The Best Pizza in Los Angeles

"Dana Point’s Truly Pizza, which just announced plans to expand to Laguna Beach, was named one of the best 50 pizzerias in the U.S. in 2024 and won a competition at the World Pizza Championship in Italy. Operated in part by John Arena, Chris Decker, and Michael Vakneen, who all hail from Las Vegas, the wood-fired round- and square-pizza specialists make exemplary pies worthy of a trek to Orange County." - Eater Staff

The 38 Essential Orange County Restaurants

"This partnership from chef Chris Decker, Donna Baldwin, John Arena, and developer Steve Muller brings some of the best pizza in Southern California to Dana Point. Hearth-baked 12-inch American artisan pizzas like La Dolce Vita with fontina, artichoke cream, prosciutto coto, and arugula emerge from the kitchen. But the coveted square pizzas, which are limited daily, combine the fluffy chew of focaccia with a quintessential cheese pull. The classic pepperoni and cheese is slathered with nuanced California red sauce and topped with fresh and aged whole milk mozzarella and charred pepperoni. Save space for Strauss Creamery organic vanilla soft serve with drizzles of chocolate sauce or sprinkles of pistachio." - Jenn Tanaka

The 16 Essential Pizzerias in Orange County

"Nestled deep into Dana Point, this collaboration from award-winning chef Chris Decker — plus operators John Arena, Donna Baldwin, and partner Steve Muller — feels like an Avengers-style pizza creation. With airy, long-fermentation dough used in its round and square pizzas, the toppings are the star here. Decker and his on-the-ground chef, Sergio Balderas, craft well-browned pies covered with thin pepperoni cups, creamy stracciatella, and roasted vegetables. The result is something pretty far from authentic Italian, but also very familiar to Californians used to big, saucy, well-topped pies that don’t fold over like soaked cardboard. They’re served in an almost fully outdoor space that captures the ocean breeze just a few blocks away, though there’s also an enclosed dining room upstairs since the weather can get chilly. With plenty of experience building multiple units, it’s only a matter of time before Truly moves northward into more populated parts of Orange County and even Los Angeles. — Matthew Kang, lead editor" - Cathy Park

We went to this restaurant for lunch. We ordered two pizzas for three people: One Champion Cheese and one Smoke Vodka. Both were very delicious and tasty. For dessert, we had soft serve with olive oil and soft serve with cherry. The dessert was also very pleasant and delicious. The outdoor space was very clean and beautiful. The service was very good, and everything was served on time. I will definitely come here again.

This rating is suffers from having to appoint it a whole number. It's better than a 4-star, but it's not a 5-star. I'd put it at a 4.3/4.4. Bottom line: It's worth a visit (if you like pizza). Now, this is award-winning pizza, literally, and they tell you all about it as you're seated. They'll also tell you that you're on the clock, as they will want to turn the table over. You just can't sit there all night (you'll be well-served to have a reservation). The pizza is good, if a little less than traditional. I can see why it would win awards, particularly for the unique and creative crust, but I can also see how it might disappoint someone wanting a taste of the Amalfi coast (for example). The square, thick-crust pizzas are lighter than it looks. Conversely, the circular, thin-crust pizzas are heavier than they look. Pizzas take about thirty minutes to arrive after ordering, so consider an appetizer. Also, bring layers of clothing, as it can get chilly, especially if the wind is blowing. They have blankets to use, but they're on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is what I call a professional pizza! After trying countless spots across Orange County, Truly Pizza stands out as the best by far. The flavors are unique, and you can taste the quality in every bite. The bread has an incredible texture crisp on the outside, soft on the inside which really sets it apart. A must-try for any true pizza lover!

This place is absolutely incredible! The atmosphere is fantastic—so lively and energetic. There were a lot of people, but it was totally worth it. We came in and had an amazing salad, followed by a pizza that was simply outstanding. I haven’t had such a perfect pizza in a long time! Highly recommend it to everyone. It was an unforgettable experience. The perfect lunch!

I have had two amazing pizza slices in OC this week. This being a VERY close second slice/pie. The first was Brooklyn City in Laguna Niguel…the best NY slice this side of the Mississippi hands down. The second is this spot. I ordered the award winning cheese. THE CRUST!!! Omg amazing. The sauce was great not too salty; not sweet. Cheese not too much but not quite enough. I could have gone for a little more cheese but this slice was pretty damn good. Save yourselves some time and make a resy. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Would definitely go back!!

Google
We came here for a double date and seriously enjoyed everything we tried. The Champion Cheese should not be missed. I didn’t know how tasty a cheese pizza could be! We were seated a bit later (~20 mins) than our reservation - there was a prom group that held things up. The host was communicative and apologetic about the delay which went a long way. Our server seemed a bit “over it” by the time we were seated, but regardless, we will definitely be back!

