Tu Metapán Restaurant - Review - East Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"Tu Metapan makes some great pupusas - they’re perfectly cooked and generously filled, and they’re only $2.50 each. Aside from pupusas, there is also a large selection of El Salvadoran platters with rice, plantains and your choice of protein. These platters are great for sharing, but otherwise are lacking any significant flavor." - Joel Ang

Google
Ordered on uber eats.. pupusas de frijoles con queso are advertised buy one get one free. This is not true. I ordered 2 and only got 1. False advertising Edit to respond: then why does it say “Buy 1 get 1 free”? I ordered 2 frijole and 1 pork separate

The pupusas were delicious! They were made pretty quick and packed in a ton of flavor! Dine-in is offered. However, the customer service could use some help.

Google
Always a great service, this has been our place for years now. Sometimes the music is a little louder than usual, feels like I am at the club and not a restaurant. Anyways, the food is great and prices as well.

Great food, excellent service

Google
I do a lot of reviews, and I leave a lot of good reviews, but this has to be one of the rudest and most disrespectful places I've ever encountered! My sister placed and order with them but forgot to pick it up because she had to rush home to her baby, she is a new mother. Because she did not pick up her food, the restaurant messaged her saying... " if you don't pick up your food and pay us, we will post your picture in all our groupchats and on every corner for being a thief..." She did not "steal" anything, she simply forgot to pick up her order due to a family emergency and now they are threatening her over a miserable $50 bill. What kind of gang run business is this! I hope you get shutdown.

Google
Great authentic Salvadoran food. Whenever we come down from NH, we stop here to eat.

Google
My first time there and I have to say the food was excellent. I ordered a Chicken quesadilla that was the best one I have ever had.Filled with tasty chicken, rice, cheese, cream and cilantro. I left out the onions and tomatoes. It came with a nice fresh side salad too or you can get fries if you like. The Restaurant was exceptionally clean and the woman who took my order was very nice.My order was done in about 10 minutes.I will definitely be back to try some more of their menu.

Google
My family and I were regulars, fair to say we know in life things occur out of the blue that we have to tend to. Today was one of those days for me. I received a text from a “Oscar” who searched my number & sends me messages via WhatsApp harassing me for not picking up an order I placed. Claiming I’m a “ladrona” and “trampoza.” I have never seen such a level of unprofessionalism as I have experienced today.

Yelp
I have been going here for years. I moved last year so I occasionally make a special request to come here for special occasions (1.5 hr drive). I have recommended this restaurant to many friends and often post them bc on my social media. During our last meal here, we dined in and I also had ordered 10 pupusas for to go (costed about $30 for the to go order) When I came home, I tasted the pupusas and they tasted spoiled. i recalled tasting the sourness at the restaurant when I ate a pupusa dined in but I thought the salsa/ tomatoes was from a sour batch. I tried to contact the restaurant Facebook through messaging just so they could be aware of the problem... they left me on read and then blocked me. Very unprofessional. I'm very disappointed because this was one of my favorite restaurants, but my bf is happy he won't have to drive 1.5 hrs to Boston anymore. Bad experience but very good food when it's not spoiled.

Yelp
Getting food from here made me realize how much I miss Taco Bell. I ordered a side of queso, and it was a slab of cotija cheese...The pupusa was so so dry, but the salsa was too hot to help $6 for guacamole but not even a side of tortilla chips? The tacos has cilantro but didn't indicate that previously so no option to request it to not taste like soap

Yelp
Over all good. Very unenthusiastic with the salad that came with the quesadilla, but quesadilla tasted good. It was very messy though and more like a burrito sandwich. The Gordita and tostada was really good! I would get again, but probably wouldn't order tacos here given the lack of taco toppings.

