How to Spend 24 Food-Filled Hours in San Francisco’s Mission Bay Neigborhood Like a Local - Eater SF

"This distillery and brewery is just shy of a mile south of Death by Taco. The flagship location features an expansive outdoor patio and hosts private events — die-hard fans also come for the whiskey tours." - Paolo Bicchieri

Hidden, unpolished gem. You won’t find a really fancy location with all the associated superficial aspects. This place is authentic above all else. The owners are down to earth friends who just love what they do and wants to share it with the world. Came for the Groupon tasting, stayed for the people and the cocktail, left with three bottles (2 for myself and one as a gift). Will be returning for more.

Google
Great spot for some unique cocktails! Found this place on our way back from the dog park. We tried their spin on a gin bloody and they were delicious!

Google
We had one of the most unique tasting experiences here. Gordon is very nice and truly give you a one on one experience as well as allows you to take your time to enjoy each liquor. The cute little snack and water offer a perfect palate cleanser. The cocktails are all unique and allow you to real enjoy the each ingredient. This isn't a place to get a rum and coke, this is an experiential destination. The only reason it is not 5 stars in it being out on Treasure Island, we arrived easily but trying to walk around there is so much construction that we couldn't really walk around easily. But if you have a car definitely make the trip over.

Google
Amazing service from Xavier! Some of the best gin we have ever tasted, and the chocolate bourbon is a dream!! Try the Trees Knees and Ginger Whisky Smash cocktails…delicious. Don’t miss out on this gem if you are visiting San Francisco!!

The owners, Gordon and Ian, are amazing, friendly, very knowledgeable, genuinely down to earth, nice guys. Enjoy an afternoon sipping on one of Ian's Amazing Refreshing Delicious mixed drinks while listening to music n relaxing with friends or try the flight of assorted tastefully hand crafted liquors. They are aways experimenting, to perfection, crafting new flavors, my favorite is the Earl Grey Gin, thou I do like the whiskey too..enjoy.

Google
Amazing experience. Must visit spot in SF. I'm not a big fan of hard liquor, but I was trying to expand my palate and find things do around SF. I saw this place popup on an AD and bookmarked for the next visit. One weekend morning when I decided to get some brunch at Mersea, I remembered about this place. It was right around the corner from the Mersea and I figured I would stop by and check it out. It was a small unassuming place by the road with a few chairs and tasting table setup outside. The place looked cute and cozy. I tried their various gin, bourbon, and whiskey along with the explanations. The server was busy with other tasks, but he was very attentive throughout the tasting, checking often and letting me try everything. My absolute favorite was the chocolate bourbon. It sounded terrible at first, but the product is amazing. It's not at all sweet and not too overwhelmingly chocolaty. Just a little hint of Dandelion chocolate goes so well with the bourbon. It's so smooth and fragrant that you can drink it straight. I brought a bottle as a gift to my family overseas and it was such a big hit. I wish I had bought more. It's such a uniquely SF and non-commercialized experience. I would definitely recommend visiting the distillery and buying a few bottles of the chocolate bourbon.

Google
Great place for tastings and handcrafted cocktails - their products are unique with flavorful punch of floral and chocolate aromas !! You will not be disappointed

Google
I really hate gin and never thought I would change my mind about it. This hibiscus lavender caught my attention 3 months ago, when I went for a fundraiser in SF and I kept looking for it. I loat the business card of the owners and finally I remember the name of the distillery. I opened a bar now and looking forward to carry this itfine alcohol and introduce it to our Redwood City residents . This gin tastes very good and I hope I ll get to visit the distillery soon .

Yelp
Was directed here from a Groupon and it turned out to be quite lovely! It looks to be a new establishment, so still some quirks they're ironing out but don't let that deter you from going! We did the flight of spirit tasting and MAN OH MAN DO THOSE LITTLE SHOTS PUT SOME HAIR ON YOUR CHEST. I'm a weakling to certain spirits raw, so I naturally I needed to chase some down with a little water. If you're bold, then you'll be fine. If you're like me, bring your own chase! There's a little market down the way if you're looking for some food/snacks (we were told cocktails are limited until they get a kitchen installed). We were given such great insight on the distillery and the differences of flavorings, we each took a bottle home! Those have since been emptied so definitely worth grabbing one or some to enjoy! It was fun once the music got going, each table was vibing with one another so it was amazing to meet new people. We were super lucky to grab this on a perfect day. It was overcast but also sunny, was an adorable little atmosphere. Parking was perfect, too. I'm almost certain this place is dog friendly, or at least were when we went but things might change once they add on! Anyway, you should definitely put a group together or plan a date here!