Google
Finally made it out to Truly Pizza since the reservations are like months out and people rave about this place on Tiktok. But, not quite what I expected honestly. Service was good and beautiful views but the food is the main attraction, c'mon now. Started off with the garlic pull apart bread and it was super solid. Soft, buttery, and packed with good flavor without feeling heavy. Easy to crush. We also got the classic chicken wings and honestly, these stole the show. Wings were fire. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside, seasoned really well, and just had that perfect balance of flavor. Now for the pizzas. We tried the Champion Cheese since it won Best Pizza of 2024 but to be real, it was kind of a letdown. It was good, the crust was crunchy and airy which I liked, but the red sauce was missing something. It lacked that pop of flavor you expect. I did not really get much of the classic oregano or garlic spice, and lowkey curious what tomatoes they even use because it just felt a little flat. Not bad, just not crazy good either like I was hoping. The crispy pepperoni was solid, had the little pepperoni cups with the edges crisped up nicely, but the real one to go after is the spinach and artichoke pizza. That one hit different. Super creamy without being heavy, good balance of flavors, and honestly the best pizza we had out of the bunch. Truly Pizza has good energy, the spot is nice, and the wings alone make it worth coming back for. I would just pass on the hype for the Champion and stick to what they do best.

Google
A restaurant that actually lives up to its name. Artisan round, thin crusts as well as square, thicker crusts. And if you’re craving both, you get both all in one place. Unique combinations such as a sesame seed crust with bonito flakes in the Umami Mushroom. Add a beautiful dining area, a cool ocean breeze, friendly/prompt service and refreshing soft serve to end the meal.

Yelp
I walked into Truly pizza a normal person. I walked out questioning reality. This pizza did things to me I can't fully explain. First bite, eyes glazed, brain malfunctioned, soul briefly left my body. My friends were talking, but all I could hear was the symphony of cheese, sauce, and perfectly crispy crust singing to me like the angels themselves handcrafted this pie.

Yelp
I made reservations here for fathers day since my husband loves pizza and we're celebrating his first fathers day. We arrived and luckily found street parking. We checked in and still waited 15 minutes for our table. We got seated downstairs and the atmosphere was lovely. I love the aesthetic of the place with a lemon tree in the center. Apparently they have an upstairs too with additional seating. We ordered a iced tea, hazy ale, spagnola salad, crispy pepperoni round pizza, and the square smoky vodka pizza. The iced tea was just a bottle iced tea. The hazy ale was pretty mild and light. The spagnola salad had arugula, pear, nuts, and prosciutto. The glaze was nice and refreshing and paired well with the arugula. The crispy pepperoni round pizza had a very thin crust and was a bit tough to bite into. The bottome tasted a bit burnt which ruined the taste of the pizza. We were not a fan of the thin crust since it wrecked the roof of our mouth from the hardness of the crust. The vodka pizza was a bit thicker and more pillowy which i prefer over the thin crust. It was a bit softer to bite into and the flavors of the roasted tomatoes and cheese paired well with the salty pepperoni. The pepperoni was too salty and it needed something to balance out the saltiness. Overall i was a bit disappointed in the pizzas. Everything else was just ok. The server wasnt the friendliest but we understood since it was somewhat a holiday weekend. We just wished the food experience was better.

Yelp
This restaurant is where I'd go to for a cute little date night. It felt like I went on vacation. Highly recommend making a reservation!!! Came here on a Friday night at 6pm with 3 people and we waited ~45 minutes for a bar seating but a table ended up becoming available so that was nice. Food Ordered: * Honey Harissa Wings - 3.5/5 - not sure if it's supposed to be a dry or wet rub?, flavor was okay, not with the price for just 6 wings * French Fries - 2/5 - basic, pass!!!! * Spagnola Salad - 4.5/5 - I love arugula and the prosciutto was a nice touch * La Foresta Pizza - 5/5 - everything about this pizza hit the spot for me, the herbed ricotta and mushrooms were so flavorful * Smoky Vodka + $3 pepperoni - 3.75/5 - the square style is pretty dense even though the worker said it'd be light and airy. Maybe if we ate this one first, it would've been airy-er. Did not need to add the pepperoni since the pizza already had a lot of flavor * Ranch - yums Drinks (not pictured) * Frazzante - 3.5/5 - just tasted like a sangria * Truly Spritz - 4/5 - refreshing

