Need something to add some swagger to a dinner party spread, or maybe you're just in the mood for a fantastic snack? Stop by The Truffle Cheese Shop! I've been in three times so far, and each time the staff has been incredibly helpful, accommodating, and very generous in their sample offering.
When you walk in the shop, which is pretty small, you'll find yourself surrounded by cookies, crackers, candies, olive oils, mustards, jams... every garnish you can think of. It all seems to be of high quality, and everything I have tried so far has been wonderful.
But, what you're really after are the refrigerated displays about ten feet in. Here, the staff houses their fantastic meats and cheeses. You'll find, I'd guess, over thirty different kinds of cheese and probably ten or so meats. Now, maybe you're not sure what you want, or would like to try something new but don't know much about cheese - just ask for a sample. The staff has always been very helpful at listening to my general taste, and then finding and recommending cheeses that I'll like. They are helpful, patient, and don't push you into making large purchases.
Usually when I go in, I walk out with five or six small cuts of cheese, so I can enjoy the variety over the next week or so. Some of the cheeses are pricey, but if you only get a small wedge, you can end up with a great little cheese plate for $20 bucks or so. Oh, and don't forget to check out the cooler to the left of the main counters - more cheese!
This is a wonderful little shop, and (along with EVOO downtown) will be my go-to place to buy gifts for those friends of mine who already have everything. Highly, highly recommended!!