Yelp
The best everything good. I've brought about 5 different cop workers different times and they loved it so much they come in there own. My favorite is the pupusas when don't want a heavy meal

Yelp
Got two cheese pupusas for $5.75. It's cheaper if you pay with cash or their store gift card. The pupusas were fresh and tasty and the salsa was delicious. It also comes with cabbage. It's counter service and there's plenty of seating if you want to dine in.

Yelp
Wow what a find!!!! I know everyone says best guacamole about their favorite Mexican restaurant but really this was fantastic. Hint of Cilantro and lime. Another plus corn tortillas!! If you are going to eat great food-you can be healthy too. The Gorditas were more than a meal by themselves. The flank steak was tender and moist and smothered with onions and tomatoes. The owner brought out a relish bowl filled with pickled jalapeños and cauliflower. This was my first venture into an el salvadoran restaurant and all i can say is it is much higher quality than any mexican restaurant at the same price point. My friend and i feasted like royalty for under $30..

Yelp
Local gem! Small and clean joint with great options. Papusas are a must if you are going to try this place. The salad with the papusas is yummy too. They have a house made hot sauce that is amazing if you are into spicy foods.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place was amazing !!! They start you off with chips and salsa and their menu is huge ! A lot of options ! It was hard to pick everything looked amazing. I got the Carne Asada plate and the meat was huge served with a generous portion of rice, beans and salad. I would absolutely come back very very soon ! Great customer service !!!

Yelp
One of the best Salvadoran food in the Boston area. Highly recommend. The portion size was amazing and the people working there are extremely sweet. Montaneto, pupusas, and sausages with fries is what we got. All to go. Everything was wrapped up so well; presentation stayed in tact. The pork strip and steak in the montaneto was beautifully seasoned and the texture was perfect. They also serve fresh juice. It's a bit on the sweet side but I'm not complaining. Highly recommend this place :)

Yelp
Had the cravings for authentic tacos and pupusas with Horchata to wash to down. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Really good food and the prices were good too. Stands out from the other options in the area.

Yelp
I am very confused! Im not the kind of person to write bad reviews but... I moved to the area few months ago and tried a couple place around for habichuela, chicharones and rice. Last night I wanted to try somewhere else and see, since I havn't find any location as good as one that I used to go which is too far now. I read good review on yelp, I was sure and just so excited to try this place out. I got out the Train and walk there, the place is kind of small. I asked the lady what I wanted, chicharonnes, platano, beans and white rice... no more white rice, and 20minutes wait for my food to go... Okey. I was thinking 20minutes, the restaurant is empty it's 8:30, I will get good " fresh " food... I paid $20. And when I got home I was disappointed almost wanted to go back and return the food. I love cooking spanish food, but it was late and didn't feel like it. I thought it would have been a great idea. I am sorry I really wanted to like the place and the food but I definitely can't. The beans where the EXACT same taste than the red Goya beans, the rice was normal. And the chicharones ( pork belly ) was so dry, TOO slaty ( and God knows how I like salt, this time was too much !!!! ) and it was two small pieces... and I got platano which was okey. In 20minutes I could have done better home made food than this for $20. I order for 2, and the portion wasn't definitely for 2. Im used to spanish place with good ammount of food, with a lot of flavors and stuff. I love pretty much eveeything and Im not very picky. But this place...... I will definitely not go back. Sooo disappointed!!!

Yelp
Just visited this place for lunch. East Boston isn't a place I find myself in very often, so I try to visit a new restaurant most times I'm in the area. Ordered a simple Pollos Fritos meal and "some water." Apparently this is automatically interpreted to mean a bottle of water. Look, this is a small detail, but generally in my experience, the server should inquire whether or not you want a bottle, rather than automatically assuming. I NEVER order bottled water in restaurants, so this was frustrating. The Pollos Fritos meal was tasty- extremely crispy chicken, rice, beans, fresh thick tortillas, and a salad which was undressed and seemed unnecessary. Portion size was tremendous, so this will definitely feed me twice. Always a bonus, in my opinion. I'd give the food experience alone a 7/10. Service was extremely lackluster. After being served, the waitress completely disappeared and left me waiting for quite some time for the check. During this time I got to watch another staff member walking around openly talking on the phone, unable to get the check and takeaway box I desired. When present, the server was pleasant (I like rhymes). I'll not be back.