Yelp
I'll be honest. At first, I didn't buy the hype. There's been a lot of pizza places popping up in Orange County, let alone South Orange County, and they get drummed up by all of the Instagram/YouTube/TikTok people that show beautiful pictures of food only to be let down because the food isn't very good whatsoever. You probably can think of a few people I'm talking about. Truly Pizza popped up on my feed and in conversation with other people, and I thought this was another one of those. Was I wrong. The star of the show here is really the dough. They use it for the sandwiches and pizza and while having a thick, chewy texture, it comes off very light on the palette. The ingredients they use are all or mostly local which is something I can support and come across as very premium. We got the Italian sandwich that had a little too much citrus for my taste, but my father crushed the whole thing and he's a picky eater so that's a win. The Smoky Vodka pizza with added Pepperoni was a game changer. That thing donates to a good cause (who doesn't want to support the pups), and even if it didn't, I'd order it. Our server knew the menu very well and while she admitted that she hasn't tried everything, the things that she recommended were on point. I highly recommend this place. Dana Point is lucky to have many great pizza options within a stones throw.

Yelp
What an epic place for a truly delicious pizza. It came up as number 1 place to eat when visiting Dana point. We didnt know how busy it was and walked in but there was no space so we left. Lesson learnt that make reservations Anyhow we went again the next morning when it opened at 11am and we got in. Ordered wings, a round cheese pizza and a square pesto pizza. We were not super hungry but got just for the experience of it and yummmmmm. The pizzas were really light and we didnt feel over fed.our server explained how the dough is made so its so light. We boxed the leftovers and there were instructions of how to warm up so it remains soft.

Yelp
We ordered for to-go, so can't really speak on much on the dine-in experience. Though the Indoor/Outdoor feel was fitting for the Dana Point location. Pizza was delicious. That airy thin crust was amazing. Wings were decent. Nothing to write home about. Though the ranch had a nice twist of dill, which was refreshing. Salad was...well... vegetables and dressing. Rough chop salads, are they popular nowadays? Ya'll remember that Family Guy episode where they order a salad at the pizza joint? Yeah. That's what it was like. In the end, the star is the pizza and that light and crispy crust, and you MUST try it.

Yelp
Worth the hype - Truly is one of the best pizza spots I've ever been to, and as an east coast native who grew up in the Tri State area I feel like that's saying something. While it doesn't necessarily honor my NJ thin crust pizza roots, it excels in the category of what we call "fancy $30 pizza". Offering two crust options, a casual but refined dining experience and a friendly staff Truly is worth visiting if you'll be in the area. Fair warning - need a reservation well in advance! Highly recommend the sweet and spicy and the crispy pepperoni

Yelp
Raph-a-licious! My boyfriend and I had Friday date night here last week and it was such a wonderful experience. First off, the marketing of their "Truly" and the hearts are charming. It was on their menu and the pizza boxes. The overall ambiance was amazing! The lemon and greenery garden vibe was beautiful. The market string lights definitely added to a romantic dining al fresco style. Pizza... Pizza... For the pièce de résistance, we ordered the Suprema and Umami Mushroom. The Suprema was a thicker crust, square shaped, and came with a red sauce. It is Truly's version of a supreme. Definitely full of flavor. Has a kick of a tad of spice to it. And like any supreme Pizza there are meats and vegetables as toppings, which is the greatest combo. The Umami Mushroom was a round pizza and a thinner crust. This kne usually will come with a white sauce but my boyfriend had an allergy to dairy, so we improvised it to have olive and garlic oil as the "sauce." It was still delicious! This one was definitely the Asian fusion pizza. It even was topped with bonito flakes, which you will find on certain Japanese cuisine. I cannot say which of the two I liked more. They were both good in each of their own way. For dessert -- I had the Soft Serve Ice Cream and added chocolate syrup and pistachios as toppings. It was simple, had Italian vibes, and scrumptious. Our server was fabulous! She made it super easy and helpful with my boyfriend's allergy. Her knowledge of the menu was superb and she had great recommendations. She helped me decide my ice cream toppings! Overall, this was a great experience and it was a perfect date night.

Yelp
After hearing about Truly Pizza from many different people but never having tried it, my friend and I decided to stop in on a Friday evening. We were told that they were fully booked and that we could be added to a waitlist with no guarantee. As we were preparing to order to-go, a table for two opened up and we were seated right away. Very friendly host and wait staff. We decided to split two pizzas - one Spicy Vodka (square) and one Bella Donna (round). Bella Donna was brought back for a 2 year anniversary of this pizza. Tbh they should have left it in the last year because this was not our favorite as it had a strange after taste and too many flavors at once. The Spicy Vodka on the other hand was really delicious. I recommend adding pepperoni for a little bit of protein. Overall a great first experience here!

