True Texas Boil House

I love love love this place. I stopped in last week while in town because I seen a huge sign with specials & thought I would give it a try. Best decision I made that day because they had chicken wing baskets on sale. It was $6 for 12 wings with a delicious side. (I got the corn.) I went back this week while back in Houston & was there on any fried basket for $6 day. Awesome deal... I got the fish & shrimp basket with two tasty sides. (I picked the fries & potatoes with a 16 oz drink for an extra $1.) The food was fresh & flavorful. Therefore, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a new seafood &/or chicken spot in south Houston because it is great.

It was OK for a little snack and we had the two for one offer. 10 bucks for a couple of nice fired seafood pieces is a good deal

We saw the sign of boiled crawfish and jumbo shrimps and was intrigued. As we were debating what to get, Mr. D opened the window and talked to us about what they had and gave us a sample. The boiled crawfish was delicious and very spicy. The spicy boiled jumbo shrimp was even better! The wedge fries were tasty- crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. So we got 4 pounds of Crawfish and 1 pound of Shrimps. Since it was a Saturday and we bought 5lbs of boiled stuff, we got an extra 1 lb of boiled shrimp. Even though the crawfish was a bit small, it was absolutely delicious! We came back the following Wednesday for a Buy-One Get-One Fried order. Since we love fried whole fish, we ordered it. It wasn’t battered or floured so it wasn’t crunchy on the outside but we tore through it within 10 minutes. There was a lot of fresh tasty meat on the fish and satisfied our cravings. The gentleman at the window suggested we tried their other fried meals like fried chicken wings and fried catfish. The wings were dry and the catfish was small. The catfish I had that catfish tang. I’m not into it but others are. Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the jumbo boiled shrimp were exceptional! There are 2 metal picnic tables in front of the windows under a tent. There are 2 fans help during this heat wave. Get it to-go if you if you order the boiled shrimps and crawfish. Having flies distracting you from your enjoyment is not recommended. Thanks again, D!

Can’t be the price on these crawfish. $5.97 when you buy 5lbs or more. Where they doing that? Spicy is too spicy for my liking prefer Mild but the crawfish are decent size. I ate here 3x- the 2nd time a lot of the smaller tails were mushy. Overall good flavor and great price point.

Y’all have to do better with the workers the lady who had took my order was being so rude to me she had a attitude & it was my first time ordering… other than that my family Loved the crawfish. But i feel like yall shouldn’t make your costumers uncomfortable. It’s sad

I'm highly disappointed because I don't play when it comes to my Crawfish.

The end of January or the beginning of February, which was the first time I went, the crawfish was DELICIOUS!!!! The last 2 times I went they were mushy and salty. Whoever was cooking at the beginning of the season need to come back, PRONTO!

There are so many better options than this place. The fried shrimp were way overdone and the hush puppies have no flavor. It also is not priced well considering it's attached to a grocery store and run by H-E-B, overall, this is a mess of a concept for H-E-B. I won't be coming back

I swear this is probably the truest to the Texas boil you'll ever find in Southwest Houston. The name says it all. True Texas Boil House is a super sized upgrade version of the old shrimp boil shack. Unless you shop at H-E-B every week, you won't know the annoying crawfish and shrimp boil pot on a greasy pad. The pungent fish boil juice burns my eyes every time I walk by or smelling in the downwind. Thanks to a recent remodeling of the entire Chinatown H-E-B. Everything is encapsulated in a metal box. Two exhaust vents atop of this roof still releasing the pleasant fragrance from the good old days plus more. The cashier jokes about how much he loves fried fish, fried shrimp and he wants to make shrimp fried rice. Since they have a kitchen, they've added hush puppies, garlic fries and other surprises coming up. My favorite is the fried whole tilapia basket. I've never seen fish that big existed in the supermarket. It took 2 people to finish the basket. I've heard crawfish are kind of small. So I skipped it and went straight to jumbo shrimp. I can't eat too much spicy seafood. I wish they had it mild.

So I felt like I just had to say something about my meal today since it's my first time at this restaurant, I literally just got done eating it lol, and when I say that was THEEE BEST! Fried Snapper I have had in an extremely long time smh lawd! It was good!! Seasoned so well and fried up nice and then drizzled with that delicious garlic sauce and my potatoes and corn were way as delicious the corn was so sweet and savory because of the sauce and the potatoes were perfect ugh! I thoroughly enjoyed this meal yall! I couldn't even get home with it after I tasted it in the car lmbo I turned right back and parked and ate my food in the car, one of the best car lunches ive ever had. I know the snapper is only for a limited time but I'm just gonna ask that y'all never stop selling it lol I will be back with friends and family to enjoy this fish again before it's gone!

Oh my gawd!! I avoided this place for a few months because I didn't know how it worked, I wasn't sure what exactly it was, and it just seemed overwhelming to an autistic person. Well! One day HEB was giving samples of the fried oysters. OMG to die for. So I asked how I could get a plate of them. The nice security guard walked me to the proper window and the counter guy helped me order. Then I had to walk to another window to get my meal and pay. I just left my full shopping basket by the side of the pay window and that didn't seem to be an issue. Nobody tried to steal my groceries. The downside is they are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday but all the other days they have a daily special as well as any menu items you want. Get the fried oyster basket. It's delicious!

My wife & I went by this new restaurant today. We were not impressed. Think of the hotdog court at Costo and translate that to a shrimp boil court attached to an H.E.B. We were glad it wasn't raining.

First time trying The spicy boiled crawfish is really good absolutely recommended!!! Also, sold at a really great price would go again

My husband and I really enjoyed the crawfish and shrimp. Totally recommend the spicy! PROS: Good flavor, good prices! CONS: crawfish were fairly small, they need to wash them better, and we had a lot of claws. It's the beginning of the season so I'm not really complaining. Will definitely be back!

