Absolutely adorable, fun atmosphere! The decor was honestly perfect for the vibe they're going for. We got bottle service for NYE, and while the entire night was amazing, there were a few mildly annoying things that could have been better. I don't think they were understaffed per se since New Year's is going to just be a bit more crazy regardless, but they would've benefited from having more people. Our waitress/bartender wasn't available to come to our section as often as we needed to keep ordering as we wanted. There wasn't anyone available to help with crowd control within our section and ended up having to do it ourselves all night, which, while entertaining sometimes, was something that created conflict with other customers and was a frustrating distraction to our experience. Overall, it was a great and fun experience but dampened by mildly, less-than-ideal service on one of the busiest nights of the year for the bar industry.

Decor was perfect, drinks very pricey but thats just about any bar. 300 dollar minimum to reserve a table and if you sat at a table and it was reserved you got kicked out i feel like they need a vip section for those who reserve tables and to leave the others open for all to use. Seating was limited to only the tables that could be reserved. Next this is a speak easy in the only sense that you have to know the password to enter. Music does not fit the speak easy vibe at all. I was expecting true speak easy from the 1920s era. I was expecting a true gin joint. Guys and dolls situation. Jazz band dance floor with people swing dancing maybe even someone there teaching swing dance lessons. The staff wasn't dressed according to the era which for me would have given it that cherry on top. Also if people would have used 1920 slang like bruno for the security guys, or dame for woman. I would have preffered a more true speak easy to the 1920s. It's a historical era that celebrated women being able to finally vote, dating as singles without chaperones became a thing, women started to find their voice. It was also the time of the Harlem Renaissance when black musicians writers and singers started to gain notoriety. Why are these not things celebrated at a "speak easy" in the modern era?

Fun speak easy with great music, great drinks and a cool atmosphere. It all starts with knowing the weekly password. You can find that on the club's FB page. Once behind the candy wall, you walk into a very nicely decorated cocktail lounge. The music is a mix of hip hop, old school hip hop and will have even the non dancers movin. They have a cool cocktail menu that comes nicely lit with an LED and makes picking your cocktail or other drink choices easy to see. Stop in to this cocktail lounge, order a drink and enjoy one of Deep Ellum's best spots!

Oh.. What a night It was. The Music The folks The service guys the drinks the craziness the insane laughter and friends. Oh it is a superb place to go with Friends. But they have certain rules I guess. Either go with Grls or reserve table on prior.

Must know secret password to get in enough the candy shop. Once you get in, there's a large bar and a small bar. It feels like a VAMPIRE's LAIR which is super intimate and music is popping. Fog machines and dark atmosphere. Fun place to be but can get hectic later at night. Parking is free if you find the right places, otherwise expect to pay and walk a short distance.

If you've never been here then you can skip it. The drinks aren't very interesting for a cocktail bar and the ingredients aren't the highest quality. The furniture and the bathroom were filthy. The mugshots room near the exit was pretty cool but that's not saying much.

Good music, good crowd. Gets a little crowded as the night goes on. And if you show up with a group of guys with no girls they won't let you in unless u get a table

Love this place. I would have never known about it had I not followed some people. The energy was great. The music was great. The drinks were average for being deep ellum. Esthetics inside were nice. The couches did have lots of tears in them but it's dark so who cared. The security was alert and active so that's great. There's a general space and then a smaller room which has a smaller bar area. I'm pretty sure they don't serve food here.

Just another overpriced nightclub in Deep Ellum. I was told to check it out because it was a speakeasy, but they couldn't even get that right. The candy store front had three large bouncers in it demanding a password. The decor was neat, and Peach's Blossom was a tasty beverage, everything else about it was horrible. The service, the music, the patrons. If you want a true speakeasy experience go downtown to the Statler (Bourbon and Banter) or the Joule (Midnight Rambler). This place was college town nightclub and bar with a password.

