Truly's

Truly's is a small ice cream shop in the heart of Wellesley, open into later hours of the night. We came about an hour before closing, and there was many people still there ordering ice cream, and this was on a cold day as well so we knew that this should be good. They offer a selection of seasonal flavors, in froyo, hard scoop, or soft serve varieties. We got a milkshake and the blueberry pie flavors. The blueberry flavor was good, a lil sweet but not overly sweet. The milkshake was of the thicker variety, but not overly thick. The price was good for the portion, and we were satisfied, though we did need lactaid pills so maybe watch out if you're lactose intolerant.

Delicious Ice Cream + Great service. On street parking only. The place is compact but clean. The employees are always nice. Got in the line and it went quick. They take credit/debit. It is accessible and they do have a bathroom if you are looking for one. Lota of flavors to choose from and the prices are super reasonable. They have a community bulletin board so check that out. It’s really good ice cream.

The ice cream is delicious and the price is reasonable. The location is perfect when you are in the area for other activities. Noted that other reviews have mentioned/complained about their service and attitude, it’s some of their staff, not all. So suggestion is that wait/observe and let the right person take your order.

When the line is down the street on a 50 degree day, you know it’s got to be good! This ice cream shop tucked away off the main drag has a wide selection of ice cream packed with all the goodies you would expect. The tollhouse, their version of cookie dough, has large chunks of dough and rich creamy ice cream. The Reese’s has full peanut butter cups packed in each scoop. If you have the time to wait in line, you won’t be disappointed.

TERRIBLE NEW OWNERS - RACIST As a Wellesley native, I grew up on Truly's. It was a staple in my childhood – warm, welcoming, and always buzzing with neighborhood charm. Gary, the previous owner, brought a kind of magic to the place that made it feel like home. So when I recently visited from NYC and took my mom out for a nostalgic trip to Truly's, I was genuinely excited. Sadly, the experience was nothing short of upsetting. We ordered a kiddie twist and a raspberry mini, and while they accidentally gave us the wrong size for the raspberry, I didn’t mind – honest mistakes happen. But what really rubbed me the wrong way was the treatment my mom received from the new owner, a member of the Marcus family (pictured below - the man in the hat - found online), who rang us up. After my mom paid and we turned to walk away, he pointedly motioned at the tip screen – as if to shame her for not tipping. Let’s be clear: this is a counter-service ice cream shop, not a sit-down restaurant. Tipping isn’t required, especially when the service is curt and impersonal. His reaction? He made a rude face, muttered something to the cashier next to him, and scoffed – loud enough for us to hear. I’ve worked in customer service. I understand the grind. But this was flat-out disrespectful – especially towards a loyal local returning to a once-beloved neighborhood spot. As a person of color in a predominantly white town, I couldn’t help but wonder if the treatment we received was about more than just tips. It’s devastating to see how far Truly's has fallen from its community-centered roots. What was once a friendly, joyful place now feels cold, transactional, and frankly, unwelcoming. This is not the Truly's I grew up loving.

Another delightful outing to Truly's. It's my go to ice cream shop, but it's especially wonderful when I am able to take out of town guests. I recently came in with my family and our guests (7 of us to be exact), and of course, the line is out of the shop and down the street. Don't be afraid reading this, it moves FAST. The young woman helping us took great care to make sure she got our order right, answered questions our guests had, and was efficient. Time and time again, this shop always impresses us. The employees and owners are very kind and make their customers feel appreciated. Thanks Truly's!

Hands down, the best ice cream cake we’ve had! Every bite was perfection - rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. The layers were beautifully balanced, with the perfect ratio of ice cream, ice cream and more ice cream including that irresistible fudge and cookie crunch. You can tell everything is made with high-quality ingredients and a whole lot of love! The girls were obsessed and already asking when we can get another one. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself, this place is the go-to spot in Wellesley for the most delicious ice cream treats. Absolutely five stars!

