Longrunning San Jose Sushi Restaurant to Close After 47 Years - Eater SF
"Tsugaru is a restaurant located in San Jose's Japantown and is known as an institution in the area. It is closing at the end of July due to its building being purchased for renovation. Fans can stop by for chicken teriyaki bento boxes and dragon rolls until the end of the month at lunch or dinner." - Ellen Fort
Sushi is great as always. The waitress tells you that the soup is only for one person. Misleading. The amount of soup they give you is for minimum of two people. The beef was undercooked in the soup.

Fresh ingredients. Generous portions. Great variety of rolls. I just wish there were more sashimi options. But overall a nice experience.

The sushi is great, probably the best I have had in a while. The place has a nice atmosphere and the chef is very friendly. I have had the pleasure of sitting at the bar and talk to him.

Tsugaru was one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to. Every item was fresh and flavorful. The wasabi and ginger were the best I’ve ever had. The Hana Maki, Yaki Ika, Yosenabe, Fireball, and Green Roll were all very delicious. Highly recommended

Great family run restaurant. Chicken teriyaki was amazing, everything that was on the table tasted good.

What here for a quick lunch and the food was good, but not great. Maybe because I just got lunch specials with the salmon and the beef teriyaki and they didn't taste special really but definitely solid quality and the temperature was not oily. It's a good lunch spot, we'll have to come back in the evening time to try the sushi and give it a rating again.

My family has been coming here for the past 10 years. The staff is always so friendly and at this point, knows us and always asks where a family member is if they are not with us at dinner. This is also how things are in the Japan town community. The fish is fresh and the soup is delicious. It's always a must go when I visit my family in San Jose

Pretty good lunch experience. The place is nice, we got a window seat and watched the people pass by. You get good portion sizes and I was stuffed by the end of my combo tempura lunch and the California lover's roll on the side. My friend had the bento box tonkatsu lunch and he enjoyed it. The iced tea glasses were large and cold. The rice was good. The service was friendly and fast. The environment was clean and not too loud, which is great for conversation. Price was reasonable too.
