Seattle Writers Share Their Go-To Restaurants of 2022 | Eater Seattle

"Whenever I’m craving it, I get a chicken club from Tubs Gourmet Subs and dunk it in ranch." - Adam H. Callaghan

Google
Tubs Gourmet has really great sandwiches for the most part!! I loved the Grinder, however I wasn’t t a big fan of the California one.

Google
This place used to be some of the best sandwiches you could get in the area. Consistent and exceptional standards. They have fallen far from that standard unfortunately. Barely any meat and ingredients not as fresh. The build of the sandwich used to be layered, thick, and neat. Now it’s sloppy and thin. Mostly bread. Really bummed they have lost their magic.

Google
I just had to share this sad sandwich… my boyfriend and I traveled hours to pick up tubs subs based off a recommendation to enjoy and eat at a park.. you could see my disappointment as I finally sat down to enjoy it. There is NOTHING on this, but maybe a single slice of salami. It’s genuinely bread and a tomato with a few pieces of lettuce. $12 sandwich. What a let down Tubs Subs :(

Google
, I’m writing regarding an issue I experienced today at your Lynnwood location. I ordered a chicken caesar salad sub and questioned the price when it rang up as $15, since I had seen a smaller size listed on the menu. I was told there was only one size available, so I proceeded with the order. I also purchased chips and a drink. When I opened the bag in my car, I realized I had been given a chicken caesar salad, not a sub. I immediately came back inside to explain the mistake. Unfortunately, the employee insisted that it was my fault and refused to correct the order. I want to be very clear: I asked for a sub, clarified the price beforehand, and ordered sides that would normally accompany a sandwich. I would not knowingly spend $15 on a basic chicken caesar salad when it is significantly cheaper at many other restaurants. I was disappointed not only by the incorrect order, but by how the situation was handled. A simple clarification or remake would have resolved the issue. I’m hoping you can look into this and advise on how this can be made right.

Google
I’ve been coming here almost my entire life, and I have yet to get a sandwich anywhere else that compares, so figured it’s time to write a review! The sandwiches are always perfect and use fresh ingredients. Staff are always friendly. Pricing is totally reasonable; I pay the same amount at chain sandwich shops and they aren’t even close to as good. I drive out of my way all the time for Tubs, I wish they’d open a location closer to Seattle!

leia

Google
came here for a quick bite and the bread alone deserves a plaque of recognition. I got a tokyo club and everything on the sub tasted fresh.

Google
Wow, my coworkers told me about Tubs! The sandwich was absolutely delicious! Coming from the East Coast, I’m picky about bread, but theirs was perfect. Honestly, I feel stupid for not ordering an extra full-size sandwich to take home! By the way, I ordered chicken Amiga💕

Ashlei N.

Google
This is my favorite sandwhich on the planet! I’m Shocked to see one star reviews and disappointment. I drive(often) all the way from north Lake Stevens just to get the California sandwich with garlic mayo. I’m 39 weeks pregnant and it’s my number one craving as well. It’s Christmas Eve today and my hubby is driving all the way there to get me a sandwhich haha I wish they would make a location closer to home of course but until then I’ll make the drive every chance I get! Also maybe try to be nice to the staff, tip them, don’t butcher the sandwhiches off the menu and it would be a better experience for you?

Yelp
Good quick service. Order at counter. Limited seating, but most seem to be grab and go. Fun selection. Chicken was chopped not lunchmeat, which is awesome. Fair price.

Yelp
Second time in and same great experience! Great sandwiches and now they have a big selection! Fast service and clean establishment!

