I've been getting my hair cut at Trio with Robyn since I moved to Evanston in 2005. I LOVE HER! I've never had a bad cut with her, or even a mediocre cut! She does a great job of listening to what I want, giving me her input on what will work and what won't and my hair looks fabulous every time. Robyn has done updos for me for weddings, too. I really like the atmosphere at Trio. It's not pretentious... ALL of the staff is super friendly and it feels comfortable there. Recently, I had an insane work schedule and was having a really hard time getting in for a haircut. Robyn, Jenny (shampooer) and Erika (the receptionist) actually opened up the salon an hour early for me on a Sunday! Who does that these days?! Nothing but great things to say about Robyn and Trio!

Google
I've been going to Robyn for my haircuts for 4+ years. She's the best. She always listens to what I want and always does it just like I've requested. I've even had her suggest that my idea wouldn't likely turn out quite how I wanted, which is very helpful. I relax when I'm with Robyn and we chat, but she's never over the top chatty like some other stylists I've had. When I walk out of the salon I get a million complements on my hair, every single time. Robyn does great work. I've done very dramatic changes and minor trims with Robyn and the results are always fantastic. I've moved out of state and still travel back and always book a time with Robyn when I am in town. The receptionists are also very friendly and professional and the hair washers are wonderful head massagers! Go see Robyn and you won't regret it!

Highly recommend! This was my first visit to Trio Evanston, and I am thrilled to find this salon. Very clean and comfortable, and staff were very professional. Love my new haircut and definitely will be returning to see Liz again.

Google
I had my first experience at Trio recently - had my hair color done by Philip. I am not exaggerating when I say he is the first hair colorist to capture the exact color I had in mind ever since I started coloring my hair. I am so happy to have found this gem of a salon. Thank you so much for a reassuring and perfect experience!

Google
Started looking for a place to get a haircut about a year ago after my stylist left town. A couple of consistent recommendations later, I ended up with Robyn at Trio. I have really fine and thin hair which is easy to screw up so despite the rave reviews I was a little nervous that I'd look like a chia pet. Fact is that she did a FANTASTIC job! Really thrilled with the way it turned out and the compliments I get consistently even a month after she cuts my hair. Will be a regular with Robyn and the rest of the crowd at Trio unless she decides the winter weather isn't for her anymore...even then, I'd probably fly wherever she is to get a trim! She's that good!!

Google
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Trio -- The staff is amazing and Robyn (the stylist I've been going to for years) is fantastic. I've been to her for weddings updos, regular hair cuts, and most recently I even booked my sister's bridal hair with her. I've never been anything but 100% satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend her. I also want to give my compliments to the staff -- When I was stressed out about timing and logistics for my sister's wedding, they totally took charge. They gave me realistic timing, pricing, and even called me to follow up several times. On the day of the wedding things went without a hitch. I was completely satisfied!

I just moved to Evanston after living in the city for years, and I was thrilled to find that Cliff, my former stylist from Maxine's Salon, seemed to move with me! Cliff always knows exactly what to suggest for my hair, whether it is a style or a new product, and he gives the best blow-dry hands-down! Parking is easily available right outside on the street, and the staff is warm and friendly. Overall, I highly recommend Trio Salon!

Google
My wife checked the web site for pricing, which said $53+. A particular stylist had been recommended by a friend, so my wife booked me with her. She was very sweet, and I love her work. When I went to pay the bill, I was stunned to find that it came to $103. The receptionist explained that, yes, some of the stylists there do charge $53. Mine just happened to charge almost twice that. Just for a men's cut--nothing fancy, not even blow drying. Not cool, Trio. New clients should be notified at the time of their appointments what the bill will come to.

Yelp
I was in town for a wedding and booked a last minute blow out. I was grateful they were able to fit me in, but it was legitimately the worst hair experience I've ever had. I asked for a simple blowout with loose waves. Nothing complicated. The stylist proceeded to turn my hair into a frizzy mess without putting a brush to it. Then dumped my hair in front of my face while causing the blowout "quite a puzzle". Then used a flat iron to make a series of kinks in the middle of my hair which he thought were the right waves I was looking for. I asked him to use a curling iron instead, which he didn't seem to know how to use. He ultimately turned me over to another stylist who did her best to fix his mess. It was a horrible experience.