Yelp
As a true pizza lover, I was beyond excited to finally try Truly Pizza in Dana Point after hearing all the buzz--and it absolutely lived up to the hype! I went on my birthday (on a Monday around 11 AM) and was thrilled to find it quiet and not crowded, which made the experience even better. I started with the wedge salad and the cheese & meat plate--both delicious and beautifully presented. A great start that set the tone for what was to come. The real star, though, was the Umami Mushroom Pizza. WOW. The flavor was incredible--deep, rich, savory--and that crust? Unbelievable. Crispy, flaky, almost pastry-like... unlike anything I've ever had. Truly next level. This place is a gem. I highly recommend it--but maybe don't tell too many people, because I'd love to keep those lines short . Fingers crossed they open a second location closer to home in Huntington Beach someday! p.s. why the restroom pix? I figure clean crapper, likely clean kitchen too

Yelp
Every time I've gone to Truly's, I've always enjoyed my experience. The service is consistently excellent, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They even noticed us getting our hands dirty and brought over extra napkins and wet wipes, such a thoughtful touch! The zesty wings were interesting. I've never had zesty harissa-flavored wings before. It's a unique option, and the flavor isn't something you come across often, which makes it fun to try. The umami mushroom pizza stole the show. I'm not usually a fan of mushroom pizza, but this one converted me. Everything just works so well together, and the real surprise was the sesame seeds on that super crispy crust, genius! The Suprema is still my go-to pizza at Truly's. It always hits the spot, and I love the combo of flavors in every bite.

Yelp
Unable to make online reservations for the same day, we arrived mid-afternoon as walk-ins; we didn't expect a 1-1/2 hour waitlist mid-afternoon. While I would've preferred a cute table under the lemon trees , we were delighted to be offered almost immediate seating "at the bar" which is the counter bordering the north and east sides of the enclosed kitchen. I'm surprised that I continue to encounter the situation in which a restaurant's barstools are a little short for their bar counter (or the counter too tall for their short seats); with the counter hitting me mid-chest, having to raise my elbows in order to place them on the table (for reference only -- not that I would place my elbows on the table!), dining wasn't the most comfortable (especially when using both fork and knife). Fortunately, we didn't experience being ignored at the barstools/counter seats as some Yelpers reported; Bri made this 1st experience very enjoyable, providing patient, helpful, and unrushed service; Linda's fun-&-friendly personality and humor made us feel welcome, comfortable, and like regulars! Eager to return (in which I'll make reservations) to comfortably sit at a table, to experience more of their menu items!

Yelp
Truly pizza was truly delicious!! My husband and I finally got the chance to eat here and it did NOT disappoint. We had reservations to celebrate my husband's birthday, the host was very kind getting us checked in and having our table ready. The restaurant is beautiful with an outdoor concept and lemons hanging from the ceiling. It transports you to Italy! Our server Linda was very sweet and took care of us the entire night. We brought our own bottle of wine and she reassured us about the $35 corkage fee. We really wanted to try the pull apart bread but I guess they were all out, so that was a little disappointing...next time. We ordered our pizzas and all the condiments they offer (chili oil, ranch, hot honey and tomato sauce). We ordered: Chanpion cheese, which is the cheese pizza they won #1 in the world. We also tried the Smokey Vodka, and added pepperoni which was the move! The pizzas were absolutely delicious - yes they are pricey BUT it does taste like a gourmet pizza. The sauce is savory, the crust is light and fluffy, and the pizzas are not greasy at all. We ended with a free ice cream dessert with Oreo cookies and fudge. It was a wonderful night and I look forward to coming back another time!

Yelp
We came to Truly Pizza after seeing a social media post that went viral -- and let's be honest, more often than not, those spots turn out to be overly hyped. But in this case, Truly Pizza was actually worth the buzz... though it did fall just a bit short of all the hype. The ambiance is beautiful -- cozy, stylish, and perfect for a relaxed night out. It's clear they've put thought into the details, and it definitely adds to the experience. The pizza was solid with quality ingredients and great crust, and while it didn't completely blow us away, it was still very enjoyable. The craft beer selection was a nice surprise too -- perfect pairing for a slice or two. Would I drive across town just to eat here again? Maybe not. But if I'm in the local area and looking for good pizza in a great atmosphere with a cold beer, I'd absolutely come back. A solid spot that mostly lives up to the hype.

Yelp
Came without reservation on a Saturday morning and got seated at the bar area with no wait. I would recommend getting reservations ahead of time after seeing how busy it gets. It is a cute spot inside, decorated with lemon trees. I got the garlic bread, house salad, and the sweet & spicy pizza (added pepperoni based on servers suggestion). Everything was good, I really enjoyed the pizza and the pepperoni added on. For drinks, I got the truly spritz, it was sweet and refreshing. The food was good but it is a bit pricey. The vibes is nice and love how it is dog friendly.

