Google
Nice place! We got two sushi’s, they were good! The tuna one has many rice for me, but was okay! I’d recommended it.

Jenna Darby

Google
This place has the most high quality sushi I’ve had in a long time. It’s a little pricey but it is worth the money between the food and drinks there’s not much to be disappointed about. 10/10

Google
The downtown was dead, and bars were empty, but this place was popping. Dylan was a little new, but his effort made up for it. Kyla knew her Japanese whiskeys and helped me in the fold. Real talk don't go exotic. Stay mainstream, and you'll have bangers all night. Kanpai!

Google
Excellent restaurant, delicious food, great service. I was very impressed with the menu as it has so many different varieties. User friendly, items are explained with ingredients, and pictures. Presentation was beautiful. Plates were made for good Price VS value. Staff are super nice, helpful and beautiful. Thomas and Maddie were super nice and attentive. Dessert was also delicious. Chocolate cake was balanced and not too sweet. Restrooms were clean and maintained. Design was nice, separate are for bar, second floor and main dining area. Also a Sushi bar area where you can enjoy the chefs making the sushi rolls. In addition to a separate bar area where you can enjoy a drink. Highly recommend this place from date, or any other occasion. Keep up the good work.

Google
Nice place. Visited out of a distant recollection. Atmosphere is more of a date night feel. Almost upscale, some things need updating. Nice variety of sushi options. A bit on the pricey side, but good sushi. FYI there is an upcharge if you ate using credit cards

Google
Stopped in after work to get some Korean chicken and fried rice. Looked at online menu no chicken went in any ways. For an"upscale place it is a dump then I saw the menu and realized the "upscale" meant menu price. 20 dollars for an unknown quantity of wings maybe for a whole chicken. And the only fried rice was almost 20 dollars too. The initial impression was so disappointing I just walked out. Most of the thumbnails on the menu were too small to even look appealing. Many better spots don't waste your time.

Google
Our go-to place for sushi. The food was amazing as always. The server had great wine recommendations. The plum wine was really good!! The only critique was that, when we arrived, the servers were in a meeting, so it took about 10 minutes to have our initial interaction with our waitress. Suggest to have someone watching for patrons coming in while meetings are happening. Will definitely be back.

Google
Food was a little different but very good. Nathan was our server and he was great! Answered all of our questions and helped pick our meals. The molten lava cake and bread pudding is honestly the best out there.

Yelp
This was my first time here. This is located in downtown BR and it's the ultimate date night spot. You have to take an elevator up to the establishment. The vibes are there along with the lighting. You can also sit outside and see views of the Mississippi. I opted for the Tiny Dragon to start with. The drink was just a bit spicy which is why I ordered it. It was really good! The spice wasn't overbearing. We also had the dumplings which we ate to fast to take a picture of. Those were great. For my entree I had the Black n Gold and the lava roll. My favorite was the Black n Gold. It had the crunchies on top which helped with the texture. It was also spicy with crawfish tails. The lava roll was good as well it had salmon on top . I just wish that had more of the crunchy also. Still good nonetheless less! The service was great. They offer to pack up your leftovers. I will be back to try a few other rolls on the menu.

Yelp
Stopped in for a Saturday lunch. Service was very friendly and quick. Sushi and edamame were delish. Will definitely head back again maybe for happy hour next time!

Yelp
The decor and atmosphere are nice with a cool vibe. Love the bar!!! We celebrated my son's birthday here so the surprise Muchi at the end was the topping on the cake!!! Super nice and beautiful presentation with a candle! The drinks are definitely worth coming here! They're pretty to look at plus taste great! The food is good! I particularly enjoyed the shrimp and eggplant appetizer but the service was just average! I do prefer to get drinks when ordered and not have to request repeatedly but then again they were very busy!!! Yes, I recommend this place!

Courtney K.

Yelp
I still dream about this sushi -- what an amazing meal and experience! I would recommend this to anyone -- they're imaginative, but not in a way that compromises flavor or quality. They try new things (hello Doritos in sushi!), but also make sure that their product is top notch. Don't sleep on this place - go!

Jenny D.

Yelp
Food was amazing! The eggplant is my favorite. Raydon was the best server. We will be back!

Renee B.