Yelp
This is a lovely and bright salon located in downtown Evanston. There is plenty of metered parking nearby. They are taking covid precautions, and even offering outdoor haircuts. I went to Trio on the morning of my wedding and was well received by Lola, who was welcoming, patient, kind, personable, and also a SUPER talented stylist! I showed her pics of my gown and a few looks I liked and she got to work right away, producing the most beautiful bridal updo. I highly recommend Lola at Trio, especially for special events or weddings. She was sweet and helpful, taking my preferences into account and making her own professional recommendations as appropriate. I loved the outcome! And it even turned out to be more comfortable than getting hair done in a hotel room! Don't hesitate to book your next appointment with Trio, their online booking makes it easy and convenient.

Laura W.

Yelp
I've been a client here for years and really love the talent, the effort and the type of environment that trio provides. Lea and Lola are both amazing at what they do and I love the time I spend here. Very happy with my cut and color every time. So convenient also for me with parking and ease of scheduling. They are often very booked and busy but work with me to get me in at a good time. Can't recommend Lea and Lola more.

Che K.

Yelp
Mallory is fantastic. Amazing beachy waves. Make sure to book early if you are needing a Saturday appointment as she books up really quickly. This place has a very laid back vibe and parking is super easy.

Julie Ann C.

Yelp
Best haircut of my entire life! I decided to try Lea when quarantine restrictions were relaxed, but I was relieved to see that Trio staff were still masked. She is a master stylist, and I love her depth and breadth of knowledge about everything hair.

Julie T.

Yelp
I am a proud customer of Trio. Before COVID and during COVID. I believe that they acted so responsibly, shutting down when needed and opening cautiously. It really broke my heart to think about the loss of income for the staff during the shut down. I'm thrilled that Trio has re-opened. I felt totally safe when I went back for a haircut. I observed the precautions that the staff took to keep everyone safe. Look. This is an expensive proposition. The investment in disinfectants; the limited number of customers in the salon at any one time. And, of course, the loss of income for the staff during the shutdown. I TOTALLY support an increase in pricing to help recover income loss and to cover the increase in operating expenses for the extra measures that must be taken. I intend to increase the frequency of my haircuts to support this great salon.

Judith H.

Yelp
I have been getting my hair cut with Leah for over 3 years. I have short curly hair and she always gives me a great cut that lasts and I always get lots of compliments.

Emma H.

Yelp
Liz is my stylist and I'm always happy. The whole team is talented and wonderful. They have gone above and beyond with safety protocol during the pandemic, and I always feel safe.

Yelp
I found a colorist! I can finally get my hair cut and colored all in the same appointment, rather than dividing my time between two salons. I had been seeing Iwen at the downtown location, and loved her. Because of my impulsive / fickle approach to my hair, I hadn't seen her in a while and was super bummed when I'd heard she left. Iwen, wherever you are, you rocked. So I took a leap of faith and booked a color appointment w/ Jada at the Evanston location. It was my first experience with her, and I'm super impressed. My hair has been described, by many stylists, as "challenging." It's extremely porous and takes color very quickly, so I always tell a new colorist to err on the conservative side and give me something with a brown base. They almost never believe me and then my hair turns out BRIGHT red. As I'm getting older, that look is getting harder and harder to pull off. Jada not only listened but apparently took notes, because I just went back to her for a 2nd appointment and she rocked the color yet again, this time taking me to a nice copper w/out too much red. Jada's not super-chatty, which is great for me because I tend to be quiet myself. So I start out with Jada and ease into the process, and then by the time I get to Robyn I'm feeling more social. Jada does talk through what she's going to do with your hair, and I love that. This seems like something ALL colorists should do, at least until you've been with them for a while. I'm so happy I finally have a stylist and colorist in the same building!

