The 18 Best Restaurants & Bars In Puerto Vallarta

"If you want to make one big reservation and need a break from tacos and raw fish, El Trio is the place for things like artichoke soup, foie gras terrine, and a gigantic lamb rack. There are lots of small candle-lit tables, colorful glass lamps, hanging plants, and a large al fresco painting of various places in Europe. El Trio is a hidden classic—even from the outside, it looks like just another beautiful downtown building, but it's really one of the coziest places to have dinner in all of PV." - debora mestre

Bread and butter to melt your soul, interesting dishes, nice vibe. Fish well prepared, the beet salad is a favorite as is the soups, but the lamb dish was grizzly and the sides were not hot. Skip the chocolate cherry cake, house made but didn’t make my cheat eat list for calories. I need to run them off at the gym!

Google
phenomenon- only true classy restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. quible - no small mineral water, tap water ugh ... had the filet mignon w lobster speacial - awesome. all fresh made. must go.

Google
Excellent service, wonderful food. The restaurant week menu was varied with really good options. The shrimp ravioli soup was hot, soothing with real depth of flavor. The two butter options one with peanuts and peppers and the other plain but slightly tart, were very complimentary to the breads. The red snapper with eggplant and potatoes was outstanding and a very large portion followed by the apple tart dessert. The apple tart could have been served a bit warmer. Overall great experience and will return to try other options for restaurant week.

Google
Wonderful restaurant. Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, highest quality service. Kind waiters, delicious food. I visited some nice restaurants in PV, but this was by far the best. It’s a hidden gem. On top of that, a 2 minute walk from the gorgeous Guadalupe Cathedral in Old Town, so if you’re English speaking, you can go to Saturday evening Mass, and then head right to a wonderful dinner.

Steven Card

Google
Service was good and atmosphere was nice. Food was above average. Friend got the lobster special and the sauce was to die for. Carpaccio also very good.

Andres Behnsen

Google
Absolutely amazing restaurant! All the food was to die for. We ordered the Duck, Beef and salmon as main’s and beetroot salad and Foie gras as entrees. All of it was marvelous, an absolute MUST in Puerto Vallarta!

Google
I have heard that Trio is an excellent restaurant in PV and finally had the pleasure to dine there a few nights ago. The servers and support team were all very attentive and gave great suggestions for different dishes to try. And, wow, was I impressed with the food quality and flavors. It’s definitely a restaurant not to be missed if your looking for a nice dining experience in Puerto Vallarta. I am looking forward to returning soon.

Google
Such a beautiful restaurant located right at the heart of Old Puerto Vallarta. We were seated ny the balcony over looking the street. It added to the ambiance of our experience. Food was delicious to match. Fusion of Italian and Mexican. We had the chefs menu which included a 4 course meal topped off woth dessert. High recommend for anyone visiting to reserve at least 1 night of fine dining.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended to us by a staff-member at our hotel. We are so glad we went. It ended up being our best meal of the trip! Its about a block or two from the Guadalupe church. Quiet street. We took a cab from our hotel (Grand Miramar) that cost us 100 pesos. If you go early (they open at 6) you wont need a reservation. We had one and were given our choice of seating. We sat on the upstairs balcony. It was pretty. Very attentive servers. Everything is made in house. We started with drinks-rose and a mixed drink. Very nice wine list. We both had bowls of the cream of artichoke soup as our appetizer. It was a large bowl and was delicious! The accompanying bread basket was the best bread we had while in mexico! Three diff kinds all made in house. A pot of fresh butter and a pot with a mixed cheese spread came with it. I tried not to fill up on bread but it was very hard to resist! Our entrees were wide paparedelle with garlic shrimp and tomatoes and vegetable risotto. We ordered half sizes and they were quite adequate. The food was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Yelp
11MAY2024 We first ate here in 2019 but I did not write a review. This trip we ate here twice in 2 nights. It is that good. Our best meals in Puerto Vallarta. This is must "dine here". First evening. Thomas Sattler Gruner Veltliner $980. Very good. Annic Pinot Noir $1140. Good. Carpaccio - delicious, large portion. Poblano chile relleno. Wow! Pollo. 1/2 order. Fabulous. Perfectly cooked. great sauce. Plum compote - ice cream surrounded by fruit and cream. Tons of flavor Café. Liquor 43. Mexican brandy. Second evening. Domain du Moulin Camus melon bourgogne. $955. Amaru cabernet 4800. Acidic, needed aeration. Foie gras - very good. Light, toast, salad and decoration. Pappardelle with shrimp. 1/2 portion. Shrimp cooked perfectly, tomatoes, sauce, rough cut pasta. Steak. Over cooked slightly and just a tad tough. Cut in the shape of a tenderloin, but not. Veggies were very good. Black forest cake. Lots of flavors. Café, brandy. + perfect service from a knowledgeable and attentive staff + 1/2 portions for some items +/- music - American, soft + hefty flatware + cloth napkins $4141 for dinner for 2, inc propina $3905 the 2nd night.

