Yelp
On a weekend trip to San Diego, I walked around San Diego State University's campus on a Saturday. It was spring break so not a lot of students were there. After my stroll, I was ready for lunch and stumbled upon Trujillo's Taco Shop right next to campus.
Service (3/5): Service isn't a big part of the experience because you order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready. It's served on a tray, so after you're done, put anything leftover in the trash and stack your tray on top of the trash bin. Done.
Ambiance (2.5/5): Trujillo's is a no-frills Mexican restaurant. You're not going there for the ambiance. You're going there for the food. And the affordable prices. There's a good amount of seating and one TV. The bathrooms aren't the cleanest but again, it's the type of spot you're at for one reason only.
Drinks (4/5): While they have beer, I went with a soft drink. They have some specials that come with a soft drink included so that's what I went with.
Food (4/5): Now this is what we've been waiting for. Trujillo's has a large menu of burritos, tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, and other popular Mexican fare. They also have 16 or so specials named after various fraternities and sororities on campus. A lot of them were interesting. I went with the one that is a burrito with carne asada, guacamole, salsa, and French fries, wrapped in a quesadilla with a soft drink. It's a large burrito! The tortilla is homemade which is always important. The meat was flavorful and the guac was fresh. French fries in burritos is a California thing so I'm not complaining. It added some nice crunch to the burrito. And I was stuffed after eating it all.
When I go to California, I always complain about the prices of everything e.g. gas, food, drinks, events, museums, etc. One way to get around that is on a college campus. Pro tip.
