Treadwell's Ice Cream

A charming local venue for delicious ice cream and other sweet treats. We stopped in and had a small ice cream cone each. Their small is a very generous portion, unless you are really hungry, I'd advise the kiddy size. There are no restrooms available, but there are picnic tables. Parking lot is limited but there is street parking in the area. Prices were very reasonable for the generous portions and the ice cream is delicious.

Left one is a Frappe with Oreo ice cream which is completely liquidly - & right is a Frappe with vanilla ice cream with peanut butter syrup with taste like straight up milk ONLY ! We go there a lot and we are never disappointed but this time was HORRIBLE! It really sucks when you paid for something and it’s not what you asked for!

Yummy yummy!! Not only was the ice cream tasty, the staff was super friendly and helpful. We were a bigger group (2 adults and 5 kids) and everyone got exactly what they wanted. 2 people in our group had different food allergies and everything was handled well. The Salted Caramel Truffle was fantastic!

One of my favorite little ice cream shops- right out of Salem, MA. It’s very quaint and perfect for on-the go. 10/10 recommend for a good sweet treat!

This is a great place for ice cream with a large selection of flavors! Their servings are huge as well. While visiting Salem, we actually went every single night for 5 days, it was that gooood! Yuuuummmy!!! The staff were also very friendly & courteous every time. So 5 stars 🌟 plus ➕️ ✨️ 🍦🍧🍨

We stopped in on. Rainy day and had the best ice cream. Coffee and Oreo was great. And you get a lot for a single serving. Owners were very nice to talk to and they have owned this business for over 20 years (if I recall correctly).

Pumpkin Oreo ice cream. Yes. You heard me. It could have been bad but it was sooo good. I also got the peanut butter Oreo and it was completely overshadowed. - So much so that I didn't finish the pb Oreo. Yeah. I know. If it's in season. Get the pumpkin Oreo

Found me a North Shore classic! Shame it took me this long to find it. Treadwell's Ice Cream most definitely climbs the charts as a fantastic ice cream spot. Fair warning their portions are huge, the flavors are rich and creamy, and the service is wicked friendly and efficient. Quite a long list of flavors for you to pick from. Whether you go for a classic chocolate-vanilla twist, a loaded sundae, or a specialty frappe, you're in for a treat. Bonus points for the clean outdoor seating and nostalgic New England charm. Couldn't help but notice the "No Sugar Added" flavors. The Vanilla & Coffee flavors from this selection had just the right amount of sweetness that we enjoy. Treadwell's is a must-stop for locals and visitors alike.

Delicious ice cream! We stopped here randomly looking for ice cream. My daughter saw the sign and we got in at 8:55, right before closing (lucky)! My kids got the Cookie Monster and the small waffle cone--they were still huge! My sister got the peach (seasonal) and she said it was delish! I got the pistachio and it was bomb. They have a eating area and even though it was cold out, it was still a nice area to sit and enjoy the ice cream and not worry about making a huge mess (it does melt if not eaten fast enough kids lol). The service was very friendly and quick. Highly recommend!

I love ice cream. Ice cream served in the northern part of America is much better quality and quantity than down south. We shared a cup of heavenly hash and peanut butter Oreo. The heavenly hash was a bit soft for our liking but the taste was there. We really enjoyed the Oreo peanut butter. The young lady who took our order was very sweet. Once you get your ice cream there are tables outside in which to sit. I'd go here often if I lived near.

very rude employee gave me attitude when I asked if I could get two different flavors in my slushy she what 17 times the music was blaring my eardrums were hurting they messed up my order big time!!!! i asked for blue vanilla and rainbow I did not get the rainbow. I got red, white and blue. I did not get blue vanilla. I got blue raspberry a very big difference.i DO NOT recommend this place also the straw they gave me was distroyed

Best ice cream there is! Out of any food in the world my favorite is the s'mores ice cream. Seriously if I had to pick my last meal it would be treadwells ice cream. It's sooo good! Have tried lots of flavors and never disappointed. Well I start to get sad when I get to the end of my cup and there's no more to eat.

We stopped here after searching for "ice cream near me."Yelp came through again as it was exactly what we were looking for. Quaint, local, friendly people and yummy ice cream!! The best part was definitely the super friendly people or maybe the yummy ice cream.

Holy cow, the Best Ice Cream ever!! Visiting from Carson City Nevada. Went to check out Salem and passed by this gem and turned around to give it a try, so glad I did because it was the best! Had the rasberry truffle and it was amazing! Made a mistake of ordering a large, (on the west coast the large is a size of a child's small here)! I was shocked to see the large was a giant, but so glad because it was sooooo good! This place is FANTASTIC!

Great, classic ice cream. We got 3 pints of different flavors since it was our first time there and we couldn't make up our minds. All 3 were terrific. This is now our official family ice cream. Thanks, guys!

Eh. The ice cream is way too sweet yet somehow flavorless at the same time. I'm not sure why dad started going here, as he used to hate this place. We were more of a Hobb's or Mister Softee family. I figured I'd try this place because it'd been years since I visited, and I was unimpressed. I'll stick to my usuals.

