The Best Restaurants In Tokyo

"If you’re looking for a classic tonkotsu ramen, this is the spot. The famed Ippudo is only a couple minutes walk down the street, but if given a choice between the two, we choose Tsukumo Ramen every single time. Their noodles are heavier, their creamy tonkotsu soup comes in a variety of styles (like miso or soy sauce), and the place specializes in cheese ramen (to be clear, that means you can add a huge mound of freshly-grated gouda cheese to your bowl)." - josh layne

This is a rich, punchy bowl made for cheese fans. The broth is bold and unapologetic, the noodles are way better than expected, and it’s got enough depth to keep things interesting. Just don’t expect much from the toppings unless you start adding on. Full review on my blog

Cheesey ramen! I can't decide if this is a gimmick or just really tasty unique ramen. Got the tomato ramen. Rich tomato broth, like a really good tomato soup. Big mound of freshly grated cheese in the middle and ramen noodles hiding below. Really enjoyed this bowl. Is it ramen? Not sure, but it is good. Visited around 1:30 in the morning on a Saturday. No wait to get in, but I wasn't the only visitor at that time.

I visited this ramen shop on a Tuesday at 11:30 AM and was easily seated with my group of three. However, the place quickly filled up, and a line formed shortly after noon. I savored the unique cheese ramen (¥1300), a delightful blend of savory broth and creamy cheese. The miso vegetable ramen (¥1100) was equally satisfying, with a rich broth and a generous array of fresh vegetables. The service was incredibly friendly, and the lively atmosphere added to the enjoyable dining experience. I'll definitely be returning to explore their menu further, but I recommend arriving early to avoid the lunchtime rush.

Staff were very friendly and helpful! Had their special signature cheese ramen, and ordered with the red miso soup which had a unique mild spice to it. The cheese was generous but unfortunately melted into the bean sprouts which I did not eat XD so didn't taste much of the cheese. Will try the normal style ramen next time.

This ramen shop was my first spot visiting Japan. I was recommended by a gentleman at the bar at the Westin Marriott. My goodness did I fell in love it. Not once did I eat there once, twice but a third time and with friends that met up with us on our japan trip. I knew the moment I sipped the broth, this place was a gem. Definitely, my favorite was the sesame seed ramen, absolutely a banger! The cheese ramen was also different, but I enjoyed it quite much and pair nicely with a cold beer. It's small but comfortable, and the vibe is super chill. Highly recommend 👌

The restaurant is warm and inviting with friendly and helpful staff who can speak English. She was so kind to me as to offer paper apron to prevent stains. The food was good and very filling. Love the cheese wheel display.

Unique, this kind of ramen I haven’t tried in my life. And just what they said, cheese matches miso well in the bowl of ramen. The staffs treated me well and willing to help. Im willing to introduce to friends who enjoy untraditional ramen. Highly recommended!

Google
Great place for some unique ramen! The tomato broth was a bit light on flavor, but apparently you can ask for it to be stronger/weaker when you hand over your tickets. Their gyoza is also pretty great. Just the right amount of crispiness while still having a soft texture to it. The shredded ponzu sauce that goes with it is nice, too.

Yelp
One of our favorite Ramen restaurants in Japan. This gem has survived COVID restrictions and is still in operation. There is an electronic menu at the entrance, but before ordering get your temperature taken using the automated machine to the right. Cheese miso ramen is filling and a great portion! Includes noodles Brussels sprouts and corn. Try to avoid the lunchtime rush.

Yelp
When I was in college, I used to come here often. Cheese on ramen sounds weird but it is actually amazing. Not like American, cheese is never too much. Soup is great too. I want to come back there someday.

Yelp
Just my personal opinion -- Tsukumo used to be my favorite ramen restaurant until I noticed the strong chemical boric-acid-like smell of the noodles about two years ago (the smell when you fry or boil the food containing borax). I tried many times but sadly the noodles just smell -- maybe I'm too sensitive, or its not borax problem but the noodles smells chemicals somehow. And they stop providing free toppings any more (like spicy bean sprouts, fresh green onions, and spicy leaf mustard). Except the noodles, I do love Tsukumo -sniff-- the pork ramen and the famous cheese ramen are both good. The soup is rich and creamy, the 70th pop music is good, and the waiters are very friendly, too bad that its hard to find other ramen restaurants offering cheese ramen since Tsukumo seems to take out a patent on their Marukyu Cheese Ramen. I personally sincerely wish Tsukumo would improve the noodle problem and I'd definitely frequent Tsukumo like before!!

Yelp
My favorite tomato ramen shop, Akanasuya in Shibuya closed down, and I was incredibly disappointed until I was told by one of my Japanese friends that Tsukumo Ramen in my neighborhood is famous for its tomato ramen. So I rushed right over and... nope, still disappointed. The ramen here is very average and the tomato soup broth lacked the depth and complexity that Akanasuya had. I really can't say that I recommend it.

Yelp
I had been hearing about cheesy ramen from my mentor for years so was stoked when I finally arrived in Japan and had the opportunity to have some! This place has a patent on their marukyu cheese which is kind of like Parmesan. I ordered my marukyu ramen with extra green onions, marinated soft boiled egg and bamboo. This huge steaming bowl of ramen topped with a mountain of cheese came out and I was in heaven! The broth is rich and delicious. Granted this is not a traditional ramen, I was still super happy and disgustingly full! I actually couldn't even finish my bowl though I had come in starving. Ben ordered the tonkotsu ramen with a boiled egg and green onions. The broth was delicious and I liked that it was heavy on the white pepper. Lastly the gyoza was also delicious!