Great ambiance. Love the password theme at the candy store prior to walking in. Drinks were usual but music was perfect (hip hop,r&b, top 40s)

Tish was freaking awesome. She took really good care of us on my sisters bday. Tish made it a really good experience for us first timers and we would definitely come back and hopefully we can get Tish again. Great experience and lots of fun. See ya so

I recently hosted my husband's 50th Birthday Celebration at Truth & Alibi and it was a blast. The staff was so helpful and went out of their way to make the night memorable. Plus the holiday decorations were amazing. Oh and the DJ was off the hook! Would recommend T&A to anyone looking for a unique space and great cocktails! Such a fun night!!!

After being in this speakeasy for less than 90 seconds, the manager attempted to arrest us for using the incorrect restroom in the bar (woman in men's restroom). The restrooms are labeled with photos of animals and not actual genders. It was very easy to assume they had gender neutral restrooms. The manager barged in on the woman in the stall and attempted to remove me from the urinal (midstream). He said he notified DPD that we entered the restroom together and they were on standby to take us into custody. Once he realized we were not drunk or incoherent, he offered no apology, told the police to stand down. We left immediately.

Was told about this speakeasy for the last year and finally got a chance to visit. I give it 3 stars because man was it crowded especially for a speakeasy. We couldn't even grab a drink it was so packed. I plan to go back one day due to the high recommendations but the first time definitely didn't live up to the hype

I'm sad to say that the only thing that is close to speakeasy about Truth & Alibi is the fake candy store out front. Unfortunately, once you pass through the doors, it turns into a club atmosphere. Loud pop music blasting from the speakers. Classic speakeasy cocktails (including some listed on their menu) that can't be made because they're out of key ingredients (we came on a Saturday evening around 10pm). Smoke machines and strobe lights. This place is excellent potential but, sadly, is trying to be something it is not. I must give credit to our excellent cocktail waitress was the only reason that I gave Truth & Alibi an extra star. She was fantastic and did the best she could given the atmosphere and situation she was in.

This place was so fun and the staff was AMAZING! We had bottle service for 17 and they were so helpful, kind and professional. Waitress and manager consistently checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and that our bride was enjoying herself. 1000/10 recommend this for a fun group celebration!

My group gave the right password, we just had the wrong skin color. The negative Yelp reviews about Truth & Alibi are very accurate. I recently took my fiancé and her friends out for a good time (not a long time ). Speaking of "not a long time", this is the exact time frame we stood in line after being told "a ratio needs to be met before I can let y'all in." I asked what ratio and referred to guys/girls, boots/loafers, race?! The bouncer responded with a smirk and shoulder shrug. This is ridiculous because many places in Deep Ellum have better DJs, better drinks (most drinks @ Truth & Alibi come with a lot of ice and little alcohol for $11). This place is known for turning people away because they are middle-eastern, African-American, Asian, and even Hispanic on nights "secretly tailored" to other groups. Wouldn't recommend for people looking to have a great time without racism. I, along with many others, would prefer new management/leadership or a complete shutdown of this place because Deep Ellum/Dallas deserves better than a secret clubhouse with open discrimination (even when you know the password to get in).

We had a 10:00 reservation for a 10 person table with a $300 1 bottle minimum. When we arrived at 10:00, we were told that we had to have a $600 2 bottle minimum to be seated or could seat 6 of us for a $300 minimum at 11:00. This was a very infuriating experience when we had this reservation way in advance and the door man was unwilling to budge, even when I showed him my email confirmation. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING TO HAVE YOUR RESERVATION HONORED FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION.

Had some friends fly in from out of town and we wanted to go here to celebrate. Ordered a table a month in advance for 300 dollars and to my surprise upon arrival. They wanted 600. Showed them our email exchange and they didn't care. Still haven't heard back from management. This was on Oct 12. @ 10 pm. Bad business and I would personally Avia if this place. That's my experience.

Mexican candy shot was really good and i generally don't enjoy liquor, super loud place can barely hear each other but the play good music for the most part. Seems to mostly be a middle aged crowd, service was fine and it's super packed if you don't have a place to sit and your not dancing! Had a little trouble getting in without having a password but it was a little early so maybe just being easy on us in the end, in regards to the other reviews.