Yelp
I'm visiting from Arizona and I was looking for a delicious, local sandwich place and Tubs Gourmet Subs did not disappoint. I ordered the Tubs Trio with a small Cajun Turkey sandwich with Ranch for dipping and it was delicious. The sandwich had the right amount of savory and spicy for my taste. I included a soda and chips, and the entire meal was under $14. I had to wait about 7 minutes for my food, but each sandwich is hand crafted and made to order. The employee at the counter who took my order was helpful and knowledgeable. There is plenty of seating inside, but there are also chairs outside. I'm only here for a few more days, but I will be back!
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
I am having the thanksgiving sub and it's amazing. Their regular subs are a good hearty sandwich all the time as well but I love a festive one! This has turkey stuffing cranberry and bacon! People are nice and the inside is a basic cafe seating.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
I got a California, I think, which is turkey and avocado and blah blah, the usual. The ingredients were all good, but the bread was *perfect*. Soft center, crisp edges, absolutely beautiful. The garlic pasta salad was delectable, and while the sugar cookie didn't really knock my socks off, my companion liked the chocolate chip. Got takeout, so I can't speak to the rest, but I will definitely be ordering again.

Yelp
Pretty sure this was my first time having Tubs! No wonder it is SO popular and everyone flocks here for their subs! FRESH BAKED BAGUETTE that they do for their subs -- this is their speciality/ go-to! Tender, soft, delicious, like I could eat how many of these! I got the French Dip! This was marvelous and I LOVED the au jus sauce. BF got the funky bird. Prices are a little up there for a small sandwich so if you're really hungry, go for the large. They cater too! The staff works as a team and they really do well with the orders (at least in this location). People mostly do take out than order in, they just have a few tables.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
The inside is pretty small but there are a few tables you can sit at. It is plain but cozy. The parking lot is small but there were some spots open during weekday lunch time. We went during lunch and ordered two sandwiches. It was really busy but only took about 10 minutes to get our sandwiches. Everyone was friendly. I thought the sandwiches were pretty good. They have nice quality ingredients. The bread isn't too hard, but still nice and sturdy. I thought it was a little pricey for the amount you get. The ingredients are nice but the size of the sandwich for the price is a little much. I will come back when I want a really good sub sandwich again.

Yelp
This is hands down one of the best sandwich shops in Washington, and praised by many "top 10" lists. I have been eating at TUBS for many years, and will miss the lake city location, however the trip to Lynnwood is well worth it for one of the many specialty sandwiches they carry. The staff is always nice, and food is prepared quickly, Recommended trying the JOKER'S DIP and the FIRECRACKER. Also make sure to try the BBQ sauce, as it's amazing!
google avatar

Mara S.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in town! The bread is incredible and the sandwiches always have generous portions. Can't go wrong with the Grinder or the Firecracker, two of my favorites.
google avatar

Michaela D.

Yelp
The food was great, the staff was quick and friendly. I wish there was a menu board, right now you have to wait until you're up front to grab a paper. Worth a try though, and deliciously made! Really enjoy all the garlic used
google avatar

Raymond H.

Yelp
Tubs is a solid sandwich spot. Tucked in to an unexpected mini mall it's an easy spot to miss. Lots of options on the menu but they manage to do everything well. Decent sides, affordably priced to boot. I'm a sucker for the turkey cranberry.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are delicious, every single one I've tried has blown me away with unique flavors that work together. The bread is always crispy and ingredients taste fresh. Service has always been great when picking up and although I've never eaten here the restaurant has been clean. My top favorites right now are... The phoenix: kind of reminds me of the costco turkey rolls (I love them!) but in a sandwich form - so good with their crispy bread. The firecracker: I didn't think I would like this but I was wrong. The flavor work so well together between the bbq, spiciness and cheese - it's perfect!
google avatar

Erin N.

Yelp
One of my favorite if not my favorite sub place in Seattle! I'm a sandwich snob and this place is the absolute best! Now that I no longer live close I find myself craving a godfather every time I visit. 10/10
google avatar

Fred R.

