Trolley Barn Fermentory has a great vibe—spacious, lively, and perfect for a casual hangout. The selection of drinks is solid, especially the in-house brews, which were smooth and well-balanced. I loved the variety of food options from different vendors; everything I tried was flavorful and fresh. The atmosphere is laid-back but energetic, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It's a great spot to chill with friends, grab a drink, and try something new. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu and catch some of their live events

Stopped by this restaurant for a weekday lunch and really enjoyed the experience. Parking was easy during the week, though I can imagine it might get a bit tight on the weekends with all the nearby retail traffic. The food was fantastic! Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I had the Salmon Gyro Bowl—it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was modern and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy good company. Definitely worth a visit—I’d happily recommend it!

Such a clean and welcoming ambiance! I really appreciate that they offer a separate vegetarian menu - a thoughtful touch. The noodles and Trolley Barn Trio Dip were absolutely amazing. Will definitely be back!

Great stop while tour in Charlotte. If you have a large 3/4 or 1 ton pickup, street parking may be best. Food and beer were good. You can get a flight. Outdoor seating is available

Went here after Front Porch Sunday. The service was great. The Ruben was made with house smoke pastrami. Very good. Beer selection is huge. Fun place. I will be back

Aleisha with Offline - This spot was PHENOMENAL! I love getting dishes that aren’t common and have a twist. I had the brisket fried rice and tacos, everything was a 12/10. My server was awesome as well. I loved that there was ample parking nearby. Check them out.

The ambiance and bar are super nice space wise. You have plenty of room and the bartenders are attentive. Would be 5 stars but the menu is lacking on price vs taste and amount. I got the Cuban sliders and they are three tiny tiny Hawaiian rolls at best, flavor would have been excellent except the taste of the grill press was overbearing. I may just be a Cuban snob but these have such potential to be way better because the ingredients are good.

Google
Stephanie with Offline - we stumbled on this place by accident after the original spot we went to closed early. it was for the better because the food was amazing and we probably wouldn’t have chosen to come here. the service was great, the food, chill vibes and atmosphere. the menu had so many delicious options to choose from. I will definitely return to be able to explore more options. They have a keto friendly bread option for those who want to do low carb high protein, I was impressed. They also have gluten free options. Vinny was an awesome server that thoroughly explained the options, and made us want to buy everything on the menu. His suggestions were top tier which is one of the reasons we will return.

Yelp
A fun place to stop by for a drink. Large 500+ person restaurant and a large bar. We order the NA beer and a glass of wine. The bartender was telling us that all of the beers are local. Stop by for a drink before dinner!

Yelp
Great food, solid beer, but unfortunately, we had terrible service. We went for an early dinner on Saturday (5:00) and it was pretty dead. We had to ask twice for our waters, and only one beer came to our table (out of 4) . After a reminder, our beverages came and we ordered. Then our orders were incorrect (as in ordered a burger, got a quesadilla). After that was fixed, our server vanished. The food we finally got was great, and I highly recommend the buffalo chicken quesadilla, but would have loved another trolley gose to wash it down. Super cool spot alongside the light rail, and gets a lot of foot traffic, I just wish we had better service.

Yelp
Great Little stop for lunch while walking the Rail Trail. The neighborhood is cute- lots to explore. Service was great. I didn't order anything to drink so I can't comment on that but I really enjoyed the meal. Duck Fat Chicken Wings-juicy, slide-off-the-bone chicken that's perfectly coated in their dry rub. The hot honey was a nice add to the rub. I REALLY loved the house-made Citra-hopped pickles- I could easily eat those every single day. Side Poblano Caesar Salad- fresh lettuce and toppings! Interesting (in a good way) dressing! Great side for the wings

Yelp
Trolley Barn Fermentory is so cute--definitely the kind of spot you'd want to hit for a date night or to catch up with the girls over drinks. The ambience is cozy and trendy, and the cocktails are the highlight. I had the blueberry Hugo spritz and it was amazing--light, flavorful, and honestly one of the better cocktails I've had in a while. The food was okay--not bad, just not super memorable. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow, and they ended up bringing me the wrong bowl. To their credit, they did comp my meal, which I appreciated, but it still threw off the flow of the experience a bit. If you're going for the drinks and the vibe, it's worth checking out. Just maybe don't go when you're starving or in a rush.

