Yelp
This former country club provides two levels of spacious beer drinking in a respectable atmosphere that includes communal bench and stool seating, couch and easy chair seating, and Adirondack deck chair seating overlooking a golf course, pond, and stone bridge.
The Beers: Superb. Something for every beer drinker, with a big emphasis on IPAs, both straightforward ones and fruit infused ones. The offerings change often, keeping things fresh menu wise and beer wise. I haven't had one yet that I didn't like, and most I love.
The Pizza: Large, thin, well-charred hybrid of NYC and New Haven, with good tomato/cheese balance, but not too much of either and a slight edge to the cheese. The unique aspect is fresh grated cheese on top of the melted in cheese. One of my favorite pizzas in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, that's all they have for inside food, but they let you bring outside food in.
The Staff: Very professional and helpful.
The Rules: There's a limit of three beers per person during your visit, which is upsetting to some but fine by me. This is about savoring great beer, not about getting bleepfaced. There are plenty of other places you can do that if that's your thing. If you're afraid you won't be able to get variety with only three, they do offer half pours.
The combination of great beer, great pizza, and great atmosphere is virtually unbeatable, even when the lines are long and the seats are hard to find. Just time your second beer such that you'll get through the line right before your pizza's called and you'll enjoy the experience that much more.
You can order 4-packs of most (not all) of the beers in an easy-to-use kiosk that provides info, takes your payment, and delivers your selections within minutes. I like most breweries, you're not pressured into heavy tipping for what is essentially a package store purchase. And there's not a drop off in flavor from what you get in a can versus what you get on tap.