Yelp
If you're looking for fancy sushi and Japanese fusion cuisine, tsunami is your place. This hip little sushi spot in downtown Lafayette is sure to please even a sushi snob. Everything I have tried has been delicious. The sushi is fresh and creative, and appetizers are absolutely amazing. They have a huge selection of sake if you enjoy that but also a good craft beer selection. One of my favorite appetizers that I have pretty much turned into my fave entrée is the eggplant miso with shrimp. This sweet yet savory dish is eggplant cooked to shear perfection! I also appreciate that there are plenty of sushi options that don't contain that snow crab mush, that I cannot seem to escape in Acadiana. Literally every roll that most restaurants in this area make have imitation crab in it. I appreciate that Tsunami has more premium sushi recipes than most restaurants I've tried in the South. If hip & creative sushi is your thing, check them out!

Maia T.

Yelp
Food was amazing! As always Service was great as well! We will be back Shrimp fried rice, salmon pesto roll, and cupcake YUM

Heather G.

Yelp
Food was great. Service wasn't as great, but it wasn't terrible. Not very attentive in the bar area. Very neat place and my new favorite sushi restaurant for this area.

Erica S.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere are great at Tsunami. I enjoyed the food and the featured drink.

Kisha R.

Yelp
Decent food quality. Unfortunately it is also noisy. If you want decent sushi, try them but it is in no way exceptional.

Steve B.

Yelp
OMG!!! I just drove in from Dallas, 8/18/23, and staying in the area. I was hungry for sushi and found Tsunami at the bottom of the list, #19 on the list on Yelp. Well, for me it is #1 downtown Lafayette. I was born and raised here, moved to LA in the early 80's and Dallas in 2008. I've traveled the world for both business and personal and the sashimi and rolls are out of this world. I date at the sushi bar, Nathan was my server and he is an asset to the facility. He was on top of his game, he made sure I had what I needed when I needed it. I highly recommend Tsunami Sushi if and when your in Lafayette, i called my wife telling her how good the food/service was. I will definitely be back with my wife. Steve

Brooke G.

Yelp
Awesome food. Awesome service. Definitely recommend sitting in Kendrick's section! he gave 5 star service throughout our stay!

Tremaine R.

Yelp
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I can't remember the waiter, but he was soooo sweet. Due to the current coronavirus I had to order to-go. The waiter was very friendly. When I'm here I like to try new rolls. Last time my best friend and I were here I tried one of he's and it was so good, I had to try it, but couldn't remember it. All I could remember was the texture; the Wooster rand I literally went down the entire list until we found the correct one #BigTuna. I suggest this too: Tuna, cream cheese, with a touch of Sriracha.

Cajun K.

Yelp
The sushi is terrific. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. Sushi masters here are talented and serve well-balanced rolls. Fish quality meets expectations. They have other menu items for folks who do not care for sushi. Prices are respectable. There is a parking lot adjacent to the back of the building. Take caution at night.. would recommend parking with or by a friend. Generally, it's safe but I wouldn't take any chances.

Clare A.

Yelp
Great food and great service! Prices are a little high for the serving size but the sushi is wonderful, especially the Big Easy. Wonderful cocktails, I recommend the Blushing Geisha.

Angie T.

Yelp
Tsunami is in downtown Lafayette and it's popular so expect a wait if you don't have reservations. We didn't but our wait was only about ten minutes. While you wait take in the hip and modern atmosphere. It is such a cool space! We had the following rolls- Black & Gold - shrimp tempura, cucumber, kani, baked with spicy mayo, crawfish and scallions, Tsunami & tsurai sauces and for dessert- Green Monster - coconut shrimp, snow crab, cream cheese, cucumber, kiwi, avocado, strawberry, coconut flakes & plum sauce. Both were great and I'm glad we came here. Service was a little slow but they were busy as heck the night we went.

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Food, service, and ambiance was excellent!! The staff took excellent care of my family on a trip to visit my daughter at ULL. Sushi was excellent and everyone enjoyed their experience.

Larry B.

Yelp
Great food, service, and ambiance. I've been numerous times and plan on returning many more.

Carly W.

Yelp
consistently clean fish, beautiful decor and a really fun place - love their specials and happy hour!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Omg! Every time I visit Lafayette,La. From out of state I come here!.... Never disappoints! Food, drinks, atmosphere, and service "top notch"...... better than other high end restaurants I've been in ..... and in bigger cities! A hidden gem! I wish I could give them more !

Holly M.