Yelp
Authentic and very affordable Salvadoran food. Tu Metapan is authentic to the core, from the employees to the usual diners, and from the menu to the music. Prices are affordable and portions are very large. On my visit I tried the bistec encebollado, the shrimp soup, and the pupusas. The surprise of the meal to me was the steak. It was very tender and very tasty. It also comes along with a salad, rice, beans, and some fresh, thick El Salvador-style tortillas. The shrimp soup was large and had a good amount of shrimp and veggies inside. The flavor was good and the soup was comforting. My one objection is that it was a bit creamier than I was expecting, especially compared to some of the other Central American seafood soups I'm more familiar with. Then again, I can't say that this was not how they have it in El Salvador specifically. I was a bit let down by the pupusas. They were not bad, but in my experience sit-down restaurants just don't get pupusas right. They have to be greasier, with some of the filling sometimes spilling out a bit and getting caramelized on the griddle. Overall though, the meal was delicious, authentic, and very good value. Definitely worth a visit for an authentic Salvadoran experience!

Yelp
We ordered from here yesterday while we were staying in the city - quesadilla was amazing! Not too much cheese, which I am used to and have to take off with a fork - rather, just enough cheese to taste it and so much flavor from other ingredients. Yum! The fried chicken with rice and salad was good, too - but the chicken meat was rather tough and dry inside. But still pretty good, and salad was fresh. Very generous portions and only $7, $10 respectively. Also, no problems with delivery. Arrived on time, and the restaurant called me as soon as it was delivered to confirm. I shared the meal with my 4 year old daughter, and she wants to go to the restaurant to eat next time. :)

Yelp
Came for lunch the other day and the food was delicious! The pupusa was fluffy and stuffed with beans and cheese. I shared the plato especial which came with steak, chicken, shrimp, rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. Everything was delicious, the steak was juicy, the chicken moist, the rice flavorful, and beans soft. The portion was huge, 2 people shared this entree and we still had leftovers. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We've had great food via delivery on several occasions. Love their tacos al pastor and burrito adobado. Tostones are good as well as guacamole.

Yelp
I was introduced to this place by my close friend. I've been here twice now and both times the food has been very good. It's a no-frills place which is where I always seem to be able to get excellent cuisine all over the world! Give a try and I think you will enjoy it.

Yelp
As a Salvadoran American I truly love this place! They have $1 pupusas (traditional food) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which makes it a delicious deal! The burritos here are also great, its what I usually order. They're very tasty, filling, and full of flavors. They give you a choice of salad or fries and hot sauce on the side. The staff is also very friendly. The girls are attentive while dining in. You can't go wrong at this place. Very affordable for East Boston. It's definitely a restaurant to visit while in town if you're looking for authentic Salvadoran cuisine.

Yelp
Pretty good pupusas... ordered one bean and cheese and one Chicharron Salvadoreno. They were super cheap ($1.50 each) and came with an entire tupperware full of curtido (self service i guess)... and we ordered a side of crema. Also we weren't super hungry - def. order more than that when you go. After we ordered we were given chips and salsa while we waited - which i thought was above and beyond since we really didn't order very much food. We asked if they would deliver to boston and the short answer was yes... but the long answer was complicated (no)... so i guess we'll just have to save our Sivar cravings for east boston trip days. Cute place. I'd go back - but nothing to add to the "crave" list.

Yelp
Walked over here from my hotel and was planning to go to the taqueria next door but they're closed on Tuesdays (?!?). Reviews for this place were pretty good so I gave it a go. Went for the mixed pollo plate and a mango milkshake and don't regret it. I could eat fried plantains all day long. Probably not the healthiest meal I had all week but I was in the mood to see what Salvadorian food was all about. I could be persuaded to knock off a star for having two TVs (showing different shows) and a radio going all at the same time.

