The Best Pizza in Rome

"Monti has become a sea of mediocre cafes, aperitivo bars, and restaurants that might look good on the surface but peddle sub-par snacks, drinks, and meals. Trieste, meanwhile, both looks cute and serves very solid food. The shop is part of a small chain that started as a beach kiosk in Pescara in the 1950s and has grown to five locations since. The quick service and attention to quality means Trieste delivers consistently tasty pizza at a price everyone can afford." - Maresa Manara, Katie Parla

Trieste Pizza — Restaurant Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tell us about your first impressions when you arrived. The tiny place is white and well-lit, with pizza displayed in cast iron pans opposite the entrance. Place your order and stand up to eat, resting your tray on one of the ledges. What was the crowd like? Trieste attracts young Romans on a budget, especially students from the conservatory down the street and residents from the Monti neighborhood. What should we be drinking? All the usual suspects of pizza takeaways: water, ordinary wine, and industrial beer. Main event: the food. Give us the lowdown—especially what not to miss. Monti has become a sea of mediocre cafes, aperitivo bars, and restaurants that might look good on the surface but peddle sub-par snacks, drinks, and meals. Trieste, meanwhile, both looks cute and serves very solid food. The shop is part of a small chain that started as a beach kiosk in Pescara in the 1950s and has grown to five locations since. The quick service and attention to quality means Trieste delivers consistently tasty pizza at a price everyone can afford. And how did the front-of-house folks treat you? There's no need to tip for counter service, which can be slow and overwhelmed but remains friendly enough. Staff can help navigate the menu, but it's pretty straightforward since the pizzas are all displayed in plain sight. What’s the real-real on why we’re coming here? Trieste isn't worth going out of the way for, but it's a fine place to stop for a snack before or after a trip to the Forum or Colosseum or while strolling through the Monti neighborhood." - Katie Parla

Where to Eat the World’s Most Iconic Foods - Eater

"Rome tends to get overshadowed in the pizza world by Naples, but the Italian capital has unbelievable world-class pizza. The city is home to native styles like pizza in teglia, pizza alla pala, and pizza tonda; hybrid Roman-Neapolitan pizzas that are crispy yet chewy; oddball creations turned worldwide sensations like trapizzino; high-concept pizza finished with tweezers; and pies that celebrate the regional bounty of Lazio." - Eater Staff

The pizza here is simply the best I’ve ever tasted. Each bite is a delightful experience; fresh and tasty. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, making every visit feel special. I often wish they had a larger space to accommodate more people, as I know so many would love to enjoy this amazing food and atmosphere.

Google
Good pizza, lasagna, salads - good service and lively staff. You can order small size pizza, which -for us- is perfectly for a person appetite. The taste is great, dough is crunchy and chewy and toppings are of good quality. There are seats in side to sit for a quick bite (not comfy sit-down type.) The price is reasonable. Highly recommend when you are in the area.

Google
This is the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve eaten pizza all over Italy and New York and nothing comes close to this. The margherita, pepperoni, carbonara, prosciutto pies are all excellent. And the best part about this restaurant is the woman who runs it! She welcomed my brother and myself with such enthusiasm, we loved talking to her and she was thrilled when we told her how much we loved the pizza. At first she was shocked when were ordered so much for 2 people. We returned a week or so later and she immediately recognized us. We once again had a fantastic meal and she came over to thank us with a homemade cookie at the end. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Just go. Don’t even bother eating pizza anywhere else in Rome. You won’t find better food or hospitality!

Google
Trieste Pizza was the first spot we came across in Rome where we didn’t feel pressured to come in — and it turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip! The pizza was incredibly fresh and flavorful, with a great variety of options to choose from. The staff was welcoming and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. It was a relaxing and authentic experience, and we’re so glad we found it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great pizza without the touristy push!

Google
This place was so good I had to come back again. Definitely one of the best pizzas in Italy. If you’re in Rome, you must try this place. Nothing else to say of this place. They have a beautiful vegan and vegetarian option. So you will enjoy it.

Google
My wife and I were in Rome last week and she’d researched the best pizza places near our apartment. This one topped her list. And I’m not surprised. I wasn’t so keen on the menu at first because so many of them had so many vegetables I wasn’t keen on, but I had the Amatriciana and it was as good as the best pizza I’ve had. And I’ve had some pretty good pizza in Toronto, New York, Chicago and Detroit. The Coke was ice cold, which is important with a good pizza. The chairs were rather uncomfortable, though, but I could live with it given how good the pizza was. The service was really friendly, and be sure to check out the staff T-shirt. They are unique, to say the least.

