True Texas BBQ

Food was absolutely delicious, for the price. Me and my kids chose to have lunch at HEB so we got the flaming bird and the True Texas barbecue. We use the kiosk to order, relatively easy to use. I will say it is misleading when you order the combos and it says the price at the bottom, it should say the total, including the chips in the drink. So if your combo says 4.99 that is the sandwich and when you check out, it shows a price for the chips in the drink. It should say 8.25 so there’s no misleading. combo comes with 20 ounce drink that you can refill and potato chips alongside a sandwich. We ordered chicken fajita loaded fries, two pulled pork sandwiches and one slice brisket. Sandwich includes three chips three drinks. We also ordered a small macaroni. All this food was a little under $45.

I tried this place for the first time on a recent trip with my daughter to San Antonio. I had the BBQ Brisket. It was ok. I can’t rate it excellent because it was cold, and not that juicy, nor flavorful. Also, I had a cornbread that was not that great, it was too dry for my taste. The beans were ok, they too were cold.

Love the authentic smoked bbq here. The staff is very kind and friendly. The food is fresh and taste GREAT! THIS IS AUTHENTIC TEXAS BBQ. Also the dining area is always clean. Thank you for providing our family with a good quality meal while traveling

This TINY cup of beans is $1.50. The food is a step above "Makes a turd". The "Self-Serve" (they only have the kiosk - nobody takes your order anymore) order kiosk is almost non-functional and took longer to use than it did to prepare the food. The staff is slow & non-responsive & seem pissed that they have to work there.

I ordered the small brisket sandwich and the portions were ALOT! I had to take home half of my food. It’s definitely delicious and and very filling!

The ribs are just so tender, juicy and delicious. I can never seem to get enough and the brisket is finger licking good. The whole menu is awesome. Your staff is equally as amazing especially, staff member, Micheal Mendoza . He has great people skills. Whenever I order he always makes me feel like I'm the most important person there. You guys are doing a fantastic job! Keep up the good work! -Regular Customer

The brisket was so good and juicy, had all the right flavors, I could literally smell the aroma drawing me in from the parking lot. Definitely be back to try different items. Staff were fast and friendly. The menu was very clear and easy to read.

Today I went into true Texas barbecue and my mind was blown. I had no idea the barbecue was so fantastic there also, the staff was very friendly and attentive to my needs especially working with the new kiosk system. The partner named John was outstanding. He went above and beyond to take my order and take care of me he should get recommended, and I will be back because of his great customer service. also, the barbecue

My first visit to SATX and this restaurant. Plenty of menu options. We all enjoyed the BBQ. Service was very good and so polite! Def coming back.

Tried to tell me I didn't order a drink. Had to have a second person confirm which is fine they're busy BUT: The limited edition Brisket Bo Boy was almost inedible. Bread was so soggy and soppy that I couldn't pick it up, messy assembly with slaw and banana peppers Brisket was good but overall disappointing for sure

Every was delicious, had the brisket, turkey, pull pork, sausage, Mac and cheese & potato salad. Everything was tender and tasted amazing! Their bbq sauce was not something I liked, a little more bitter than, like burnt sugar? And I ordered Cornbread w/Honey Butterbut I didnt get it sadly. If I would,ve gotten all I paid for it may have been a 5 star. I would eat here again! And hopefully next time I'll get the corn bread!

They now have a kiosk you have to order from which is super annoying and it cheapened things to McDonald's level. The brisket was being cut way thinner as well and didn't taste the same, feels like something changed. Better off going to Rudy's or Smokey joes for the price and quality.

my partner and I came in at 8pm to order some food. As we get there we're at the screen in front of the place to order. And the work that was there was staring at us the whole time ordering, not telling us if they were out of something nor asking what we were ordering to see if they had any left for the night. We finished ordering and mind you were the only people there at this time and with the most ugliest face the man working there said " we're completely out of brisket I don't even know why it let yall order the brisket. yall need to go to business were done for the day" and just looked at us all pissed off as if we were the problem and we knew they were out. So we went to the service area and they were closed and found a wonderful manger and a lady that helped us at register 24 and refunded our money. And as we were walking back to our vehicle the man that was being very rude had two bins full with brisket. He basically lied to our faces, he just didn't want to do his job and make our order. If that man wasn't having a good he should've called off of work or go on break. But do not take your attitude out on customers, that you were clearly looking at ordering and waste our time and yours!