Wow, I've tried quite a few North Shore ice cream places and this one was just as good as the rest. HUGE variety of flavors, classic outdoor seating with lots of happy kids and families. I got a small Raspberry Truffle (chocolate based with raspberry swirl and little chunks of fudge) and my friend got small S' mores (graham cracker ice cream (!) with chocolate chunks and marshmallow swirl). Both were Ah-may-zing and, as most everyone else has said, a kiddie might have been a more realistic size. Also, this place is slightly cheaper than the other local ice cream joints around, which is a bonus.

The best ice cream in Massachusetts! Whenever we're in Boston, I make sure to make the trip here. I always order the sugar-free coffee ice cream. It never disappoints.

I asked for two flavors but gone the same one for both scoops! Pretty disappointed with that, people working were not very friendly. BUT awesome portion sizes. Would go back again to try the flavor I wanted to!

I now live on the west coast, but each time I come home, I make at least one stop at Treadwell's. My favorite is black raspberry, which is really hard, if not impossible to find outside of New England. They give you huge servings so a kiddy cone is plenty of ice cream. I'm always nervous about fitting into my pants after each trip home :).

My favorite mint chocolate chip. The chocolate chips are the perfect size. The ratio of ice-cream to chocolate pieces is perfect.

I had stopped in towards the end of the summer. The wait wasn't terrible, the ice cream was a welcomed delight for a hot summer day. Oh my how that sounds delightful on this cold blustery day in January!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that they carry Grapenut icecream - a classic milk and cereal icecream that has largely faded from grocery store shelves. This place has the very best of it that I have ever had. What's more, I know they make it from scratch because it's slightly different each time, but always delicious. The staff is dedicated and courteous. The prices are fair and there is parking. What's more, they will over-fill your icecream container so be sure to ask for a spoon in case you need to eat some out to close it.

Went in for a soft serve ice cream and someone in the store end up writing up an unauthorized tip for themselves. That's fraudulent and illegal. Will no longer be a patron of this establishment. I know COVID have been a burden for a lot of businesses but adding a tip for yourself is not the way to earn your customers loyalty.

Ok, after much research, I must state that Treadwell's has the BEST chocolate peanut butter ice cream!! The chocolate ice cream was smooth and well flavored, there were gobs of peanut butter evenly distributed and huge crunchy rectangular chunks of chocolate that challenged a persons expertise handling a cone. Luckily I had many years of tutelage from my father. You learned fast or he "cleaned up your cone" with a third gone.

As if having the most delicious ice cream one can find isn't enough this shop is owned and operated by a really great guy. I highly recommend the Cherry Vanilla!!

If you get any toppings though prepare to get half ice cream and half toppings in your cup. They are giving me my moneys worth I suppose.. but I was basically just eating candy with ice cream at the point, not the other way around. It was what 12 year old me would have done if I was at a self serve place. Also you have basically no idea what you're getting or what is in the ice cream, the menu will just say "cake batter". Well the cake batter actually has chocolate swirled into it, only found that out once I got home. My girlfriend got "Grapenut" which was possibly the most disgusting ice cream I have ever tasted. Yes this is completely anecdotal but still.... Why is this a thing? Also the shop was infested with yellow jackets.... they were crawling around cups, cones, flying around your head as you ordered... not really the most pleasant experience. They are only open until 8 pm on any day of the week which is bizarre to me, people usually like to get ice cream after dinner but that's not really an option here. Lastly the line was long and every time I drive by the line is long.

Huge ice cream portions, but horrible customer service! The servers behind the counter were very rude and angry for no reason whatsoever. If they hate their jobs, then they should quit.

I used to really love this place but it's really been up and down lately everytime I go. if I get a coffee frappe it doesn't taste good because it's made with milk when I ask for ice cream it still doesn't taste great. the only thing I didn't like was that those paper straws and I don't even get to finish half my drink because of it. raspberry lime rickey is good except for again you don't get to finish it because paper straw breaks in half in the middle of your drink. The coffee oreo is pretty good and you always get great portions here

Great Ice Cream and the place Doesn't Break the Bank and the best frappe 's I ever had so skip the other over priced changes and come here you won't be disappointed at all

I drove by it all summer when I worked my part time job. So it was hard not to stop in for a cool snack. Salted caramel in a waffle cone. Medium the size of my head. I have a HUGE head. Worth every bite and every pound I gained because of it. Can't wait for next summer. Lots of parking. Friendly staff. Great selections.

Seriously delish! I'm super particular with my ice cream and this ice cream exceeded my high stands. So creamy and nothing artificial about it. The butterscotch topping was so yummy. My boyfriend said this is the best ice cream he's had. We'll be back!

I was craving some ice cream, and treadwells was on my way home. When I ordered the soft serve in a cone, I was told that the ice cream was too soft so I had to have it in a cup. Not what I wanted, but it was still good and I would be back!