Really the only thing that makes this a "speakeasy" is the candy store facade and a password you get just by clicking on their social media or asking the person in line in front or behind you. But hidden away it's not. There is a bouncer out front and a line of people before you even get in. You walk through a door of a small fake candy shop which is neat but then you just enter a nightclub. The atmosphere was cool, basically an Alice in wonderland kind of look, but the music is all club music and so loud you can't hear or talk to someone standing right next to you. Unless you have a table you are really just standing in the way. Not sure if they have any signature drinks that speakeasies are known for as everyone was just drinking beer and usual table service bottles. If you are looking for club like place go here...if you are looking for a speakeasy don't go here. Just to touch on a review or two that complained about race being an issue. The night I was there it was a melting pot of race and ethnic groups so maybe they had a bad evening or just a poorly motivated on their part.

You need a password to get in. Follow them on Instagram for it. It's a different word each week. The front is a candy shop and the back is a club. Not a good club. I ordered vodka cranberry $11 and it had an ounce of "vodka" probably just water. It didn't do anything and I wasn't even drunk. They filled it with ice and it was ridiculous. I should have just ordered cranberry juice because that's what I got. DJ sucked, every song was played for like ten seconds so by the time you're in the grove, he switched it up already. How am I supposed to dance?

I wish I didn't have to rate this one 1 star. I would do zero if I could. The racist bouncer at the front wouldn't let in my wife and I, and yet he would let in every black group that came in. Shea Comer is completely useless. Said we were taken care of but lied. We emailed ahead to reserve a spot and get on the list and they didn't bother to actually put us on that list. I wanted to believe that the other reviews were not true, but sadly they are. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I love a good secret, but I'll go ahead snd blurt this one out - 'Truth & Alibi' is my new fave speakeasy bar! The ultra-low key fake exterior belies the decadent opulence of a roaring 20's speakeasy interior! The music is period perfect, and long gorgeous chandeliers abound! It is easy to meet and greet friends, or share secrets with your one-and-only in this comfy den of intimate seating (think couches and easy chairs)! Bartenders have a well-stocked bar to mix from, including off-beat choices like Pernod Absinthe. (No slotted silver spoons, but hey - I learned a long time ago that 7-up makes a fine 'louche.'). The lit-screen drink menus were awesome, and the house drinks were fantastic! My wife is hard to please in regards to alcohol, but she loved one of the Truth & Alibi house drinks! English owner Chris goes out of his way to make you feel at home! Top markes for quick service, and better than top marks for this beautiful interior! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

Opulent speakeasy with great decor, spacious seating, and wonderful service. I got here around 9 on Saturday night and surprisingly it wasn't crowded. I love the decor from the comfy velvety chairs to the chandeliers with black lighting and mirrors. The menus are pretty cool too with LED lights. I ordered a Moscow Mule, which wasn't my favorite and a bit more tart than I'm used to. You need to know the password to get in (which you get from FB) otherwise the bouncer won't let you in. The valet is $10-20. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely come back here again.

We were jumped and robbed tonight. We came to the front requested a table. Ordered 3k worth of bottles and before the table was set up we were jumped at the table. My husbands nose was broken and the the back of his head is bleeding. I was kicked in the shins and back of the head but I'm not bleeding. I'm at Baylor Scott and white waiting to see how many stitches he will get.

omg omg. My boyfriend and I got off the plane at 10pm, arrived at this bar at 11pm, AND I AM SO HAPPY WE DID. My cousin took us here to have a dance-y feel (which I love), and the music here was amaaaazing!! I wanted to keep dancing all night, but they made us leave to hit the next bar heh. Drinks here are sliiiightly on the pricier side - I ordered 3 Long Islands and a Pineapple Vodka which totaled $50 with tip. BUT I didn't care because the music was just too good to dance to. It was a Saturday night... good job DJ!! If I'm ever in Dallas again, I'm for sure coming here again. It was pretty crowded, buuut that just means it's poppin with good crowd and good music!!!