Yelp
Had to check this place out due to its rave reviews. These are gourmet pizzas that will not taste like your traditional pizzas. The flavor is pretty gnarly. Your tongue first tastes the tomato sauce followed by the cheese and soft crust. Then it finishes with a hint of salt and aioli at the end of the crust. It was amazing. Service was great and the location is fabulous close by the ocean. The wait times are pretty crazy and there is a 90 minute limit per table due to the popularity. There is a bar area that is first come first serve. Parking could also be an issue at peak hours. There are just two things that bugged me. They only have 8oz diet coke and charge $4. No refills. The pizza is amazing when its hot. When it gets cold, it goes from a 10 to a 7.
google avatar

Teagan T.

Yelp
Truly pizza requires truly reservations- they've got a sign posted at the hostess stand- during peak hours expect 1-2 hours wait. Without reservations it's really not worth coming here. We got lucky and early, the bar area was open and all you see is the pocket of servers hanging out with empty hands. Garlic pull apart bread was really good but it was also drenched in butter. Enough to drown a small family of flies and obviously incredibly addictive. Cooked/served in cast iron. Ask for the marinara sauce. Pizzas are loaded with ingredients. You get something different with each bite. Which when hungry is like seeing a mirage lost in the desert, in practice, taste and chew- I would stick with their regular pizza. Same with the vodka sauce pizza. The burrata was dripping quicker than I could finish taking a bite. I've had more peace eating an ice cream cone in the middle of July. Gorgeous decor and a wonderful destination for group gatherings.

Yelp
This a cute casual outdoor place to take the family, a date and or your pets. We tried: Umani mushroom Suprema Spagnola salad Wedge Calabrian chili oil Everything was very good!! The crust was amazing and adding on Calabrian chili oil (extra charge) made it even better! My favorite was the supreme pizza and wedge salad. You'll need to find street parking. It's a cute block to walk around as well as it's the heart of downtown Dana Point. Also, make reservations.

Yelp
If you eat in the restaurant or take it out to your own home, it is the most delicious pizza experience... we always get the extra pepperoni and I make my own hot honey to put on it even though they do have hot honey there... we just love their pizza
google avatar

Yelp
I grew up in a pizza family and have been in the pizza business for over 50 years. I even owned Evel Pie in Las Vegas--so I don't say this lightly: Truly Pizza has the best crust I've ever had. Airy, light, and award-winning for a reason--this dough is pure craftsmanship. Every bite is a reminder of how far pizza can go when it's made with love and technique. Dana Point is incredibly lucky to have a place like this in its backyard. It feels more like something you'd find on a hidden street in Naples or Sorrento, not Southern California. Big shoutout to Sergio for the warm hospitality--he surprised us with a classic tomato pie that was pure nostalgia, and the vanilla soft serve with sea salt and olive oil? Next level. Everything here is done with intention. I've had a lifetime of pizza, and this place still blew me away.

Yelp
My wife found this place on TikTok, was worried it would be overrated. Made a Saturday 12:45 reservation, Taylor was our server - she's the kind of server that makes the experience better and somehow even the food tastes better. We got the square cheese, subbed for vegan cheese for my wife; i was worried that my love for thin crust pizza would interfere -- but this pizza , as Taylor says is "crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside" -- what a delightful bite. Even the quince salad we got was superb and well-dressed. Highly recommend trying this place out, atleast once!
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Fantastic artisanal pizzas and an elevated beachy interior! We tried two pizzas, the La foresta round pizza and the sweet & spicy square pizza. The round pizzas have a crispy crust, while the square was thicker with more of a chew. Based on crust alone, I preferred the square, however the toppings on the la foresta were delicious, with sausage and a flavorful herb mushroom cream. We also tried the vanilla soft serve with olive oil and sea salt. The olive oil added a flavor that is not for everyone, but made the ice cream more complex and rich. The interior is beautiful with a staircase that leads to an upstairs dining area. I highly recommend you make a reservation, we did not and were only able to get the first come first serve bar/patio seating on a Friday at 5:30pm. Despite sitting outside, our waiter was still attentive and came outside to check on us frequently. I definitely would come back to try more of the pizzas!

Yelp
This place was so pretty. I loved the ambiance, it was very costal outdoor kitchen vibes! The staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu items and describing which was their favorite and why. Below is what we ordered. Appetizer Garlic pull apart bread: 7/10 Was good, but not the best I've had. I could have liked more garlic. Mains Vodka pizza: 8/10 Very good, the dough is so light and fluffy and the sprouts gave it a nice freshness. Cheese: 7/10 A classic, not the best I've had but very very good. I think I had my hopes too high since they said it was "the best pizza in the states" Dessert Soft serve: 8/10 So good. I think this was my favorite of the night just cause it was so simple yet so satisfying.