I dropped in for a quick bite to eat while getting my cell phone repaired at the kiosk I said HEB. I ordered a one meat plate. I chose the brisket, mac & cheese, and potato salad. The brisket was good but not exceptional. I would give it a 6 out of 10. I wish the temperature was warmer because it gave off the impression that it was reheated. The Mac & cheese was very underwhelming. I wouldn't order it again. The potato salad was decent. Overall, it was just average. I won't be eating here again when Rudy's BBQ is just a few minutes away.

Maria Rodriguez, manager, provided great customer service while I placed a last minute catering order! She provided lots of good information and recommendations for feeding a large crowd. We're looking forward to future meals from True Texas BBQ!

Pretty good bbq! I have tried the brisket, ribs & turkey and was very satisfied! I recently tried the ribs from here and was very happy with the taste, tenderness and quality. True Texas BBQ is comparable in price but tastes way better than some restaurants that specialize in BBQ.

Left a review late last year and I got a response to give more info and when I did I never received anything back. I guess I need to go speak to the unit director about this since the person in charge isn't doing her job. Very sad

Tried a sampling of chicken, brisket, and ribs. All were quite good...the ribs surprised me. Thoroughly enjoyed all the meats: moist, tender, pleasantly smoky. The brisket beans were also wonderful. However, the cornbread was absolutely awful. Tasted like the carpet from an old grandma's house that burns Pall Malls for air "fresheners". I'll certainly go back, but skipping the cornbread.

Good, Texas BBQ considering it's inside H‑E‑B! The ribs and brisket never disappoints.

Great food. The sliced brisket and Turkey sandwich was amazing! The potato salad is one of a kind. The spicy pickle chips add a kick to your bbq sandwich. Overall, great experience!

Def one of the more pricy bbq joints you could go to but what bbq isn't? Still a bit on the high side. When family is in from out of town and are looking for decent brisket this is where I send them. The sides are yummy, love their corn bread and honey butter! The chop brisket sandwich is much better then the pork but overall a solid stop!

Ordered for pick-up through the app. My husband and father-in-law went to pick up our order at 1830 (which we placed at 1730 for an 1830 pickup). Never received a notification that they were out of everything and our order was never made for pick up. I have never been or ordered from a place that when you order for pick up that you have to check in and then they make your order. What is the point of ordering online? They proceeded to tell my husband and father-in-law that they can head to the back of the line and order from what they have available (which is mainly sides and Turkey). To say the lack of service, management of food and orders is lacking, is an understatement. If you order online, be prepared to wait in line, be told that the don't have the meats to fulfill your order, do the refund, then order from what is available once you get back in line the second time.

Have picked up food from here twice in the past and have been very pleased. Went into HEB the other day, to place an order for the following day, as I had 6 guests coming in from out of state that requested BBQ. The gentleman behind register took my order down and assured me that I could pick it up between 7-7:30 pm the following day . He stated that I would have priority before everything sold out since I placed my order in advance. Went into HEB to pick up my order and they had sold out of everything, but the turkey. They did not have my order written down anywhere and said they did not receive the notice of it. Was extremely disappointed in the service I received and was scrambling to find food elsewhere for my guests. Very disappointed in the BBQ service, as I do all my shopping at HEB.

I first experienced this food at a yelp event back in summer of 2016 and was BLOWN away by every item I sampled - I thought it was better than many of the local BBQ joints - no joke! However, on my first visit to the actual store, we were very disappointed. We showed up at 8pm on Saturday night (they close at 9pm) and were told they were out of brisket, ribs, sausage, pulled pork, and potato salad. Literally, all they had left was turkey, chopped brisket, smoked salmon and some of the sides. I did not come to a BBQ place for smoked salmon! The food was nothing like I remembered from one year ago. The brisket beans were just meh, the chopped brisket on the sandwich and on the loaded baked potato we got was just so-so. It was actually pretty dry. The ordering process was a bit confusing and when we got to the seating area (yes, I realize this is inside an HEB) most of the tables already had the chairs stacked on top of them so there weren't many options for our party of three. Again, they close at 9pm but we were there at 8pm. We spent $23.82 for one loaded chopped brisket potato, a half pound chop brisket sandwich, the smallest cup of creamed corn, the smallest cup of brisket beans, one fountain drink and one domestic beer. After fighting the usual HEB parking lot traffic, I really don't see myself going out of my way to go back. Might be cheaper than other joints in town but not as good, a hassle to get in and out of, and they were out of almost everything. I think they set the bar too high at my sampling last year.