How fun are secret entrances and speakeasies? Usually the ones I go to are chill, but this one was playing fun music to get people dancing. They played top hits to some not-as-recent goodies that you hadn't thought about in the last two or so years - it was fun! We went earlyish on a Thursday night and had no issues getting in. We were able to settle in, take a look at the menu, and get a few drinks before the place got busy. About an hour in, that's when the crowd started pouring in. As we left, we saw the line and were glad we went when we did. The drinks were good and the bartenders were friendly! If I still in Dallas, I could see myself coming back here for sure.

We were at a table for awhile and someone had reserved the table which is fine, but the busser came and threw out all our brand new drinks (which wasn't cheap), I told someone working that we just bought those drinks and they said there was nothing they could do. Like sir my two drinks were 40$ wasted...

Full disclaimer: I am not a clubber. It was difficult to determine online if this place is a club or a lounge/bar. I would say it leans more toward club. That said, we came here on a Friday night for a friend's birthday and had a great time! Yes, the facade is unique that it is a candy shop. Yes, they make you tell them the password (a guy in front of us did not get in because he did not know the password). Hint: you can get the password on their Facebook page. We arrived at around 10:30pm and there was only a short line. It was not packed at all inside and even though we had a private section on the stage for the birthday party, we were able to get a small table on the main floor for just me and my wife. We had a couple drinks there and once the place filled up, the table was being used for "bottle service" so we headed to the stage where we were also "bottle servicing." The music here is great! It was a good mix of old school fun dance jams and some of today's hits. The staff was friendly and the place did not have a pretentious feel. Even at it's peak, it was not as crowded as one would expect. There was still room to move around and a 5 minute wait was the max I waited at the bar...and I'm a dude!

Same story as everyone else. I came here for my birthday. I have a lot of people visiting from out of town. Four guys six girls. Two girls and two guys got there earlier than the rest of us and we couldn't get in. Then my friends exited to re-enter with the guys since they said we had too many guys. Meanwhile the bouncer is ranting about how long he's been doing this and the male/female ratio. Then he tells my friends that they don't know us and they just asked them randomly to go in with us lmao! Here's the best part. The door opens for him to let other enter and it's very empty. I'd been there 3 times previously and it was pretty late to be so empty. Deep Ellum has several other places just skip this one!!!!

This place is interesting- if you just want great drinks and music in a nice interior location, GO HERE! Outside looks sketchy, but it's nice inside and great vibe. I love that it's very diverse, when I went I saw many different ethnicities. My one issue is that bartender not being on the same page as far as what size of glass to use for drinks, I ordered sex on the beach. The first bartender made the first 2 drinks in a tall Glass then when we ordered 3rd round, the girl used half the side of a glass... besides this, still a place I would recommend for music/dance/drinks. It's a cute spot, give it a try. Oh another thing is ... we didn't know we needed a code of the night lol look on their IGENJOY!

I knew the password (peppermint spangle), me and another guy tried to get in. We were rejected. I asked the 6'6" 250lb doorman awhy we couldn't get in, he said "because it's past 11 o'clock". ** it was 11:01pm, I checked** I said, "so nobody gets in after 11?" He said, "only if you have girls" So I politely stepped out and called two female friends to come join us. I go back in and ask "so we can get in if we have two girls with us right?" He said "they have to look good" I was offended by this, but still polite. I began to feel like he wasn't letting us in for some other reason. I asked him to explain why there seemed to be so many stipulations for us when he was letting people in right in front of me. He then responded that I looked like a trouble maker. I've never met this man before, and I'm thoroughly offended by his comment and his prejudice against me and my friends within a 10 second interaction. If the owner of this place is reading this, please watch the interaction on the video tape. You've hired a person that has demonstrated highly offensive behavior. There were 2 other people, who seemed like employees, standing right next to him. I'm sincerely concerned this is a systemic problem that needs to be fixed. I'm new to Deep Ellum, this place was recommended, I came and was insulted. I own a business and would never stand for this. I personally believe nobody should come to this place.

