I went to Treasure Island for a weekend conference but my family tagged along since I was burning gas to get there anyways so this review cover most of the facility.
Conference-wise, this facility was really nice. The conference took place in their event center and it met all our conference needs. The meeting rooms were large and spacious, the main room was very big and well laid out, and all the needed amenities were provided. It helps that a hotel is right next door and amble entertainment and food is just steps away. The catered food was very good (still dreaming about their pasta salad), lots of choices, and served by a prompt and professional staff. If I was just rating this place on conference experience alone, I would say this place gets 5 stars.
I also chose to stay on-property during the conference. I stayed in the Eagle Tower and my room was fine. It reminded me of what you would find at a basic Hilton property in terms of room amenities. The beds were super comfy.
My family spent most of their time in the water park.it is a decent size place with a couple water slides, lazy river, and a few pools to choose from. What this place was missing though was a good-size splash pad/play area for younger kids. If you have older kids, this place would be fine but my kids (6 and 4) couldn't ride the slides so got bored after a bit. The adults area of the pool is very cool, a couple of large hot tubs and a swim up bar pool. Very fun when it is not super busy, when it is busy on the weekends, this place can get very gross (think drunk people shoulder to shoulder all stewing in the same pee water). Yuck. The annoying thing about the water park is that it is only open in the evenings so if you are here for a weekend trip, your Saturday morning/afternoon will have to be somewhere else and with kids the options are limited.
My wife and the kids ordered pizza for their food and it was pretty good. The amount of cheese on it was well worth the price along, easily a good couple pounds of melted deliciousness. We also hit up the coffee shop for a late night snack and they had good options to pick from for any kind of sweet tooth. Nothing fancy but it got the job done.
Now you can't come to TI without playing a little bit in their casino. I took a walk through to see what they had to offer for games. The gaming area and air is surprisingly clean and not smoky at all, that was a pleasant surprise. Lots of choices for any interest. I played a few rounds of video slots but that was about it. I don't know if you can actually rate a place on it's casino payout? The house always wins.
So why three stars? Mainly, its because of the nickel and diming this place practices. The water park? It is not free with a hotel stay. You have to pay $15 a day to access it. Kids are not free either, they need to pay as well. Now you can sign up for one of the casino cards to get a few free passes but a family of four will still need to drop $30 a day to use the water park that doesn't open until later in the day. And that is on top of already paying for a room. Another ludicrous charge is the resort fee. Another $10 a day is tacked on for misc. amenities that technically should be included in any hotel stay. Now did I go to the casino and win enough to pay for all of these silly charges and come out ahead? Yes, but I should not have to pay out these in the first place.
So if you are coming for a gaming or adult weekend experience, this place has a lot to offer. If you are coming with families, there are much better places to go.