Yelp
TRio Salon is one of the most professional salons I have been in, not to mention, customer service driven culture. The desk staff are so friendly and Phil, well Phil is an old fashioned gentleman, expert colorist and all around nice guy. My husband still sees him for color even though we do not live there anymore but when he is in town for business, he makes an appt with Phil! Rosa is a great stylist and up to date on all the new cutting techniques. She listens to what you want and delivers.

Elizabet B.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Trio. I was soooo scared to change salons due to the fact that I basically liked my old salon. It was time to change. So........here is my review. I met the owner Phillip, I found him to be a very compassionate person, who listened to what I Had to say. The end result is a work in progress to repair, let's say, an old paint job. I feel we Are on the right track to getting where I want to be. If you are looking to change hair color this Definitely is the place!,

Sheri G.

Yelp
Trio is a very comfortable, modern and unpretentious hair salon with a great staff of colorists and stylists. My dark hair looks natural, thanks to Lola!Today I scheduled an appointment with Chad for the first time and he gave me an outstanding haircut. Both Lola and Chad took the time to discuss what was important to me. I've been coming to Trio for over 15 years and recommend them highly. I always get compliments on my hair color and I'm sure that today's cut will get rave reviews. Phil runs a business where people are cared for and treated well.

Mary Kay L.

Yelp
Recently went to Trio and had my hair cut by Kathy Moore. I had gotten a silent auction item that Trio donated to my daughter's middle school which was really generous! I took whom ever I could get for a Thursday evening appoint and had Kathy Moore as my Stylist. She was simply amazing! Having many years experience, Kathy understood what I needed and never pressured me into getting more than what was in my silent auction package. The next day at work I got 5 complements on my hair cut and even got comments on Facebook on my new hairdo! I would highly recommend Kathy Moore to anyone that is looking to update their hair style and would like some great pampering!

Yelp
It seems I'm the only reviewer who's had bad luck here. Maybe it's my karma. Anyway, I didn't like it. I've been twice. The first time, I was coming off a long affair with pink hair dye and extensions. I needed all the overbleached hair taken off my head and asked for a short, choppy, punky cut. The guy who cut my hair proceeded to give me some poofy seventies thing, telling me that if he made it any shorter I wouldn't have a style. It looked fine for all of an hour before all the product he'd put in it to keep it in shape gave up the ghost. My hair is really thick and heavy and there's no point in trying to make it defy gravity. He tried. He failed. And I had to go somewhere else to have it fixed, cuz once the spray gave out it just looked stupid and wouldn't stay out of my eyes, AND there were still super dead bleached ends to deal with. Experience number two: I needed a very specific hair style for a wedding. I made an appointment *three weeks* in advance, telling them exactly what I needed done. Less than a week before the date, I get a phone call telling me they did not, in fact, have a stylist that could do what I wanted, sorry. They gave me less than a week to find someone else who could do it when they had three bloody weeks to figure out that none of their people had the skillz. So yeah, not a fan. Everyone else seems to love them to pieces. Maybe I just really didn't get lucky. But both times they failed me, Art+Science came through with the goods so that's where I go.

Paulina M.

Yelp
I had to come back to give them a break. I know I said it's expensive, but I'm starting to realize this is fairly standard these days. Plus, I just can't allow people to pass the place up just b/c ratings turned them away. Again, Chad is great. My husband told me he knows what looks good on me better than I do, and I have to agree. He's an artist, and he wears cool scarves.

Jill R.

Yelp
I did a lot of research to find a hair stylist to cut my naturally curly hair. After years of expensive & bad cuts, I'm in LOVE! Chad, at Trio Salon, in Evanston, is the BEST. The Salon is friendly, reasonably priced, no attitude, uses excellent products, & is open on Sundays. Chad cut my hair wet & dry, & took his time making sure it looked right. He's talented, on time, & very down to earth. I'm absolutely going back. ( He also once did a special blow out that lasted a week & looked hot!)

NEESH N.