It was very intriguing to me when I first heard about the concept of this place. The front of the bar is disguised as a candy store, tho I'm not sure if any of them is actually edible lol, wasn't there long enough to check them out. In order to get in, you need to know the "secret" passphrase of the night, or have a booked reservation for a table there. I was lucky to know an infamous frequent patron there to get in quickly without any hassle lol. The bar is decorated nicely inside with the elegant chandeliers and royal looking chairs/tables. The owner of the bar is actually also one of the bartenders, so that says a lot right there about how much he cares about his bar. The drinks are a lil pricey, but I think it's worth it for a place like this. Even tho it's labeled as a cocktail bar, it's actually more like a club. I don't think it was ever meant to be a club when there's really no designated dance floor. People just kinda pick a spot and start grooving to the music or whatever move they are in the mood for. The serviced bottle is actually very expensive, at least a few hundred bucks. If you're lucky, you get a table away from the bar, instead of the ones right in front where people would walk all over your area. It does get overly crowded inside after midnight on the weekend, so if you're not one of those who cares too much about personal space, you'll be just fine :)

RACIST! Came here on a Friday night and I guess it was white preppy/SMU type night because they were the only type of people getting in. We saw them turn down black group after black group. I'm not sure I've ever witnessed such blatant racism in my life. It was pretty sad because it was from another minority - a middle eastern man. They kept lying and saying they were at capacity and you needed a table, while we watched every single white person get in with no problem. If you're non-white, getting in is hit or miss. Sometimes they let minorities in, sometimes they don't. I saw a few reviews like "there's a Black bouncer, they're not racist" - that doesn't mean anything if he's been told to discriminate at the door. Some people will do anything for a paycheck which explains the bouncers here. If you're a minority and aren't allowed in, don't say I didn't warn you. Just put "racist" in the search bar - there are more than 15 reviews calling out different instances. We're all not making this up.

My sister chose this place for her 30th birthday and it was a pretty fun time. We got bottle service at a table right in front of the dj booth so we were kind of in the middle of everything, including people making their way to and from the bathroom and standing in line for the bar. We had some people sitting in our chairs and cutting through our section but nothing to get in a tizzy over. The music was a great mix and kept everyone dancing. Would definitely recommend for a fun night out! Con- it seems like once you're in, you're in and you can't really leave because then you'll get stuck in the crazy line outside where a hipster wannabe will curse at you for trying to get back in. Oh well, I ended up leaving him in the back of the line- bye haterrr. Shout out to Kelsey (sp?) our hostess who made sure we were taken care of all night! Overall good vibes and good times!

I was at this establishment 3 hours ago and encountered zero racism and had an amazing experience. Coming from an Indian man in his early 30s (came here with my wife), either the place has changed or some of these reviews are from unhappy customers looking to bash the place. Amazing concept and worth the visit. I don't post many reviews, just thought I'd help spread some truthful anecdote.

I've heard a lot about this place, was told to check this out... I stopped by with my girlfriend (with the correct code) and was told it was full..... at 11:30 pm. He said wait 10mins outside. So as we sit outside we watched 14 people be let inside, and we just sat and watched, as if we weren't aloud in. Messed up. If you're in Dallas, just avoid this bar. Don't allow it to ruin your night by the terrible service this place has.

They were completely sexist and inappropriate. We were a group of ten people and they refused to let us in due to the men in our group. They easily missed out on at least $100, if not more. I was incredible disappointed as I had been to the bar before and been fine. Apparently, they only encounter issues if you're male. Watch out. I talked it through with the bouncer, walking through different scenarios of the bar, and the only issue was the men. Generally, the bar is very crowded, hard to walk around, and difficult to get a drink. If you're out in Dallas, go somewhere else.