Yelp
Came in on a Wednesday morning with no wait ! Been hearing about this spot so had to try it out. The aesthetic and ambiance of this spot is too cute it's like you're transported into Italy with all of the lemon trees and greenery. Had the Mama Mia (recommended by the server) and their award winning cheese pizza. Both were so good. Their crust is the best part! Everything was super tasty and totaled up to about $52 for 2 pizzas. Definitely filling even with 4 people. I can't wait to come back and try more of their pizzas. You can tell they use such high quality ingredients and their service is impeccable!

Yelp
Omgosh! We drove over 40 minutes for this pizza...and it was beyond worth the drive! We started with their wedge salad and it was sweet with the dates and savory with the salty cheese. We then moved onto their award winning cheese pizza! It's easy to see why they held the world record - the ingredients are some of the freshest we've had so far in LA. The crust was crunchy and you can see flaky bubbles in it from being cooked. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRULY PIZZA! My only regret is we stayed too far away to come back this trip.

Yelp
A Slice of Italy Right at Home in Dana Point From the moment you walk in, you feel transported--lemons hanging overhead (albeit fake ones, but very pretty), a gorgeous terrace, and a breezy Amalfi Coast vibe. It's a completely different experience than other local pizza spots, and that's what makes it so special. The pizzas are excellent--crispy, flavorful crust and incredibly fresh, vibrant toppings. I personally prefer the round pizzas, but that's just my taste; everything we've tried has been top-notch. We sipped on a Truly Spritz (prosecco, lemon, and basil) and it sealed the Italian experience. The salads are fresh and full of flavor with great dressings. We love the Truly White pizza, but this time we tried the monthly special Bella Donna pizza. It had bright fresh vegetables and was and topped with lemon zest, it was a perfect match for the setting on a hot June day. For dessert, get a soft serve topped with pistachios and sea salt with an olive oil drizzle. Don't knock it 'till you try it. Reservations can be tough to get, so you might need to put your name down and wait (usually an hour or more)--but I would say it's worth it. Whether you're a local or visiting Dana Point, Truly Pizza is a must for anyone who loves great pizza and salads in a beautiful setting.

Yelp
I haven't been to the restaurant yet... Although I live close by and drive by them often... I can't wait to dine in because it's so stinking cute! We ordered out, because we felt like pizza but didn't feel like leaving the house. In addition to a gluten intolerance, I have other food sensitivities, so I called ahead to see what was in their gluten-free crust, and they were so kind and read me every single ingredient! Service 10/10 GF pizza toppings: 10/10 GF pizza crust: 6/10 I've been so spoiled with gluten free crust that I have super high expectations. This crust wasn't amazing- but I'd definitely come back again since the service was great- the ingredients are more clean than most other places, and the restaurant is so cute! Husband had the regular crust, Cheese pizza & added arugula and prosciutto. He liked it. Ate the whole thing! Said the same thing- that the ingredients were super fresh, and he could taste the quality of the pizza for sure.

Yelp
Truly has THE BEST pizza in Orange County. Can't believe I haven't been before. We went on a weekday for lunch so it was fairly easy to find parking. Not sure what the situation is on weekends. Their wedge salad was delicious, yet so simple. We ordered 3 pizzas for our table and I loved all of them. Our server was attentive and prompt, after we told him we were in a hurry. Love that they have heaters and blankets. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
10/10 - so freaking good and so cute!! Absolutely would come back and I recommend snagging a reservation because it gets super packed and sometimes can't seat walk ins. The aesthetic took me back to Italy, it was soooo cute! The food was amazing and so fresh. The garlic pull apart bread was perfection wit h actual pieces of garlic and I don't usually like pieces of garlic but this was so good. The pizzas were crispy, warm & cheesy!! Between 3 of us we had a good amount of leftover food but it was so filling. It was all so flavorful and the perfect pizza. The olive oil & dates soft serve was delicious & perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Yelp
Truly Pizza is absolutely worth the long drive from LA. Tucked away in Dana Point, it's a hidden gem serving some of the best pizza I've had in Southern California. You'll want to make a reservation, especially on weekends. This place gets packed, and walk-ins might not get seated at all. There's no dedicated parking lot, but I had no trouble finding street parking nearby. Now, the pizza: You can't go wrong with a square pizza and a classic round. I highly recommend the smoky vodka pizza with added pepperoni. It's unforgettable. Every pie here has that perfect trifecta of crispy, crunchy, and fluffy. Total texture heaven. Do NOT skip the ranch. It's house-made and dangerously good. I'd buy it by the bucket if they let me. If you're getting wings, go with the original flavor. I'd skip the buffalo dry rub. It just didn't hit the same way. And for salads, I'd pass on the wedge (way too much creamy dressing) and go with the house salad instead, since it's lighter with a vinaigrette dressing and a much better pairing with the pizza. Service was efficient and friendly, but be patient. Pizzas take a little time to come out, and they're worth the wait. And if you don't snag a table, don't stress! Dana Point is gorgeous. Grab everything to go and have yourself a beach picnic. Truly Pizza is one of those rare spots where the hype is real and the flavors are totally memorable. 100% worth the drive.