Yelp
The fillet steak was cooked to the correct temp. The bread plate was a nice variety of different breads and crackers. The wine we chose paired well with the dinner. Service was top notch. Table for 2 we got was in the back away from the street.

Yelp
Amazing food and fantastic service by Marco and the rest of the staff. Fresh seafood and creative menu.

Yelp
Excellent food & service. Charming decor. Two of us had the chili lime rubbed chicken and two of us had the pappardelle with shrimp, Beet salad with goat cheese. All outstanding! The chicken was so juicy and tasty with just the right amount of kick for me, as I don't care for very spicy food. I used the word succulent to describe it! Definitely will return!

Randy H.

Yelp
The food, drinks atmosphere and service is impeccable. I started with the mezquilita which was limey and quite strong. I then had the seafood soup which was in a light broth with very fresh chunk of seafood. A delish dish. I finished with fish of the day which was perhaps the best dish I had in PV. Flakey topped with a crunchy salad in a light sauce which highlighted the fish without detracting at all from the fish. I couldn't stop raving. The chef here is clearly a master. The service was top notch. What a find!
google avatar

Shawn W.

Yelp
Absolutely one of the best Italian restaurants not only in PV but also better than a lot of the Italian spots in the states. The service is incredible. The food is absolutely delicious. The music is soothing and perfect for an evening meal. You honestly can try any dish here and you'll never be able to go wrong. Everything is fresh to order and cooked to perfection. They have a great wine list which is mainly by the bottle so be sure to go with a friend or two to split the bottle with.

Yelp
This is a must stop. Amazing food at reasonable prices for very fine food. Love the atmosphere. If you've been here before they remember you. When the wait was too long and we were walk ins without reservation they would bring margaritas until we were seated. I wish I knew their table numbers to reserve and request a certain table. Was there with 3 others. We all ordered appetizers and entrees. We were so impressed our our choices for starters we started sampling each others. The chef came out concerned we weren't happy with our choices and the relief came on his face when we said everything is amazing.

Yelp
Where to start? The fish, beyond perfect - utterly a mind slight. I had spent a number of days in PVR and was tired of American Mexican food - but I kept stumbling into places that could only do that. Trio IS NOT ANY OF that! This place is wonderful. A gem. On a side street with only character around and nearby. Two well dressed waiters welcomed us in, and then executed as if I were back in Nice France. The chili roasted red snapper filet...a dish I will dream about, every day, if I were only able to control my dreams. I will miss Trio and their execution and extraordinary chef. Look

Susan M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I had the steak and 2 others had the Sea Bass. Excellent! Oysters were very good. House salad fed 2.

Yelp
I came here before in 2020. This place still rocks, and this time I have pics to prove it. It no longer ranks as the most expensive place I visited in PV, but it is still ranks among the best places to eat. I'm a sucker for spinach and ricotta ravioli! And what can I say other than this is one hell of a meal! Not sure what else to tell ya but it's awesomeness on steroids! If I visit again, and I think I will, like Arnold..."I'll be back". I hope refers give this a try. It's great Italian and Sea Food in Mexico! I don't recall how I first herd about it back in 2020 but it must have been Yelp! Thanks fellow Yelpers!

Yelp
We had a party of 4 on Jan. 30th. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we were given a beautiful table upstairs. We were the only guests at that time. towards the end of the dinner at 8:00 the room filled up and the noise level increase. We all enjoyed appetizers, dinner and dessert. No one had a bad meal! Beets, mushroom salad and soup were fresh and shared by all. For dinner I had the Lobster pasta special and enjoyed a large piece of grilled lobster. The braised meat and lamb chops were cooked perfectly. Then dessert we enjoyed the Carrot Chocolate cake that was more of an American Lava cake and the Apple Strudel was crispy and ice cream perfect. We look forward to coming back here for another wonderful dinner! Worth every penny!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with attentive staff and romantic ambiance. The breads and spreads were delicious not to mention my artichoke soup which was heavenly. My ravioli was delicious but I fear I ate too much bread beforehand so I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Everything tasted fresh and it was overall a wonderful evening.

Yelp
We went here for the first time on the recommendation of local friends. This amazing place did not disappoint! The food was absolutely amazing and the service was impeccable, with wonderful staff! We were there in December and will go back anytime I'm in Puerto Vallarta. I highly recommend this for an upscale and relaxed evening!