Yelp
I love the fresh food here. I mean, I've gotten burritos and nachos, but man they are delicious. Plus the staff is super friendly. Try it out!

Michael ..

Yelp
Really good spot. Kind people, and authentic Salvadoran food. The only thing is the chicharrones and yuca that I ordered had VERY little chicharrón.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place , clean and nice food I always eat my veggies there !!!and are so fresh and crunchy !!
google avatar

Richard K.

Yelp
Very cheap, delicious Mexican/Salvadorean food here. Service is great, they really want to make sure you enjoyed the food. They also serve cole slaw at each table is a big tub, so you can help yourself, it was excellent! I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Flor G.

Yelp
I did a 30 minute commute just for the pupusas because I'm salvadorian and I haven't had them in so long and they were truly authentic which I didn't think I would find in Boston the sauce was really good and curtido/ cabbage slaw . The orchata was bomb and my food came out in less than 15 I will be returning

Katherine R.

Yelp
First time going there since there's not a lot of Salvadoran places in my city. I got a steak burrito and is was huge! Price is good and it comes with Fries! I wish they had there own hot sauce but other than that it's a good place and the flavor is amazing! Highly recommend.
google avatar

W G.

Yelp
For the price of one meal you get the portion if two meals! Food is fantastic; service is very friendly; and my favorite is the bucket of pickles! P.s. They have cashew juice.

Christina C.

Yelp
I've gotten delivery from here a number of times - all good experiences. I picked up food from the restaurant once, and the whole place smelt like a porter potty. I could not get over the smell and haven't been able to stomach the thought of eating from there again. It was so gross.
google avatar

Josie K.

Yelp
First of all, this is SALVADOREAN, not Mexican. Big different folks! The fish soup and pupusas are one of the best in Eastie, as well as the curtido accompaniment. $1pupusas on Thursdays. I also had an awesome broiled tilapia with ridiculous portion of rice, beans, salad; and think traditional homemade Salvadoran tortillas... I made myself sick gorging. Order the papaya shake with water with it.

Lendy B.

Yelp
The food is very good, but service is horrible and they very rude. I call to place an order for the delivery and the lady sounds like she was not happy to take my order and it sounds that she was not paying attention to me and it was annoyed to talk in the phone and I decided to cancel my order instead, it sucks because the food is very good and fresh, my review is more for the service.
google avatar

Rebecca D.

Yelp
Food is just delicious here. The (huge) taco salad was as fresh as can be and the steak ontop was cooked perfectly. We always get a few of everything to share (pupusas, tamales, tacos) and we're stuffed by the time we're through. It's pretty inexpensive, as well. Put that crema on everything - it's what I'm talking about.
google avatar

Martha A.

Yelp
I was searching for Atol de Elote (a warm sweet corn drink), but found the best Queso Fresco!!! I ordered the Tipico Salvadoreno and it came with lots of items, but the queso stood out. The atol hit the spot and the re-fried beans had good flavor. The chicharon was a bit dry but still tasty. Next time I'm in Boston I will visit this place again.
google avatar

Gita N.

Yelp
The service is very slow, even when the restaurant is empty. The food is good but most waitresses don't speak English so you have to order in Spanish. They always get my (customized) vegetarian order correct though which is a plus! Try the homemade jarritos, esp mango flavor or horchata. Don't get the guac unless you're willing to add lime/salt to it yourself and order chips on the side bc they don't come with it. The waitresses will not come check on you while you eat, they don't even refill your drink so you have to chase them down if you want something

Moira O.

Yelp
Oh Tu Metapan, you are so tasty! Your meats are always delicious and very affordable. Whenever I visit you there is never anyone else dining.. why? how can this be? If you're considering going, GO.