Yelp
The sushi was amazing, I definitely recommend the Happy Feet Roll. I also had the spicy tuna roll which is something I get everywhere. It's a bit spicier than the normal selection but also still very good. Even the Miso had a great flavor, not watered down at all. The place was a little chilly inside but the welcome was warm. Our waiter, Evan, was fantastic. He was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and made the experience great. We arrived during their happy hour, they had a special on drinks and some of their rolls. They also honored us as military members, which is something we appreciate and will bring us back again. Thank you, Tsunami for the pleasant anniversary experience

Dean C.

Yelp
Location, location. The food here was good and services was good. You are paying for the location and it was expensive for what you get. There are so many good places to eat out side the middle of the city that offer a better bargain. So good food yes. Good value no. The place is very small and you feel it. Chairs were very uncomfortable as well.

D H.

Yelp
Fantastic fantastic meal! With the family! Multiple types of nigiri sushi, dumplings, and a sunflower special. Such a wide variety of tastes and flavors Our waiter, Evan, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. As we were leaving, he didn't have a to-go cup so he sandwiched a paper napkin between two plastic cups a fixed me up with fresh coffee! The service was amazing and so was the food!!

Carlos S.

Yelp
Great sushi and great service! Definitely a great date place to have sushi and drinks.

Megan B.

Yelp
Thomas is so funny. Everytime I come in to Tsunami, he always has the funniest things to say! He has always been so hospitable and kind. Thomas knows what hes doing and is worth keeping around. Live laugh love Thomas.

Yelp
Wow, its been some years since I've been here, and so much have changed.. their food is soooo much better than I remembered! Everything was delicious and service was awesome! We had the following: Ika Fries - fried strips of calamari tenderloin served with a spicy mayo for dipping - calamari fried to perfection and a great app while waiting for the entrees Cisotaki - thin slices of seared USDA choice tenderloin with ponzu, sriracha & ciso sauce - tender and soft beef, very flavorful Pimped Out Sunflower - (off menu) thin sashimi slices of seared tuna in spicy ponzu served with tobiko, masago, scallions, and quail egg, but with extras (pimped out) - this is one of the main star dishes of my night, tuna was superb and everything about this dish went well together Sumo Ribeye - 24 oz bone in Allen Brothers beef grilled to your delight, served w/asparagus and ginger caramelized onion butter - beef was very tender and delicious, the ginger onion butter, was awesome We had a few rolls, these were the ones I remembered: Transbestbite Cupcake Happy Feet I remember all the rolls being really delicious. Definitely a place to get sushi in Lafayette!

Jenn T.

Yelp
Everything in the original Tsunami, Lafayette is amazing! The sushi is so fresh, staff sweet, bartenders make real cocktails, ambiance awesome. There really isn't much I can complain about, unless eating too much counts. When in Lafayette, stop here for dinner. You'll thank me.

Annie C.

Yelp
I have had sushi many times at many different places. However, I always find myself comparing sushi restaurants to Tsunami. It is pricey so I save it for special occasions. They've never let me down. The Lava Roll is hands-down my favorite.

Cameron C.

Yelp
FAVORITE SUSHI. always fresh and sooo good. the roll tide is my favorite. they have spicy edamame (not on the menu) but it's a must get every time you go. Miso soup is so good as well. love the staff and environment.

Danny L.

Yelp
To my surprise, Lafayette actually has good sushi, and Tsunami is the proof! I started off with the calamari for appetizer. I was pretty amazed. This was probably the best calamari I have ever had. There was something different about it. I don't know if it's the sauce, the way they deep fried it, or what... but I had to say hands down it was the best. I don't usually make this claim either. I'll for sure order the calamari again next time I stop by. We sat at the sushi bar where they make the food in front of you. The person we had was really good, friendly, and pretty funny. I think having that kind of service makes all the difference. We ate as he made more sushi and continued conversation. As far as the sushi. It was great. I'm not a sushi expert, but it wasn't buffet quality. Everything we ordered tasted just right. This place is pretty expensive, even for lunch so bring a big wallet. It's sushi though, so what do you expect. Note: If you don't eat fish or sushi, don't bother coming here. We had a member in our group who couldn't eat most of the stuff on the menu, hoping there was going to be fried rice on the menu lol

Linda G.