Google
This is an epic walk-in place with local delies. Very small and cozy but with a personal touch and great value for the price! Me and my colleague went after a very packed work day and managed to rest and get full! Little pizzas are the best and we suggest to take a few and share. Thank you!

Google
I ordered Pizza Margarita medium, it was really nice and light. Price was 8 Euro which was not that expensive. The place was a bit hot, but all in all it was a good experience.

Yelp
Who shrunk my pizza? Tiny but mighty pizzas. They were all 4-5 euros and exceptionally delicious. We had the pepperoni because we obviously needed to compare the good 'ole American vs Italian. Definitely Italian won hands down. I'd skip the aranchini rice balls as they are microwaved. Looks like they've been sitting for a while and then reheated. This is an order at the counter and sit down until your state gets called. We were "California." The place is small. The air conditioning is weak and I'd place myself close to the tables near the outside. That said, this was one of the best pizzas!

Yelp
Stopped by as our last meal in Rome before taking off to the airport. It's probably a good thing that was the case because this place was so good and we would've come back every meal! The mini personal pizzas are great because you can order a couple and try a greater variety of pizzas. Both of ours were so good (prosciutto and Italian sausage). Service was very fast and vibes are great with a couple cute shops nearby. Added bonus for being very cheap!

Yelp
Trieste Pizza in Rome is a delightful find near the Colosseum. The Margherita and the daily special mushroom pizza were both exceptional, showcasing a thin crust with just the right balance of crunch and chew. The tomato sauce was especially memorable, bursting with a natural sweetness that elevated every bite. I think I rather like these types of pizza than the American counterpart. The service was excellent. While it's clear the area caters to tourists--with everyone walking in speaking English and the menu on the wall featuring English translations--it didn't detract from the experience. The welcoming atmosphere and high-quality ingredients made it a standout meal. If you're in the area and looking for authentic yet approachable pizza, Trieste Pizza is worth a visit.

Yelp
Delicious fresh pizza made to order! If you want to skip some of the crowds this is a charming neighborhood. Great service. Best pizza I've had so far!

Yelp
Great spot to have mini pizzas! Very different vibe from a traditional Italian pizzeria, but it's not a bad thing. As a tourist, it was great coming in and trying a bunch of different pizzettas. The staff were very nice. The pizzas themselves weren't the best we've had in Italy, but it was definitely a fun spot that allows for a ton of variety for people who want small bites or a quick snack on their trip. Our favorite one was the Margherita - keeping it nice and simple, but all were great!

Yelp
Excellent personal sized pizzas to go or eat in. Order at the counter and find a seat or get it to go. Service was friendly. They have small bottles of wine and bottles of beer. Modern vibe. Recommend it for a quick casual bite.

Yelp
Delicious pizza for our last meal in Rome! We were greeted by a very enthusiastic host who took our order and immediately welcomed us inside. He was so happy that it made us want to eat there! I got two smalls and my husband got a large which was perfect for us. I got to try two flavors: the margarita and one with pork sausage/broccoli. Both were amazing in their own ways, and prices were also reasonable.

Yelp
This place has such friendly workers! We had to go again on our second trip to Rome. The pepperoni pizza is so good. The sauce they use is phenomenal and the bread is cooked to perfection. This is a super casual place with seating in the back and front. This time, we went on a Sunday night and it wasn't as busy as the Saturday we had gone 1.5 years ago. Check it out! It's my favourite pizza spot in Rome!

Yelp
This is the BEST pizza I've ever had. This was our first spot in Rome and the employees at the front were super friendly. There was no wait and ample amount of seating in the back. The menus are at the front and you could take a seat and come back up to order. The pizza's come in a small and large size. We're glad we got the large because we each got our own flavor and it was perfect to keep us full and exchange flavors. The employee mentioned that they would shout "NEW YORKKK" when our order was ready which was hilarious. The pepperoni pizza was immaculate. So juicy, savory, and crispy. The crust was soft and crispy as well. The cheese was soft and so flavorful as well. Everything complimented each other and I was obsessed. We also ordered a popular pizza that came with ham and basil which was delicious. It was salty yet flavorful and creamy because of the cheese. It definitely had a more refreshing kick to it! 100% would recommend this spot, we even came back for dinner another day!