One of the best ice cream places I have been to. The atmosphere is fun, the ice cream is delicious and the price is so fair. The kiddie size is huge, as you can see from the pictures, and it's only $5. The staff working is also nice and patient. Truly's is much better than other popular Boston ice cream places like JP Licks.

The ice cream champs! We always find an excuse to come here whenever we're remotely close to Wellesley. They have very big portions of high quality ice cream, froyo, and FoMu to very inexpensive prices. You usually only find 2 out of 3 of those things. To have all three gets them the crown. It's always a little tight because it's a small space, and they do great business. But it's worth it. Don't be upset if they run out of the flavors advertised by the end of the night. You should have come earlier and this the price of being loved and well-traversed.

TRULY Amazing!! They continue to expand in their new space with more products and will be opening a new event space at some point. Very friendly staff!

Prefect ice cream spot! They have a ton of soft serve favors - the day we went they had a cookie/oreo flavor in addition to the classic chocolate vanilla or twist (The menu is always changing) I got classic vanilla soft serve because I was in the mood for a classic and it really hit the spot. They have some tables inside, and lots of outdoor seating. Will be back again!

Loveee the icecream it is my favorite spot in the area! I recommend the chocolate soft serve. The portions are amazing given the price! I also recommend the campfire s'more flavor

I'm weak for trulys. Me and my friends always try to make an excuse to come. THE SOFT SERVE IS PERFECT!!. Service is so quick. Ambiance is fast, not really any seating inside but most people eat their ice cream in their car or the outside tables:)

Trulys is amazing!!! They have such an great selection of ice cream, yogurt, and soft serve. The ice cream is high quality and so delicious. The prices are also surprisingly fair. Between 5 people we got 4 minis and 2 kiddies and it was $19 and more than enough ice cream! The blueberry pie flavor and the black raspberry yogurt were 10/10.

Trulys is my favorite ice cream spot in Wellesley! Their soft serve is the best and they have a rotating daily special flavor which I love. They have a wide selection of ice cream flavors as well. They even have flurries, sundays, frappes, and more. The indoor seating is super cute-they just redid the store and it looks great. The employees are also super friendly. They give huge portions I got a kiddie and it was giant! Definitely come here if you're in the mood for some ice cream!

Excellent soft serve ice cream better than Dairy Queen. The other regular ice cream all excellent, prices reasonable under today's Biden inflation. Next time is a sundae on agenda ... clearly the go to on Wellesley for ice cream.

Manager was very disrespectful towards employees whole serving minor scoops. My family and I used to go to Trulys and enjoy a great environment with huge nice scoops. This is no longer the case. I do not recommend eating here.

The other day I came into trulys excited for my small cup. I walked in and the manager behind the counter was treating the fellow employes horribly, he seemed to have some sort of anger issue. The overall experience could have been better the ice cream was good as always but the vibe of the establishment was very off after that initial reaction. Could have had a better experience.

Great ice cream! Be warned, tho and order a small!!! Neither of us could finish our cups. And trust me, we tried!

i absolutely looove truly's. whether it's ice cream, froyo, or soft serve, they've got a variety of flavors, and their food is delicious. i got the kiddie green monster (mint oreo) and it was fantastic. their portions are extremely generous. the kiddie is two scoops, and it was the perfect amount for my boyfriend and i to share. the prices are reasonable; kiddie was $4.50. service is excellent. we were greeted by smiles and people who were willing to help. there's three small tables for seating, but not that much space overall. i highly recommend truly's, and i definitely want to try out their ice cream cakes next time! overall rating: 10/10

Meh meh meh My coffee frappe had no coffee flavor and was a weird lumpy consistency. The vanilla soft serve had no flavor. On the plus size - the kiddie cone was huge. After the fact I found out they also have a mini, which is smaller than a kiddie. I'll stick to JP licks around the corner.

