The Best Wine Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"This Uptown staple has a bit of romantic charm — sandwiched between storefronts on busy Hennepin Avenue, it almost looks like a portal to a hip French quartier on the other side of the world. The energy is decidedly laid-back, the wine menu eclectic and approachable. Order by the glass or by the bottle, and stop by on weekends for live music and poetry readings." - Justine Jones

I love that Uptown has a true wine bar. Troubadour has a great selection of varietals, makers and rotating options. Flights are a great way to experiment with new options. Vibes are casual with live music and approachable charcuterie that’s not trying too hard. Perfect spot for date night, pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap.

Google
Amazing local find! Construction is probably hindering them from having a packed house these days, they are worth the hassle to visit! We had the small board & 2 glasses of excellent wine. Live music was 10/10. Highly recommended for date night. Great weeknight deals.

Google
Stumbled on this gem of a place while out last night. Small and quaint, but a really cool vibe. The live music was a guy playing acoustic guitar and rocking it out. Lots of requests were made and he did his best to play them all and did great. Wine flights were an excellent assortment and the charcuterie board was put together very well both flavor wise and aesthetically. Went for a drink and ended up staying for the rest of the night! Would definitely be a regular if we lived in Minneapolis

Google
Cozy, eclectic, and absolutely perfect! The owner was very kind and created a special red wine flight for us to share. The charcuterie board was delicious. Loved the ambiance, variety of seating, and cozy vibe. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a glass of wine and somewhere to unwind, hang out, listen to live music, or play scrabble.

Google
Amazing AMAZING place!! The atmosphere is so cozy and romantic. I emailed the manager a request for my partners 30th birthday and they went above and beyond. So thankful for them and the experience they provided. So thank you Brian and staff. Please make sure you check out the live music at 7 as well!!! 💕

Google
Super cozy wine bar that offers some affordable, tasty wines! You can’t go wrong here.

Google
Amazing event by Troubadour wine bar and yelp. It was fun tasting the wines and snack of cheese and crackers. Love to keep visiting this place. Photo bus was crazy and loved to take pics with it. Loved the location and they had a lovely ambiance. The wine was good. They have a huge list of wine and beer menu. They even have a small food menu. Amazing place to visit

Eddie Mendoza

Google
The best wine bar in the cities! It’s perfect for a date or night out with friends. The live music adds to the ambiance, and it’s a cozy inside with spacious seating. The wine flights can be split for two or have your own. You can also customize your own flight. It’s located plenty of restaurants too for a stop before or after dinner. The owner, Brian, is super passionate about the place and provides the best service. I recommend this to anyone looking for a new spot or date night.

Yelp
By far one of the most unique spots in the city. They have great musical talent most evenings in a small, intimate, and relaxed setting. As well as a very large and diverse wine list.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, good service, cozy, good music, and nice wine selection. Added to a very nice evening (though of course the company was also top notch but that's not in scope of this review). AMBIANCE: nice and cozy. The live music was nice. The furniture and decor was also elegant. WINE: it's hard to give a full review here because we only tried one bottle-- a Sauvignon blanc. But it was a good choice. If all the bottles are as good as this, then I truly do appreciate the choices of wine here.
google avatar

Marcin C.

Yelp
Wonderful ambiance, super knowledgeable and friendly staff. It is our happy place ( we found out our offer on a house got accepted while sipping some wine at Troubadour). One thing I would maybe change is as much as live music is amazing and always fun I don't think such a small joint needs amplifying system and speakers. It makes it a bit hard to talk sometimes.

Yelp
Love this spot! Cozy, nice ambiance, and the food is delicious. Love the wine and love that there's a selection of beer for the ones that aren't huge wine lovers.

Yelp
I had been here a few years ago and just found it so cute and quaint but honestly didn't remember it existed. I went back this week for a young professionals event and remembered how much I loved it and that I need to go back asap and make this a regular spot for me. I had one of their red wines and LOVED it. So good and really a positive experience. The staff is so nice and the owner is just one of the coolest guys I have ever met. It is on hennepin so parking is tight but that is all of uptown so wasn't a surprise. I ended up finding parking right across the street. It was pay parking but super convenient. They have gender neutral bathrooms and some light snacks as well. Overall, I will be coming back and recommending this spot to friends.