Yelp
OK, I think I found my favourite restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. It's small and intimate and has an amazing service and incredible food. It's located on a side street, so there is no view but watching the people walk by the street, but that doesn't seem to matter as the food is spectacular. I started with Fois Gras, which was beautifully presented, that I took the photo after I ate half of it. Sorry, but it looked so good and I was quite hungry. Reed had a nicely presented green salad. What are the things that I love about the restaurant if you could have your choice of a small portion or a larger portion of the same entrée. Since we normally share an entrée it made it possible for us to have two different ones and savor the experience. My selection with homemade ricotta and spinach ravioli in a sauce it was delectable. Reed had the Seabass which he said was some of the best Seabass he's ever had. I tasted it and I had to agree. For dessert there were many choices but we decided to try the Mezcal sorbet and it was a very subtle strange taste, but it was wonderfully and beautifully presented. The service was very friendly, funny and quite professional. They were there when you needed them and gone when you didn't. I did have to bring home about half of each one of my dishes, but I'm looking forward to eating them today. There are so many wonderful places to eat in Puerto Vallarta, but this little out of the way, elegantly simple restaurant is at the top of my list now!

Yelp
Easily one of the best meals I've ever eaten in Puerto Vallarta. They even outshined some of my favorite places like the Iguana or La Capella! I can't believe this place hasn't popped on my radar before. Great service, ambiance, and delicious food. Do not miss out on this place.

Courtney M.

Yelp
This place was phenomenal. The fish dish was far the best we've had in Puerto Vallarta. It's a more upscale place that is tucked away in a busier area of town. May be better to cab or Uber there if you dressed up!

Ally K.

Yelp
Best food I've had in a really long time!! So much flavor in every bite. Service was excellent. Cocktails were amazing. Ambiance was perfect. Would recommend to everyone I know.

Yelp
I was recommended this restaurant from a friend at the condo we were staying at. Came here for dinner with a group of friends, the atmosphere has a cute Italian vibe. This stuff was incredible with five star service, making sure your every need was met, while assisting with amazing wine choices an helping to detail the menu according. I had enjoyed my appetizer of the grilled oysters that were screaming good, I was debating on a second order. My main dish was a exquisite prawn pasta with flavors that just made your mind blown. I concluded my wonderful meal with a light crème brûlée that finished delightful. I was very impressed with this restaurant and look forward to coming back on my next vacation.

Yelp
This has to be my absolute favorite place to eat in Puerto Vallarta. Had dinner here last night and was absolutely amazed at how delicious the food was. Not only was the restaurant charming, service great, but the food was top notch. Started off with the mouth watering tomato soup. So flavorful and delicious. Then we had a lobster tail on top of perfectly prepared pasta and vegetables. Then the main course was a Filet with caramelized onion. Then we finished off the meal with crazy good mango crepes, cheese cake and a warm chocolate cake with ice cream. The chef hand picked the red wine pairing and it was perfect. I drank too much. Had to leave a review because I was so impressed! Enjoy and thank me later!

Yelp
A little off the beaten boardwalk path but worth the visit. The service is attentive and informative. A sizable wine list for the size of the restaurant. The waiter thought the Mexican wines were the best so be careful about asking for help. Went with a Malbec which was surprisingly solid for US$40. We started with a salad (meh) and the calamari in a red broth. Fresh, tasty and well seasoned. They have soufflé specials so you have to try them - right? We shared the lobster soufflé. A reminder for you east coasters about spiny lobsters from the pacific (and Caribbean) - the tail meat is softer and smaller than the ones from Maine. So it might surprise you at first but you should get over it. It was tasty. The downer was crunching on a couple pieces of sand. Yea my scallop fear relived. The fresh red snapper was as advertised. I would get that again.

Yelp
FOOD/DRINK: Great! Wide variety of options, and there's lots of vegetarian choices available. The vegetable risotto was so well-flavored, perfectly cooked, and had a hearty amount of fresh asparagus. The smaller size is just right if you order an appetizer and dessert, otherwise I'd go for the larger size. My boyfriend got the chicken, which was tender and moist per his report. The chocolate carrot molten cake with ice cream for dessert was a fantastic finish. The only thing we didn't love was the salad, though more so since it was heavily dressed (ask for dressing on the side). AMBIANCE: Such a cute spot. Has a romantic and cozy vibe. There's three upstairs outdoor seatings on a narrow patio, which are great for date nights. Otherwise, two floors with ample tables of varying sizes. SERVICE: There were lots of reservations available the night before. Service was fantastic. Attentive. The food took a little longer to come out, though they told us that would be an issue, which I appreciated. Above average pricing for Mexico, though still cheap overall compared to American prices. $60 for 2 drinks, salad, two entrees, and dessert.

