The more I think about this, the more frustrated I get.
We were overcharged, plain and simple. That's not okay.
Okay, the food was good.. pasta was fresh and perfectly done. The Truffle Caesar ($14) salad was really fresh, and nice. Best dish was the Pollo Fiorentino ($28) -- superb. Pass on the Funghi Ripieni ($22).. stuffed mushrooms, nothing remarkable, pretty oily.
Let's talk about the "special".. the "Lobster fettuccine", not on the printed menu. The waiter described the specials, including the "market price" cheese wheel pasta. (And why is cheese MP? Does the MP of parmesan vary by season or something?)
All the specials are the same price, he kept repeating, being $55. Including the Lobster Fettuccine, a serving of pink sauce pasta with half a lobster. The pasta was great, the lobster was ... just a waste. It was terribly overcooked, to where most of it was a shriveled dry sprig of lobster jerky, soaked in oil, served hidden by a very pretty large shell that makes everyone go "Oooo.. I want that". It was more Puerto Nuevo style, cut and deep fried. Maybe that's just how it is, but there wasn't a lot to enjoy.. could have been dried chicken in there. Not pre-scored or provided with crackers, so just an oily mess to eat by force. Pity the date-night crowd trying to make this dainty -- it's a hot mess, and not worth the work.
When it's time to check out, you get this Toast terminal that has ONLY the Total price and the 18/20/25% tip selection. Tap your card, email your tab if you want, and off you go.
Imagine the surprise when I come home to email showing the Lobster Fettuccine was not $55 but $72.95! That's not cool. You don't print the price on the menu, fine, but then your waiter has to be truthful about what it is!
I could have caught this on check-out except they don't show you the itemized tab at all.
The final kick in the pants? A 3.95% "Surcharge" that wasn't listed anywhere on the menu or information. I get it, yeah yeah, it's not illegal until July, but it just stings when they already overcharged me $18 for my entrée.. the cost of a whole appetizer or cocktail, now charged a bonus 4% for the .. whatever, on top of the tip for the incorrect service. (Tip auto-calculated inclusive of Tax and Service Charge, naturally.) Not a fan of this Italian "Toast" surprise, at all.