Yelp
Can I give 4.5 stars? I loved everything about this place except the prices. I know, I know cost of everything is going up, but I was hoping for a happy hour or wine flight or something yo get to taste more. Ok now that I write this, maybe it's not a pricing problem it's just that I want to drink too much?? Atmosphere - spot on with live music Wine selection and food -great Two tips: 1) street parking on 28th is super easy 2) make a reservation

Jordin S.

Yelp
Great service and comped some Prosecco with our check to celebrate my husband and my move to Minneapolis! Chill vibes with games, couches, and folks having wine flights after work.
google avatar

Yelp
Best!!!! Best vibes, staff, and wine. All around 10/10 and a must visit. Super intimate vibes but such a fun atmosphere, not too serious. Truly love this spot and the wine is great

Yelp
Ah, Troubadour! I can't say enough wonderful things about this establishment. If you're looking for a nice date spot without a meal this is the place. We ordered a bottle of wine and a charcuterie board to share between three girls. The board is pricey, but thoughtfully curated and had high end selections. Make sure to visit on a night with live music! They post frequently about their entertainment lineup on social media and also include the schedule online.
google avatar

Yelp
I was visiting town and came across it and on a Friday night it was a great place to be. It was cozy, live music and a great selection of wine! It's a small bar but I loved it! Brian was a great pleasure!

Yelp
Such a great place! The live music and service was wonderful. The wine was great and the cheesecake was also amazing. Great vibes and overall experience.

Yelp
Troubadour Wine Bar is my safe haven. The cozy atmosphere and live music make the place feel like home. Luke is the most amazing host!! The food is 10/10 and we would recommend every single thing on the menu. Has become a Thursday must. Troubadour is the best!!! We love Troubadour!

Yelp
I've walked by so many times, and finally had a reason to go when a friend of a friend was singing on Tuesday night(s). This place is so cute and cozy and quaint--you walk in an automatically feel cozy, welcomed, and part of a charming group of chill weekday live music-listeners. The place is small but comfortable with couches, good chairs, and string lights. There was just one guy serving the place, and it honestly made it feel so welcoming and neighborhood-y. He was very efficient and kind, and knew a lot about the wine offerings. The reason this place isn't a 5 for me is because it's a bit out of my price range to visit on a regular basis. It's good wine, yes, and of course they have to mark it up to be able to stay up and running. But at average $13 a glass or $55 a bottle, it's for a little bit older crowd than us early 20s cheap girls. However, the waiter was very kind to tell us about the off-menu specials they do--when they rotate the menu, the ones that go off the menu are offered at $40 a bottle. We split between 5 girls and each paid $8, which is what you'd pay at any other place. PLUS it was really good vino. The decor is cozy, like a coffee shop but for fall and winter weeknights when you need a glass of wine. They have tons of books around about anything from astronomy to happiness to artifacts from India. They also have a bunch of records and even Cards Against Humanity. Troubadour has live music every single night, which ROCKS. I highly recommend Lora who sings on Tuesday nights. The group that sings before her are a blast too. Good for coming to unwind and relax!

Yelp
I've wanted to try this wine bar for the past year. It is delightful! I came on a Thursday evening and had an 8pm reservation, but it was just me so I snagged a spot at the bar. There wasn't an empty table, so I'd recommend one if you're coming on a Thursday-Sat. The wine was delightful, although I'm not sold that some of the pours should be $13-18-I think it's a bit overpriced. It was $65 (before tax/tip) for 3 glasses & a small cheese plate. But the owner/manager is really nice and I got amazing service solo at the bar. The performer that night was good, I think he's there every Thursday. I also got a small cheese plate that was tasty! Overall I'd be back but maybe to split a bottle of a solid instead, may be more worth the cost?

Yelp
This is the kind of place I wish was in our neighborhood. Casual and unpretentious. Music every night. Great food (although a little expansion of the menu would help). It was fun. We had some wine and the large charcuterie plate. Crackers, cheese, meat and pickles. We ordered the baguette separately and it was amazing. Sliced and buttery with garlic it was a perfect compliment to the meats and cheese. We lucked out and parked at a meter a few feet away.

Tammy M.

Yelp
Great music! Friendly staff- remember to make reservations on the weekends as they are quite busy!
google avatar

Iris H.