Yelp
LOVE the ambiance. Got voted one of the best pizzas around and I can see why. The deep dish pizzas are baked perfectly offering a nice chew and crunch. The harissa honey wings are tasty but need more sauce as it was a little dry. Service was quick and attentive. However, my only grip was when they suggested dipping sauces and did not notify us of a charge until we received the bill. For pizzas that cost $20-$30, just give free ranch and hot honey. We had a large group and they brought out several sauces for the table which equated to one nice alcoholic drink. Please be transparent next time!

Yelp
We had to stop in after seeing so many glowing reviews. There were no reservations available, but takeout was an option with a 100-minute wait. We ordered anyway and were so glad we did. Absolutely worth the wait. The classic pepperoni was light, airy, and cooked to perfection. The crust was incredible, and the ingredients were super fresh. Can't wait to come back and try more of their delicious pizzas.

Yelp
Simply divine pizzas and salads. - It would be nice to have a custom option - Pick your crust and toppings for an even better experience I also got the YUZU lemonade. It was robust / strong in flavor. I diluted it with some cold water. Service was a touch lackluster. Sometimes I had to ask 3x to get the wait staff to bring us what was needed. It is dining al fresco, bring a jacket. But the place was poppin! 2nd floor is a little warmer.

Yelp
Obviously the food was amazing--. let's get that out of the way. The ambience was relaxing. The service was friendly. I have no complaints other than I ate too much (I couldn't help myself!). If you don't eat too much, did you really eat at Truly??? My favorite actually was the butter lettuce salad and lemon dressing paired with a side of fries and prosecco! Yes, the pizza was wonderful and we left happily bloated!

Yelp
Was so excited to try the worlds champion pizza of 2024, however was suprising disappointed. Maybe my expectations were set too high. The pizza itself is good, alittle bit above average. The crust is absolutely atrocious, it's so tough. Feels like a workout just to chew through it. The garlic pull apart bread was pretty good.

Yelp
Saw this place on TikTok and had to check it out -- so glad I did! My boyfriend and I shared a pizza and got the garlic bread, which might honestly be the best I've ever had. We didn't eat there, but the inside looked super cute. Took our food to Salt Creek Beach and it made for the perfect takeout dinner date. Definitely coming back to dine in and try more of the menu!

Yelp
Ordered the Spagnola salad and sweet and spicy pizza. Salad was good and plenty for two to share, so was the pizza. Not sure I believe the hype though. $27 for a mediumish sized pizza is a bit steep, you're definitely paying for the location. It was crowded and cold, not enough heaters and we were seated at a small counter just outside the kitchen. Chairs could have been more comfortable. Server Kendall was awesome. Street parking and come early so you don't have to wait.

Yelp
Try to make a reservation or prepare to wait awhile but trust me, it's worth it! Courtney, our server, was fantastic! She made great recommendations. The Dana Point Wedge was excellent! Fresh, crisp and crunchy and full of flavor. The Suprema pizza was just as good! Loved the crust!! They didn't skimp on the toppings either! The Truly Spritz was SO good. Loved the lemon zest- definitely get this if you love lemon!

Yelp
It was good, above average. The pizza crust is very good. I also got a sandwich that was ok. Not enough meat for the price. I hate when you get to the end of the sandwich and the meat is gone, that's what happened with this sandwich. The service needed some work. The waiter was nice but he went on a break and the people covering for him disappeared. We had to ask the hostess for our check.

Yelp
Whoaaaa! We had heard of Truly and once we finally made the reservations, the experience did not disappoint! A gorgeous two story, indoor/outdoor setting with views of the coastline and backdrop mountains this is the perfect setting for anything from your special event, intimate date, or family dinner. The aesthetic made us feel like we were back on the Amalfi coast with lemons everywhere. The pizza was what we came for and in categories of square and rounds with different styles of crust - it did not disappoint. We always save room for dessert and thought the tiramisu was exceptional with a unique touch of orange. Our server was fun to talk to and share about our love of pizza and good food. A perfect night!

