From-scratch Italian kitchen with espresso, beer, wine & spirits in a relaxed storefront space.
"Stop by Trevi opposite Highbury and Islington station for a quick trough of lasagne, and enough cheesy carbs to guarantee a well-deserved nine-hour sleep. It’s the kind of Italian that favours fullness over finesse. But, alongside a little booth looking out on the rest of the room, that’s all you need sometimes. Of course, spag bol and carbonara feature on the menu too, and lots of the menu is priced around the £10 mark. " - jake missing, sinead cranna, daisy meager
"Every time we’re on the bus going down Holloway Road or coming up it towards Highbury Corner, we get a pang of anxiety. “Where’s Trevi?”, we think. We can’t see it. It’s gone. Has it been absorbed by the little Waitrose to make a big Waitrose? No, there it is. Phew. Exhale. That’s how inconspicuous this no-nonsense Italian is. The lasagne is sloppy and the spaghetti is al dente. There’s Moretti on tap and the wine has given us heartburn umpteen times. But the regulars and randomers who fill the wooden booths are always kept warm and (very) well-fed." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
"It’s Monday. 7pm. Energy levels are low. There’s no food at home. You lost the will and ability to think coherently some time ago. You’re fairly certain a pigeon just shouted lasagne at you. Good idea winged friend. Stop by Trevi opposite Highbury and Islington station for a quick trough of lasagne, and enough cheesy carbs to guarantee a well deserved nine hour sleep. It’s the kind of Italian that favours fullness over finesse. But, alongside a little booth looking out on the rest of the room, that’s all you need." - jake missing
"Don’t get us wrong, we love a plate of handmade pici and a glass of merlot, but there are times when you’re looking for something else on your own. Something that may or may not be a portion of lasagne big enough for three, but which you’re ordering very much for one. Along with a glass of house red. Trevi is that kind of Italian. It’s a homely, no-nonsense place where you can pitch up in a little corner booth, hide away for an hour or so, and have a lot of cheap and cheerful pasta. You’ll leave much more content. Believe us." - jake missing
"Fixed seating keeps things neat and tidy. It creates more space, makes floors easier to clean, and keeps the dining room in configuration. If Trevi Ristorante’s angular burgundy booths were installed when the place opened, then they’ve been exemplifying these benefits for 60 years. Those magical seats are an excellent place to enjoy hearty servings of Italian food. There’s a whole host of old-school dishes on offer here, from the breaded veal to the grilled lamb liver, but the obvious choice is the bolognese, which is meaty, peppery, and as deeply savoury as a pint of soy sauce." - Isaac Rangaswami