Yelp
Wow so disappointed in this place! First off I walk in and the receptionist didnt really welcome me. She looked at me funny I think because I wasnt white! Then I had a haircut with Robyn. She was a really nice person but she messed up my haircut. This was my first time going short & I was really upset she was so unexperienced. Then I got my hair colored by another lady she took about 2 hours to apply it. It came out alright but the haircut was bad I didnt really care about the color!! To top it off my bill came out to 190!! For a color and cut really?! I will never be back and I dont recommend this salon at all!

Tammy S.

Yelp
I am so picky about my haircuts and have tried so many high-end salons in the city. No one gets how to cut super thick hair! They insist on thinning it out, and layering in a way that does not bring out the best in my hairstyles. I work by Trio in Evanston so I tried it and could not be more pleased. Robyn is seriously the only one who's ever given me a great haircut! She is so knowledgeable, super sweet, didn't try to sell me on a bunch of product I didn't need, and I left there feeling like a Pantene commercial. Loved her and still love my haircut! Two thumbs up!!!

Rachel H.

Yelp
I had my hair done here back in june, I feel awful about not writing a review sooner because the results were great. I had michelle do the cut and Iwen with the color. Michelle ( i looked at their talent list and didn't see her, not sure if she is still there... i hope i don't have the name wrong) gave me a cute bob that worked well with wavy/curly hair. Iwen, so much to say, first off very personable easy to talk to. Her judgement on hair color is awesome, i was going from a orange/red to a blonde for the summer and she toned it done to a great shade. she talked me out of a complete blonde and my hair came out to a strawberryish honey, loved it. i will be going back soon in a week or two to see iwen again.

Aleca M.

Yelp
I have very curly and frizzy hair but with Rosa and Phillips help I now have the most amazing silky, straight and BEAUTIFUL hair! I have tried other salon's (i live 2,000 miles away!) but will ONLY let Rosa cut my hair. Had a few brazilian blowouts in the west coast but never had the results I get from Phillip! You will love the work, the vibe the whole package at TRIO! PS. all the staff is so nice and makes you feel very welcome.

K S.

Yelp
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Trio -- The staff is amazing and Robyn (the stylist I've been going to for years) is fantastic. The difference between Robyn and other stylists I've been to (at other salons) is that she actually listens to what you want and gives you exactly that. I've been to her for weddings updos, regular hair cuts, and most recently I booked my sister's bridal hair with her. I've never been anything but 100% satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend her. They gave me realistic timing, pricing, and even called me to follow up several times. On the day of the wedding things went without a hitch. I was completely satisfied! All in all-- 5 Stars for Robyn and the Trio Staff!!

Caryn W.

Yelp
EVERYONE HERE IS FANTASTIC! I love Barbara for my color. I have long blonde hair and she does a wonderful job of making my highlights look natural. She's so good that I can go twice as long between appointment than I used to at my other salon. She's also really friendly and honest. I also saw Phillip once for bayalage and was very happy with the results. For my cut I go to Robin but have also seen Chad. I've gotten amazing cuts from both of them that have grown out beautifully. I have a hard time deciding which I prefer so maybe I'll just alternate between the two of them. When I was there for my color I had a few questions about what I should do with my cut or how to style my hair now that I needed a new no-fuss new-mom style. One of the stylists came over and gave me a lot of one on one attention and some great new styling tips, she was wonderful (I don't remember her name). The shampoo girls give great head massages and blow-out styles. Do not worry if your stylists/colorists leave the finishing up to them. You are in good hands! The front desk people are exceptional. From the moment you call they make you feel welcome and offer helpful suggestions about who would be the best fit for your budget/needs. Erica is especially personable and it's apparent that she loves her job even though she works long days mostly on her feet. My drink is always filled and there are plenty of great magazines to flip through. I am always well pampered by their professional and friendly staff. This a definitely a salon where you don't feel like just another number. They go out of their way to genuinely make you feel at home and appreciate your business. I can not say enough good things about this place. I trust that no matter who I see there (if my regular person is booked) I will leave looking great. It's also the kind of place that if you do see someone else at the salon you don't feel like you're "cheating" on your regular person. Sometimes it's good to switch things up or just that you love them all and can't just pick one. Seriously, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

Alexandrew R.