Yelp
My first time checking this spot out and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I met up with some friends for a girls hang day on a Saturday and was happy this place wasn't overly packed or wild. It is South End after all. I love how big the space is inside with the two levels and windows. They have real plants too, that's always a plus. I ordered a pineapple juicy jay at the bar that was super yum! We later moved to a high top table since more friends were joining us. Our server was nice, I think she was newer but she did a great job! I ordered the steak salad (can't recall the actual name) and the buttermilk beer biscuits. These were REALLY good! The bread came out so warm and soft. It was delicious but a smidge too salty. I still enjoyed them and my salad was so fresh and yummy! I'd venture back here in the future.

Yelp
Mrs. K. and I headed here after seeing a video somewhere. It's a superior location in Atherton Mill along the Blue Line and on a weekend, definitely consider taking the light rail and walking a couple of blocks from East/West Station. The parking is a major challenge but it is free parking if you find a spot. Yes, this is a former barn for Charlotte's defunct trolley. The rails are still in the floor and the place is literally a big trolley barn with huge garage doors. It's a massive space with a mezzanine that is available for private parties. The beer tanks are visible and the bar looks great and the place is absolutely loud and boisterous but a friendly feel. We were seated immediately and a waitress came by with water moments later. Orders placed and then our drinks arrived. An "experimental" Pilsner for me was excellent. A mocktail for Mrs. K. was also very good. A starter of their bread rolls was fabulous and reasonably priced at $6 since it came with both beer cheese and pimento cheese for spreading. Lunch only a couple of minutes later. The Spiced Shrimp sandwich for Mrs. K. was decently loaded with spicy shrimp and a pineapple slaw on a toasted baguette. The Philly cheesesteak grilled cheese for me was delicious. Missing? Both need some chips or something on the side. The beer was great and the food was tasty. And it was definitely not inexpensive. $75 with tip for two entrees, a small starter and two drinks. Glad we tried it. We might come back for drinks only and to try their pretzel (which was not on the menu?). [Review 184 of 2025 - 4091 in North Carolina - 23748 overall]

Yelp
This was my first time here . I walked in on a Sunday and was seated within 5 min . We opted to sit outside. Such a beautiful day !! The patio is dog friendly and very spacious. I ordered a Hugo spritz which was made perfectly. For my food I had the trolley barn dip trio . I wasn't a fan. Next time I'll try something else

Yelp
We stopped in for brunch after walking around @frontporchsundays and had a great first visit. We sat outside with our pup. It was a chilly Dec 1st and they did not have heaters but they offered a clean blanket. Honestly the blanket was for our pup because the cement was freezing cold (it was in the 40s) and she has short fur. Any WAYYYY...We started off with the biscuits starter. I am not a biscuit girl but these were delicious!! The best biscuit I've ever had and they were about 5" diameter, you got your money worth with these. My favorite of the jams was like a fruit curd but I really enjoyed the sweet/spicy jam as well. Next up, I had the veggie bowl and my husband had the brisket hash. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and it came out FAST. (Thankfully we arrived right before the rush.) The only negative was that when our server brought our waters, he saw there was something floating in it and took it away. I watched him dump the water and refill the same glass with water. A new glass would have been nice.

Yelp
Consistently good food in a large space in the heart of south end. I especially love their brunch menu. Occasionally, the service is slow and it's hard to flag your server down.
google avatar

Kalie L.