Every time I have tried coming here I have been turned away for a completely different, completely random reason. The first time, one of my friends had shorts on. I thought that was okay, they probably had a dress code. The next time I had dark pants but they were joggers. They said I could only go in if I pay $20 cover. I ended up not going in because that was stupid, you wouldn't even be able to tell that they are joggers once you're inside. The third time I tried going I had nice black dress pants, nice shoes, a nice white shirt and black jacket on. I was allegedly turned down because I was 23 years old instead of 24, which I have never seen another club or bar do. Each time me and my friends have known the password, and each time it seems like they make a different excuse to turn us away. I've been in groups with all guys and groups with mixed guys and girls trying to get in but never been able to get in. Not sure if it's based on the race of people in my groups (i'm filipino american but sometimes people think i'm latino, a lot of my friends are latino and/or black) or if I have just been unlucky enough to get the worst bouncer each time. The inside looks cool based on the pictures, but at this rate I'll never get to see it for myself. Not sure if it's even worth trying again.

This is a cool "touristy" place to show your friends when they visit, but it's really not a great bar to spend a lot of time at. It's really small inside and gets insanely crowded so it's hard to get drinks or stand/sit comfortably. But the candy store front really makes is special and unique!

Fun nightlife spot! Small place with a high end feel. I've been here on Thursday and a Friday. Both nights were fun and music was on point. They play all types of music with hint of 90's and early 2000's. Deep Elum area has plenty of options but so far I'm digging T&A (Truth&Alibi). It's a good place to start your night before walking around Deep Elum.

The set up is dope, it's a unique place the bartender was skilled but there was only one and a lot of people. I read some of these reviews before I went claiming this place was racist so I had to go check it out. Lol they are not racist considering the two doormen were black and it was diverse once u got inside. I gave it a 3 because they need more workers and it's not my kind of area it's got a cluby kind of vibe and I'm not a dancer.

I've been to this place twice. I got in the first time I went ( the password is on their Facebook page). Yesterday however, I was not able to get in, even speaking the password. Hit or miss on the password. I can tell you from my first experience it was not all that it was hyped up to be. It's a well decorated but smelly bar. The music is good, but not the drinks. The speak easy concept is cool, candy "bar". It's alright, I wouldn't waste my time standing in line though if the bouncer doesn't let you in within about five minutes, just remember, THERE ARE PLENTY of bars that carry the same liquor , and don't smell as bad!

To say the least, I am NOT impressed with this place whatsoever!!! My party and I got to the door and one of the bouncers, a big bulky guy, standing about 6'5 with glasses and short mini dreads asked who we were with. We told him the name of our friend who had reserved the table and his immediate response was, "I've let too many people in for this table and there's not one bottle on it." Not even a drink, nothing!" For that reason, myself and my party of 6 people were left standing outside the door for a good 10-15 minutes. Mind you, our friend that had gotten the table was in the process of getting the bottle. Some sort of confirmation had to be made in order for the 7 of us to join the table. My question is, why would you let some people in and not the others? Better yet, where on the website or anywhere for that matter does it state that a certain number of people can be let in and others cannot when there's no bottle on a RESERVED table? I digress! On another occasion, one of my friends was denied entry by the same bouncer due to the lack of enough men and women in the club. Excuse me? What does that mean? Since when did clubs deny entry due to the lack of gender inside? Mind you again, while he was standing outside, some people could go in and others could not. My other question is, where on the website or anywhere for that matter does is state what the requirements are to get inside? Is there a list that I can possible go down and tick off as I gradually read through it so I can make sure I don't waste my time in a queue only to be told I can't get in? If there's was an option of giving this place 0 stars, I totally would. Nothing about it impressed me following the type of treatment my friends and I received at the door. Not the venue itself, not the music, not the ambience. Nothing!! I hope management can look into it because what they have going on is just a recipe for disaster. This was my first time there and definitely my last. I will not be giving them my business and hope nobody else will after reading all the bad reviews they have on both Yelp and Google.