Yelp
Ordered for the first time in store. Got The Joker sandwich. It was delicious and the dipping sauce really made it. I was afraid that a toasted bread would be crunchy and dry, but it was just perfect ! Can't wait to try the other sandwiches!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Fantastic subs! The bread is where it's at. I love how it's almost like a toasted sub sandwich, but really, it's just the bread that seems like it's fresh out of the oven. It's like a soft yet crispy outside strong enough to hold the contents in the middle. I got the special which came with turkey, bacon, a lemon vinegrette, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The sandwich was delicious, but there wasn't a lot of meat. My boyfriend got the California sub and really enjoyed that too. Small portion of meat in his sandwich too. Great place for a yummy sub sandwich. I highly recommended and am already craving another sandwich from here.
google avatar

Tribecca B.

Yelp
Delicious! The meat is such good quality; you can taste the difference from other sub shops. I got the grinder and my daughter got the godfather w/salami. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food. The small size is more than enough! No complaints.
google avatar

Jackie E.

Yelp
They share a parking lot so it can be occasionally busy, but on the 44th Ave entrance side there's usually a spot whenever I come. Great service and tasty food. Will return. (I've now reviewed all Tubs locations! They're consistent across the board which is extremely helpful.)
google avatar

Jilliene B.

Yelp
The sandwiches are amazing! I don't live in the area but my bf always brings me some. I have tried at least 3 and they never disappoint. Even a day later they still taste just as good!!!

Joe M.

Yelp
Got an order of sandwiches not long after the store opened. One of them came with a big long strand of someone's hair. Disgusting.
google avatar

Jeannette F.

Yelp
Easy ordering. Customer service was ok. When I ask for the bathroom key code the clerk was a little short and rambled off the numbers really quickly, I had to ask another time. Bathroom was clean with nice warm water and soap. The sandwiches were good but I was expecting real chicken pieces not processed deli sliced meat. My bad, I should have asked I guess. It came with a huge cup of BBQ sauce, I felt bad throwing half away. Next time I'll ask for less.

Yelp
- Best sandwiches in Washington!! - First off to note, I prefer Subway over Jersey Mikes-- I'm that kinda sandwich person; I need sauce, punchy flavors, and need toasted bread!!! And Tubs delivers that for me. Though I'm sure there is a sandwich for everyone! - I love their Italian sub, firecracker, and spicy tuna. Drool!! - I have yet to try other subs because these are already so good but I don't doubt the selections on the menu are just as incredible. - Portions are great btw. - Quick service and you can online order ahead too
google avatar

Erin-Elizabeth A.

Yelp
Wow. Would not expect to find such delicious sandwiches tucked away in a little spot like Tubs. The bread is incredibly fresh with the right amount of crust to softness. Fillings were unique and generous. I had the Funky Bird and it was SO GOOD. Marked one star down because the staff was a little short with us, but would still go back another time.
google avatar

Kimberly Z.

Yelp
Great hot subs unlike other places in area. Best to order online ahead and go pick up if close to dinner time.
google avatar

Noureena M.

Yelp
Today I tried the joker which comes with a side of tangy bbq sauce. I was skeptical but it was warm and not too thick just right for pouring onto each bite of deliciousness adding a unique take on the sub. It's a must for now on for me.

Yelp
Tubs has been around since the early '80s, and this gourmet sandwich eatery has an extensive menu offering tuna, ham/bacon, turkey, beef, chicken, and vegetarian sandwiches, in addition to salads and kid options. We came here for an early lunch, and ordered: +the Phoenix - a toasted baguette with garlic mayo, cream cheese, raspberry-chipotle sauce, cheddar cheese, turkey, and bacon, with lettuce and tomatoes +the Godfather - a toasted baguette with garlic mayo, pesto, roast beef, hard salami, Parm, and provolone, with lettuce and tomatoes +the Tokyo Club - a toasted baguette with honey-wasabi mayo, sliced avocado, roast beef, bacon, and provolone with cucumbers, lettuce, and tomatoes The sandwiches are super generous in size and easily shareable between 2, maybe 3 people, and well-stacked. The ingredients are fresh, but I wish they were more heavy-handed with the sauces/spreads. The place gets extremely busy, with in-person ordering as well as call-ins. There's limited seating inside, and a couple of picnic tables situated outside. Parking is available, but can be filled up quickly; however, most get their orders to go, so you'll be able to grab a spot in no time. +various gourmet sandwiches, easy shareable +efficient service +limited seating +parking available in shared lot
google avatar

Heidy W.