Yelp
I've been here a few times due to the great location and I love the vibe inside. Sadly, the food is just always very average to me. Today I decided to try their brunch and got the Nashville Hot Chicken biscuit with a side of breakfast potatoes. The biscuit was super oily. The chicken patty itself was fine and had a nice heat to it. The potatoes were pretty bland and their ketchup is house made and had a strange taste. Luckily their brunch menu isn't too expensive. The one menu item I do love is the giant pretzel. Whenever I come back I'll definitely be sticking to the pretzel and beer.

David G.

Yelp
Important update! The pretzels are gone! This is devastating. Still a fantastic atmosphere with great beers. Lack or a fryer hurts however, and now with no pretzels, it's getting tough

Maxx K.

Yelp
Great food and beer, however, they took the best thing off the menu...please bring back the duck (or brisket) fried rice!
google avatar

Yelp
Good location on the Rail Trail. Good people watching if you sit outside! Free parking at Atherton Mills (parking lot and parking deck). Outside patio and indoor seating too. Service can be a little slow but hey, this is the south. Get used to it. You can't go wrong with the pretzel! (Wednesday is half priced wine I think)
google avatar

Karina T.

Yelp
I've been here twice. I like that there's indoor and outdoor seating. You are allowed to bring your dog for outdoor seatings which I love and they have water for the dogs. I ordered the steak salad. The steak was a bit dry and the salad was super sour. It wasn't bad though but didn't love it. I also had the pretzel which I loved! I cannot remember what the exact order I got with the eggs but it was delicious! Service was great, waiter was helpful.

Yelp
I really like this spot! I try to avoid south end for dinners because it's always so packed but this past weekend we luckily found parking and got seated right away. Now that the weather is cooling down, it was so nice sitting on the patio. Our server was great and very attentive. We started with the pretzel and it was SO good. We didn't love the queso or mustard though. I also always get the chicken Caesar salad every time I go and it's always delicious! One of my favorites. All around really cool spot and lots of options for everyone.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Never disappoints. Great space too, there is all kinds of seating whether you want to be outside, at the bar, on the second floor, etc. the food menu has many options although they don't have anything coffee wise besides drip. For brunch highly recommend the biscuits! For lunch/ dinner the BBLT is delicious.

Yelp
I was in the area with my friend and we decided to have lunch here. I'm so happy we chose this place because we were really satisfied with our food. I was a bit surprised that they weren't at all busy for the lunch rush, but even better for us! The ambiance gives industrial vibes with exposed beer kegs, but very nice and clean. The menu is simple and straight to the point, which I appreciate. I ordered the seasonal sangria, which was absolutely delicious! 100/10 For my lunch I ordered the BBQ platter, which came with chicken breast pieces, pork chunks, and BBQ ribs with Mac n cheese as my side. I really was surprised that the Mac n cheese was as good as it was. It was really flavorful, cheesy, and just simply yummy! The meats were okay, nothing to ride home about. The chicken was my least favorite, it was a bit bland and thin. There were pickles on the tray as well. Those were some of the best pickles I've ever had! They could sell those in a jar.. I'd def come back to try more cocktails and other items on the menu. My friends brisket grilled cheese sandwich looked so delicious, and she said it was. So I'm going to try that on my next trip!

Yelp
Philly cheesesteak was so good, I had to take a couple bites out of it before I took the picture! Great place and service. They have plenty of options and it was hard to choose. More reviews from Trolley Barn soon to come!
google avatar

Genevieve V.

Yelp
That pretzel was so good, we went back 4 days later to get the pretzel again. This time, we also tried one of the canned tins, which was pretty darn good too if you're into that kind of thing. The berst part? The bartender arranged for me to take one of the pretzels home so I could have this awesome treat at home! What great service.

Yelp
I love this place, I've been three times now. Their brunch is my favorite in town. They have the best steak & eggs. I've always had great servers that are attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is typical of a brewery, not much to write about but I enjoy sitting at the high top tables or outside when it's warm enough. I've told a lot of my friends about this place and encourage you to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Second time at Trolley Barn did not disappoint!! First time for brunch here, sat right away inside (outside was full because it was so nice out). The hostess was the sweetest woman ever. Server was nice too. My brisket hash and eggs was really yummy! Had a nice spice kick to it. I wish there was a little more brisket in it, majority of bites didn't have any. My friend loved her steak huevos rancheros bowl! Half of the bowl was cabbage, which was interesting. Definitely too much cabbage, but she still loved the taste!