Yelp
Literally my fav place to go for wine. They have music every night they're open and I have never been disappointed. Most nights the music has a soul/R&B vibe and isn't overpowering so you can still chat with company. They have a grrrreeeaaat selection of apps and foods to pair with the wine. And the folks were great about switching out some of the cheese for almonds since my friend is lactose intolerant. They are great about suggesting wine pairings and providing tastings till you find the perfect one. This is really my go-to when I want to be out but not downtown or at a bro bar in uptown.

Yelp
UPDATE 9/2020: Hours are Wed-Sat 5pm-11pm. I like this place. Troubador has an unpretentious vibe and casual atmosphere. It's in a small space with a couch and cozy chairs in the back and smaller 2-4 seater tables in the front--makes for a more intimate feel. We sat at the bar. Shared the small charcuterie board and each had 2 glasses of wine. They have a decent menu of small bites and even serve a few local beers on tap for those that get dragged to a wine bar against their will. Our server was great--he was unintrusive yet still attentive. Great for date night or ladies night as well
google avatar

Hannah T.

Yelp
This place is such a treat!! We sat on the couch (which next time I'll ask for a table since it was difficult to talk with a group of 4). The ambiance is amazing! Great wine too.
google avatar

Yelp
I would leave more stars if I could! What a great place and a great time. We were looking for a fun way to celebrate a friend's significant birthday and decided to look for a venue for a wine tasting. Having this intimate setting and being able to bring in a few elements to personalize the space for the Birthday Girl was fantastic. Logan made things even more special for us. He changed the color of the under bar lighting to match our theme and asked what kind of music the Birthday Girl liked. Those touches made things even more special for us. So now let's talk about the wine. We are a group with taste that run the gamut from simple to daring and then throw a vegan in for good measure. They were able to create charcuterie boards to accommodate everyone's needs and found wines that we all enjoyed. For real though, I can't say enough about how it was Logan that tipped the scales from this being a fun/good experience to a truly fabulous and great one.

Yelp
Cute little spot in Uptown! Definitely make a reservation if you can-- the place was packed on a Sunday evening when I came in. Great ambience for a date night, and wonderful service. Delightfully surprised by the live music as well!
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
The thing I love most about Troubadour is the atmosphere. It is very cozy, has couches, card games (eg Cards Against Humanity), and live music in the evenings which is usually quite good. Friendly waitstaff. The wines seem to run $12-14 and are a bit pricey for how the quality. Many of the wines could use a good decanting or aren't well balanced. I keep coming back, though, because I love the music and atmosphere. Good date spot.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
Such a cozy and quaint place! Perfect for a girls night out, romantic date, or an excuse to kill a tasty bottle of wine! You walk in and are embraced with warmth, laughter, and friendly staff. There is live music that creates the calming, romantic, and cozy atmosphere. The wine is delicious, but a little spendy. But, what do you expect for such a gem in Uptown? I also highly recommend any of their charcuterie boards, they truly make them with love and they pair perfectly with their wine. If you are looking for a relaxing and fun atmosphere, this is your place. I highly recommend to anyone!
google avatar

Maddie B.

Yelp
Troubadour is the best place for wine in Minneapolis, hands down! The atmosphere is cozy, but they also have a lovely patio for summer nights. They have live music every night, which adds to the awesome atmosphere. Their cheese and meat plates are unique and delicious. Most importantly, you can come to troubadour for any occasion. You can show up last minute with a friend to catch up, dress up for a date night, or come solo, sit at the bar, and learn about the wines from the Troubadour staff. The place is unpretentious, always a good time, and has a glass of wine to make anyone happy!!
google avatar

Carlo F.

Yelp
Visited a friend in Minneapolis and he brought me here as he really enjoyed this wine bar. It's very cozy and intimate, and the lighting is very dim. They also have live music, but we came on a Friday night, when there wasn't anyone set to perform. They have a good assortment of wines, beers and ciders. Would recommend visiting here for drinks.
google avatar

Audrey S.

Yelp
Seemed a little overpriced for what we received. I'd return again, but only for a special occasion or promotional event
google avatar

Linh N.

Yelp
This place is perfect for a date. It has a cozy and intimate surrounding with live music, cheese, and wine, all the element you would need for a romantic night out. The staff here were super friendly and helpful; they recommend us different kind of wine based on our taste, which we really appreciated. The place is a tad small so live music that night ended up being a tad loud but you can still talk over it. I'm not a wine expert so I am not sure if the wine here are as special as they advertise it but I liked what I ordered. The only downside? This place is a tad pricey. The cheapest wine is $12 per glass, so be prepared to spend some money if you decide to come!
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
Honestly one of my favorite places in the city! Live music, great wine, cozy atmosphere! The only down fall is that it's pretty small so the seating is limited.
google avatar

Teya V.