Yelp
First time in and it did not disappoint! Quick service, efficient staff, clean establishment, and reasonable prices. The sandwich was good, but it was difficult to find more than just a couple grilled onions, and the cookie was a classic with its big and puffed up size and a light crumbly texture. Definitely will be back to try more of their vegetarian options!
google avatar

Sherry T.

Yelp
If you want a sandwich that's 95% bread and 5% other, Tubs is the place for you. I'll likely be constipated for days. The end.
google avatar

Zach D.

Yelp
The best sandwiches! I have actually physically never been inside Tubs but order lunch on DoorDash all the time. It never disappoints. Portions are big so you can share or save some for later. There are so many options and everything is so good. By far my favorite sandwich shop.

Pam T.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch, parking lot was full. Had a sub it was good; I would rather have less bread and more veggies. Seems like the bread took over the taste of the meat and little bit of veggies. They bread on the counter you can buy, asked the guy helping me how much he say's "I think $4.00 each" so I took a bag off the counter. The guy turned around and said something to the making subs and they both looked at me funny. I asked if I did something wrong and he just looked at me. Boy I felt an inch tall.
google avatar

Alisa W.

Yelp
Delicious sandwich's!! Tried various ones and they were all tasty. I have only been to this place a couple times now. I try to eat at this place when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Mason J.

Yelp
Has amazing sandwiches. Staff is very friendly. The vide is awesome sandwiches to make your day.
google avatar

Erin E.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I got their Cesar club. It had potential but, in the end, just felt like oily soggy, warm lettuce. Which did not sit well. It was really disappointing. I feel like the potential is there, but the execution was not. :(
google avatar

Shane M.

Yelp
These sandwiches are not cheap. The bread is good. I had a tuna roll sandwich. There was barely a drizzle of the honey wasabi mayo. There was no cheese. The tuna was unseasoned, and of garbage quality. The cucumbers, two slices, were crisp. Grade D. We had a Philly dip. The au jus was flavorless and kind of nasty. The beef was meh. The peppers were okay. The bread is good. Grade? D. The meatball sub special? Bread is great. Meatballs were over cooked dog food. Not enough sauce. Was there cheese? Grade? D. A plain kids turkey Sammy. Turkey was good. Lots of lettuce. Good tomato. Bread was great. About the right mayo. Grade? C+. So this was a bust, and we won't be going back. I tipped 20% on a fifty something dollar order for 3.5 sandwiches. The sandwich guy was ice and pretty efficient. Terrible value.
google avatar

Dean L.

Yelp
We still love the competent service and delicious sandwiches here. Recently, I've enjoyed the Texas Turkey. Though because their bread is so good, I imagine all of the sandwiches are satisfying. Even though they're $15, we like to get a large and save half for lunch the next day.

Susan D.

Yelp
The best sandwiches & salads in the state! Quality ingredients prepared daily. All fresh and delicious.
google avatar

Naja L.

Yelp
This is a true GOURMET place with emphasis on flavor and goodness in each bite. First of all, I'm not a sandwich person. I detest cheap cold cuts and empty carbs from bland bread. I avoid it at all cost if I can. Wow, wow, wow, the sandwiches at this place are INCREDIBLE! My son knew of this place and begged to come here as we didn't feel like the regular options. I tried their sandwiches first time yesterday and came back again today with husband because I couldn't get the flavors out of my mind. I had the Godfather and added Au Jus as extra (recommended by another reviewer). I literally drank the rest of the Au jus after the sandwich, it was that good. My husband had the Firecracker with BBQ sauce to dip in, and thought it was amazing. Our son loves the Chicken Amiga. The baguettes are perfectly sized and baked, the dressings/mayos so good, the cold cuts are thin with loads of flavor. I mean, I'm already deciding which one to try next time. Great, fast service! Awesome ambiance. Busy place for a good reason.
google avatar

James J.

