Plateau Bar Criticized For Throwing Fundraiser For Bouncer Convicted of Sexual Assault | Eater Montreal

"I report that TRH-Bar, a Plateau skateboarder bar (pronounced “Trash Bar”), ignited a major controversy after organizing a “Free Steve” fundraising party set for March 6 to support former bouncer Steve Bouchard, who was convicted of three counts each of sexual assault and armed assault for attacks on his then-partner Martine Beaudet-Aune in 2014–2015 and was sentenced to 18 months in early 2017; he appears still in prison after an October early-release request was denied. The event was proposed by Bouchard’s sister and pitched as helping his reintegration, and one of the bar’s owners, Fred Vitu, defended it by saying Bouchard had paid his debt to society, but Beaudet-Aune said the party felt like they were laughing in her face, showed disrespect toward sexual-assault victims, and noted Bouchard had not shown remorse. After heavy criticism the bar took down its Facebook page, later reactivated it to post an apologetic message and pledged to donate double the party’s proceeds to an organization supporting sexual-assault victims, yet many people remained unconvinced and the bar received over 1,000 one-star reviews, including comments from as far away as France." - Tim Forster

Arguably the best bar I have ever been to. Went with my friends during September long and the music was amazing, the dance floor was popping, there is a Skate bowl you can watch, and a patio in the back when you need a break? The most fun I have had on a night out in a long time.

I got in for free because it was my birthday, so that was great! I felt comfortable in the club but it definitely felt more like “boy’s club” more than anything, or at least a very masculine one. We want to go back once we’ve learned to skate, and it has one of the coolest layouts of any club in Montreal.

Cool concept and space. Skate bowl is a fun attraction. Cheap beers and cheap cover + cost check. Shame about the DJ on Thursday night, played pretty awful Rap and couldn’t mix tracks. Was expecting some Punk music to be playing but can imagine it’s a fun place with good music or a live band on. We lasted 30 mins lol

Visited from New York, this bar was definitely the best place on the strip for me and my friends. We checked out Tokyo Bar and immediately came back here. If your a young, artistic person this is the place for you. Price of entry and drinks is fantastic as well. Only comment I would make on the down side is that most of the girls we talked to told us there were many guys that kept touching them, and we even saw it happen. Tokyo Bars rule about not allowing singular guys seemed to take care of this at their joint. Regardless this is the bar/club where we had the most fun at and we came back 3 times.