I went to Truly's to reward myself for helping a family member move. I usually find Yelp reviews accurate, but in this case, I am puzzled why people recommend this ice cream. The staff is very nice and patient, but my soft serve twist ice cream hardly had any flavor, neither chocolate, nor vanilla. The wall sign said FOMU, so I asked the young man serving me what that meant. He said the soft serve was dairy, but now I am wondering what it is. I had a funny aftertaste in my mouth on my way home and was wondering if I had lost my taste buds, so when I got home I tried some ice cream in my freezer to see if my taste buds were working, and I could taste the store bought ice cream perfectly. I looked at the pistachio ice cream in the freezer case of Truly's and it was a bright green, so it must have food coloring in it. I prefer Abbott's in Needham to Truly's soft serve. I prefer ice cream that is made with all natural ingredients, not artificial ingredients.

The children that they employ are more focused on socializing than making the right ice cream. My shit came out cooked. Then they fucked up my girlfriend's order and then charged us for two larges. Owner is talking bout her day or someshit literally no one asks Lesley. Its whatever doh I'm realizing im bitching over ice cream and leaving a yelp review. Why did you guys do this 2 me. This place had multiple dairy free options in ice cream and sorbet - delicious! There is usually only 1-2 flavor options, so I was a happy person. They also had delicious baked goods. I highly recommend this place.

The ice cream here is always fabulous. I love the twist soft serve! I also enjoy the cookie D lite. So yummy! The staff is always so welcoming and the portions are very generous.

This is a local favorite for anyone who lives in Wellesley or surrounding towns. They give large portions, the ice cream is authentic, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Kiddie - $3.50 and it goes up a dollar from there for each increasing size. If you're someone who doesn't like overly sweet things like me, I wouldn't get the mocha chip or anything with chips or chocolates in them. There isn't much to say about this place cuz it's a very solid place. I highly recommend if you've never been and are passing by the area!

If you're a sucker for soft serve ice cream in the Greater Boston area, Truly's is your go-to place! I used to come here all of the time in college. I absolutely LOVE the cotton candy flavor burst. I've also tried different flavors (and some hard ice cream), but I can't get enough of the cotton candy. Since my last visit in May 2019, Truly's has upgraded from cash-only to contactless payment options. During COVID, only one party is allowed inside at a time. Props to the Truly's team for making ice cream a safe and tasty treat all year round!

I have been going to Truly's for a long time and like their products. However I was absolutely thrilled when I found out they were expanding/adding Peets Coffee! It took a long time to open the new store but they finally did it and the space is nice! 2 months later.....I am super disappointed. One might think telling everyone you're going to be serving coffee that they would be open before 12PM? Why add a coffee shop and not open early? They also have great looking pastries but after getting a treat they tasted at least a few hours old. Such a shame...everyone was so excited.

Was wandering around the downtown area on a hot day COVID era and stopped here! Solid safety protocol, waiting spots outside and only two people in at a time - SOLID. Got a kiddie (two big boy scoops) of the coffee heath yogurt in a cup with jimmies. I think I paid around $3-4 which was worth it as this was one of the best coffee heath I've had. Thicc, long pieces of both dark chocolate and heath, but not too much, a perfect ratio of ice cream to topping. SOLID. My friend got black raspberry ice cream (hard serve) and the worker offered a black raspberry soft serve swirl to top it. Good people here, good S'CREAM.

Worst customer service. I spent over $100 this week on ice cream (and left tips) and was denied a small cup of sprinkles as I forgot my wallet at home. I have been going to Trulys for as long as I can remember and miss the old owner Gary. A great guy and knew the importance of good customer service.

I ordered $20 of items and was told I was unable to use a $20 gift card purchased in 2019 due to a change in ownership. If you are the new owner of Truly's and have implemented this policy, shame on you for not being inclusive to a customer base that has been frequenting Truly's well before you took ownership. Any gift card purchased before your ownership should be accepted, it's called doing the right thing and not being a stickler. Ice cream is okay, but won't be back based on a bogus policy, Ron's in Dedham is much better and homemade. Based on the ownership change being October 2019 and my gift card being authorized in Nov 2019, it makes it even more frustrating and confusing as to why it was not accepted.