Yelp
Service was amazing! Everyone was friendly and food was so delicious!! I would definitely go back if I return to Puerto Vallarta!

Yelp
First time here on my most recent trip but certainly wont be my last. Excellent service, wine and food with an intimate setting. The evening went smoothly from start to finish and have nothing negative to say. This place is legit...JUST GO EXPERIENCE FOR YOURSELF....you won't regret it.

Yelp
Excellent food, Excellent service, Excellent ambience, excellent evvvvvvvery thing, just EXCELLENT!

Yelp
Unpleasant experience at this restaurant last week. The waiter, Jose Louis Valera, had a really bad attitude. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant. Too many other good dining options in Vallarta to waste money on this type of service.

Jay N.

Yelp
Amazing Resy arbor with fantastic man. We has a table for ten which did not disappoint I highly recommend this gem

Michael H.

Yelp
Wonderful dining experience. The service is outstanding and the food is superb. David, our server, was attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted or needed in a timely manner.

Yelp
After battling the rain we finally made it to this little slice of heaven in downtown PV. Trio only had their downstairs dining room open for service because of the slower time of season, but plenty of servers waiting on your every move. The interiors were elegant and clean....just a real homey feel. Their bar service was wonderful and the drinks were tasty. It was our 50/51st margarita of the trip and they were amongst our favorites. Their food is full of flavor and attention to detail is top notch. I only wish the rack of lamb was charred a bit more and had a more robust game flavor but it was pretty mild. Red snapper was to die for and to top it all off we had a nice cake that was prepared for my birthday celebration.
google avatar

Daria L.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at Trio! The restaurant is beautiful and food is delicious. Our server Diego was very friendly and caring. We followed the bartender's recommendation and ordered passion fruit martinis which were surprisingly amazing. I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Stewart R.

Yelp
I highly recommend this Restaurant. Nit only do I think it's the best in Vallarta, I think it's our favorite restaurant in the world. I supply products to the entire Restaurant industry in NYC , so I know great food. We go their to have the Sea Bass, prepared like no other . Served over mashed potatoes, in. Brown sauce with red grapes. One of my favorite dishes, can't get this in NYC. I order the Shrimp over fresh pappardelle in tomato sauce as a half order, or sometimes the fresh Ravioli as an app . Also had this week the beef tenderloin . Great service, homemade butter and spreads for breads, great wine list, not over priced. The best service, three waiters working together.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
We came Early without a reservation and luckily the dinner crowd had not yet arrived. The calamari was amazing, artichoke soup my new favorite soup and the red snapper fabulous. We got the larger portions of the meals and they were filling. No room for dessert. The drinks we're made with fresh juices. Highly recommended to all of my friends

robin v.

Yelp
The Chef's Menu was a four-course extravaganza, starting with sweetbreads, followed by squid ink spaghetti with scallops and calamari, crowned by lamb. Then came desserts. The waiters were helpful, friendly and attentive from start to finish. The atmosphere of this hidden gem was old-world charm only blocks from the Malencon. We half-expected to see Hemingway at one of the many private tables. Of course, Elizabeth Taylor's house was nearby. Outstanding experience over all. Very romantic, so dress for success.
google avatar

Mary A.

Yelp
The best meal I had in the city and at a reasonable price. We celebrated our last night in PV by treating ourselves to dinner and we left pretty content. The service was good too.
google avatar

Kim V.

Yelp
Highly recommended! Trio is off the beaten path and the interior is so beautiful. The staff is very friendly and attentive... and gave great recommendations on what to eat. I was there on a Saturday night and there was live music that made for nice ambiance. The bartender was a MASTER at making and recommending delicious drinks to go with the different courses.
google avatar

Tracie B.