This is a chill speakeasy spot/club that I checked out this past weekend. The interior decor is pretty awesome - chandeliers hang which reflect the light so it creates a funky feel. The bartender ended up running my friends card 4 times on accident (how does that happen?) but besides that it was a cool spot to check out if you're in Dallas and looking for a spot away from Uptown to check out. I went fiancé cakes and his friends, and we had a great time. :D

For a nightclub that's causal, you can't get much better than this place. It's always so much fun and great music. You can bust a move in your sneakers or heels if you must. I love the decor. It has a industrial meets romantic feel. The bar tenders are pretty quick to get your drink out just don't ask for anything tricky. This is one of the few dance clubs were getting a bottle will definitely pay off. You'll want your own space come 11p when people come flooding in from Deep Ellum. The bottle rates are a steady flat rate and the cocktail waitress is helpful the whole night and actually works for her tip unlike other clubs I have been to. Best of the Best in Dallas right now.

Great concept but just like actual trips to the candy store, wanted to go all the time as a kid but now once every couple of years is good enough for me. We're met at the door of a small foyer turned candy shop by a large bouncer who we gave the password to in order to get in. Inside is a club with decor akin to a 15th century castle. A DJ plays the typical set and by 11:30 im chest to chest with everyone else in the bar. There's nowhere to sit because all the tables are reserved and there's nowhere to dance because you're up close and personal with Dallas' trendy Uptown refugees and a group of people who looked like they may be porn stars. My friend tried to meet us at midnight but was turned away. Probably a good thing... Nobody else would fit. Drinks were great. I loved the 12:00 Alibi. After two of them we hitched a ride on a river of people to make our way to the door. It was a neat experience, but I probably won't come back.

Whelp - got in to Truth & Alibi and boyyyyy is it a miss. While the Facebook description promises a "concept fashioned after a prohibition era speakeasy", it ​​is indeed​ ​more similar to its facade as a candy shop, but instead of rotting your teeth, it rots your brain. ​​ I wanted so badly to like it, but it almost dares you not to. Loud, overcrowded, and gauche. The opposite of a speakeasy. Dallas will get this concept one day. +1* for the inspired decor

Who doesn't love having to give a password to gain entrance through a hidden door into a SECRET bar?? Three stars for that alone. And all y'all two-star haters just gonna hate hate hate hate. Well, listen up. Yes, douchebags are everywhere, and I don't know about that no-men-under-24 rule some other Yelpers have mentioned, because I sure saw a ton of douchebags who looked like your typical SMU frat boy. But I also saw some mad dancing skillz from a group at a nearby table that looked like they were straight from Miami. And the douchebags didn't bother us much because we got there early enough to claim our own table and (super fun bouncy) couches. The drinks are overpriced, so minus one star for that -- come on, this is Deep Ellum, not uptown. But the drinks also are delicious. Try the "lies and secrets." So deliciously refreshing. Might want to encourage the bartender to serve with a little less ice... The DJ the night we were there was fantastic, playing a steady mash-up of the greatest dance songs from the '90s and '00s. For some reason, maybe because we were some of the only people there who were dancing, some Stoli girls came and gave us free drinks. Score!

Thank God for the friendly stranger who told us about Truth & Alibi during our girls trip in Dallas! We were so disappointed when we tried another spot that was dead with no people on the dance floor, but that was NOT the case with Truth & Alibi! The speakeasy concept was fun. You can get the password to get in from their Facebook page. The music was good and it was just a really fun atmosphere. The only drawback was that it was pretty crowded and it's a slightly more upscale place so if that's not your thing this may not be your spot. We had a great time here though! Definitely helped make for a fun girls weekend!

I had a total blast the first and only time I have been to T&A. The music was loud and fun, people were respectful, the place was nice - all around a good vibe and a fun time. The only thing that was not ideal was that the line to the bar was a couple of rows deep, so that made it a bit more difficult to get a drink. But order double talls and all is good!