It used to be great but unfortunately the new owners are not interested in making their ice cream allergy friendly.

Update: Prices have DEFINITELY risen and portions have shrunk. One of the things folks have loved about Truly's over many years is how generous the portions always were (the previous owner even stated that fact in one of the articles about the place that used to hang on the wall in there). Now, you literally have to order a large to get what used to be a small - and pay a good percentage more for that amount. Owners, maybe a price hike should have come first and then, down the line, you could start shrinking the sizes, but both at once is bewildering.

I really enjoyed my experience here. The ice cream was very good. The line was a bit long but the service was nice and the area was cheery.

Two of my boys went to Truly Yogurt on Tuesday with my friend. One of the boy (7 years old) bought an ice cream for 3 dollars. He paid with a 10 dollar bill and the cashier only returned him 3 dollars change incorrectly. I believe this is an accident and not intentional. However, my point is it would be better that cashiers could pay more attentions when they give change to young children.

Huge portions for great prices. A small is 3 scoops and only for $6!! I got the cake batter, phantomberry, and crunch a saurus. The crunch a saurus was my favorite. The phantomberry was not for me because the chocolate tasted bitter. But this place is amazing!!

A big thank you to Trulys for catering another High School Ice cream Party! Their manager Karly delivered pre scooped ice creams with spoons, napkins and toppings. They offered lemon and raspberry sorbets for our Dairy Free guests. I would highly recommend Trulys for your next party or school event!

Truly's is TRULY FANTASTIC!! Its ice cream is incredibly delicious! You are always greeted by a friendly, smiling server as you enter the store--often by the owner or one of his dedicated managers! Its soft serve yogurt has at least three daily flavors, plus a special Flavor of the Day. Its hard ice cream is rich and creamy with a wide variety of flavors and its hard yogurt is very tasty, too, yet is lower in calories! Best of all, the cost of each is much more reasonable than that of many other comparable shops! I highly recommend TRULY'S as THE PLACE TO GO for a special treat!!!

Amazing. I got the vanilla chocolate twist- so creamy and amazing swirl! I had such a sweet, cute server! I think her name was Athena. 100% recommended this ice cream shop if you are in town!

I was craving soft serve and this place definitely fulfilled my craving! Nothing better than ice cream on a cold winter day when you don't have to worry about anything melting so quickly. I came on a Saturday night and was so excited to try their soft serve with cotton candy blast, but unfortunately, they are no longer serving cotton candy :(, so instead, I got birthday cake blast. This soft serve is an upgrade of McDonald's and they packed so much the lid didn't even close properly. It's smooth, it's tasty, not too creamy, but has a perfect consistency. The birthday cake blast was good, a bit sweet, but not the same expectation I had since I wanted to try their cotton candy flavor. It looks like the blast flavor is mixed it well on the outside, but the flavor dissipates as you eat towards the middle. They were also out of their raspberry sorbet, so instead tried their lemon sorbet which was tart and tasted like Italian ice. I'll definitely be back one day to try out their other flavors of ice cream!

The ice cream is the same as it's been but the portions are smaller and the vibe has completely changed since Gary sold the place. They are more of a JP-Licks now, and less of a family store. They'll say they've been a family business for 30 years but it's recently changed ownership and is now more of a chain vibe.

Truly terrible. Soft serve was meh. Ordered 2 dry toppings and got the tiniest servings of both. What I didn't realize was each topping was $1.25 because the prices were not listed. One of the toppings -- chocolate chips -- were really old and stale. Dried out texture and perfumey taste, like they were dug out of the bottom of grandma's purse. I just felt a bad vibe in general. Expensive and poor quality.