Yelp
Eric has been my stylist there the past several appointments. I am a very picky person with high expectations and he has always given me exactly what I wanted. I've been to SO many stylists before (several even at trio) and he has been the only person in 5 years to get it right. Everything from a double process of white hair to an ombre fade. Rumor has it he's been fired (actually its no rumor I called there and tried to make an appointment and was informed he's no longer with trio). I don't know who's brilliant idea that was but now I'll never be back. Which is a shame because I trekked up there from the city twice a month and spent loads of money with them. I'm even a little stung that I spent so much money with them when I could have just spent it with Eric. All in all they have good services and a great staff. However it makes me nervous that I could get used to a stylist that could be out the door by my next appointment. Those five stars really belong to Eric.

lindy s.

Yelp
Chad fixed my broken hair compliments of a previously reviewed salon... I had called and asked if they had anyone on staff who was good working with fine hair and could also fix a botched cut... she said with great certainty that Chad would be the man... they were able to get me in the very next day and Chad worked wonders... I actually look like I have more hair than when I walked in and we cut it... lol... He is talented... ! And... bonus... he also gave me this discount card... $10 off the 1st apt, $15 off the 2nd and $20 off the 3rd.... great incentive to build loyalty.

Sarah A.

Yelp
I just moved to Evanston and decided on Trio based on....I don't know ... instinct. What good luck for me! Jada colored my hair. She matched and improved my current color perfectly! Chat cut my hair. He is amazing! My overly thick hair is now tame! First time ever! I already made my next appointment with both of them. The whole staff made me feel welcome. And I got a first time visit discount. They were professional and nice, and I look great! Highly recommended

Di H.

Yelp
I just moved to the area and I was very worried about finding a new hair salon. Usually when I move to a new area I have to try five or six different places before I find one that I like. The people at Trio were extremely friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. I got my hair both dyed and cut and was very happy with the results of both. I have very thick hair that puffs out and feels very heavy. I explained this to my stylist, Chad, and he knew exactly what to do for me! My hair actually has shape now, the poofy-ness is gone and it feel light and bouncy. It looks so great that when I went to pick up my sister from her hair salon, the stylist there were complimenting me non stop! My only slight complaint is the parking. But for hair this good I am willing to deal with it!

Lora P.

Yelp
I had my first visit to Trio last night.I just wanted to start out slow with a color and blow-dry. They were great. My color was with Iwen who was very nice and did a great job matching the color I wanted. Lea did my blow-dry so I will followup with her for a haircut when I go back. When I checked out they gave me 10% off my services for being a first time customer and tons of samples for color treated hair. It wasn't stuffy, was very upbeat and the people were really nice. I will definitely be checking it out again-and it's close to home for me!

Tracy S.

Yelp
From a friend's advice, I began going to Trio several months ago -- specifically to see Rosa for a haircut. Rosa was able to help me articulate what I wanted (typically I have a difficult time in that arena). I am a very active woman and really don't have/nor want to make time for extensive styling and heavy use of products. I was super thrilled with the outcome! Rosa truly has a gift of listening closely, even when there is very little discussion. She asks the right questions to help her, and help me, in understanding my needs -- and she always works her magic! I also see Jill for color. The first time I saw her, I was more impressed than ever! Jill takes the time to ensure complete coverage, which, in my case, is necessary since my grey is very stubborn and difficult to cover completely. I was very impressed with her and how meticulous she was! The only reason I gave the review 4 stars rather than 5 stars is that the past 2 appointments I had scheduled services, I had to wait around 15 minutes for my service to begin. Like most folks, I have a tight schedule, number 1, and number 2, I put as much time in the meter as possible (2 hours), and the meter tends to expire before my services are over. On the flip-side of that, the receptionists will gladly run out and put another quarter in the meter when that happens. Regardless, I highly recommend Trio -- particularly Rosa for cut, and Jill for color!

Kellie M.