Yelp
A large restaurant with an open concept. Lots of tables and a nice outdoor area. We were sat strait away and greeted by our pleasant server quickly. Each dish was done so well. Lots of vibrant flavors. The Cuban with the marinated onions was great. The brisket slider fell apart and melted in your mouth. The Gyro had plenty of great flavor and saucy. I would recommend coming with a large group since they have the room or event out for a date!

Yelp
Fun, lively place with plenty of seating inside and outside. Good views on either the outside first floor patio or second floor balcony. Love the outdoor lights, creates a cool ambiance. The service, food and drinks were all good. We had the beer bread appetizer. Who can say know to warm bread (actually 4 rolls) with two spreads, Yum! I had the brisket burger and my wife had the smoked brisket tacos, both were very delicious, however my medium requested burger was a tad over done so I would suggest medium rare next time. The handhelds do not come with anything , so a side is definitely required. I tried the Mac & Cheese with Benton's ham. It was very tasty but lacked the Ham, I only saw maybe two slivers in there so I would suggest the restaurant perhaps top with a sprinkle of more ham like a garnish, so I wouldn't feel like I was cheated out of any. We did try a dessert, a chocolate cake with gelato and a few sliced strawberries (served in a cast iron pan), which was quite tasty, however, I think a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce would of contributed to the cake not tasting so dry. While it was busy, there was plenty of seating (inside) around 7:00pm, but when the weather warms up I bet for sure the place would be packed. All of the seats outside were taken (both on patio and balcony) while we were there, so we ate inside which was still really nice. Definitely a fun place to go and socialize as there was no really loud music playing which provided for a great conversation experience. Hope you will give this place a try, I know we will be going back again soon.

Yelp
We visited here on a Saturday early evening. First of all excellent service. From the front of the house to our table. Our server gave great recommendations and checked on us often. The drinks menu looked amazing it was hard to choose. We ended up with the margarita on their specialty cocktail menu (can't recall the name). We weren't hungry so got two appetizers to share: pretzel and grilled cheese with brisket. Both were decent items. Next time we'll try their main dishes. I think what was nice is the outdoor atmosphere. They had live music out near on the patio which was nice. It's in s great area Southend with lots of other resties and shops. I do recommend this place.
google avatar

Corliss H.

Yelp
This fun small chain has a cool vibe. Good service, the menu isn't huge so I'd advise checking before you go to be sure there is something on it that you're feeling that day. Split a brisket grilled cheese with my adult daughter, plenty of food for both of us. And their sourdough is as good as homemade. 2 people got burgers which were reported as good. Lots of beer options but since I don't drink I can't rate them. My son in law likes micro brews and he liked his beer choices. South End has a lot of restaurants and this is a decent choice.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
We started with the queso served with naan and crispy flatbreads. I picked the cheesesteak which was awesome and the hubs tried the burger (this was just okay). The fingerlings we shared but wouldn't order again. The potatoes seemed like they were from the day before, super dry and they didn't come with a sauce or anything. They brew in house so of course I had to try a beer; the sour was refreshing and delicious. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive at Al the right times but didn't hover. The building is beautiful and the tables seem appropriately spaced. There were only two stalls in the bathroom, hopefully there are more somewhere else?? Check out my IG @wonderingcook

Yelp
A fantastic little spot to enjoy food and good beer with the whole family. Very welcoming and inviting and the service is fantastic. A very warm, inviting atmosphere and interior. great family fun even if you wanna bring along a little ones or even an infant. In addition really and really more of a bonus, the food is top notch for a brewery. It's actually more I would say restaurant quality and unique in its own way. For example, I had a Philly cheese steak grilled cheese sandwich last time which was fantastic and very high-quality and the beer is also very well done too, and I think they even brew their own here. The food consists of high quality specialty smoked and grilled meat sandwiches and we Will definitely be back. What a great time.

