the afternoon, not quite lunch and not quite dinner. Both salads were delicious with unusual ingredients, like candied walnuts in mine. I had the raspberry spritzer drink which was good. We split a tortoni for dessert, taking me back to my childhood. A full bar is available in what looks like an old fashioned diner that's been updated but with yesteryears charm still in place. Street parking was easy on a weekend afternoon. The staff was friendly and non obtrusive.
google avatar

Ron P.

Yelp
Here for a birthday celebration. The place is LOUD and our server was busy running (ok, walking) all over the place. Our initial drink order took over 15 minutes to get to the table but my Negroni was delicious. Finally, food orders were taken and half the table, myself included, ordered the Sea Bass special. The fish itself was fairly bland but the side of Risotto and the topping of fried artichoke was amazing. A second round of drinks were ordered and my second Negroni was not (IMHO) made with the same gin as the first. One of my party sent theirs back while I elected to keep mine. For dessert, I ordered the Bomba Baci, a sundae type thing that was so freakin delicious, I might go back just for that. Anyway, negative items aside, I would return here without hesitation.
google avatar

Yelp
I will come out and say it. I loved the food. I loved the service. And ambiance was fine. All good. I have a major agita about prices. Pasta dishes at $30 ? Fish at $45? I get it, inflation, COVID, etc. but at some point there has to be a balance.

JoLynn K.

Yelp
We were very excited to try this restaurant for a family celebration! It's a lovely restaurant with a beautiful outdoor seating area. For a Tuesday, it was very busy. We ordered in a reasonable time and enjoyed the beautiful night. It soon became clear that many tables around us had no food. We finally got our food about 70 minutes after we sat down. Two of the dinners were outstanding with the lemon sole being the best. Rigatoni with ragu was clearly left waiting for the other 2 and was dry and lacking one of the ingredients. Clearly, the kitchen was having trouble keeping up with the volume. They offered us complimentary lemonicello but we needed to leave by that time. We will give them another chance but it ended up being a stressful night.

Susan S.

Yelp
Our first mistake was entering an almost empty restaurant on a Sunday afternoon Within a minute, three people asked if I wanted a drink ... alcohol of course. My friend & ordered salads.... With add ons..., salmon on hers, chicken on mine. No alcohol. Coffee for each. The bill.... Almost $50 a piece. For what? My salad basically lacked anything but endive. How much could this have cost them? $2? Gulp!! Never again.

Yelp
My husband and I were driving between Boston back to DC, and stopped here for dinner. It was some of the best pasta we have ever had. The restaurant has friendly staff and a charming indoor atmosphere. The restaurant is in an old-time diner, and is very classic. My husband loved the spaghetti, which has a creamy marinara sauce.
google avatar

Betsy D.

Yelp
Second time dining here and it was amazing! The pasta tasted so fresh & creamy, it's a must try. The ambiance is relaxing and welcoming. The only thing I didn't like were the booths we were sitting in but that won't stop me from coming in and enjoying the food!

Ron T.

Yelp
A group of 6 went for a Tuesday night dinner after a friend raved about this place. It's a little underwhelming from the outside. But don't let the vintage diner look put you off - inside is warm and welcoming. The service team was great. They refilled water glasses, kept wine glasses full but we never felt rushed since they took their cue from our group that we there to enjoy the food and each others company. We started with a couple of appetizers and salads. The Fritto Misto was very good. I didn't try the others. Entrees were Linguini Nere (incredibly good with a creamy pesto sauce), Gnocchi Al Cinghiale (didn't get to taste that, but heard it was great), Pollo Martini (didn't taste this one either, but it was a large portion and others tried it and loved it), a rabbit pasta special (OK at best) and a couple of others. We shared 2 desserts -Tartuffo which was good and another with ice cream and a sauce which was very good. Can't wait to try it again.

Yelp
Great Italian Food in Harrison!! Good service and amazing food. Highly recommended. While not an Italian its out go to place. Friendly mgmt.

Yelp
This used to be a diner the diner stunk and smelled and if you were not careful you would slip on the floor in greece. The Italians took hold of it and made it real nice it is a wonderful restaurant now the kind you would take your hot date out to. Now all I need is a hot date and $50to go here! The waitress is a doll and very funny too.

Yelp
Food was spectacular, excellent service, Our waiter was very attentive and very friendly. We sat in a cozy booth which I felt was perfect for the occasion, my lady's birthday, we enjoyed our appetizers and our entrees. The cappuccino to conclude our dinner was excellent and the entire experience was wonderful. Dean was courteous and pleasant and he certainly added a nice touch to our experience. Go there ! No regrets !!!!

Yelp
This restaurant has continued to impress me with their quality of dishes, warm service, and consistency in presentation. I tend to take out more than dine in person these days due to my work schedule, but their level of takeout is a replica of their in-person quality. The food is exceptional, the portions are not skimped, and the flavors in their dishes are filled with love. Do yourself a favor and check out the best southern Italian in Westchester County.

joe c.

Yelp
Amazing good, amazing service. We tried a few apps, and a salad to start. Fried calamari was perfect, hot antipasto plate was great-shrimp was garlic! Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Lots of great options. Very accommodating for our two babies as well.

Michael L.

Yelp
My family and I just had dinner at Trattoria Vivolo and I have to say- it was the best Italian meal we have had this year. Everything was OUTSTANDING. Pizza, pasta, veal- 5 stars. But even better than the food was the outstanding service and warm family atmosphere throughout.
google avatar

Antonietta Z.

Yelp
The food is always delicious and consistent! The only issue I have is it impossible to get a reservation on the weekend!

Victoria D.

Yelp
Cute and homey little place. Eggplant was delicious! Service was good and our waitress was adorable and friendly!