Yelp
What a great discovery Treecraft Distillery was riding our bikes from Oakland on the Bay bridge bike trail to Treasure Island! Our bike party of four decided to make a pit stop here after lunch on our way back across the bridge. We were most interested in the whisky and the rum fermented with whisky yeast. Three of us decided to do a bit of tasting. - all very flavorful, smooth spirits which went down easy. I took home the chocolate bourbon, American whisky and rum. The prices for each bottle are so reasonable at $40- $45 each. There's also a casual seating area where people were congregating and enjoying their spirits. Unfortunately for us, this would not have been a great idea with all of us on bicycles. Treecraft is a destination worth visiting to try their local made vodka, gin, whiskies and rum when going to Treasure Island. I'm a fan of supporting local. I'd like to try their vodka and gin on my next visit. For now, I enjoy the American whisky over rocks though!

Yelp
Like lots of other reviewers, I was found Treecraft through Groupon. The distillery itself is small and there is an area out front with tables for the tastings. It was a cute place and parking was easy. I liked that it was a little bit in the middle of nowhere and there weren't many people around until we were getting ready to go...it seemed like we went from being the only people there to the place being packed in a matter of 15 minutes so I suggest coming early if you want to avoid the crowds. We came on a hot July day with a group of 5 but one was a DD and we brought our small dog as always. The fact that it is dog friendly is one of the main reasons we came. The porta-potty they have near the tables for use was clean enough, but really hot on a warm day after a few drinks. The owner/maker did our tasting and for our drink at the end, I requested something "off menu" made with the spirit I most preferred. I was not disappointed. We ended up getting a bottle of our favorite to take home. Overall, it was a nice way to spend an hour or so together and we enjoyed being able to support a small business and learn a little along the way. If you love gin, as one person in our group did, then I highly recommend coming but even if you don't this is a nice little experience and a good way to sample new flavors and learn about local business.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a spirits tasting back in November. Got to try three different kinds of gin, a vodka called Spirit of Oakland, their American Whisky, and their Chocolate Bourbon. Their chocolate bourbon was by far my favorite. They use cacao nibs from local chocolate shop Dandelion to infuse a chocolate flavor that is evident throughout. Ended up purchasing a bottle. While I'm not a fan of gin, I appreciated that the staff members took the time to explain how gin was made and even took out a whole array of spices and botanicals to showcase all the different flavor profiles of the gin they have to offer (lavender hibiscus, London Dry, Earl Grey). If you're not in the mood for spirits, they also serve cocktail drinks. Overall, I found it a very enlightening experience and the service was very attentive, informative, and welcoming. Definitely stop by if you're on Treasure Island!

