Great venue but poor ownership.
The space has a lot to offer with nice views, good food and even better staff.
The food is good, very modern with a combination of local dishes which can be considered between traditional and fine dining.
The staff are really great! They ensure that every guest has a good experience and will go all out to make you feel comfortable.
Overall, the food and accommodation are very well thought out. Prices are more expensive than you would expect to pay so maybe not something to do every week.
However, (keep in mind that this has nothing to do with the staff and service you received while dining or staying here) there is a lot that needs to be said about the owners and how they run the place. We decided to have our wedding here because it fit most of our requirements; accommodation at the venue, plan B if it rains, different areas for the day, etc. Everything was going well until we started dealing with the florist. In the contract that you sign to have your wedding here, it states that any floral or decorations need to be ordered through their inhouse florist. This is normal for some places to do which we didn’t mind. Little did we know that the prices we would be quoted and the whole experience of dealing with her would end up being a disaster. We had known that specifically at this venue, the florist would charge extortionate amounts for barely any flowers or decorations, but we did not expect such incompetence and dirty tricks when we didn’t submit to her way of doing things. In the end we fired her and because flowers were not at all important to us, we ended up having a minimalist wedding with no flowers but instead with a lot of candles and bows. Apart from this, the mark up of some items were stupidly high which we just couldn’t justify including in our wedding. There was an option to have a spirit’s corner where people could come and have a shot with others and to share a moment with each other. The price for a bottle of Jameson whisky (standard whisky) was 110 euros, a mark up of 380%. Naturally, we decided not to have this at our wedding. These examples show that the owners simply want to make the most money from the couple as possible and will do everything possible to squeeze another couple euros from you. Another example of this was the fact that we only had 71 (without the band, wedding planner, photographer etc. which were another 10) guests at the wedding (minimum was 75). The band etc., would normally have a different menu than the guests because they don’t really have the time to sit down for the full meal which is usually cheaper for this reason. Instead of just charging us the staff menu for them, they charged 4 full price menus because we did not meet the 75-person minimum. This really showed the owners real intentions, mainly because we were one of the few couples that ALSO had an event on the Friday at the venue which meant an additional menu and all the accommodation full for an additional night (not something which is typical for local weddings). We thought that because of this, they wouldn’t really complicate with the lack of 4 people but sadly this was not the case. Having said that, we do not have any problem with paying a fair price for a wedding and we understand that these events need to be profitable for them as well, but when you see such high mark ups that are not justified, it just didn’t seem right.
Overall, I would recommend coming here for a drink and possibly something to eat. I highly recommend that the owners really think about how they approach weddings at their venue because unlike your typical business event, weddings are very different and require a more emotional and intimate approach. Also, they should do whatever they can to keep their staff happy because without them, this place would go downhill very quickly.