WARNING!!!! NOTHING HAS BBQ SAUCE ON IT. Just dry ass meat. I ordered this meal through Grubhub. There was not an option to add extra sauce. I assumed that there would be sauce on the meat, like most restaurants offer. I'm not a huge Bill Miller fan but the prices and sides are much better there. The meat was delicious. My baked potato tasted like chemicals and the green beans were hard. It was weird. We were really bummed out about our dry meat though.

I've grabbed their sliced turkey a couple of times recently and was very pleased!!! The meat is exceptionally tasty and moist....no need to drown it in bbq sauce. The server is always friendly and throws in the "ends", which I love. It is convenient and fast!

I will say for the first time ordering from here through Grubhub I was not disappointed. The pulled pork and chopped brisket were tender and very flavorful. I can honestly say the Mac and cheese and cream corn are my new favorites as far as sides! I received BBQ sauce on the side, but the meat was cooked and flavored just right to a point BBQ sauce wasn't needed. The sweet tea as well gives Bill Millers some competition. The only thing I didn't like was the sausage, it was very dry. The flavor was ok, but it's not something I'll order again.

I'm really into having a quick, delicious BBQ sandwich at my disposal thanks to this place. I ordered a brisket sandwich and left super full and satisfied. No muss, no fuss. The fun is in watching them make your scrumptious meal and wrap it up all tasty like. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich and that was just as great.

The barbecue is the bomb !! Brisket is so much better than most places I've tried. I even ordered a bunch for Christmas dinner!!! I keep going back every chance I get.

Upon arrival I was not welcomed. To the staff it was a burden to help me. Food also not fresh 1:30pm in Texas and they didn't have tea and were not willing to brew more. decently not coming back.

I normally love the bbq here but today my husband picked up some food and the potato salad was spoiled. I called to let them know and while they thanked me for letting them know, they did not apologize for serving bad potato salad or ask if I was okay after eating some. They did not offer any refund or replacement. I am very disappointed that I was sold bad food. It smelled and tasted old.

First time ordering here, I ordered using the app for convenience. When I arrived the store did not have my order information. It was quickly prepared. However they were out of one of the items that was ordered and already paid for. The baked potato was barely warm. I will not order from here again.

Was a little skeptical about this place at first, but it is HEB and the food was amazing. The best brisket and pulled pork sandwiches I've had in a long time. Will definitely be coming back real soon. All the sides were excellent as well had the potato salad, cream corn and macaroni... I'll most likely be eating while I go grocery shopping now lol

This place is located inside the H.E.B. Great customer service and amazing food. Probably the best Brisket I've had so far in San Antonio! I will definitely be going back on a future visit here.

WOW !!! What a find this was. I read some of the reviews about this location and was I impressed! I ordered a Party Pack for a July 4th party and I will definitely do that AGAIN. The brisket was great, Chicken was on point. Turkey as REALLY GOOD ! Brisket beans, cream corn and great beans were awesome as well. I ordered online and received a 20% discount ( not sure if that was a promo for July 4 or not) If you are looking to get some REAL TEXAS BBQ...try this place out...you will not be disappointed. I would rather smoke my own, but this saved me a ton of time and was great, The staff was awesome as well. Get to this place and try it out !!!

It's different to eat BBQ inside a grocery store. The store was fairly clean. Mostly average. Nothing stood out. The chicken was "good " and the ribs were "good". Also had a pulled pork but I like them more on the dry side versus a wet pulled pork that soaks the bread. Probably won't go there again as there are other BBQ places in the area. UPdate *** the fact that the owner took the time to respond and confirm this was below their standards tells me that I must have visited on an off day. She responded with concern not excuses. That means a lot to me as a consumer.

If you think of BBQ you better be thinking of H-E-B! The service is always on point, the food however was amazing! I expected it to be good but not this GOOD! Everything from the loaded potato w/Sausage, to the brisket, to the jalapeño mac & cheese. I'll always support H-E-B and i'm so glad i found this spot! I will continue to eat here and enjoy the great experience!

Check it, true Texas BBQ has some of the best bbq for quick on the go service. I always order the build your bowl. Their chicken bowl is bigger than chipotle and only $5. That is half the price of chipotle. The service is always excellence and they are very accommodating to why you want. The food is fresh cooked chicken that is done right in front of your eyes. Next time I come here I'll be getting the frito nacho brisket plate.

Garbage fast food bbq, brisket is a big disappointment, mostly fat, potato salad is the worst thing you could ever eat.

Chopped brisket sandwich was good, wide got the 3 meat plate Turkey, brisket and sausage. Sausage was on the try side Turkey wasn't bad she did like the brisket. Over all not a bad place to eat considering its inside of HEB

Brisket is to die for... we crave it!!! Everything else is ok. It's expensive brisket.. but we will spend the money!!