Yelp
We had a lovely time doing the six flight tasting at Treecraft Distillery earlier this month. Gordon was a wonderful host, the house-made cocktails were delicious, and we all walked away happy and buzzed to various degrees. RESERVATIONS // We had a large group of 11 and made a reservation beforehand via their website's contact form. (No reservations necessary for parties under 6 people.) Note: they currently have a Groupon deal that's an incredible steal! Groupons are only allowed for parties of 6 max. THE TASTING EXPERIENCE // When we arrived, one of the large tables had already been set up for us, and we all settled in with some water and snacks. We were big fans of nomming on the the peanuts and mini pretzels during the tasting. Gordon described each of the six spirits and the techniques and ingredients that went into giving them their unique flavors, and we each got little plastic cups to sample them. I don't drink alcohol often (and never straight, until today) - but I thought all of the spirits were quite smooth and easy to drink (all things considered). The vodka was the easiest for me to sip, and my whiskey-loving friends particularly enjoyed the chocolate bourbon whisky. THE COCKTAILS // For the house-made cocktails, my favorites were: + Moscow Mule (Treecraft vodka, ginger beer, freshly squeezed lime juice, bitters): super refreshing. I could see myself consuming this way too quickly. + Ginger Whiskey Smash (Treecraft whiskey, ginger, honey, freshly squeezed lemon juice): I really enjoyed stealing sips of this from my friends' glasses. The flavors worked together really well. There was a thick bubbly foam on top (from the honey?) and the drink overall had a more viscous texture. I also tried the Trees Knees, which had strong notes of lavender from the lavender hibiscus gin, and the French 75 cocktail (earl grey tea flavored gin, fresh squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, Prosecco), which was not bad but I'm not as big of a fan of the strong juniper taste. THE VIBE // The tasting was all outdoors, which allowed us to enjoy the sunny weather on Treasure Island and felt safer during COVID. The outdoors space was set up nicely and on a mostly quiet street on Treasure Island. There's also a port-a-potty which you might need after all that liquid. (Hydration is key! Drink lots of water too.) I appreciated Gordon's great customer service. Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the bartender who was mixing our cocktails, but I want to give him a shout-out too for the aforementioned cocktails. TAKEAWAY // We had a lot of fun trying Treecraft's spirits. We ended up buying a few bottles of the vodka and chocolate bourbon to bring home. I could see myself coming back here for the delicious house-made cocktails and to enjoy the peaceful outdoors environment on Treasure Island. I hope more people get to check out their craft in-person!

Yelp
A hidden gem on Treasure Island! I found Treecraft Distillery on Groupon and couldn't pass up such a good deal. My husband and I love wine tasting (but are newbies when it comes to spirit tasting), and were excited to try something new. We arrived at 3:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon and were seated in about 10 minutes. The location is small and reservations are only required for parties of 6 or more. Only street parking is available, but it wasn't difficult to find. The only downside of the location is that if you need to use the bathroom, they only have a porta potty. Out of the 6 liquors we tasted (including gin, vodka, and whisky), my favorite was the lavender gin and we purchased a bottle to-go. The cocktails were also a steal at only $10 each (in SF)! I'd recommend both the tree's knees and ginger whisky smash. The highlight of our visit was definitely how accommodating and knowledgeable the staff was! I'm bumping up my rating to 5 stars because of their customer service. Would definitely visit again!

Yelp
TIPS: - get lunch at Mersea, short drive over to Treecraft for tasting - walk-ins are welcome but call ahead of time if you're in a big party - snacks are welcome - bring sunglasses and hat if it's sunny, no shade and it's all outdoors - bring a jacket or leave it in the car in case the bay breeze comes through - check on Groupon for deals! - this was really enjoyable, will be back! LOCATION: Treasure Island, SF with plenty of street parking. It's quiet and relaxing, away from the hustling streets in the city. EXPERIENCE: Great! My group made a reservation ahead of time for 13 people (highly recommend for large groups!). They were highly responsive and helpful to answer all of our questions. On the day of the event, they were patient and friendly with our party and we all had a fun time enjoying the sunny weather and delicious spirits and cocktails. Our reservations were for six spirit tastings (3 Gins, 1 Rum, 1 Whiskey and 1 Chocolate Bourbon) and 1 cocktail of our choice.

Yelp
I spotted Treecraft Distillery on the map when looking around for something to do after a nice brunch on Treasure Island, and was curious but a bit hesitant given the low number of reviews. But I'm so glad I gave it a chance because Treecraft has become one of my favorite places to grab a drink now! No need to travel all the way to Napa to get a quality tasting experience of fine vodka, gin, and bourbon. The patio is a bit small and doesn't have any shade, so beware if going around peak suntime. There also isn't much scenery around since it's in an undeveloped and suburban area of the island, but the taste of their cocktails and attentive staff will make you forget about these shortcomings. So creative: gin infused with lavender and earl grey, and bourbon made with cacao nibs from Dandelion Chocolate are just examples. They even give you a tasty snack mix to chomp on with drinks for free!

Yelp
Got the groupon, and it was super worth it! The owner was really knowledgeable and attentive and we enjoyed the tasting and the cocktail after. The space itself isn't the cutest but it's inviting and open-- good for groups of 4-6.

