Yelp
Trinosophes is exactly what Eastern Market needed:
1. [T] is a restaurant that serves fantastic food, with ingredients sourced straight from the market (and caters to vegetarians, vegans, and carnivores alike!)
2. [T] functions as a gallery for artists who don't receive support from the traditional gallery system (contemporary art for profit), and provides space for artists who are doing wonderful things in Detroit, but don't receive as much recognition
3. [T] is a fantastic cafe! Great espresso, pour-over coffee and tea, even if you're poor (Trinosophes is quite affordable, especially for quality)
4. [T] turns into a great venue at night, often catering to the free-jazz and experimental set. Considering how much great jazz is still in the area, there should be more venues like this.
I don't know that the other reviews, the lower-starred ones, are fair.
A. "Going there prior to official opening" is your own problem! As a regular visitor of the officially opened space, the sound at concerts (free jazz, rock and roll, electronic etc) works and is lovely. The sound guy there has been in the city for decades and knows his chops. There isn't beer, they don't have a liquor license, and there isn't a tap. This person doesn't know what they're talking about..
B. "Hunter"'s review, of 'no A/C' is invalid. Trinosophes has A/C and I spent many days there last summer, getting out of the heat. Totally invalid.
C. The cafe/venue is totally non-pretentious and lovely. I'm happy the neighborhood has something like this - something for the locals, and not necessarily catering to those who come on Saturday mornings from out of town. If you want an authentic Detroit spot for food or drinks, check it out!
