Google
Better than some reviews said it was. I definitely preferred the salmon and tuna nigiri and the salmon bowl over the tuna roll mainly because it tasted fresher. The one thing about the nigiri I found annoying was that each piece was individually wrapped in plastic. Also, the avocado on the tuna roll was a bit brown. Keep in mind these are not made to order, you pick from the prepackaged items so you are limited to the selection without being able to make any modifications. It’s a bit expensive but it’s sushi at an airport so it’s to be expected. The tuna roll and nigiri plate was $24.99 and the salmon bowl I believe was $18 (the bowl came with pieces of salmon, seaweed salad, edamame, white rice and tobiko.) I personally don’t like tobiko and luckily I was able to find one that didn’t have any but I wouldn’t count on it if I returned. This is definitely a grab and go station and you pay at the self check out so if you’re in a hurry it’s still a god choice. I do hope that in the future they allow customers to order what they want vs having to choose from the items they have in the display.

Google
Sushi - great. I was a little weirded out by the individually wrapped pieces. As of writing this review, I have not experienced any stomach problems. Service- ok. I got chased by the man behind the counter for not going to the right self check out counter. All in all. Good place to grab and go. Just make sure you check out at the "right" counter or you get the wrath of the sushi guy. 2024 update: I guess I showed up a little too early. No sushi early in the morning. See photo

Google
Yes, gentleman who helped was rude and rushing us at checkout. I should’ve cancelled at that point. The rice was hard, no flavor and the shrimp in the California roll smelled bad. Gross! Waste of money. Never again!!!

Ilya S

Google
Just.. no. Hard rice. Fish doesn’t look or taste fresh. And they don’t have ginger.

Google
Ordering process is very confusing and the owner or chef is irate when you ask questions. Each pack of sushi counts as 1pc. Super confusing and not very helpful when you just point to things and expect people to get it. rolls were 1/10 rice is mashed together and no flavor. Doubt anything is imported from the Tsukiji Market as claimed.

Google
Self-serve style counter. The sushi portions are very small, but the bowls are pretty plentiful. I got the tuna bowl and found it to be quite tasty. The price wasn’t terribly bad, either.

Google
If you order sushi rolls to go at the ramen restaurant in the middle of the whole global market area, they make the rolls at this place. Met Raj, one of the chefs, who helped me get my order quickly and speaks 7 languages! The bad reviewed scared me from getting food as first but everything we had was good and fast service (on thanksgiving weekend). I got the lobster dynamite roll and my husband got the impossible burger. Def get some food here.

Google
I got a tuna bowl and wow it was so good. I can say it's one of the best tuna I've ever had. I was mindful about the bad reviews. I guess it had quality consistency issues. I looked into the items very carefully to make sure the rice is still fresh and etc before I buy. But honestly all of them looked good. It's also slightly more expensive because it's located at the airport, but well worth it IMO.

Yelp
Tsukiji Fishroom is located in the Terminal 3 Food Hall / Global Bazaar. The sushi is pretty expensive. A large box of 12 pieces of nigiri or 24 pieces of maki costs $33.99. They also have quite a limited selection. The options that I saw: Nigiri - Salmon nigiri - Tuna nigiri - Shrimp nigiri - Tamago nigiri - Imitation crab nigiri Would be great if they added a few more nigiri options, particularly hamachi. Maki - Salmon roll - Tuna roll - Salmon avocado roll - Tuna avocado roll - Philadelphia roll - Unagi roll - Spicy salmon roll - California roll I filled my box with salmon nigiri and salmon avocado rolls. It was pretty tasty and I would do it again!

Yelp
Two words: not good. I don't understand the PR around this place. Sure, the fish on the nigiri is pretty good, but the rice is hard and clumpy. Also overpriced. I mean I know it's the airport, but the value is just not there. Don't bother. Edit: this review was previously two stars, but after further reflection I can't justify such awful rice.

Yelp
For airport sushi within the US, this is on the better end for sure in my opinion. It's cool that they fly their fish in from Japan, but make sure you level set expectations because it is frozen and you can tell the freshness doesn't match sushi you would find in Japan... despite all that, it's still a solid option if you're craving sushi though. Located close to the C90 gate. You'll find it within a food court that has a lot of other options too. When I was there, they didn't have too many pre-packaged varieties so I went with building my own box of sushi. They have all their sushi made already in the fridge, so it's up to you to pick out the sushi you want to fill up a box. I did the "12pcs" box and that was a good filling amount. Each wrapped piece seemed to count as one (so you could get two rolls wrapped as one for example, but the rolls are on the smaller end). I stuck with a variety of salmon and tuna, which seemed to be a good choice and bang for my buck. The fish is average but not bad. What I was happy with was that the rice wasn't hard, which is a problem at some places, but not here. A good place to grab and go! It's pretty quick and you pay at the self-checkout. No "dining" in, but plenty of tables all around the gates for you to sit, eat and also charge your devices.