Yelp
I got a Groupon (~$25) here for my friend and I to try. I couldn't survive the tasting, it's too strong for me, but it's a cool experience, as I've never even ventured to treasure island before and I grew up here. The Groupon comes with a tasting for two & two cocktails, one per person. Pretty cheap, but I wouldn't really drive back to treasure island tbh, it is just out of the way.

Yelp
I went here with my partner for a tasting that we found through groupon. It was both our first time at a distillery in the Bay Area. There are only open in the afternoon during the weekends. Our server was very informative on the distillery process and all the ingredients that went into making the liquor. We had three tastings of gin and three tasting of whiskey. Although we are not huge fans of gin or whiskey, the presentation of each sample we got were great. Overall it was a good experience! The only downside of the place is the restroom situation are portapotties, and some of them do not have running water for washing hands. Visit date: 2/15/20

Yelp
Cute outdoor vibe! Very good gin! Made on site and they offer a tasting flight. Also have yummy cocktails

Yelp
My fiancé and I stumbled across this place and stopped for tasting. Let me tell you we had a great time with the gin and whisky tasting. We left with the chocolate bourbon and hibiscus gin bc they were so good. We will definitely be back as service was good and atmosphere/ vibe was great!!

Yelp
Nice vodka and whiskey cocktail and tasting options. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor seating in the sun. Dog friendly. Great for small groups too.

Yelp
Whoa! I didn't know this place existed!!! Only because we had a birthday luncheon nearby did our big group walk over here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon!! Stuck among the kinda dreary buildings of Treasure Island, this diamond in the TRUE rough holds a few unique alcohols which I will need to return to taste. They serve a flight of whiskey, rum, gin that are infused with some wonderful herbs / botanicals!!! A definite must try! To top it off they had a small band playing to make the mood a lil' more moody...keke! Treecraft is a nice relaxing place for your slow moving day!
google avatar

Ping L.

Yelp
Got here with plenty of time to taste, host said they couldn't serve us. Sounds like they weren't interested in business.

Yelp
We went to this distillery last Sunday for tastings and a cocktails from Groupon. Amazing! They have a variety of gins, they all taste different since they use different combinations of herbs and teas, and a low ratio of juniper. I enjoyed them all, but my favorite was the earl grey one and had my cocktail made with it! We also tried a rum and two whiskeys. All delicious and different. They do some experimentation with their spirits, which I also find very cool. Nice place too, the bar and tables are set up outside the distillery, but you still get to see the equipment inside since it's also an open. They also give you a little box with a savory trail mix to snack on while you drink, which was a nice tough. We were served by the owner who explained everything from the flavors, process of making each, what each spirit was made with, what herbs went into what, etc. Amazing experience! Learned a lot. Oh, we also bought 4 bottles and will definitely come back for more.

Yelp
A great experience. The owners could not have been friendlier or more helpful, and the cocktails were fantastic! As locals visiting TI for the first time, this was a true find. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
There are no words adequate to tell about this experience. Just go. Gordon and Nate know more about distilling than you will ever hope to understand. They are experts I their field. You will be blessed to taste the fruits of their labor. Exquisitely distilled gin, rum and whiskey under their expertise and you will get the benefit of their years of hard work for the benefit of an afternoon of enjoyment. Just go.

Yelp
I discovered Treecraft Distillery when I was searching Groupon one day. They had an offer for two tastings and two drinks for a very reasonable price, so I purchased it for a little gift for my husband. I'm not a big alcohol drinker, so I only tasted the lavender hibiscus gin straight and gave the rest to my husband. Of the gins he enjoyed the lavender hibiscus the best, but he loved all of the whiskey featured. Lastly ,for our mixed drinks, my husband ordered the whiskey smash and I ordered the trees knees. My drink was good, but my husbands drink was delicious! His drink was so good in fact that after we walked the island we decided to go back so we could both get another. And at 7.50 a drink how could you not?! We very much enjoyed our drinks and time at tree craft distillery and recommend it to anyone wanting to try some quality liquor or mixed drink!

Julie M.