Yelp
4.5 stars Definitely a more traditional upscale restaurant. For some reason, after so many years vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, we had never made it too Trio. (So many good restaurants, so little time...) The food at Trio is exceptional. Well prepared and presented. As my husband and I like to try different options without stuffing ourselves it's so nice that restaurants in PV are happy to let patrons share courses. In the case of our visit to Trio we shared the Foie Gras Terrine, the Pappardelle with Garlic Shrimp, Tomatoes and Basil (1/2 order) and the Grilled Rack of Lamb with ragout of eggplant peppers, zucchini and mint sauce. Foie Gras Terrine - excellent foie gras, served with butter lettuce and a late harvest jelly. The foie gras delicious spread on soft toast, or with the basket of fresh baked bread and crackers. Very rich, so I'm glad that we shared. Pappardelle with Garlic Shrimp - loved this pasta dish! Perfectly al dente very wide pappardelle with flavorful shrimp and lots of roasted garlic, tomatoes and olive oil. Sharing a half order was just the right amount as a second course to this epic meal. Grilled Rack of Lamb - more rare and medium rare but still very tender. Well seasoned and very flavorful. The accompanied veggie ragout stood up well to the heaviness of the lamb. We literally chewed the meat off of the bones. Following the meal we shared a light dessert of various fresh fruits (including blue berries, which are rare in Mexico). Wine - decent wine list as well as a separate recommend wines list with some reasonable options. Given that we were there during shoulder season, the restaurant was not crowded. We made reservations but didn't need them. It almost felt like there was a server per patron and at one point I notice all of the waiters lined up in front of the bar, looking for something to do. Clearly, the full staff would prefer to be busy. The atmosphere is upscale with lots of flowers and local art. Cloth napkins and table runners. This is a great place for a romantic dinner or just a celebration of good food. We will be back.

Tim T.

Yelp
Our large party had dinner here and it was delicious. There were so many great dishes. The tortellini soup, the seafood pastas were big hits! The carrot chocolate cake was the best dessert! A small quaint place. Definitely worth a visit.

Robin V.

Yelp
We happened to be staying up the road from this gem and decided to google it when we saw it, boy are we glad we did! The service was five star! Attentive, friendly, helpful. Could not ask for more! The food was also fantastic! One person in our group said it was the best thing she had eaten this year! That was the shrimp pasta fyi. The rib eye and beef medallions were also raved about. The crusty bread up front was awesome and the cream cheese, peanut, chipotle spread was both interesting and great. Our waiter, Michele, was fantastic. He fixed us up a sweet little take out package for our cat and answered all our questions. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Amazing service excellent food wonderful atmosphere creative and delicious food one of the best in Vallarta Mexico
google avatar

Yelp
Really really really good. Exquisite, the decoration it's rustic and very elegant at the same time. Amazing service. Food was just extremely exquisite. I ordered the artichoke soup, and I can't wait to have it again.
google avatar

Janet G.

Yelp
This classy restaurant, located in downtown Puerto Vallarta, is one of my favorites! The best things are the ambiance - quaint and upscale; the service - very professional, accommodating, attentive and friendly waiters; and the food - superb flavors and quality. We also love the four-course fixed price menu. Highly recommend - it does not disappoint!
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
Couldn't have asked for a better dining experience! We took the advise of some yelp recommendations and tried the sea bass. I love sea bass , but this was exceptionally good.
google avatar

Yakal G.

Yelp
My wife and I came to Puerto Vallarta on vacation and our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food is some of the best I have ever had. We have traveled to many countries and food is always one of the key components. This restaurant has some of the best food we have ever had. Italy was at the top of our list for food until we came here. This will be our go to spot every time we travel to Puerto Vallarta.
google avatar

Danielle W.

Yelp
Excellent food and wine selection. Really enjoyed our dinners and under $100 total for our meal with wine!
google avatar

Ivan H.

Yelp
Really nice of them to let me in, even though I had a tank top on. Dinner was delicious (limo de bufallo) and dessert (carrot-chocolate cake) was also great. Service is exemplary. No regrets.
google avatar

Kathy R.

Yelp
Highly recommend, Manuel is fantistico with service. The decor is authentic. The food is Mediterranean and absolutely fantastic. If you come to Puerto Vallarta you must try Trio. The dress is casual but the decor and service is high class. The staff are very accommodating and super friendly. I can't wait to come back and bring friends.
google avatar

Danny F.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time here and the food was amazing. Service was great and definitely highly recommended for a nice dinner. Their chefs tasting was also very reasonably priced and definitely showcased the skills.
google avatar

Edwina P.

Yelp
I'm not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, since we have never had a bad meal at Trio in all our years of coming to PV. We ate there again this past week. Ordered a nice bottle of white wine and enjoyed some piping hot bread fresh from the oven while we contemplated our dinner selection. We started with the beef carpaccio - outstanding. Decided on the catch of the day - sea bass - which was terrific. Debated on the sea bass on the menu - I've had it before - and if you order it you won't regret it. The red snapper is also delicious. Don't believe the reviews - trust someone who has been dining at Trio for over six years now. Go and enjoy!

Yelp
This is one of the more unique restaurants in a city filled with quality culinary talents. The blends of flavors and balance of contrast are expertly balance on each dish I enjoyed every bite!