Anna S.

Yelp
I mean what do you expect. I enjoyed the selections they had and the different varieties they offer. I just think overall it's expensive and not worth for the price. I also got the seaweed salad and it wasn't anything special either.

Yelp
Even though this is at the EWR airport and I would still grade this as average sushi for the price paid ($16). I tried the bowl, and was not very impressed with the quantity, quality and taste . If you must eat airport sushi, then I'd recommend doing the assortments rather than the bowl.
google avatar

Angelo B.

Yelp
This place could not survive out of the airport in NJ (let alone Tsukiji!!!), but for EWR airport standards, I think its one of the better options. Got a tuna bowl. At $12, I felt that the price was reasonable compared to other airport food. There was a decent amount of tuna, and the tuna did taste quite good and fresh. The rice was a complete let down though... it was so hard that it was impossible to mix everything together. That being said, I think I have found my go-to dish at EWR!

Yelp
Cool concept, terrible execution. Everyone looks pretty, but there could be some clarification on "how" to fill your box. For example, there was a gentleman next to me that filled up his box with sushi but wasn't clear on the prices. (They are a little hard to find/understand). The guy working behind the counter basically mocked him and literally shrugged his shoulders while saying "I don't know what to tell you." Rude. The actual fish was good, but that rice is tragic. It's waxy, cold, and hard. I'm appreciative that there are options other than burgers and salads, but this place needs to do a bit of fine tuning to realize it's full potential.

Yelp
Normally, I'd be wary of getting sushi at an airport - nothing like the threat of gastric distress on a 6 hour flight to quell my normal adventurousness around food. That said, I decided to roll the dice with Tsukiji - I've never seen sushi wrapped individually before - and figured, could something with such nice packaging be so dangerous? For $16, it wasn't cheap - but again, this is an airport - and my god, it must be a pain to wrap sushi in such a detailed manner. There's gotta be an extra wrapping labor surcharge for that, right? I got a mix of the salmon rolls and headed to my gate to chow down. Checking out was fast and seamless - I suppose nobody wanted sushi at 9:30am. After all, the crowds were all around Poppy's Bagels. I was impressed. Fish tasted fresh (even the salmon nigiri), and the rice wasn't hard as others had noted in their reviews. Tasted like standard grocery store sushi. I suppose you could get better sushi at a restaurant in the terminal, but the convenience was nice - and frankly, that's what you're paying for in an airport meal.
google avatar

Sallie D.

Yelp
New concept - you pick your own combination of sushi pieces that are individually wrapped in plastic. I got the medium box which was 8 pieces and about $12 I think. (Small is 4 pieces and just a couple $ cheaper.) Box says prepared daily. The rice was so hard it tastes like it's been sitting in the fridge for at least a day. Fish is not terrible but way too much rice. I tried most kinds except the vegetarian ones. Out of the eight, the shrimp and egg were the better ones. Didn't see wasabi/soy sauce. Maybe they were in a different area.
google avatar

Attiya H.

Yelp
Average or less than average sushi. Wanted to try this place since the fish is from Japan but was extremely disappointed. The fish is okay, still pretty fresh, but I've definitely had better tuna and salmon. They all come individually wrapped so it's really awkward to eat. The worst part is the cold hard rice since it's probably been refrigerated for a while. It's decent airport sushi but I think you could find better at other restaurants in the terminal.
google avatar

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
The lady who checked me out was super nice, but the quality of the sushi was not there. I got the crab and spicy crab rolls and the rice was extremely hard and dry.
google avatar

Alen K.

Yelp
I'm knocking a few stars down due to the rice, you would think fresh fish would be paired greatly with they same focus as the rice but not here. There's an rice machine to assist the sushi chef, which is a dead giveaway to lower your expectations. What made up for the rice is how some of the fish tasted. In the morning when I stopped here, there weren't a lot of selections. I did have salmon and tuna which they were good. I also grabbed a few pieces of tamago and those weren't bad as well. But I keep coming back to the rice which knocks down the experience. Save your money and find a sit down place that can serve the fish sashimi style and stay away from sushi on-the-go

Brian v.

