I suppose in Seattle you have to chose sides. Are you a Trophy or a Cupcake Royale fan?
Call me wishy washy, but hey, to me its all good when we are talking about a cupcake.
I can get into the nuances of wine and heck, I'd might even try to stick my neck out on the Parisian macaroon debate (Pierre Herme over Lauduree) but Seattle cupcakes?!? They are always sweet, always decadent and (don't gasp, but...) not too terribly complicated.
Good and decadent eating. Nope, you are not going to find me complaining about a cupcake.
Trophy seems to do a lot of things well: interesting flavors, darned pretty cupcakes and some fancy schmancy branding and packaging.
If cupcakes had a personality, Cupcake Royale may to be the punk, tatooed and sweeter sister to the older sister Trophy Cupcake, who is a bit type-A, dresses to impress, shops at U-Village and perhaps drives a Land Rover.
Either way you swing, you can count on the Salted Carmel, Chocolate Stout, Lavender Cupcake, Vanilla and Chocolate, Red Velvet, at either venue to make you smile, even grin from ear to ear!
When in Rome, eat gelato! When in Paris, eat a macaron! And when in Seattle, grab a cupcake (either kind.) They are darned good!
