The 34 Best Athens Restaurants | Eater

"Sea bream carpaccio, dusky grouper with okra, and roasted and skewered squid kontosouvli instantly transport Travolta diners to the sea. Owners Anestis Lampropoulos and brothers Spyros and Vangelis Liakos formed exclusive partnerships with three fishing boats, which provide the restaurant with everything from fresh octopus to cod to crayfish. Try the beer brewed in-house with salt water from sea urchins. [$$$ - $$$$]" - Demetrios Ioannou

From my point of view, this is truly one of the finest dining experiences in Athens. We have visited twice, and with each visit, we discovered a new magical touch from the chef — creativity and passion in every dish. This is not a budget-friendly restaurant compared to many authentic Greek spots aimed at tourists, but it is absolutely worth every euro. Nestled in an industrial area, far from the city’s main tourist attractions, it’s a place you come to experience rather than just eat. The heated fava with smoked eel was extraordinary — rich, smooth, and deeply flavorful. Every bite made us want to return. The sashimi was prepared with precision and enhanced by a delicate touch of wasabi — an unexpected but delightful fusion of flavors. The squid in black ink was a bold creation — both visually striking and exquisitely balanced. And the tomatoes — what a revelation! Peeled in boiling water until perfectly tender, lightly salted, and bursting with flavor; whether enjoyed in a salad or on their own, they were unforgettable. To finish, the mastika liqueur and dark chocolate left a lingering sweetness and a promise to return. The wine list is authentically Greek, offering an impressive variety of local selections. The waiter demonstrated deep knowledge and guided us through the choices with great professionalism. A complete and memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.

Travolta, a neighborhood spot with a modern take on Greek seaside taverna. The fact that the fish is fresh is self-evident here. This restaurant should definitely be on your list in Athens.

I decided to come here after seeing it recommended by an influencer. I made a reservation on a weekday, but it turns out there would have been space even without one. It’s about 15–20 minutes from central Athens by taxi, and I paid €10 one way via Uber. It’s a very refined restaurant — both the food quality and the service from the waiters were top-notch. Clearly a level above the touristy spots in the city center. We started with cocktails, and they were excellent. Then we ordered a Greek salad, which was by far the best feta salad I’ve ever had — mainly because the tomatoes were incredibly fresh and flavorful. After that, we had: • Smoked eel on fava • Grilled red mullet skewers • Squid • Seabream carpaccio • Fried zucchini The fried zucchini was amazing, and the red mullet was also fantastic and full of flavor. The carpaccio was nice, though a bit overpriced in my opinion. We were very full, so we skipped dessert. We had a small glass of ouzo with the meal, which was more than enough. The bread served on the side was also very crispy and delicious. At the end of the meal, they offered us mastiha liqueur from Chios as a treat. If there had been Greek music playing in the background, the experience would have been even better. Overall, it was a truly unique experience. If I return to Athens, I will definitely come back. We paid €180 for two people, were completely full, and it was absolutely worth the price for this quality.

Every dish we tried was excellent, with very high-quality ingredients and careful execution. The menu is clearly positioned at the higher end in terms of pricing, but the overall quality fully justifies it. A refined dining experience that delivers on its promise.

The service was wonderfully warm and knowledgeable, guiding us to the perfect bottle of wine. If you love fish, this is a non-negotiable stop. Worth every euro for a taste of authentic, top-tier Greek seafood. Highly recommended!

The chef is top class, raw material high level, the cuisine is very well anchored to tradition with a modern touch. Simply delicious, you get the same but you spend 20-40% less than in comparable but posher places. A must try received from an insider: try the fries with bottarga, they will make you addicted in maximum 1 minute and you cannot live without them anymore. To try and try again and again and again