My Son and I went yesterday..the new place is nice but wished they kept it the way it was originally. Now it looks like a coffee shop. I don't know if my taste buds are off but their soft serve frozen yogurt is pretty flavorless. I could barely taste the chocolate or vanilla..very watery! Their prices have gone up and their check out time is longer with those new credit card machines. We definitely miss the old Truly's and it was more flavor packed! Hopefully they fix that!!

We are frequent flyers at Trudy's for many years. We alway have great service. They are patient with all their patrons. It is a family favorite all year long. YummyThank you Truly's!!!

One of my favorite local spots, the cozy intimate setup makes you feel right at home They've get any flavor you might want for, they have the most fire homemade creations and whether its a milkshake or a classic sunday, they gotchu covered

Very good ice cream! Definitely recommend trying it out! This place is probably in my top 5 for vanilla soft serve! I wanted to try the Cookie D Lite soft serve but they were all out which kind of sucked. However, when you check in for the first time you get free sprinkles with you purchase and I love sprinkles! A downside to this business is the smell outside of the shop. The shop is too small for people to eat inside so you are forced to eat outside or in your car. However, when you go outside, there is a rancid fish sauce smell that is super super strong and I'm pretty sure it's from the Thai restaurant next door. I had to walk down the street to eat my ice cream because the smell was so strong and I just couldn't enjoy my ice cream surrounded by it. It's a shame, the shop is super nice and friendly but the smell is absolutely horrible.

I used to love this ice cream shop but sadly new owner is not willing to accommodate allergies safely. Spoke with him about it and it sounds like he is just not interested - said it is too time consuming. It's a shame as I've never had that experience before at even the busiest of ice cream shops! Missing Gary who was always willing to do it!

Look no further. This is the ice cream, frozen yogurt, soft serve shop to go to! Cash or check only, but the variety of flavors is extensive for both ice cream and frozen yogurt. Each day has a different soft serve flavor like caramel latte or coffee oreo in addition to the regular soft serve flavors. Truly's is VERY generous with their portions - a small elsewhere is equivalent to (if not smaller than) a kiddie size here!! Kiddie only costs $3. My favorite flavors so far are mint chocolate chip frozen yogurt and lemon sorbet - one for sweet, one for refreshing!

This place is truly amazing, divine, yummy ext... Truly's Yogurt have great prices, gigantic scoops & wonderful customer service! Try it for yourself and you won't regret it.

I hate to badmouth a local shop, especially one I hold so near to my heart, but something must be said! Do not come here unless you are willing to risk your health! Ever since Gary left, things have been going downhill fast. Where do I even begin? I visited the shop for the first time this week since the COVID outbreak and it is clear that the new manager has no idea what is going on. The service was slower than it ever has been, and it seemed this woman knew less than the kids did. Then, this morning a friend of the family told me he tested positive for COVID after having visited the shop on opening day, and said that when he called and told the manager that he tested positive she did not reassure him in any regard that she would take extra precautions! She did not even express sympathy! I'm taking my grandkids elsewhere from now on. Although it's delicious ice cream, it's just not worth the risk!

Truly Yogurt is a wonderful ice cream place. It sells Robertson's ice cream which is possibly the most delicious commercially available ice cream of which I am aware. Their portions are huge, which gives a sense of generosity. The staff are extremely helpful and courteous - something which I cannot take for granted at similar establishments. Their chocolate fudge is rich and delicious. They add a large amount and as a chocolate connoisseur I very much appreciate it. The staff were quite patient with me as I had many questions because it was my first time. They have so many flavors including unusual soft serve flavors that they rotate each day. They are the only place I have ever seen that sells black raspberry swift serve. They have multiple version of some flavours with and without brownie bits for example. They unfortunately only accept cash. And beware of hitting your legs on a piece of painted wood next yo the high top chairs. The clientele was respectful and well behaved - again something I would not expect on a Saturday night. If you don't want to go to a mass market place and want a one of a kind experience that gives you a taste of the town, you will probably love Truly Yogurt.

Yummy ice cream. Great variety and outstanding customer service, I now know why the line is always so long!