Yelp
What an awesome experience. Wait time wasn't bad after seeing there was a bit of a line. The pull apart garlic bread was very good. The pizza is excellent! There 3 of us. We got 1 round and 1 square. The round we got pepperoni and the square a specialty with ricotta and pesto and roasted tomatoes. It was such an awesome combination. The pesto was not too heavy, it was just enough. I will definitely be back when I am in town again. The service was great also. Very attentive and happy, personable waitress. All staff was professional and they run a tight ship here. Very organized. I highly recommend Truly Pizza.

Yelp
Absolutely love truly pizza!!! I prefer thick pizza with a lot of toppings so this was perfect! We got the smoky vodka to go. The burrata was melted and so soft!! All the flavors combined complemented each other really well. I'd pass on the wings... We came 30 min before closing and they still took our order to go- even though it takes ~30 min to cook the pizza. The restaurant itself is very upscale, the decor is nice, and there's a swirly stairway that leads to the second floor. I'll definitely want to dine in next time!

Yelp
Truly the best!! No pun intended. Wow wow wow. I came here on a Saturday night and thankfully we had reservations. The ambiance is beautiful outdoor seating and I love that they have heaters and even offer blankets which I needed because it was a chilly evening. Our server Jen was a sweetheart and offered us some great recommendations. We started off with their garlic bread this is an absolute must, sooo soft, so garlicky and so flavorful. 10/10 We also got the pepperoni pizza and the truly pizza which our server recommend half garlic and mushroom omg so so go gooood!!! Their pizza was absolutely delicious and I definitely would come back again and try their other items. One thing that I did notice is the staff they all were very kind from the hostess to the servers, you can tell they all enjoy working here. Great food, great ambience, highly recommend!

Yelp
What TRULY amazing dining experience. This restaurant is perfect for a day date. Fresh air, shining sun, beautiful ambience, and delicious pizza! If opentable says reservations are full, fear not. We called in and were able to get a table no problem. We ordered the Spagnola salad, Champion cheese round pizza, and the Smoky vodka square pizza. Everything was a 10/10. We were even surprised at how much we liked the champion cheese (we had to find out how a cheese pizza could win a medal). Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Very aesthetically pleasing, gives the vibe of eating in a restaurant on the amalfi coast in Italy. We got seated on the second floor which I adored because we had a nice view. We tried the charcuterie board that was called the picnic plate, mama Mia and suprema. It was my first time here & it was great to have the server guide us through the dough process understanding the difference between regular dough. The pizza we ordered had very light bread and texture which helped not be too greasy!

Yelp
Bumpin atmosphere. I expected more from 42nd best ranked in the USA 2024. Not for me. There's better pizza in Dana Point TBH. My expectations were too damn high. Great business. Great staff. Great location. Great for tourists looking for that OC California vibe

Yelp
this pizza spot is truly one of the best!!! haha get it, truly??? ok sorry anyways, all the options on the menu sounded so amazing but we ended up getting one of the circle pizzas and one of the square pizzas for balance!! we chose the la foresta, which is like a mushroom ricotta pizza. it was so savory and indulgent! it was my favorite flavor of the night for sure. we also got the sweet & spicy which has hot honey and soppressata! I loved the dough on the square pizza bc it was thicker and fluffier! I love a good bite to my pizza bread For dessert, I really wanted to try the olive oil trend on ice cream. it was my first time and I actually really enjoyed the flavor combination!! going to be seeking this out every chance I get now We sat outside and our server was really accommodating to our needs! also very attentive! Although we sat outside, it still was pretty nice and scenic! It wasn't too loud or anything, the foot traffic and cars driving are minimal and not too distracting I would love to come back here! I really want to explore the other options on the menu :)

Yelp
Back again just to say what a wonderful experience this is every time we dine here. It's the only place I'd battle Mother's Day crowds to eat out at, and it did not disappoint. It was busy, as always, but the staff remain so friendly and helpful. The Mother's Day prosecco was such a sweet touch! Our server Taylor was a standout for her knowledge, sense of calm, and warmth. The Dana Point Wedge was so delicious, as were the pizzas. This place is my #1 favorite!

Yelp
Truly pizza TRULY lives up to the hype () We saw this place trending online and decided to drive over to see what's up and weren't disappointed! The wait was around an hour for 2 people on a Saturday afternoon, but it didn't feel long at all since the surrounding area is really nice to walk around! It also seemed like a majority of people eating there had a reservation, so if you're in a group it seems like that's the move. Parking was also a breeze! We got the round pepperoni pizza and garlic bread and both were amazing. Next time we'll try the square pizzas!