Russ Treadwell's I Scream (and FroYo) has been well trodden by yours truly since about 1970. My granddad had a crib in Salem on Winter Street and we went to Russ's almost weekly for years and years. I took a multiple-decade hiatus (I moved to Cali) but just went back to Russ's and it was no less wicked pissah than it had been back in the day. The Peppermint Stick is TDF as is the Bubble Gum I Scream. The prices are right and they hand-pack the "qwatz" and pints to "tao-ah" above the top of the "con-tain-ah" and wrap wax "pay-pah" around and then slap on the lid for a HUGE overfilled tub. They got many flavors of homemade I Scream (and FroYo) as well as soft serve and sundaes with pineapple and marshmallow toppings and all the New England classics. Thanks, Russ -you're mental and pissah!

I ordered the kitchen sink and it was very good. For some reason there seems to be more toppings than listed on the board that I wish I knew about beforehand, but I had no problem with the service and I shared the whole thing with my monstrous family. It stuffed all five of us, could probably split it between some more people. Just be prepared, I was walking with it to sit down and a mother with very small children yelled "holy f*cking sh*t" when she laid eyes on it. You will get stares. I was worried waiting in line because I thought the pictures of the sundaes was the kitchen sink, that is not the case.

This place is a must if you are in the north shore. The men working behind the counter are extremely courteous and friendly. I was in on a Sunday- Do not let the line scare you, its worth the wait!!

We used to love coming here. Since covid they have gone down hill. Hours are only till 8, and their portions are 50% less than they used to be. Very disappointed as this was one of our favorite spots to come for ice cream. The picture below is what they call a large ice cream (soft serve). It used to be towering 6" over the top of the cup. Too much to eat but what a large soft serve should be.

My husband and I wanted ice cream and this was the closes one to us on the way home. We saw great reviews and had to try it out. My husband got a banana split with vanilla ice cream and I got a brownie sundae with vanilla and maple walnut ice cream. They were big and delicious, so creamy. Might have to come again to try out other flavors.

We love Treadwell's Ice Cream !!!! The portions are huge compared to other ice cream places and the people who work there are great!!! The hours are wonderful for people who have that evening craving for ice cream We will be back Wayne & Sue & the grandkiddos ‍

Got ice cream today for my 90 year old grandmother courtesy of Xfinity. She was so happy because it's sweltering hot, and it was kind that it was free!

Delicious ice cream, generous portion, and a great price! I tried the pumpkin flavor and it was to die for. They have a large selection of flavors so there is something for everybody. The staff was very friendly as well and made great recommendations. Wish it was closer to Boston.

This is hands down my all time favorite ice cream place. I always get the chocolate-chocolate chip or the black raspberry chip. You will never find another ice cream place that makes great ice cream, has great prices, and gives great portions other than Treadwells!

Workers not very friendly. Not sure why. Cashier didn't even hand me my card back, he threw it on the counter. Ice cream is excellent though!

I write this very disappointed. I haven't been to treadwells in a while but it has always been a favorite ice cream place of mine for years. I got a packed pint tonight. If anyone knows treadwells a packed pint could feed 4 people easily and is usually over flowering. Tonight the pint I got was not even full when I pushed the top down. When I asked the server who was chewing his gum with his mouth open over my open ice cream if the servings were changed and I he said the serving sizes changed because the owner didn't want them to run out??? Then I went to my car pushed the top down myself and below is what I got. Sorry treadwells I wont be back if packed pints are half full.

Can't beat Treadwells...even after all these years! I grew up in Peabody and folks went to Chandlers or Treadwells it seems. My family always went to Treadwells, even though Chandlers was closer. My Dad always said Treadwells had better quality ice cream. Can't argue with that! The flavors offered at Treadwells are impressive! I'm sorry I didn't take a pic of the flavors posted on the side of the building. Seems there are more flavors listed there than on the website. Lucky for me the fall flavors are all available at the moment. Pumpkin, Eggnog, Dutch Apple, and even Pumpkin Oreo. Hopefully they'll add a Salted Caramel flavor in the near future (hint, hint)! I purchased 5 quarts: banana, black raspberry, dutch apple, butter crunch, and coffee Oreo. As I was driving back to my Aunts, she told me her freezer was broken! Now what?! I went back to Treadwells and asked if it was possible to keep my purchase in the freezer overnight. Michael quickly offered to help me out and put my purchase in the freezer. Talk about GREAT customer service! When I went back in the morning, I had a pumpkin Oreo cone for the road! Talk about the "Breakfast of Champions"... YUM!

Delicious vanilla!!! Pros and cons: + excellent quality ice cream + awesome portion size + very reasonable prices + very friendly staff! thanks! - no benches outside (at least I couldn't find them) We also tried orange pineapple - very nice! For people who like fun flavors, it is just great! But next time I go, planning to stick to vanilla all the way.

Popped in warm Sunday in November. As always, decent line. Got a hot fudge brownie sundae w peanut butter chocolate and mint chocolate chip. I don't know why I get these - the fudge is so powerful that you can't really taste anything else. Anyway, tread wells has quality ice cream, good mix of decently creamy and a bit waste. And good portions. Never disappointed

This place make a Great Frappe and it old school with Decent prices and big servings and is better then any new place in town and it's worth the trip from anywhere
