We had a lovely time doing the six flight tasting at Treecraft Distillery earlier this month. Gordon was a wonderful host, the house-made cocktails were delicious, and we all walked away happy and buzzed to various degrees.
RESERVATIONS //
We had a large group of 11 and made a reservation beforehand via their website's contact form. (No reservations necessary for parties under 6 people.)
Note: they currently have a Groupon deal that's an incredible steal! Groupons are only allowed for parties of 6 max.
THE TASTING EXPERIENCE //
When we arrived, one of the large tables had already been set up for us, and we all settled in with some water and snacks. We were big fans of nomming on the the peanuts and mini pretzels during the tasting.
Gordon described each of the six spirits and the techniques and ingredients that went into giving them their unique flavors, and we each got little plastic cups to sample them.
I don't drink alcohol often (and never straight, until today) - but I thought all of the spirits were quite smooth and easy to drink (all things considered). The vodka was the easiest for me to sip, and my whiskey-loving friends particularly enjoyed the chocolate bourbon whisky.
THE COCKTAILS //
For the house-made cocktails, my favorites were:
+ Moscow Mule (Treecraft vodka, ginger beer, freshly squeezed lime juice, bitters): super refreshing. I could see myself consuming this way too quickly.
+ Ginger Whiskey Smash (Treecraft whiskey, ginger, honey, freshly squeezed lemon juice): I really enjoyed stealing sips of this from my friends' glasses. The flavors worked together really well. There was a thick bubbly foam on top (from the honey?) and the drink overall had a more viscous texture.
I also tried the Trees Knees, which had strong notes of lavender from the lavender hibiscus gin, and the French 75 cocktail (earl grey tea flavored gin, fresh squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, Prosecco), which was not bad but I'm not as big of a fan of the strong juniper taste.
THE VIBE //
The tasting was all outdoors, which allowed us to enjoy the sunny weather on Treasure Island and felt safer during COVID. The outdoors space was set up nicely and on a mostly quiet street on Treasure Island. There's also a port-a-potty which you might need after all that liquid. (Hydration is key! Drink lots of water too.)
I appreciated Gordon's great customer service. Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the bartender who was mixing our cocktails, but I want to give him a shout-out too for the aforementioned cocktails.
TAKEAWAY //
We had a lot of fun trying Treecraft's spirits. We ended up buying a few bottles of the vodka and chocolate bourbon to bring home. I could see myself coming back here for the delicious house-made cocktails and to enjoy the peaceful outdoors environment on Treasure Island. I hope more people get to check out their craft in-person!