Yelp
Warm and inviting atmosphere with great hand crafted woodwork and artful attention to detail. Nightly live music provides a space for new and up and coming musicians to display their art in an intimate and serenade environment. Great wine selections, but a bit pricey when you want more than one glass. The service is very friendly and the music has always been top notch
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
Only not giving it 5 stars because of the old building musty smell. But everything else about this place is fantastic. They have live music, a great wine selection, and comfortable chairs and a couch. Service is also really awesome. Will definitely be frequenting often!
google avatar

Amintha R.

Yelp
It had the feeling of a coffee shop I inhabited in the 90's. low couches and chairs in a low lit environment, someone playing music not too loud in a corner. It's a great place to catch up with an interesting glass of wine and a good conversation. The staff person I encountered seemed knowledgeable and made some good recommendations. I would go back.
google avatar

Siobhan W.

Yelp
Service was negligent and slow. We waited 20+ minutes for our waiter to check back on us to get our first order of drinks and food. He was wandering around and chatting with friends, so we asked another one of the bros working there if he would take our order, and we finally got an order in after our long wait. Our kid waiter finally checks back with us about 30 minutes later after we had already ordered to see if we wanted to order, uh, what? Why bother dude? He was a pleasant enough young man but obviously does not have much talent at simple waitressing. Appeared as though he was there just hanging out rather than working a job. Wine and cheese plate was decent but nothing special. Hard to screw those 2 things up. On another note, the ugly-ass art at the entryway and column is very disturbing. The place would actually be charming if they got their artwork game on point, but obviously very bad taste in art here. Also really bad taste in music! The style of music here does not match the intimacy of the place -the live music kind of reminded me of Hootie & The Blowfish, lol. Good lord! Talk about lame music! We're unlikely to return even though we live incredibly close-by. The crowd is a little bit too young(think twenty year olds), the service too unprofessional, art & music a little too terrible, and nothing special enough about the wine or food to come back for. Too bad!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Hey there's wine here, and it was good. But Emily Dussault performed and it was better than the wine. K bye.
google avatar

Aaliyah H.

Yelp
This is true my a hidden gem in Minneapolis. The wine selection is pretty amazing. And the charcuterie board was soooooo good.
google avatar

Chad K.

Yelp
Came for the drag show on Tuesday evenings and so glad we did! I'm from CA and grew up in a wine-growing region and these guys have a great selection of wines. The charcuterie board comes in 3 sizes too which was perfect because we were starving! Lovely atmosphere, great scene, might be a bit too tiny for a drag show though. :P
google avatar

Christine G.

Yelp
We came in here hoping for an Italian dinner, but was a little disappointed when we learned it was only wine and sandwiches. Our disappointment quickly turned around when we decided to stay for a glass (or 2) of wine and a charcuterie board. The meats and cheese were divine and the wine was delectable. The bartender was friendly and entertaining as well. The ambiance is eclectic and dark, the way a wine bar should be. Absolutely will be coming back, I'm so happy we accidentally found this spot!
google avatar

Aeriel A.

Yelp
Everything I would want in a place. Amazing live music every night, a great wine list, chocolate truffle dessert, and a cheese board!? Doesn't get better than this for a date night!
google avatar

Luci B.

Yelp
This wine bar is my absolute favorite spot in the city. The staff is so awesome and live music is always top notch. This is a great place for amazing wine and a romantic date night or girls night out. The cozy atmosphere can't not be compared! Definitely try this place out :)
google avatar

Lori L.

Yelp
I loved this quaint bar. Service was great. Great choices of wine and delicious food optionsVery talented musicians playing a variety of music. I'll be making this a regular stop!
google avatar

Joy D.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere, fantastic beer on tap, reasonably priced, exquisite music each night, friendly bar tender, and comfortable couch with games in the corner. This place was a hidden gem and I plan on returning very soon.
google avatar

Puneet N.

Yelp
Nice & chilled out place to hangout; may be not a best place to chat due to loud music. Live music was fun though. Good selection of wine and main server was great. Seating is comfortable and they have a nice couch/sofa to lounge and relax. Didn't try food so can't comment upon. Nice atmosphere!
google avatar

Brooke M.

