The Way to Your Brain Is Through Your Stomach | Eater

"In the 1920s, Dr. Henry Cotton championed a practice called “surgical bacteriology,” carrying out radical removals of patients’ colons (and recommending tooth extractions) to eliminate presumed harmful gut bacteria. He claimed very high cure rates, but the operations had an alarmingly high mortality rate of about 30% and left many survivors severely compromised by the loss of major portions of their digestive systems." - Claudia Geib

This hospital was excellent. The staff took great care of us. Please people if you need help do not hesitate to come here. Be serious about your mental well being. It is a sign of self respect and also integrity including dignity to come here. Do not let yourself succumb to mental illness, it does not have to be hard.

I was there on or about 1987 as a patient. It was horrible. Thankfully I was able to call my parents, and when I did, I was constantly begging for them to get me out of there. Thankfully they finally did and I was transferred to Carrier clinic which was like heaven by comparison. I have no idea what Trenton psyche is like now, but I wouldn't recommend it based on my experience.

No star. I had to click on one or it would not post. They even force you to give them at least one!. I don't know about how they treat their patients, but if it's anything like the way they treat family calling in to obtain information as simple as visiting procedures, where their loved one is so one can call him/her; then it is scary. Something as simple as asking to be transferred to the nurse's station where the patient is so that you can speak with him/her is replied to in a rude, unfriendly manner. "I don't know you!" "Just come visit and find out what you need to know!" This is in response to asking if I can speak with the patient; after I was told prior to admission that I could just call and speak with him and I could call and ask any questions I had. Yeah, right! I sincerely hope they don't treat the patients the same way. The tone they use from the moment they answer the phone, how they cut you off before you can tell them the reason for your call and the rudeness when you tell them why you are calling (after being interrupted one hundred times) is appalling to say the least. I wonder if being nasty and rude is a requirement to work there? It must be, because I cannot believe the entire staff would be this rude unless it is mandatory by their job description.

This is the worse place to ever receive treatment in the state of New Jersey. TLU is the absolute worst building On the grounds. Staff are allowed to harass you and provoke you constantly and they most of the time they're busy just calling the cops on you for being 5 minutes late to a destination. I've been accused of so many things without ever have proof or reason just because a staff member didn't like me. I've been falsely accused and degraded and basically told that "you're a patient, you have no constitutional rights"... worse place ever please avoid like the plague. Why do you think people come right back? There is no treatment to help those who really need and they linger people along who don't need to be there anymore. Trust me ask any person discharged from there. They don't even have to consider you dangerous as the statues provide under title 30 of new Jersey statues and they still hold you there without any sound or reason. This place needs to be reported.

I used to feel this was a good place for my son. He's been back and forth there since 2005 and the team used to be very copperative and showed concern. He was admitted in March of this year 2021 and released two weeks later without a complete plan for the PACT team he is involved with. The team did not know he was being discharged and the case manager did communicate with either of us. Although, my son is grown he still has a disability. He returned to THP from Robert Wood Johnson on the April 21, 2021 again because his mental state was not stable. We've spoken everyday until the 25th. I left a message on his case manager phone and he has not returned my call. T I've called the patient phone numerous times and keep being buzzy. I don't know what's going, however this is very alarming for me, especially when he calls everyday or every other day. He has never gotten in trouble there. The covering team that evaluated my son last month is nothing like those we've met back in 2017 and previous years. They cared and wanted to help the patients. This is supposed to be a place where patients can get help and be supported by the staff through their recovery. I guess they feel most families don't care because of their mental illnes, but I am one who loves her son and fights for him to get help.

This beautiful, historic, ledgendary, 167 year old psychiatric institution offers great scenery and a well knowledgeable staff. The people are friendly and welcoming and the buildings are well kept, And the beautiful abundant amount of land is very well maintained by upstanding workers. Great facility. But fix the front sign, looks a bit tacky, get Matt on that

Yelp
I can't believe I'm about to write a review for Trenton Psychiatric Hospital (TPH). I have a long history with this place. No, I was NOT a patient there. Haha. I went to college nearby from 2006-2010. I remembered getting emails once in a while about being on high alert due to an escaped patient from TPH. But it seems security has got better because I returned to my alumni for a graduate school from 2012-2014 and never got that email during my stay. Actually, I lived literally right across from the hospital during graduate school. It wasn't bad, I never felt I was in danger. Fast forward to 2017. On Thursday, I got a chance to go INSIDE! I had to be there for mental health court. This hospital is huge, almost like a college campus. There are many buildings. There are signs throughout pointing out the direction to different buildings. The security guard at the entrance was very nice and helpful in pointing me to the right place. Why the 3 stars? The staffs I encountered were unprofessional and communication was poor. I was told court starts 10am. I arrived 9:45am and was told to leave my phone in the car. I was put in a small enclosed room to wait for court to start. By 10:30am, I asked the security guard to notify the court that I am in the waiting room. He stated that he will. By 11am, I felt claustrophobic and needed a breathier. I left the small enclosed waiting room and went to the car. I checked my phone and saw that I have several missed calls and a voicemail from one of the court staffs asking me if I was running late. What! I quickly ran inside and told the security guard I needed to be in the court room. Upon arriving in the court, I told the staff I need to meet with the patient for a few minutes before court starts. He stated that I can't because I was already running late. I told me I cannot go into the court room without meeting with the client. So yeah. This was not a good first impression. It gets worse after court ended. But I'll leave that detail out due to my work. TPH needs to improve on communication and professionalism when it comes to their staffs. I can only imagine what the patients are dealing with on a daily basis.