Stopped by to pick up some crawfish Togo and was happy with how fast their service was. Crawfish is currently $6.97/lb BUT if you order 5lbs or more, it will be $5.97/lb! It's the classic true Cajun boil flavor that you would get from cooking at home. For the price, I would honestly recommend others to come here for the quality you get from the price. Great value and the employees were really friendly!

I have been coming here to HEB for years for seafood before this restaurant came about. I used to be in love with them but over the past year or two, that has dwindled. When it's good ITS GOOD! But when it's bad ITS BAD! I feel like I should be able to come to an establishment and have consistent good food and not have to worry about whether certain cooks are there. I came on Sunday evening and ordered 1 pound of crawfish spicy and 1 pound mild. 1 pound of Head on Shrimp, with a side of corn and potatoes. Was severely disappointed! I had a ton of legs and claws!!!! Alot of my crawfish didn't even have tails! The spicy had no flavor. The shrimp was overcooked and salty. Once the restuarant opened, I honestly expected the consistency to be better, but I was sadly disappointed. The only thing I enjoyed was the corn and potatoes. I can't say I feel comfortable recommending people to eat here anymore.

This is my 1st visit to The Boil House but I was a frequent visitor of the HEB boils before this boil house open. I must say that I was quite disappointed. I ordered 5 lbs regular and 1 corn. The flavor was ok, I've had way better from them. The size was mixed but mostly small. Probably 2lb of the 5lbs were smashed and could not be eaten. They taste as if they had been sitting in the cooler. Normally they would have been too hot for me to eat right away. I really wanted to go back and return them but as I waited for the line to go down, it never did. HEB was in my top 3 places to eat crawfish. They were about $5.97 lb if 5 purchased. $30 gone and I'm so unsatisfied. My friend purchased the same amount. I'm not sure if it was a just a bad day or if it's time for me to find new selections.

As someone who loves HEB & loves crawfish I was prepared to love True Texas Boil House. Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed. A lot of the poundage we took home was made up of crushed crawfish & tiny separated claws. They also were lukewarm in temperature. Size wise, there weren't any I would qualify as big. Small to smedium. We got the spicy seasoning & it was definitely spicy. Had to take a break at one point to cool my lips down. The potatoes were undercooked & not seasoned well. We will probably give it another shot in case it was a bad day. If it's any better, I will update my review.

The fish and shrimp combo basket is horrible the fish was undercooked and they only give you not even a filet just three small pieces strips of fish the shrimps was completely bread couldn't even see the shrimp and they only give you maybe five pieces of fries literally. Not even worth the price you pay just horrible!!!!

ordered fried oysters and these people almost killed me i was sick all night on the toilet and therowing up they had bad customer service too never eat here they will get you sick

Ordered 5 pounds of spices crawfish with corn and potatoes. The crawfish had great flavor and so did the corn. The potatoes where covered in more spices and seasoning which didn't make them taste so great. The level of spicy was great! We will definitely be back. Only complaint is there is kinda small but it's the beginning of the season.

The crawfish was super salty and definitely not fresh. The price and size (medium to large) are reasonable, but not worth it because of the taste quality. The $5 deal and free fried combo was a good deal. The head on shrimp tasted equally bad as crawfish. The free fried combo tasted better than the crawfish. The corn was good. The dining area was nice. The wait was kind of long so I'd suggest order it then go shop and come back to get it.

Love HEB and their commitment/support of Houston! Another example of a fine establishment created by the company. Just opened yesterday - simple menu, good prices. Can't go wrong with fried shrimp... Can't wait to try everything else!

Great place for quick service and tasty Cajun style crawfish! I love a lot of spice, and they definitely bring on the heat here. Will have to come back to try the other seafood they have to offer.

Tried tue texas boil the other day and crawfish came out super fast and hot! Its cajun styled with great flavor!

This is a good lil place to fix your boiled shrimp fix for cheap. Try it out jumbo head on shrimp $7.97 lb with wonderful soaked in flavor. Don't get spicy unless u want to breath fire!! But it's worth the fire

I love true Texas boil house! It is perfect for when you are craving cooked seafood at a low price. The convenience is amazing for when you don't want to make it yourself and don't want to pay an arm and leg for tasty crawfish or crab legs! It's quick, easy, and delicious!!!

3 stars for convenience because for boiled shrimp it's around 7-8 bucks per pound ALREADY BOILD & at that the shrimp are HUGE ! Which is definitely a steal considering that inside the seafood isle they may be priced the EXACT SAME FOR TO BE RAW , FROZEN , & UNPEELED SHRIMP! When if boiled shrimp is what you wanted / were craving anyway kinda sorta restaurant style then hey ! You literally cannot beat it ! Boiled shrimp at restaurants range from 10.99 L.A. fisherman for a pound to Lotus & LA Crawfish shack like 15.99$ for 1 POUND & UP SO ITS A SUPER STEAL !!!! 2 stars off because the boil isn't really that good unfortunately the line is ALWAYS STUPID CRAZY LONG , area is a always very chaotic considering the HEB itself , there's a wing stop , a beauty supply , a tapioca & tea house , etc , they all share a huge parking lot which is a couple of acres of just parking but it's located in a culturally diverse & dense part of town ! & right down the street from the hood haha ! They even have a little Spanish stand next to it where they sell cool cups & elote, hot dogs , so if it's hot get your self a lil snow cone & sit back & enjoy the line

Love the fried catfish basket! But the cajun fries SHOULD be spicy. They didn't really have any spice to it. Other than that, good!

Houston always needs more crawfish place, and glad this one opened up! Super affordable and fast service. Always tired of waiting for over an hour at the other crawfish stores. This one will definitely be my go to moving forward!
