Wow, word of mouth is definitely working for this joint, I must say. Got there at 11:30 a.m. to see a packed house. I was lucky enough to snag the last table, though, so big sigh of relief. Now...why 5 stars now as opposed to my 4 star review? Because they deserve it, that's why. Because there's a difference between BBQ that makes people full and BBQ that makes people happy. I don't just leave this place stuffed, I leave here wanting to come back tomorrow, and smiling at the thought.
As MUCHHHH as I wanted to try the "roll up your sleeves" ribs this go around...the pulled pork sandwich was calling my name and I couldn't resist. I barely glanced at the menu, in fact, because I knew it wouldn't matter. Pulled pork it was. Between two pieces of thick, garlicky texas toast. And with the "sweet" sauce? I can't even tell you...partly because I'm starting to drool. Winner winner pulled pork dinner. What puts it over the top is the bark that's chopped in with the meat. That slight crunch to compliment the soft shreds of pork. I just...sat there wanting to savor the taste, really, that's what it comes down to. Top rated sides: Baked beans, corn fritters, collard greens, onion rings. The mac n cheese, you ask? Borderline "meh" and "so-so". Banana pudding very popular, though.
I "people glanced" the other tables...not much talking going on...just satisfied grunts and nods of approval being exchanged between bites. Nice to know I'm not alone :)