Yelp
Quick and easy, good pizza. Small place but still has a decent amount of seating. We went here at about 9:30PM on a Wednesday and it actually had a good amount of people but we were able to get in, grab a seat, and place our order pretty easily. You order at the counter when you're ready and it doesn't take long for your pizzas. We got the burrata crudo and pepperoni pizzas--they were both very good but the pepperoni was definitely better than the burrata. The burrata was simple--basically just cheese, sauce, olive oil, and dough with one piece of basil in the center. I wish it had more basil for sure. Overall good spot if you're looking for a quick meal.

Yelp
AWARENESS: Let me start by saying, Yelp or its app is not really a thing in Italy. Trip Advisor seems to be their goto or, just word of mouth. But luckily, the wife and I were able to use the Yelp app to find this spot. NARRATIVE: Trieste is a really small but quant pizza place with seating inside only, I would guess there is enough room and tables to accommodate around 12 to 14 persons. As you walk in the front door, your met by a low counter and just to the left, a glass covered view of the pizza's available. The menu, even though written in Italian, has what each pizza's make up is written in English or, toppings you'll understand. Once you've placed your order, the owner or one his several employees will ask you a simple question; "where are you from?" The question to your answers come later when, instead of them calling your name to pick up your food, they simply say; "hey California or New York," your pizza is ready. Very kool... My wife ordered a Margarita pizza and I went with the Carbonara. Both pizza's were cooked perfectly. Thin, light and not a lot of "gabagool" covering them. SCENE: Like I mentioned above. Trieste is a very small place but their food and reviews (even on Yelp) speak volumes about the service and food. Located about two blocks from our hotel (Double Tree by Hilton), this Is what one thinks of pizza when it comes to authentic Italian style. RECOMMENDATION(S): A must bookmark if in the Monti area of Rome.

Yelp
Delicious Delicious Delicious! Amazing pizza and super friendly staff! While you're at it, try the vegan rice ball.

Yelp
Best pizza in Rome! Every thing about this place was great, from the vibe to the service!!

Yelp
First the pizza is un-f&@?ing believable!! this is a must have on your trip! The crust is rich in flavor crispy and perfecto! they have vegetarian and vegan options! tiny inside but comfy and you really don't give a crap once you taste the pizza! I would sit in the alley up the street if that was the only place I had to indulge this amazing pizza! Service was also amazing! ALL CAPS: DO NOT MISS OUT AND NOT EAT HERE!

Yelp
Great pizza! This little hole in the wall is a gem. Read the reviews on Yelp and tried it. Friendly staff. The wine was a little expensive but the pizza made up for it. Definitely a place to try if you are in the area. Super casual. Order when you walk in and they will bring it to you. Seats about 20.

Yelp
Well, my first time in Italy and I've only been to Rome so, I'm no expert of regional Italian fare. Having said that, I tried some Roman style pizza at another place and it was very bland and not cooked weak on top. The bottom however was really crunchy, which I liked a lot. I decided to try Napoli style and this spot was near the coliseum, had high marks, and best of all, a single euro in affordability woo hoo! I ordered the a small pepperoni and a small alabatcha or something like that (it had blackened pig cheek and onions). Man o man, they were both delicious and perfect sizes and only €4 each. They were cooked equally on top and bottom with a great char and the sauce had plenty of flavor, meaning salt and garlic and all the good Italian classic flavors. The pepperoni they used looked more like ham but had ten times the flavor of basic pepperoni. I love NYC pizza but this stuff was just as good, and that's saying something! Roman pizza on the other hand tasted like bland tomato sauce with little salt and flavors. Maybe I just had a bad Roman place but I've read a few reviews about Roman fare in general and it's not as flavorful as other locales according to those. But, when in Rome....eat Trieste pizza!

Yelp
Best pizza in Rome and funny staff that made us feel welcomed! Small but easy seating.

Yelp
Two enthusiastic thumbs up! The staff was great, super cute, friendly and English speaking (even though we ordered in Italian and tried hard not to just speak English). We stopped by on a whim for a light lunch. At the counter we grabbed menus and found a table in the small dining room. There is no table service which was perfect for us. When we were ready to order we went back to the counter. They gave our order a nickname and we waited for that name to be called to go back and get our hot food. The pizza comes in two sizes. We got two small pizzas and an arancini plus two sodas. We wanted to try two different types instead of getting one large. The prices were great, about 4€ for a small pizza. We went with the potato and sausage, and the speck. A few other tables had a pizza with burrata that looked really good too. The arancini was small but tasty. The pizza was better. The speck was my favorite, so much flavor. The pizza crust was cooked perfectly and I wish we had gotten more to go for later in the afternoon! After we finished we brought the tray to the counter, paid our tab and said arrivederci to the staff.