Yelp
Keep walking. This place gives gas station sushi a bad rap. Ice cold, just like the 'chef' behind the counter. Horrible taste that not even soy sauce and wasabi can cover up. I've had food court sushi before and this is by far the worst. Ate a few bites and tossed it in the trash. You're welcome.

Yelp
This is my go to spot in terminal C at Newark. I don't care if I'm flying first thing in the morning or arriving late at night, I'm probably stopping here. The fish is great, like some of the best salmon I've had around these parts. The rice can be hit or miss like folks have mentioned, but I find if I give it a little squeeze you can kind of tell if you're getting hard rice. I typically pull pieces from the back/top as those seem to be the newest. The wrappers get annoying when you're housing pieces like I do, but whatever. Maybe it's because I'm typically expensing this and don't care how much I'm spending, but I really think it's the best bargain in terminal c and you won't hate yourself after.

Jason L.

Yelp
Least impolite staff. They tried to tell me 3 times how many sushi per box. The rice is frozen hard.

S K.

Yelp
I was expecting mediocre, but honestly this is pretty good for airport food! I wiped out the salmon (sorry folks) which didn't disappoint and I also liked the spicy tuna and shrimp. About 20 USD for 10 pcs. Mind you, my airport food expectation is low low. But the fish was quite fresh. That's good enough for me. Edit: not the tuna! Tuna was kinda smelly. Go for salmon.
google avatar

Tom L.

Yelp
I mean, you have to manage your expectations. For on the go sushi in an airport, it's fine. Is it going to be well priced and the best sushi you've had? No, but it's convenient and beats your in flight meal. Went with the salmon bowl, which was fresh enough and luckily did not encounter anything frozen as some of the reviews mentioned. They offer a la carte pieces as well as already packed combos for anyone looking to choose.

Jonathan A.

Yelp
8 pieces is 23.99 and 12 pieces is 33.99, but they don't even have a box for 12 pieces so you're forced to only buy 8. Tiny, low quality, expensive sushi. Fish didn't taste fresh, it tasted days old. Rice was too hard. Reminded me of Safeway's, although Safeway's is a little better. The worker was also very rude, assuming, condescending, cold, unwelcoming, and unhelpful to me and the person in front of me.
google avatar

Faye S.

Yelp
Despite the less than ideal reviews, I decided to give this place a shot.. and I'm glad I did. The sushi was indeed fresh and well made. Is it the best sushi I've had? No. But at the airport on the east coast, it's pretty good. Tip: The rice can be a bit hard if you eat it right after purchasing because obviously, refrigerated rice becomes hard. But if you let it sit for a minute, it's much better. Glad I tried it and it made for a nice meal that's not typical airport food. BTW: It's located by gate C75. The directions on here weren't specific enough and it took me a while to find it.

Yelp
A must for those traveling from Terminal C at Newark Airport. Sushi is direct from Tokyo daily! Mix and match your own sushi box from the fresh selection. It is melt in your mouth heaven! Too bad the fish is such a tiny piece and the rice a bit hard.
google avatar

Jesmin D.

Yelp
I bought 12 piece for 21+dollars on my way to California. 9 out of the 12 piece were frozen. The rice were hard and literally frozen. I thought they serve freshly prepared ones.. I was so angry and i had nothing else to eat in the flight since i only opened the box in flight

Yelp
Oh, Tsukiji. I wanted to believe that your fish, flown in straight from Japan, would elevate the soulless and mediocre OTG food complex that's colonized Newark Airport with iPads, leaving homogenized faux-globalism in its wake. However, when I approached the counter (very cute, with nice murals), I noticed there were no prices. Like, anywhere. A bunch of signs on different sizes and how it works, but not a dollar sign to be seen. No worries, there was a guy chopping up new rolls as well as a guy restocking. Well... neither knew. No offer to help me find out, either. I literally asked, "Well, do you know who could tell me?" The guy chopping turned away, and the other guy walked away. I scanned the smallest box myself and found out it was $12. I passed. My boyfriend arrived after me and snagged a box before I had a chance to warn him. The fish that I tried was better than grocery store, but far from restaurant. And that rice-- so sad. Dry, hard, cold. Sad!