Yelp
great, neighborhood wine bar. cozy (very cozy, very small) but not the most comfortable. There is a small couch in back and two comfy armchairs but the rest of the seating is in the drafty front room, with creaky aging wood floors and wooden chairs. Definitely creates a certain ambiance but if true comfort and sinking into an overstuffed chair while sipping your chablis is of importance to you - look elsewhere. great selection of interesting wines available by the glass and the bottle. I was able to taste several wines before arriving on my choices for the evening. They offer a cheese and meat plate, which is nice. It's nothing special and don't expect too much from this. Would love to see them partner up with lowry hill meats, red table, or any of the local cheese producers to really knock their snack selection out of the park. Troubador usually has live music in the evenings, which adds to its flare. Expect college aged kids and musician hobbyists sharing their talents with you. a great stop before or after dinner in uptown, or if you're a neighborhood dweller this is a wonderful option for an early HH glass of juicy, jammy red wine on these colder winters nights.
google avatar

Vesela G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Absolutely wonderful service. We caught some live music performance which enhanced our experience. They had a Spanish themed selection of wine, cheese and meats. It was absolutely amazing with the Rioja wine and the Tempranillo rosado.
google avatar

L C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and the people are always friendly and helpful with recommendations. I love the ambiance - it's a cozy, eclectic, and casual atmosphere.
google avatar

Sue B.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick glass of wine and ended up staying 90 minutes! Great wine, great cheese plate and almond/olive tapas. Wonderful music. Staff was great. Prices reasonable. Great ambience and decor. Highly recommend this intimate spot over the loud, "look at me" scene at other Uptown bats.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
I want my apartment to look like troubadour. It is so cute! Went on a Wednesday and did the bottle of wine and cheese pairing with my partner. The gentlemen working was so friendly, informative, and not judgey about my lack of sophisticated wine knowledge. There was also live music when I was there which was fantastic. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Lena E.

Yelp
It is a lovely place with authentic Uptown atmosphere - welcoming and relaxed. We stopped for a glass of rosé on a very hot summer day. Got to taste a couple of rosé options before we made up our mind. I love that WINE is Troubadour's main focus! Having said that I must add that selection of cheeses and chocolates they offer is excellent.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
This is truly a hidden gem right in the heart of uptown. The ambiance can't be beat - very intimate, warm & inviting. With a fabulous selection of wines and local artists performing every night you're always guaranteed to have an amazing evening. The staff is so friendly and Phineas, the owner is simply awesome. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Minneapolis!!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
No bueno folks. If your stuck up... then yes. But if your not then no. Is the ambience nice. Yes. The sevice on the other hand is no bueno. I waited 30 minutes - 30 minutes to order. I received my $17 glass of wine. Was it good yes. But was it worth it? Not. At all. I can buy this for $26 from wine enthusiast!!!! I never. I mean never do I not leave a tip. Did I not leave one tonight? Yes. Would I have chose. To leave the second server who arrived later a tip? Yes. I would have left her $$ if I had cash, but alas I never have cash. Music was great. Friday night, "lame happy hour" one server! Wtf?! Never never never will I go back. I'd recommend it to my worst enemy. Of all the places in uptown to go this is not the one. I could of ate oysters and drank and be merry around the corner. Or spent $100 on my nails at #littleluxuiriesnail any had a better night. Just my honest two cents. Then a friend said she paid the bills, thought it was settled which, it wasn't. Went back to pay and the drama began. All in all recommend having more than 1 server. Why this place is packed I don't understand. I think people just want to be seen. Me? I'd rather enjoy a full bottle for $30 at home than a ~$15 glass there!

Yelp
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I haven't been to a place in a while that I've liked so much! Everything was phenomenal! We went on a Tuesday night and got a prime spot on the couch where we could drink our wine and watch the live music at the same time. The music was out of this world. The duo who played from 630 to 830 is remarkable. Great sound, perfect for the space, and I would like to go see them every Tuesday night. The man who followed them started at nine was also awesome! We stayed to watch for a little bit, but that's getting past my bedtime. We were able to order a couple glasses of red wine and also some dessert wine. They had a little bit of ice wine left which was probably the best ice wine of my life! Nick was most attentive yet not overbearing. He was extremely knowledgeable about the wines, made delicious looking and tasting charcuterie and dessert plates and solid recommendations. I can't wait to go back!!