Yelp
Awesome small & medium size pizza's. Not fancy looking interior or anything. Good service - walk up & order. Eat-in or take-out in the Monti district. Does offer beer & wine. Would def try again!

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 6/5 Ambiance: 5/5 This restaurant was close to our Airbnb and we decided to come here as our first food experience in rome. Upon our arrival, we felt that this was a home-y yet fun environment. There was laughter between the workers and the guests. My partner says "ciao" and the workers start speaking Italian to us. As our first Italian interaction, we felt at home. We both laughed as they realized we are non-italian speakers. Throughout our time here, my partner received many compliments for his amazing italian accent. After this interaction, the workers told us to sit and get comfortable, look at the menu and then to go back to order. They called on guests by calling where they're from. For ex; they called "California" when our order was ready. They also came and personally gave us napkins after realizing we forgot to get some at the front. Their service was amazing. We ordered a large Margherita, and two small carbonara/pepperoni. Margherita was FIRE, it melted in my mouth and the dough was so soft, chewy/melty, yet crispy with a good char. The pepperoni was the same as the margherita, but with pepperoni. Pepperoni was so good and a thick cut. Never tasted pepperoni with this certain pork flavor. The carbonara was interesting, the bacon released a good amount of fat which gave flavor but it felt greasy. The bacon tasted different from our bacon, it tasted cured then baked. The egg was a good touch but different. There was pepper on the carbonara and it was sooo good. We also had tiramisu, which I am not a big fan of. But it was ok, I am used to a more coffee flavor. I give this restaurant big props on easing our travel anxiety. It allowed us to feel more relaxed throughout our time here. It was my favorite interaction here in Rome.

Francisco M.

Yelp
Love it! Found this place by accident close to my hotel... enjoyed lunch here twice during my visit. I've tried the Greek salad, another house salad, and two different individual (small) pizzas. The service is quick, and the lovely woman working the register is friendly and welcoming--once the right music comes on, you'll see the chef enjoy himself and begin to dance while preparing orders. I'll definitely return on my next visit and hope the crew and the food remain. Ciao! "Arizona"
google avatar

Mony K.

Yelp
Nice and friendly service, English is okay here. They also have an English menu for you. This was my first pizza spot in Rome and it didn't disappoint. Hard to describe but the dough is completely different than what you get in America. It tasted fresh, had a good chew and was tender. I very much enjoyed my large order to myself.
google avatar

Bret T.

Yelp
What a great experience! Trieste is what you hope to find during travels, but rarely do. When you order the Burrata & Crudo, fold it in half and take that first bite; I will challenge you to say it is not one of the finest bites of pizza you will experience in your life. AND they have a great vibe with a staff seemingly living the life they were meant to live. I take 5 star reviews seriously and if nothing changes you will not be disappointed. Go Boston
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
We loved getting pizza here! The location is great. Unfortunately the area has a lot of mediocre pizza, but this place rises above the rest! The staff were very nice. We enjoyed chatting!
google avatar

Yelp
The best pizza in Rome! Everything is organic and the ingredients speak for themselves. Several options to choose from. We did 4 small pizzas and the rosemary, olives was out of this world. The pizza crust is out of this world. The guys serving the pizza are top tier and always dancing, singing and have a great time. G

Yelp
Loved this place! Staff is super nice and entertaining. Food came out quickly. The light and buttery flavor of the burrata cheese on the pizza was incredible.
google avatar

Anne C.

Yelp
This place is about 2 minutes from our airbnb. It's a very cute, small pizza joint. If you have kids and need to eat before noon, it's an excellent option. When we walked in, they gave us the English menu, asked us to grab a seat and come back up to order. Then they will call us when ready. We love the smaller pizzette option, perfect to try a few different flavors or for the kiddos. All the customers were American... but I don't see it as a tourist trap. The pepperoni pizza was really good. My favorite was broccoli rabe with sausage and a pate with onions. Service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
Great service!!! First night in Rome had to go for pizza and pasta. Fabulous! Get in early otherwise the line is out the door.