Yelp
Gordon and Joseph were awesome and showed us a great time for our spirit tasting for 10 people! They were really accommodating for such a large group and the service was excellent. I especially liked the chocolate bourbon and can't wait to make some cocktails with the bottle I bought. Seating is outdoors, vibe is friendly and chill, and the cocktails were delicious. I'd like to come back when they have their Earl Grey gin back in stock! Highly recommend this distillery as a fun outing with friends! Thank you Gordon, Joseph and the Treecraft Distillery team!

Yelp
A definite must try if you're in the area! My boyfriend and I went to treasure for brunch and then stumbled upon Treecraft while driving around looking at the sights. It was a spur of the moment decision and hands down the best decision we made that day. I ordered the tasting flight that gave us a tour of their gins (lavender was so GOOD), vodka, whiskey and bourbon. I'm going to be honest, I'm not a spirits aficionado, but I know good liquor when I taste it. Each one of the samples was superb, deep, distinct flavor profiles. They walked you through the distilling process and you could really tell that they cared about the quality. I ended learning a lot and also left with some exceptional vodka and a killer chocolate bourbon.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! Seriously some of the best spirits we've had on our trip to the Bay Area, and the owner distillers were friendly, and super informative. We love our visit and will definitely be back on our next trip to the area!

Yelp
Visited on April 13, 2019 and Treecraft Distillery couldn't have been more fun! Sunny day with a slight breeze after brunch at Mersea we met Gordon and Nate. Grain to Glass passion with sustainable practices was the theme. While we tasted bees were visiting with us but Gordon explained they have 5 bee hives on the roof of the distillery. Honey collected is made into mead starting the vodka and the rum. All products were tasty but we stayed for cocktails. Lots of guests brought their dogs who also were very friendly. Great product, cool people, chill place to learn about distilled spirits! I highly recommend!

Yelp
Nate and Gordon have a good thing going on at Treecraft. We had a company outing at Treecraft for a tasting and it was a great time. We had the entire tasting area to ourselves and it was lovely. We were greeted with waters and a custom cocktail (ours was whiskey ginger and honey). If memory serves me right, we sampled two vodkas, two gins, and two whiskeys. They took turns walking us through the origins and ingredients of each and it was very interesting. You can tell they put their heart and soul into making these spirits. Quite a few of us left with bottles of the Lavender Hibiscus Gin (as well as the whiskey) which we will have shipped back to Boston because it was that good. Highly recommend doing a tasting! Thanks, Treecraft, for a memorable experience!

Yelp
So we came here because I wanted to do something diff! We've done wine tasting, beer tasting but tasting at a distillery? This was new! So HAPPY we decided to do it! Came here for my birthday - they did a private tasting just for little ol' me! I loved it. Gordon was wonderful. Super patient with all our questions. Everything was great! So much fun. All of it was delish, really. Gordon knows his stuff, so informative. My fave was the Lavender & Hibiscus Gin but we had to leave with whiskey. The whiskey is goood and I'm not a whiskey drinker. EVERYTHING they make is good! Might I add they get super brownie points in my book for keeping everything about their business local! For more info on what i mean by that - you must go! Do not miss out!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I found a Groupon for Treecraft and decided to have a date day! The gentlemen helping us were so wonderful and knowledgeable. They didn't have rum at the time, but they actually found a bottle hidden in the back and let me taste it. It was SO GOOD. I don't like dark alcohol much, but my boyfriend loved all the whiskey options. I very much enjoyed the gins more than I usually do. I cannot wait until they are open again to get some rum and gin for my house!
google avatar

Shani P.

Yelp
I used to live behind them! When they are open the cocktails are really cheap for the SF area and really delicious. The chocolate bourbon is my favorite and I always have a bottle in my house at all times. If you're near TI make sure to stop by you won't regret it.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Gordon and Nate were the best! We've done all the SF touristy stuff years ago and wanted to check out something off the beaten path. Really enjoyed the tastings & tour and found out they even will host events up to 150 people! I highly recommend getting a cocktail after the tasting...can't beat the value and it was soooooo good! Fun way to spend an afternoon (& and uber/lyft service available). Thanks again, guys! Let us know if you need help at your next 5,000+ labeling session, haha ! #GrainToGlass

Yelp
I loved my experience here. Gordon gave an excellent presentation with the tastings. The spirits and cocktails were great. Most ppl fell in love with the Lavender Gun, but my personal favorite was the Vodka.