Yelp
sushi was good for the price but the service was 0!!!!!. Try it out but don't except anything close to good service. (Specially guy in picture - unprofessional, very rude and unpleasant )

Yelp
I was so happy to find this gem in the Newark airport! This stand contains a selection of individually wrapped nigiri and maki sushi pieces. You can select a box of appropriate size and fill it with whatever items you want. Very clean and tidy. Perfect for traveling. The sushi quality was decent. I would say average for a city but above average for an airport. Four stars because I thought otherwise I would be eating crappy pizza or McDonald's. :-)

Yelp
I was so excited about this place after the Bloomberg's article. (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-21/best-sushi-in-the-new-york-city-might-now-be-at-newark-airport) Price sounds reasonable for an airport food court, but the quality isn't. The quality of the food is same as other Supermarket Delis'. Not even Wholefoods'. :(
google avatar

CMR L.

Yelp
Decent sushi to go. The fish - flown in daily from Japan - tasted fresh. Not as much attention was paid to the rice. Still good though and so I will return.

Asuka N.

Yelp
I was a bit skeptical about this spot after reading about it in the newspaper. It definitely sounded gimmicky, and folks who know about sushi know that it's not only about where it comes from, but how it is prepared. As such, I have come with appropriately low expectations about the quality of the food here - and I can say that not only is it not as bad as I feared, but some things are actually pretty good here. The bad / less ideal: don't bother with the sushi. You will get varying qualities depending on how long the rolls have been sitting in the refrigerated display. The taste is fine, and if you get a more-freshly made roll, you might end up with something that is decent - but it will always be a bit of a crapshoot. On the other hand, I had a chance to grab a rice bowl (which is a less elegant way of saying it's what passes for a poke bowl nowadays) with salmon...and that was very good. The salmon was of decent quality, but served with sushi-style rice and a good helping of seaweed salad made it an excellent meal to wolf down while waiting to board. If only more poke spots were like this - and serving it for $12 - it would be a hit anywhere else, despite being on the simpler side. As with many of the OTG-managed spots in EWR's Terminal C...don't expect the food to be world-beating, but in this case, the food was on balance, and it was better than ordering sushi from one of the sit-down spots in the terminal as well. And if you can get your hands on a rice bowl (which I have only seen once out of the few times I have passed by), definitely grab it - it'll be better than the food you can get on the plane.
google avatar

Minako S.

Yelp
Sushi is not good, not that fresh and overpriced. For paying a lot, you can still be hungry and not satisfied.

Kristian C.

Yelp
I had a long layover at the Newark airport and decided to give them a try. I liked that you could pick your own and got an 8 piece variety box. But when I started eating, all the sushi was old with rice that had hardened and caked off. It was so bad I pitched it and got some sushi at the ramen place. Bu then (as I had a long layover), I thought I would try the their sushi already packaged at one of the Cibo Express shops dated for the following day. Shame on me for the second attempt - it was just like the first and I pitched it all. I've never written a yelp review so you can understand how upset I am with their product. It's the worse sushi I've ever had.
google avatar

Alan C.

Yelp
The tuna and salmon nigiri were very good, and prices were reasonable (8 nigiri / $15). The unagi was a bit hard. Definitely worth it if you choose carefully! Pick the fresh fish.

Clifford E.

Yelp
Is zero stars not an option? I have lived in Tokyo and been eating sushi regularly for more than 30 years. As you can imagine, I was very excited when I heard there was a sushi shop in Newark airport where they flew the sushi in from Tsujiki market every day. Well, I finally got to try it today and it was terrible! Likely the worst sushi I have ever had. The fish itself was so, so but the rice was cold and dry. Whoever would think to serve sushi on cold, dry rice has brought shame on an entire nation!

Susan W.

Yelp
This is probably the best sushi I have had in Airports. Excellent priced and super fresh fish. Ordered the 3 nigiri with rainbow roll & side of seaweed salad combo for only $14.95. Delicious and filling. Give it a try! Enjoy :)

Janet H.

Yelp
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews for this place. The prices are actually quite reasonable if you get a medium sized box of 8 nigiri pieces for $15. The quality of nigiri is very good and comparable to really good sushi I've had in Japan (especially the salmon.) Just be sure to fill the box with the nigiri instead of any of the cooked sushi and it's definitely worth the price.

ID S.

Yelp
Maybe not always the freshest, but friendly staff and willing to make to order if out of stock. Enough to get me back there over the crappy deli it's connected to.

Blake W.

Yelp
Served similar to Wasabi chain in Manhattan and London. The temperature of the sushi is numbing cold, and far too much rice is used. Real shame for a concept hyped by OTG, United, and EWR.
