Harsh interaction experienced at Triumph Coffee on April 18th, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. Despite having just purchased a latte, I was rushed out the door because I was eating a cup of soup. I don't drink coffee on an empty stomach, and Triumph's food didn't appeal to me at the moment. The way this person handled the situation was crude and unprofessional.
One possibility was to note that I had a large number of items on hand and offer to help me take the drink outside. Another wonderful alternative was to offer to make a fresh replacement when I returned. In any event, anything other than what was done and in a courteous, not condescending manner, would've been the appropriate thing to do.
As newer customers, my partner and I had previously made multiple purchases in a single visit and wanted to do so again on this occasion. We'll skip the jazz night that we were going to try. Unfortunately, after wasting 15 minutes getting here, I had to quickly reconsider why I came and whether it was worthwhile. I walked away since the environment was so unwelcoming. Thankfully, my partner, who was meeting me after work, hadn't gone too far and could come pick me up. Instead, we chose Houndstooth Coffee since we knew it would have a friendlier, more pleasant atmosphere, and it did.
There's no reason I should've been put on the spot in that manner when there were more polite solutions. It's bad when you compliment someone's hair and they not only don't hear you, but also point dismissively at the water station to get you out of their hair. I guess I should've seen it coming, but, if you're this busy and having a bad day (which is understandable), consider that that making things worse doesn't lighten the load. I wished that person a better day than they were having. Online feedback suggests that this isn't just one person's bad day, but rather a company culture issue that leads to employee unhappiness; take care of your people, and they'll take care of you.
Anyways, what an avoidable moment in today. This is no longer a space I wish to be in or support. I'll continue to support other local specialty coffee shops, as well as Rex's Seafood and Market. There are better options, and if you're searching for a shop near Dallas, I fully recommend visiting Full City Rooster! Such places are becoming increasingly rare. They close earlier in the day, but the quality, civility, and meaningful conversations are unparalleled. LDU is a different favorite for on-the-go. They are also lively and uplifting.