Yelp
Lousy service bacon on sandwich was raw Usually dont have a problem here maybe its just there weekend staff
google avatar

Stephen R.

Yelp
Wow! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by this place. The photos don't do the sandwiches justice. A must try if you are in the area! The bread is fresh every day and the quality of the ingredients doesn't disappointment. We will be going again.
google avatar

Teresa F.

Yelp
I've never been here before but saw good reviews. I ordered a small Italian combo sandwich. I usually don't get the sandwich toasted but today just took whatever they prepared. I was very pleasantly surprised! The bread was lightly crispy but with some soft dense bread inside. The sandwich was really good, much better than any other sandwich shop I've tried (I think I've tried them all)...the meat was sufficient, there was a good combo of veggies inside (tomato, lettuce, red onion, banana pepper...) it tasted very much like a good home made sandwich. I'd definitely recommend this place and will come back again!

Olivia J.

Yelp
The best sandwiches we have found in Bothell. our new favorite lunch spot. Casual and consistent.
google avatar

Carly C.

Yelp
This spot is doing a good job. I probably would give the other Tubs another shot before deciding anything major. To be really transparent, the "hype" and reviews from this spot made me expect more. I wish the sub was better. I tasted the Tokyo sub, along with the firecracker one. What they do well is they make unique subs that you would not find at Subway or Quiznos. The flavor profiles were impressive. However the bread, eh- dry, hard, too much. Not enough juices or flavor coming though. Imo the bread was what held it back. I also sensed that they rushed through the sub. While I am grateful for the efficiency of my order, I've really just can't say that this was "that good"
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Tubs is such a gem. Ordered 6 platters for a work function and they were all ready to go and looked great! Always taste great too. People at work were very impressed with the ingredients. The only issue I have is what sandwich to choose from but an issue to have overall!
google avatar

Marissa G.

Yelp
This place never fails. Every sub I've tried has been so delicious. My favorite was the Texas Turkey which for some reason isn't on the menu anymore however the Firecracker is 50/10 amazing and my new fav!
google avatar

Ruth B.

Yelp
Joker dip 100% yummy filling sandwiches. Firecracker Sandwich also pretty dang good. .

John P.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are PERFECTION! The secret is in the awesome rolls they use, they crisp up nicely when toasted but not to the point of being a challenge to bite into . I would call them sandwiches more than subs cause there are some chains out there giving subs a bad name. These are NOT those. Good balance of wet to dry ingredients and good quality too. Awesome crew of staff working hard and fast. It's local and it's just the definitive sandwich shop.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Great location with ample parking. Counter style ordering via a paper menu. Lots of choices but wanted a classic turkey sandwich. I was charged to add one extra topping which was dissapointing. I did not see a list of optional toppings. $15 for a large sub, no drink or side. No fountain sodas. Cookies or chips only? My sandwich was extremely underwhelming. Hoping I just ordered the wrong thing? It lacked flavor and freshness. Clean interior.
google avatar

Sherry W.

Yelp
This place really hit the spot when I was craving a nice hearty sandwich in Lynnwood. I got the Italian, the California, and the Tokyo Club and it was a great variety. The California was a standard sandwich for when you're trying to be healthy-ish. The Tokyo club really surprised me - I got it because I like roast beef with horseradish but this had honey wasabi instead and the flavors were super good and well balanced! The Italian was tied with the Tokyo club for my favorite as I loved that it was full of oil and seasoning to make it super flavorful.
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
Best subs ever. I highly recommend the Italian with green bell peppers and cucumbers. Its amazing.
google avatar

Ava M.

Yelp
Me and my husband always get the godfather sandwich. It tastes really really good. You have to give it a try.
