RESTAURANT REVIEW:
After a long but rewarding day, I needed some excellent Tex-Mex food. So where did I go? Tres Hermanos Restaurant located at 1332 W Lincoln Ave., on Milwaukee, Wisconsin's southside.
While I have eaten there numerous times, I have kept this secret to myself until now.
I walked in and was immediately welcomed with a big smile from the proprietor Ramon Orozco . I ordered a drink from their extensive bar and greeted some acquaintances before I proceeded to the dining room. I ordered one of their signature dishes, the "Tampiquena" ($19) and as usual, they knocked it out of the park. The dish includes a generous cut of grilled skirt steak, a cheese enchilada (I asked for onion to be added to mine), refried beans and Mexican rice. I justified my indulgence by reminding myself that it comes with a small serving of chopped lettuce with sliced tomatoes. It also comes with an order of corn or flour tortillas. I chose the corn.
As I still had another event to attend, I asked the server if they could rush my order. In most restaurants this would mean my meal would either be undercooked, or utilize meat and/or other items previously prepared. Not the case at Tres Hermanos.
The skirt steak was juicy and tender and seasoned to perfection. Too many restaurants over-season their meat to make up for cheaper cuts. The rice and beans were fresh and flavorful. No frozen or pre-packaged flavorless food here. And my enchilada was fresh with a perfectly flavored, authentic sauce.
Even though I was rushed, I could not help but finish the entire plate as each taste was a personal reward for the days efforts.
The environment is charming and decorated with authentic items and momentos brought back from Mexico by Ramon. Tres Hermanos offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
Iff you are looking for a lively environment to enjoy drinks and appetizers with friends, or if you are looking to enjoy a delicious meal, Tres Hermanos should be at or near the top of your list!
