Evil Jungle Noodles! a brilliant way to enjoy a sunny Portland afternoon.
It's fun to get lost, just wandering and seeing what the world has in store for you. It's one of my favorite things about living in Portland, that it still has secrets and surprises, just waiting to be found. Like a world-class Thai restaurant just a few blocks away from my girlfriend and I's favorite art supply store, Artists & Craftsman Supply.
We'd eaten at King Burrito too many times (if that's even possible), plus my GF was on the lookout for some veggie eats. Were hoping for Thai and were beginning to lose hope until Tuk Tuk pops up out of nowhere, answering our prayers in each and every way.
First off, i got to try a new Thai dish i'd never even heard of. The evil jungle noodles, apart from having the best food name that isn't a Sizzle Pie pizza, is a delicious sauce-based curry served on a bed of rice noodles. The basil and red curry blend with the sweet, smooth coconut milk in the most scrumptious way, sweet and savory at the same time. Tuk Tuk's ratios were exactly on-point, with enough heat to please the fire-eaters while still letting you taste the delectable flavors.
The chicken was marinated to perfection, tender as you please. My girlfriend's tofu was the same, if perhaps erring a bit on the saucy side. We were both immensely pleased, especially with a giant ice-cold Thai Iced Tea to swirl it all down with.
A perfect afternoon, a pleasant surprise, a reminder to wander and get lost. Fabulous service, reasonable prices, and a bright, spacious location seal the deal. We'll be going back. We recommend you do the same if yr ever in North Portland/Mock's Crest/Saint John's, or if yr just looking for some top-notch Thai Food.
