Tu Kab Khao

"Set in a grand Chino-Portuguese building, Tu Kab Khao is an elegant, atmospheric restaurant. Portraits of the Royal Family grace its walls, along with one of the owner’s mother, Khun Linchii, whose recipes inform the menu. The cuisine is distinguished by high-quality ingredients – don’t miss the subtly spiced crab curry with rice vermicelli. The front area has a homely feel while the Portuguese-tiled rear room offers more privacy. Live music adds to the mood." - Michelin Inspector

A Phuket-style restaurant that’s really famous among tourists definitely worth a try! The flavor of each dish is amazing and truly delicious. The place is beautifully decorated in Phuket style. The only thing that could be improved is the staff communication. If there’s an issue or discussion, it would be better to talk privately rather than in front of customers.

The ambiance is wonderful and the service is of a good standard, which set a high expectation for the meal. However, the chicken Massaman fell short. The flavours - which should be aromatic blend- were overpowered by excessive spiciness lacking the subtle balance this dish normally offers. The meat, tiny chicken legs, are tasteless and tough. Wrong cut for this dish.

Food was excellent! Serious cooking skills. It’s a but pricy if you take one dish alone, they are supposed to be share. The proportions are more than generous. The pork was absolutely crazy delicious 😝

A solid restaurant with solid entries. Almost all the food we ordered was good, especially the local stewed pork, everything else was just good but nothing to write home about. The restaurant was equipped to serve children unlike most of the restaurants I visited in Phuket (had high chairs and toddler cutlery). The only big minus, and it was a big one was that their menu listed steamed snapper, but they served us sea bass and tried to argue with us. Thankfully a quick Google image search proved that we were correct. They refunded the order and that was the end of it. No apologies whatsoever for such a miss. Make sure if you order the snapper you get a snapper.

Tu Kab Khao in Phuket Old Town ended up being one of those spots that feels a little fancy but still homey. It’s inside this old Sino-Portuguese house with velvet chairs and high ceilings, and honestly just a nice place to sit down after walking around the street market. The vibe is laid-back, and our server, Kan, couldn’t have been nicer, she kept checking in on us, explained a couple of dishes, and just made the whole thing feel even better. Food-wise, the pork belly stew was the star, tender, rich, and exactly the kind of comforting dish you want with rice. The salt and chili prawns were another favorite, with just the right amount of spice and crunch. Nothing felt overdone, just simple dishes cooked really well. Between the atmosphere, the food, and Kan’s friendliness, it’s definitely a place I’d go back to next time I’m in Phuket.

Was in town and walked past this well deco place. Saw it was Michelin starred. Was given a table despite being fully booked. Very authentic and delicious at affordable price.