Holly D.

Yelp
Started with a drink with a rotten looking lime and it really needed a lot of limes, the drink was not good! The Cuban slider was horrible choice of mushy/ dry bread it was suppose to have mustard and the sad look of the sandwich was better than it tasted SO DISAPPOINTED the atmosphere, the food, and the horrible service and way too many kids for a brewery
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The service and drinks are amazing. The food options are always delicious and keep you coming back for more!! My faves are the pork belly, brisket fried rice, and chicken wings.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
First off the place has a great vibe about it and I could see it really being a fun place with a crowd. My waiter was great and helpful. Now on to the food. My, Welcome to Trolley, beer was so good and the collared greens were amazing as well. The only thing that got me was the hot chicken sandwich. Flavor was great but the size of the pc of chicken on the sandwich was far too small. I felt like it was way too thin. My preference would have been a whole chicken thigh instead of what I got.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch and it was pretty good. Nashville chicken biscuit and egg is the way to go. Order it less the cheese as the flavor takes away from the Nashville chicken.
google avatar

Lilly P.

Yelp
Super cute vibes for Christmas!! They have lots of GF options for those allergic to wheat! I got the Philly Cheesesteak with a gluten free hoagie roll and it was really good! The portions are really decent and the drinks were good too! Service was quick and efficient! Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Lizzie W.

Yelp
We love this spot! The drinks are always great. I had an espresso tini and my wife had a mocktail. The food never misses and the bartenders are always friendly. This is a great space!

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere. Amazingly talented staff. Met the love of my life at Trolley Barn for our first date.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, the wait staff was very attentive. Spacious restaurant with many food options. Brunch standout - the biscuits. Make sure you order the spicy honey jelly - game changer.

Yelp
This place was on my list to try for so long and I really put off trying it for far too long. I finally scheduled a happy hour here to try it. My husband and I shared the Smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese and the Duck Fried Rice. Both were fantastic. If I had to pick, I'd say the fried rice was my favorite, but you really can't go wrong. I've always loved the food at all of Legion's locations. I think this place is super underrated in the Charlotte food scene. They have a ton of great outdoor space too. There's a large front patio. We sat on the second floor balcony. If you haven't been, you should check it out!

Paul S.

Yelp
This is not are first time at the Trolly Barn, always a good experience with the service and food. As a matter their coffee was exceptional. Unfortunately this time (08/03/25), everything was horrible. Three young ladies greeting by the reception area, not one said hello or acknowledged us.Finally one glanced at us, we asked for a table. She needed to ask the other lady where we should be placed. Mind you the place was empty. Corner table and waited and waited. The only person that was doing any work whatsoever was the young gentleman clearing the tables. We asked him and soon someone came over to ask if we wanted anything. Sure, how about some coffee. 2 lukewarm cups were delivered. I asked for milk. 2 thimbles of milk were delivered. Apparently sugar is a request also. A manager or someone did ask us if we needed anything, gave us the option for water. What a nice gesture. More waiting, no other approach. We decided that a restaurant rather than a waiting room would suit us better.

Yelp
I had a visitor in town who likes beer, so I took him to Trolley so he could try the beer flight. It was midday so not a lot of foot traffic, open seating at the bar. Things went left when the bartender inquired who would be consuming the beer that my visitor (male) ordered. I personally do not drink beer, but when I have visitors, this is one of the MANY places in NC I'll take them too. My visitor explained I may take a sip or two but the flight would be for him. The bartender asks to see MY identification, but didn't ask for my visitor's identification. So I asked back "....So,....you just want MY ID?" Bartender: "yes, if you'll be having some of the beer as well". Me: "oh I see, so you don't want his, just mine got it". Bartender: "Well if I could see both of yours that'd be great". Too late buster. If you card ONE person, you need to card everyone. That's not rocket science. And I would call any establishment out whomever does that to me. It's unprofessional, it comes across biased, and it's simply not good customer service. I'm never bringing anyone to this establishment ever again. There's so many other places to patronize for beer. It's North Carolina.