Awful, I was already skeptical of good bbq out of a grocery store but it got alot of great reviews. They were practically out of everything and it was only 4 pm. Great Customer service was lacking also.

I was very disappointed with my experience at this location compared to the wonderful experience I had at the Pleasanton location. First off, the customer service was poor right from the beginning. The young men never greeted me or asked what I wanted. It was very awkward. Next, I told them I had two large orders that needed to be payed for separately and they were not able to keep the orders separate so this caused mass confusion when it was time to pay. Also, when you are waiting to pay, the grocery store shoppers keep breaking in line for their groceries to be rung up. I would think they would make them pay at the regular check out lanes, but the BBQ check out is right by the door, so I guess that is why they come here. That is very irritating and takes so much longer to get BBQ orders processed timely. This HEB is just too crowded to allow people to pay for groceries here. It was almost a fair like atmoosphere due to the large number of people shopping. Just too crowded to enjoy coming here. Now for the food. The brisket bark was very hard, chewy, and had to be pulled off. It was served room temperature. The sausage was dry. I'm not sure if it was old or if it had been microwaved a long time. Other than that the flavor was good. The meat did not taste fresh at all. I did enjoy the creamed corn and macaroni and cheese. I also tasted the pulled pork sandwich and it was perfect, very very good. If you want to know how good their food can be, I suggest you go to the Pleasanton location. I doubt I will return to this location and I live in San Antonio. Like I said, disappointing.

Definitely good food. Wish the employees today were more friendly. I think the manager served me and she seemed to hate her job. BTW, make sure you ask for condiments/sides like BBQ sauce, pickles, onions, bread, etc as she certainly doesn't offer. But food is good although a little pricey.

First let me say that I did not even know that HEB had catering. We were looking for an athletic school function meal for athletes and their parents when we were given the info for HEB. We got into contact with Mr. Steven Lopez and he assisted us in getting the best menu items within our budget. He was very patient with us as 1, we had a budget and 2, we had not tasted or used HEB for catering and our event was in a week. Mr. Lopez offered us to taste the BBQ before the event to ensure we would be satisfied. It was one of the best pieces of brisket/turkey that I have tasted. For our event we had a quarter piece of chicken, brisket, brisket beans, and potato salad. It was a hit! And within our budget. That was back in October and we have used them ever since. They not only have awesome BBQ, we had tamale plate in December, pasta plate in March. We even use them for our director's meetings now. They have a variety of food to choose from and so far they have all been delicious. We couldn't be happier with Mr. Lopez and his team's services.

The ribs are amazing here! The mac and cheese is pretty good too. The coleslaw could use some flavor. It was a bit bland. I would never think that a BBQ place in H-E-B would have this caliber of food. So glad I tried it.

The food was decent. I'm giving a low rating because of the service. The Caucasian woman at the register quickly and respectfully serviced everyone in line before me; however, I was the only person she made "prove" I had an order. Gave her my name just as everyone else did, spelled it, and told her what it was - but she wouldn't give me our food until I showed her the order in my phone. Couldn't help but notice I was the only African American in line and the only one she just couldn't believe.

Drove over half and hour to come try the BBQ, my family and I went into the into the store at 6:35 pm, they were already out of turkey and brisket. Very disappointed!

By far this is the best bbq in San Antonio! The brisket melts in your mouth. Then on top of that the manager named Steven who welcomed us very warmly! He spoke to us for a good 15 minutes and then gave us free bannana pudding! All in all San Antonio isn't known for its bbq but this place will definitely get us on the map!

if your looking for better than average bbq this is your place. I have been here several times already and all of their meats are cooked to perfection. I highly recommend!! you wont be dissapointed..

Came from Seattle. Excited to try Texas bbq. They closed early about 5 minutes early. Their register was ready pulled.

The food was good but it wasn't anything to write home about. The marbled brisket was tender but it was SUPER salty. So salty, it was hard to eat it with BBQ sauce. I had a brisket sandwich and the brisket topped frito pie. The frito pie was just chips and shredded cheese with oily brisket on top. I was really disappointed with the frito pie (the photos made it look awesome). The prices are kinda expensive and the sides only looked average. The best thing was the banana pudding they give you for free when you check in on yelp. I spent over $40 but no one left satisfied. It would be diffucult to justify going again.

Ate here with my sister, the ribs was good. I didn't like the potato salad. I just like devil egg potato salad. And their banana pudding is really good.