Yelp
Best pizza in Rome! And best lasagna in Rome! So yummy! Found this gem after our Coloseo tour. The Signora was so welcoming and friendly. What a beautiful woman! The pizzas....burata with prosciutto, pepperoni and margherita were the best we had in Rome during our 6days. The lasagna my daughter ordered was two thumbs up from the 9yo...from the first bite to the last. A small place so time it right to secure your table and enjoy this Roman Treasure! Gracie mille Signora...from Los Angeles!

Yelp
Incredible food and service. Staff is wonderful. Croquets were hand made to perfection.

Megan A.

Yelp
Literal best pizza I've ever had. sauce was tangy and it was so fresh. Definitely recommend if you like Neapolitan style pizza. Service was really friendly.
google avatar

Michele Z.

Yelp
I only got the small pizza (twice!), as a snack rather than as a meal. But it was great. Reasonably priced for the size and the service with a smile. I wish I were in Rome longer, just so I could get more pizza from here. Definitely the best snack around!
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Best pizza I have ever had in my entire life. And I've had pizza all around the world. Try the one with pig cheek.
google avatar

Patrick J.

Yelp
This place was a recommendation from the hotel staff, and man did it come through. This pizza was probably the best my wife and I have had on our 2 week honeymoon around Italy. Definitely make a point to stop by this small hole in the wall for some great pizza, and wonderful ambiance.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
We loved this small restaurant so much we went there twice! The individual-sized pizzas were delicious and a yummy side salad was perfect for a quick lunch. The counter-service was friendly and efficient ~ I highly recommend it!

Kris G.

Yelp
Very yummy Pizza! Fun little atmosphere. The workers were fantastic. Much love from Minnesota!
google avatar

Carmen W.

Yelp
Hilarious waiter, great pizza! One of my most favorite and memorable pizza experiences in Italy. There's an extensive menu to choose from with quick service. The tiramisu there was also delicious. Restaurant was very casual, and he'll call you by where you're from when the pizza is ready.

Laurel P.

Yelp
The employees are very kind but the food is so bad, beyond greasy and overall inedible
google avatar

Cyndi P.

Yelp
Delicious Pizza and fun staff!! Great variety of combinations and sizes. Coming back!!

Yelp
A great little pizza shop with lots of fun character. The service was great and the food absolutely amazing. Check it out!
google avatar

George A.

Yelp
Wow! Wow!!! I have not had a bad meal since I got here. But this is the best pizza I ever had! And I'm a cynical NYer! The staff is amazing! The pizza is crispy and fresh. The flavor is incredible!! Hidden on a small side street near the coliseum. The staff is worth mentioning again. Go!!!

Katie P.

Yelp
Our first trip to Rome and happened to see this on Yelp. Oh my goodness! The pizza was absolutely delicious. We each ordered a small and were able to share. Pizza was light and perfect. And while it may seem strange to recommend the potato chips, they are a must try, too. On the menu under fried, salt & pepper. They were divine. The guys working there were very friendly & made it an even better experience. As others have said, they ask where you are from & will call out your order based on that. I concur with other postings, this is a must try.
google avatar

Leyna K.

Yelp
An American goes to Italy desperate for some kick-ass authentic pizza. Do not go to the plazas which are 80% tourist traps. Go directly here, order burrata, spicy salami, carbona, etc. Drink an IPA maybe two. End it with a tiramisu. Be amazed at the friendly amazing service. Tell everyone how much you love Rome and Trieste.
google avatar

Kendall H.

Yelp
This place was so good! We tried both salads and a couple different pizzas. Everything was delicious and quick. The buratta and ham pizza especially was AMAZING! We'll definitely be going back again asap

Jennifer T.

Yelp
This was great pizza, amazing Tiramisu (best we had in 3 weeks of travel in Italy) and the staff was great. Forget two sizes....honestly.
google avatar

Vannessa G.

Yelp
The Roman style pizza was something that took some getting used to. Good but I craved more traditional options and voila Trieste appears. They offer both local flavors like potato and olives and your American pepperoni pizza. I also love their customer service! Their Tiramisu is very good- I don't like the rum flavor of traditional ones and this didn't have that. Overall great pizza. I know that Rome's specialty is more pasta like carbonara but when you don't want to go to Naples and still want pizza-Trieste will do.

Rod C.

Yelp
It's a hole in the wall but this pizza is the best!!! It's as the sign says - f@cking amazing! Get the large because you're going to want to eat a lot. Also, fun and friendly staff!