Yelp
Food - omg the flavor. Also very bariatric friendly. Puuuure protien. Service - attentive quick and very friendly Ambiance - Danny the doodle loved it.

Yelp
This place is super cute and the food is better than you expect! I think my only small gripes are that they don't have fountain Coke, some people prefer bottled and that's great for them lol. I also thought the seats were really uncomfortable. The kimchi dip that is in the trio appetizer is UNREAL!
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Pretzel is so delicious. Decent drink/beer selection and location is large and open with the old trolley track running through the Fermentory and the tanks gives it an interesting vibe. Fun place to meet up in Southend.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome experience with great food! Stopped by last week and had the Nashville Hot Biscuit. It was huge and delicious! Great seasoning and really tasty. My son said the same about his breakfast tacos. We both enjoyed their beers (wish I could remember the names). Restaurant is pretty cool. Had Saturday college football on and noise level was very tolerable. Our server was very nice and attentive, making our visit even better. We'll be back!
google avatar

Elissa M.

Yelp
Went here with my family for a late brunch and WOW! It was so great. Everyone enjoyed what they got (birria quesadilla, biscuits and gravy, avocado toast). The server was amazing and took my food allergies very seriously. They assured me they could handle my nut and seafood allergies with no problem. Loved this whole place and would absolutely come back.

Clark C.

Yelp
We planned my wife's birthday party here and had the best experience. Gabby, the Event Manager, was great to work with and her recommendations were spot on for ordering. Our group loved the service, food and drinks. I would highly recommend this space to anyone looking to plan an event and will be recommending to everyone. Thank you Trolley Barn and the team for creating a memory my wife and I will always look back on.

Yelp
Great food, the perfect ambiance for a date night. They have a large bar selection. The sweet potatoes wedges were amazing so good I forgot to take a picture! The service from Vivian outstanding. This was my 2nd time at Trolley Barn Fermentory and I would say it was a nice dinner. I will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant!!!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in South End!! Literally have never had anything I didn't love and everyone I go with always loves their food too. Most recently (July '23) had the charcuterie board, pretzel, and duck fried rice. The entrees always have unique flavors. The charcuterie board was enough for an app for 5 people and the large pretzel is HUGE. Also had the seasonal sangria - DELISH! Such a chill but fun place for a meal in Atherton Mills. On July 4, there was next to no one in there and we were seated right away. Definitely recommend for a good meal!!
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time coming to this restaurant with a coworker. The food was good. I had the steak tacos with power tortillas and the street corn which was good. If did have a little kick. If you do zero spicy make sure you tell them. I also got a margarita which was good as well. My friend is vegan for the months. She bought a few side options which she said was good. She got quinoa but sweet potato fries and broccoli. I would come back to this place and recommend it to friends.

Yelp
I was checking out Front Porch Sundays with a couple of friends & we wanted to grab a bite to eat. Trolley Barn for the win! What a lovely spot. The outdoor seating was such a great choice, as my pup Cooper got to join us. We had an amazing server (wish I could recall her name!). She was fun, friendly, & efficient. The menu was way too inviting, from the cocktails to food. I went with the Trolley Spritz & the fish taco bowl. I was eyeing the cheesesteak though! We didn't wait long for our food to arrive. I was quite pleased with the spritz cocktail, very refreshing! The taco bowl (salmon) was delicious, I could have probably ate another bowl. :D It's in a great spot to people watch & you're right by the light rail line.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat -- The vibe is chill with optimal places to sit, I rarely ever have to wait for a table. On a nice night the patio is awesome and right in the midst of south end rail trail. The service is always great and the food is so YUMMY. The Caesar salad is by far my fav and go to!