Yelp
So I live in the LA area and heard about this place from a long time friend. As soon as I heard about the lavender gin, being that lavender is one of my favorite flavors, I knew I HAD to try it! I was a bit concerned at first because lavender can be overpowering. The fact that I couldn't go on site to try it because I live so far away, and also Covid on top of that, was a bummer. But I decided to order it anyway. I'm SO glad I did!! This gin is AMAZING!!! I'm so glad I ordered 2 bottles. The flavor is delicate yet pronounced and everything I was expecting or could have wanted, and more. I mixed it with St Germaine, Solerno blood orange liqueur, and a triple sec (all in separate cocktails), along with one drink just on its own with soda. Each cocktail was a delight. You can't go wrong!! It compliments every flavor. This will now be a necessity in my liquor cabinet. I cannot wait to try their other items!!!

Kassandra P.

Yelp
Once again we had a great experience at Treecraft! Gordon does a phenomenal job explaining the variety of spirits as well as touching on the distillation process(es) for the different types of spirits. I HIGHLY recommend taking your family members, friends, acquaintances, those you don't know yet, etc. Did I mention Nathan churns our some pretty dang good cocktails as welThis was our third trip out to Treecraft and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon!

Yelp
amazing distillery to checkout if you're in the city. it's on treasure island, but if you're coming from SF, you don't need to pay the toll for a round trip. it's a quaint little place and the owners are so genuine and personal. Their cocktails are cheap at $7.50. A must to checkout

Tomo K.

Yelp
It's hard to find, but totally worth it. $10 for tasting, and he'll give you 6 different liquor. The vodka was really smooth, and Lavender Hibiscus Gin was fantastic!
google avatar

Yelp
This isKiller spirits and great location on Treasure island. I love the Gin And whiskey vodka and more Gin. Got my money's worth amazing thanks for bring it up a knoch

Yelp
We found Treecraft after visiting Treasurefest and we are still talking about how amazing it is. Gordon and Nate were very informative and friendly, answering any and all questions we had regarding distilling. The tastings were excellent. I am not particularly a gin lover but their gin has converted me, so unique and delicious. We had the Bees Knees and Red Snapper cocktails after the tasting and holy cow were they tasty! Totally worth the trip, we will absolutely be coming back! Even if we can find the gin in the store nothing beats the experience of hanging out at the distillery.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Came here with my family to do a tasting and grab a cocktail. The lavender gum is to die for amazing. Even if you aren't a fan of gin the flavor of the aromatics used to create this gin was so flavorful. The earl grey was meh. The rum was a tad sweet. The whiskey was also amazing. It was slightly smoky and sweet since it was more like a bourbon. It def tasted more than a $35 whiskey. On the rocks this would have been a perfect cold SF warm you up type of drink. The small bath whiskey was a bit sweet for my liking. It was also syrupy. The highlight was the cocktails and I liked the ginger whiskey drink but the best was their version of the bees knees made with the lavender gin. We asked for less honey in our drinks so you could really taste the gin or whiskey which we prefer. Loved that the whole entire experience was outdoors so make sure to pick a nice day or bundle up. Also use the restroom before as there are only port o potties which I hate. Buy you tasting on Groupon if you want the free cocktail otherwise tasting is $10 and cocktail is $7.50. And plan on buying a bottle of the lavender gin. Support local small business please! They work hard at their craft!

Yelp
Totally enjoyed the Anchor tour. Worth the price of admission. The staff is very passionate and knowledgeable about their beers and the company. Would be a great day for a group of friends to go together.

Yelp
Great place!! Amazing products. The gins are fantastic!!! Can't wait to taste the fully matured whiskey when it is ready.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this gem post-Aracely brunch. I didn't know what to expect, but I was very pleased! Gordon was extremely warm, knowledgeable, & fun! I had the gin/vodka/whiskey flight & whiskey cocktail...what a delight! The gins were specifically AMAZING!!!!!!! I will visit Gordon & Nate again; they're the best!