Yelp
What the hell! I have eaten sushi from Lafayette to Hong Kong and when Tsunami opened its doors it was a real contender. Since moving back south I have but two or three options where I can eat sushi and I am stunned at what they serve for the price they charge! I just picked up a to-go order of sashimi of two Salmon, two Yellowtail and two Tuna! There were two slivers of the three types of fish in a container and that was it! One could read the newspaper through such a thin cut. I mentioned something to the girl in the front and she just stood there looking sweet as she is hired to do, so as I was walking out and by the sushi bar I could not stop myself by shaming the Asian guy behind the sushi bar. I told him that I had been a customer since they opened their doors but what they sold me today was a disgrace. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of it originally, then he looked at the container with the three slivers of fish and resounded, "my guy did it, let me fix it." He takes the container and recuts sushi to replace what I had and he improved it greatly by tossing a flower in with it. I asked, "do you not have daikon?" He looked at me and I could tell he knew that was a staple for sushi, and shrugged his shoulders and responded, "no, we don't have that!" Well, God knows what they make off of their alcohol sales but they should be ashamed of themselves for what they serve as an order of sushi! A true disgrace and an epic "RIPOFF!"

Brittney G.

Yelp
Food was better than the service. I was automatically charged 18% gratuity for 2 adults, 1 -15yr old, 1 - 8 yr old, 2 - 6 yr olds, and lastly a 5 month old. A total of 6 eating, 2 adults and the 4 children. Given the option, I would have left more gratuity than I was charged had I received adequate service. The server had zero desire to be at work on a Thursday evening, good thing for the tasty food. Service gets a 0, for the food, I give a 4.

N W.

Yelp
So, overall, I enjoyed the sushi. This mediocre review is for the price point. Special rolls run $16-22, basic rolls run $6-10, and even a little bowl of edamame is $6-7. Wow. I never paid that high for sushi and this isn't even a big city. I'd go back but only for happy hour.

Dustine D.

Yelp
Come here to eat all the time and it's always wonderful!!! Came here during Patty in the Parc.... I understand they are busy but that's no excuse for the bar tender to be rude.... Very rude.... I am far from prejudiced but ... He was the only Dark skinned Bar tender and not only very rude to myself but on a different level rude to my fiance. I would stop going....just DUE to that experience and I will definetly tell everyone I know!

Shea F.

Yelp
Great sushi and service! Cool vibe. Server was super knowledgeable. We went on ladies night so one of the martinis and sushi rolls were 1/2 priced. Enjoyed my time!

Kim B.

Yelp
I'm giving them 5 stars for making my husband and I consistently happy. Sushi is always great, the chefs are always happy, the wait staff is just as vibrant. The atmosphere is young, modern and also laid back. You can come here all dressed up or in your work out clothes. (Which I'm guilty of) Our favorites are : the seared tuna, rainbow roll, the sumo steak, green monster roll and all of their martinis! Make sure to make room for their tsinful tsunami! You won't be disappointed!

Tim L.

Yelp
I don't really like sushi but every time I go here it's amazing I come every Tuesday for the special tsunami is a great place to go!

Eric G.

Yelp
Best sushi in Lafayette. I ordered the Zach Special and a John Breaux roll on Waitr and got $5 off using code Local5!

Jeff W.

Yelp
Great food and service also Bo Bo behind the sushi bar is awesome for a guy that's only been there less than two years he's got it down...

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Best sushi in Lafayette! Highly recommend the baked salmon and green eyed monster roll!

Kit G.

Yelp
I wasn't feeling all the well the day my wife and i ate here so i did not have much. But my wife did and she loved her sushi. The place looks great inside. Clean, modern, with a friendly and professional staff. I will definitely be back to try more. Located in the heart of the downtown area so very convenient for whatever is going on. And in lafayette there is a lot.

Mike P.

Yelp
Great sushi restaurant for a reasonable price. A must try is the Eggplant Miso appetizer!

Allison G.

Yelp
We picked up sushi to go and everything was phenomenal! Each roll was fresh and tasty and we loved the unique combinations that you can't find at just any sushi place. Everything was also packaged nicely so by the time we got home there were no spills or rolls that had fallen apart. We will definitely be back!

Mary D.

Yelp
The eggplant and shrimp appetizer is amazing! We also had the snow crab bowl which was light and delicious. Since it was my birthday, the waitress brought me a chocolate brownie with great vanilla ice cream.

Carla S.

Yelp
Tsunami has a modern, lofty, artsy vibe to it. It's a laid back restaurant with a cool flair. We ordered the Dragon Roll and Happy Feet roll which we're both great! Happy Feet roll was the best out of the two, as it was savory and filling. The Dragon roll was more light and fresh. Our waiter, Logan, was pleasant and knowledgeable. He also made a great Appletini to my liking. My only complaint is that the plates looked a bit dingy for this type of restaurant.