MEH. This place is not something you would think to find in Deep Ellum...but here it is. After walking around Deep Ellum for a couple of hours and failing to find a place that wasn't ridiculously hipster and playing terrible music we decided to come here. Walking up to the front door there was a line of about 15 people ahead of us. The first group of all guys were turned down by the bouncers. They were all pretty intoxicated and left very angry. A group of about 5 girls all got in no problem. Then another group of guys with one girl were all turned away. I started to get a bit nervous that the bouncers were going to turn us down since we had 3 guys in our group. We stood around for 5 minutes awkwardly making eye contact with the bouncers and then they finally let us in. First impression inside is that the place is TINY. They have all these "VIP" benches and chairs and a small little walk way everyone else uses to dance in. It was a battle getting from the front door to the bar. I get that when you go to clubs, personal space is non existent but the amount of men that insist on having to wrap an arm around you when they walk by was RIDICULOUS. dont touch me. I started to become very irritated because there was no space to get close enough to the bar to order a drink. After 15 minutes of pushing people dancing next to the bar out the way we finally get our drinks. While we were here I witnessed 3 girls drop their drinks on the floor because of elbows flying in the air. Had a drunk girl try to fight me in the bathroom (not the clubs fault) but it was the most amusing part of my night. The only thing I enjoyed here were the drinks. they arent skimpy with the alcohol so you're atleast getting your moneys worth. The bartender was nice and gave me a free red bull. I don't plan on making a trip to deep ellum just to come to this club.

Came here on a random Friday and it was incredibly early (about 9:30pm) and the music was already bumpin'! They played a mix of old school hip hop and r&b and even threw some reggae in there at some point. Absolutely loved it. Great music, tons of space to dance, and we were entertained the entire time we were there! Drinks were strong and the décor allowed for beautiful photo ops :) Can't wait to bring out-of-towner's here!

A CANDY STORE WITH BOUNCERS. NOT SUSPICIOUS AT ALL. Legend has it that in the heart of Deep Ellum, there is a Candy Store that really is not what it appears to be. Guarded by 2 large stunt doubles from Men-In-Black, this place requires a password before they will allow you into an alternate dimension filled with anything but adolescent sweets and treats. Give them the password and they will open up a door into a Halloween paradise. First Impressions: Outside: The candy store is a fun touch to take patrons out of reality and into a realm of imagination. When you take a look at it, it is obvious that it is not a candy store, but something that looks suspicious of having a secret passageway. The variety of colors is enough to cause a partial seizure, but to anyone seeking a Candy-Land-adventure, this could be your everything. Inside: The interior is on a grander scale than you would imagine. It is adorned by chairs, loveseats, sofas, and cushions of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Reminds me of a cross between a furniture store and an 80s Halloween costume boutique. You can literally spend the evening moving around and sitting in different chairs. Once you enter, the bar is to your right and there are seats everywhere. Truth & Alibi is a cozy, candlelit setting that welcomes all. This place looks like it would be "The Place" for Halloween parties, as it conveys the perfect darken mood. I would describe this place as Cruella de Vil's bar and sitting room, or any of the wives of Transylvania's inhabitants. Drinks: You order out of a LIGHT UP MENU. It is a menu with a backlit screen that provides the perfect bright contrast to the dark interior. Gives this place an exquisite and extravagant touch. The drinks themselves are pretty pricey at around $12-15, not including tip. If you are rolling up in a group, you can get champagne by the bottle. Classic drinks and cocktails as always, but I was really hoping for original and creative cocktails to match their original and creative speakeasy. (-1 star). The Verdict: DON'T FORGET THE PASSWORD. Honestly, this is the place to explore your dark creative side, so it does not feel right to come here to get a casual or after-work drink. My group was the first in line, so i did not experience the lines that many reviewers have been talking about, but remember, waiting in line itself is an experience. Definitely consider coming by on Halloween for adult festivities and/or with a costume. Truth & Alibi is one of those places that calls out your inner kid, only for you to realize that the inner kid in you has become less cutesy and cuddly, and more dark. Overall, I will definitely be back to patron those many exquisite seats and have a drink with those that share in these festivities. Why does Wicked and Alice in Wonderland keep coming to mind when I think of this place?

Such a cool concept and atmosphere! The decor is awesome, lots of seating, but still enough room to dance. The DJ was on point with all his mixes and there was no lack of dancing the night I went.
