12 Best Indian Restaurants in Charlotte | Eater Carolinas

"In the back of this Indian supermarket grocery chain is a counter-serve kitchen and small dining area, with surprisingly tasty offerings to quickly satisfy your tastebuds for breakfast dosas and butter chicken. Don’t forget to grab a few cake slices from the front dessert case as you head out." - Shindy Chen

Visited Triveni Supermarket during a trip to Charlotte, and it’s a decent stop for Indian groceries. The store is well-stocked with fresh vegetables like okra and green beans, alongside a solid selection of spices, lentils, and halal meats, all at reasonable prices for a specialty market. The fresh chapatis from the in-house bakery were a highlight—soft and authentic, great for a quick meal. Outside, a vendor offered sugarcane juice and tender coconut water, which were refreshing. The weekend crowd was a drawback. The place was busy, and the checkout process was disorganized, with three counters but two separate lines, leading to a 15-minute wait. The staff was polite but seemed stretched thin, so visiting on a weekday might be a better bet to avoid the chaos. As for the food counter, we decided to try a few items and we got the medhu vada, egg puffs, and samosa chaat. The medhu vada was crispy outside and soft inside, just how I like it, though it could’ve been a bit warmer. The egg puffs were flaky and flavorful. The samosa chaat was tangy and spicy. Overall, the food tasted good, but it wasn’t perfect—probably a 3.5/5 for me. For the grocery experience, I’d give it a 4/5, but the food counter brings it down slightly to a 3.5/5. Averaging it out, Triveni gets a solid 4/5. It’s a reliable spot for Indian groceries and a quick bite, especially if you’re after fresh juices or chapatis, but plan your visit to avoid peak hours. Parking was also a but packed on the weekend.

We ordered kothu porotta, veg noodles, chicken legs, chat, paneer and onion pakora. The kothu parotta was soggy and had no taste. Then the paneer was okay but the onions tasted old. Next the chicken legs were average. The only thing that was good was onion pakora and veg noodles. The veg noodles was beyond spicy and kids couldn’t even touch it. So many green chilis.Spend $60 waste. More expensive than most places.

I especially appreciated how clearly everything is labeled, making shopping quick and easy. The prices are very reasonable, and their Friday to Sunday sales offer some truly amazing deals that make the value even better. I am originally from Virginia and I have been to the Triveni in South Riding, Virginia and I visited the Concord, NC Triveni recently and it very well matched up to my expectations and the billing was very good over there. Even when there was a rush/long wait time they were very hard working, efficient, and welcoming. The bakery was also very nice when I visited, I enjoyed each of the pastries I ordered which were Black forest Pastry and the Red Velvet Pastry. I had a very nice experience when I went to the Concord, NC Triveni.

⚠️ Honest Feedback — Please Be Aware I recently visited this store and was quite disappointed with both the food and the customer experience. The snacks were overly oily and lacked flavor, and I would not recommend trying them. In addition, I encountered a pricing discrepancy with a 10lb Sujatha Gold Atta bag. The shelf tag displayed $13.99, but the cashier charged $15.99. When I questioned it, the cashier insisted the higher price was correct. After showing a photo of the tag, they admitted it had not been updated. Another Sujatha bag was marked $11.99, yet scanned as $13.99. When I escalated the issue to the manager, I was told that “prices change every morning due to tariffs” and that the system updates before shelf tags are replaced. This explanation does not seem fair to customers. Prices displayed on the shelves should accurately reflect what is charged at checkout. It is disappointing to see outdated price tags and a lack of accountability.

I was really disappointed with my recent visit. The food quality was not up to expectations — several dishes lacked freshness and the flavors felt dull. On top of that, the overall cleanliness of the restaurant needs serious improvement. The tables, floors, and even the serving area didn’t look properly maintained, which made the dining experience uncomfortable. I hope the management pays attention to these issues, because the place has potential, but right now it really needs improvement in both food quality and hygiene.