Matias M.

Yelp
This is one of the best (or the best) place to eat sushi in town, it has many varieties and great appetizers. It is always fresh and the flavors are amazing. The service is also very good. It is a place to visit in Lafayette.

Frankie M.

Yelp
Four of us went to dinner on Wednesday the 11th at 6 PM. We walked in the bar had a private party but the young man behind the bar waited on us and told us just to let him know if we needed anything else while we waited for our second couple to join us. At 6:15 we were seated after they arrived and our server said her name was Brittnie. Since my husband and I had never been there she explained all the specials. Explain the one special and then allowed us to all just settle down and enjoy our drinks while we looked through the menu. She came back and we decided to try some appetizers! We started off with some Cisotaki-thin slices of seared USDA choice tenderloin with Ponzu Sriracha and Ciso sauce. Ika fries-Fried strips of calamari tenderloin served with tsurai sauce & eggplant miso, tempura flowered eggplant and shrimp tossed in a sweet miso sauce!! Everyone loved those three choices for the apps. Then she came back and explained some of the different roles and Nigiri! We chose several items because there was four of us. The rolls we chose were the Leon special which is temp shrimp, snow crab, cream cheese, cucumber, topped with Kani crunchies. Tsunami and Tsurai sauces! Second what is the happy feet which is tuna, temp shrimp, snow crab, cucumber, jalapeño, soy wrapped, topped with salmon, kani, baked crispy onions, tsunami and kazan sauces! And followed by transbestbite-it is no rice, mints spicy tuna, tamp shrimp, kani, Cream cheese, asparagus, soy wrapped and Panko fried with plum, ponzu, & Tsurai sauce!! And as if that wasn't enough we figured why not go all out since it's our first time and get three different of the Nigiri sushi!! We selected the tuna, the smoked salmon, and the octopus. Everyone loved this dinner. We also ended it with some hot purple sake. Probably the best feature of our meal and our evening was our server Brittnie! She came back many times made sure that our drinks were always filled and if we had any question she was there to answer them. She made us laugh many times and it was an all-around great evening. I suggest if you're going to tsunami in Lafayette you ask for her to be your server you won't regret it. Now a funny story to end this great night. So, by the end of the evening everybody is pretty liquored up except for one person lol! My husband picked up the tab and he wrote a tip of $24 looked again and thought he changed it to 44. In the middle the night he woke me saying you have to take money tomorrow back to the restaurant I think I cheated our server we laughed about it. I called the next morning spoke to Mike the manager who laughed and said it's not a big deal I told him we were bringing in $40 extra because we felt very embarrassed!!! Lol Then I called the friends that we went to dinner with and they said they saw that my husband had only written $24 and figured it was the sake. Lol So they left her $20. Lol I went back the following morning Mike the manager let her know. I left an envelope with a note explaining what happened and $40, so she ended up making $84 on a $200 plus table! Which she deserved! I put my phone number in there and she text me telling me it wasn't a big deal she thought it was funny when she found out what it happened and she couldn't wait to see us again! So, we will be going back because she didn't make it uncomfortable or embarrassing for us. Neither did Mike Who said they have never received a phone call from someone saying I think I owe my server more money. So if you're ever in Lafayette I suggest you go downtown and hit tsunami You won't regret it!

Claire G.

Yelp
I haven't been to this place in YEARS! I'm shocked at the other reviews on the price and service. The price seems fair compared to other sushi places that have the same vibe and standard. Our server was super great a knowledgable about the menu items and was attentive without being overbearing. I started with the garden salad with soy sauce dressing - only complaint here is that the lettuce was chopped super large so it was difficult to eat with feeling like an idiot - other than that it was great! Moving onto the entrée, we got several sushi rolls but since I don't eat fish, and especially not of the raw variety, I stuck to the John Breaux Roll (spicy crawfish and avocado) and the Ragin Cajun Roll (Panko fried alligator, avocado, spicy mayo. and tsunami sauce) both were really great! Glad to see that this place is still thriving in my hometown! Hopefully they can keep the service consistent so others can have the same experience that we had!

Amit A.

Yelp
Best sushi in town. Excellent service with the freshest sushi. Excellent specials with top cocktails.
