They guy working at the register was making some donuts and could've taken care of us in between, taking less than 1 minute considering the three of us were each just ordering a pre-made tres leches cake. Even in short 20 sec bursts it would've been fine, but from the moment we were there till when we sat down, 10-15 minutes had passed by... it'd be fine if this were reasonable, but all he needed to do was pull the cake out, push the button on the register for what we order, and WE do the rest of the payment. Rinse and repeat, easy.
But that was only work a 0.5 dock. The other 1.5 dock was from the cake itself. Simply put the texture was a little strange. No, I know a tres leches cake is supposed to be moist and yada yada. I'm comparing their tres leches to the ones I've had at El Bolillo.
But anyways, the best way I can describe it is.. the texture was like it sat out for a day after being baked, THEN soaked in the milks. The result is a large cake that's not as moist as you'd think, with a crumb with pieces that were oddly large. You know how a sponge cake has a million holes running through it? The size of the actual crumb between each hole is sorta small and consistent. Now imagine those crumbs actually being 4 times as large while the holes are still tiny. Actually you can just look at the photos themselves and you'll see. I mean, each cake can be its own cake right? This different sponge with huge crumbs made it taste stale though because the milk can't equally disperse throughout each piece.
The flavors of the cake were actually quite good though! Coffee was my favorite, then caramel, then red velvet. Obviously it's on the sweeter side, but you can't fault that if you're ordering a tres leches. Ah, they're also $7 a pop.
6/10, would come again once in a blue moon.