Yelp
Ladies... please hear me... if you want the most amazing freaking haircut ever... go to CLIFF at Trio. He is a master artist. I get NON STOP compliments on my hair after he cuts it. It's the perfect blend of body and soft, bouncy layers. It's easy to work with and just looks and feels so good. I am serious- you have to go to CLIFF!!!!

Ann K.

Yelp
My stylist Rosa, was 40 minutes late taking me for my appointment. I understand that happens, but as I was sitting and waiting I heard her tell her client that she wasn't rushing to get to me because I was new. When she finally got to me, I told her I simply wanted my hair trimmed. She cut way too much off and not only was it shorter than I wanted, the right side of my hair was way longer than my left side. My hair is all one length, and it is long. So a simple trim shouldn't be difficult. A simple trim cost me 2 hours and $103.00. Now I have to spend more time and more money to go somewhere else to get it fixed. I will never go to this overpriced rude place again.

Yelp
I've gone to a million salons in my life due to my UNIQUE hair. I'm Indian, but I have super long, kinky, unruly, curly hair. No...not all Indian women have that beautiful silky straight hair that extensions are made out of haha! So, I went to Robyn both times and she's an angel. My hair looked SO good. I'm talking bouncy, shiny, Victoria's Secret model hair. Plus, my layers were better than I even asked for. OH...and forgot....the first time I went to see her, I ended up donating my hair to Locks of Love. I asked her to take about 8 inches off my hair...of course, I'm super anxious and scared about how it might look! but this cause is important to me, so I figured what the heck. NO JOKE...Robyn styled my hair....I went out that night...and every single person that saw my hair commented how great it looked! I highly suggest going to Robyn!!! She's fabulous!!

B B.

Yelp
Great haircuts from Edda but she is also a great woman. I usually don't interact much with people cutting my hair, but she is such a delight. I always leave looking great and feeling inspired about my dreams.

Julie W.

Yelp
Barbara did a great job on my Brazilian blowout. It was the first time doing this process and I was so nervous - 6 weeks later, I am still LOVING it! Barbara was warm, kind and talented.

Katie M.

Yelp
So sad about Trio. New to area and need a cut. Big mistake-worst cut in years. The stylist did everything opposite of what was discussed and didn't listen at all to what I said that my hair just wouldn't do. It's been several very frustrating weeks with a weed-whacked, un-stylable, UNEVEN haircut. Yes, UNEVEN - like an inch off! Thank goodness for bobby-pins and winter. At least I've been able to claim hat-head. To top it off, not even a call from the manager. Customers beware, the stylists at Trio will cut your hair whatever way THEY wish.

Joni C.

Yelp
Edda has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now and I can't tell you how much I love her. She is a great woman to confide in, and I love my hair. She helped me grow it from very short to now a medium length. I didn't suffer the painful growing out process that I have remembered in the past.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
When it comes to hair color, owner Phil Palmeri is The Man. His approach is completely customer-oriented. He listens carefully, gives his expert opinion, and together, you decide on the best approach for you. I've been going to him for about 10 years and highly recommend him. His salon team members really go out of their way to focus on their customers and do a top-rate job.

JL B.

Yelp
I have been back to Trio several times and I have never been disappointed. Both Chad and Jada are creative do an excellent job.

Be careful to check your receipt when purchasing products. My wife stopped in to buy a $40 item and did not look at the receipt. Only later when the credit card invoice came did she notice she had been billed $190! This may have been a careless mistake on the part of the person at the counter, but it never hurts to verify the price on the receipt.

Yelp
Barbara is great with color. Chad takes WAY TOO long and is not that great with cuts. Go to the city...same prices, less time, more talent

Yelp
I just got the worst haircut of my life and it cost $85 plus tip...never again!! I think my 7 year old could have done a better job. This place is so overpriced and no talent!! Please do not make the same mistake. There are many other choices

Yelp
Great place! The stylists listen and offer up their thoughts on cuts and coloring. Had my hair cut by Robin, she is fantastic. Highly suggest giving this place a try, worth every penny.
