It often takes a lot for me to get agitated at a restaurant, the service and food industries are not kind to their employees. Unfortunately, this is first time that I got so agitated, I had to post about it.
A group of 8 of us, 6 adults and 2 children gathered for a dinner after not having seen each other for over half a decade, having just reunited to attend another friends wedding, and mourn the passing of another on the same day. That's not entirely necessary to the story here, but it gives context that emotions were already high and the focus was more on the conversation and being together than the food, but that can only last so long when faced with poor service.
Two people were missing place settings, to which the server was notified several times about and nothing was done until I eventually got up after 40 minutes to take them from another empty table. Instead of asking who brought them, the server remarked "Oh, you got utensils" after arriving empty handed again, leaving me to reply "Yes, after taking them from another table."
No water was ever brought to the table prior to or after ordering drinks, which took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. Additionally, my drink would not arrive until after my food was served, passing the one hour mark while other tables around us dined and drank, arriving well after we did.
And speaking of drinks, I hadn't coordinated this outing and knew nothing about the restaurant or its food, so that's on me. That said, if I knew asking for a soda would get me a look that I just murdered an innocent animal for the fun of it, I would not have asked. It had to be one of the most unnerving looks I've ever received in my life and I worked retail for over 20 years, having thought I've seen it all. Learn something new everyday never gets old.
When the food finally arrived, it was again well after an hour, perhaps an hour and a half at this point. I ordered a burger, medium. What I got, was a cold beef patty that was clearly sitting on a counter for well over thirty minutes. Still no drink at this point, so, after getting the attention of the server, who said the drink should be ready soon, told him the burger was cold and I want to send it back, with no replacement and was offered to have it removed from the bill. At least we could save some money, a silver lining.
I can't say I've ever had a dining experience quite like this, nor do I hope to ever again. If this was any other outing, I would've simply left but I was there to see friends, the food was tertiary. But hey, at least the fries were salted decently, albeit cold and soggy, having sat in oil for far too long.
I still know next to nothing about this restaurant, brand, or owner and I'm all the better for it because I can confidently say if anyone should ever ask about it, I can quickly tell them to go elsewhere without any hesitation.
