Restaurants in Historic Buildings

"This sleek, striking building is a beautiful example of Estonian Modernist architecture. Designed by Valve Pormeister and completed in 1964, it is sited in an elevated spot and affords distant views of the Gulf of Finland. Following a meticulous restoration – which was recognised by the National Heritage Board – it was reborn and relaunched in 2015. The blue Volga motor car outside hails from the Soviet era in which it was first built, and the retro-cum-minimalist interior is flooded with light from its floor-to-ceiling windows. The concise menu brings things up-to-date by offering a range of modern dishes with a Baltic heart; however there are Asian and Mediterranean influences at play too, so expect plenty of originality and some intriguing flavours." - Elizabeth Winter

"This iconic building was constructed in 1965 and some of its original modernist features still remain, giving it a fashionably retro feel. It's set in an elevated spot and affords lovely views through its floor-to-ceiling windows out towards the Gulf of Finland – and its terrace is the place to be come summer. Cooking has a Baltic heart but also features some Mediterranean, Asian and even South American influences, with dishes ranging from the likes of lamb dumplings to a seafood tostada. The presentation matches the skill of the cooking techniques, with some stunning-looking creations." - Michelin Inspector

Estonia's First Two Star Restaurant Is Unveiled!

"In Tallinn, this spot occupies a lovely location, with a terrace providing great sea views and an interior sporting a retro look; the cooking comes with a creative element but is rooted in the Baltics and offers lots of enjoyable contrasts in textures and flavours." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

To be honest we ended up at Tuljak by accident. We wanted to check out a place close by, as i didn’t really fancied the menu at Tuljak ( not fish & seafood fan ). Somehow the greeting in the other place made us leave straight away and we decided to give Tuljak a go. The greeting was a little frosty too but we let it pass, as the interior looked good and my partner really was hungry. The restaurant was kind of empty, as we entered at about 2:30ish. It suited us well to be honest. Good tunes as background music. Small menu but we both like our starters, mains and the dessert. Service at the table warmed up more with every course we had. In the end we really enjoyed our late lunch. Truly amazing food. We can only recommend this place. Come before the sun sets on the horizon..

I spent quite some time thinking about where to invite my colleague from Asia, Tallinn has many great restaurants to choose from. In the end, I decided on Tuljak, and it turned out to be the perfect choice: a magnificent view of the sea, an ideal spot to watch the sunset, excellent service, and a menu full of interesting dishes. We started with Heeringas and Tartar Tuljak, and both were outstanding. The tartare is honestly one of the best in the city. For the main course, I tried the lamb dumplings — very tasty with a subtle smoky note that made them special. And of course, no visit to Estonia is complete without traditional black bread, which was served here as well and Vana Tallinn at the end. Highly recommended!

Tuljak was one of the dining highlights of Tallinn. The restaurant combined a stylish setting with very polished food and service. Kristian, the waiter who looked after us, was outstanding — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaged, which lifted the whole experience. The beef dumplings were rich and perfectly cooked, the burrata and tomato salad was fresh and balanced, and the bread basket was served warm with excellent texture along the butter & meat. Each dish had been prepared with clear care, and the pacing of the meal was handled with precision. The restaurant itself had a refined but comfortable atmosphere, with design that matched the quality of the food. Loved their lamb dumplings! Tuljak showed itself as a place where both the kitchen and the floor staff were aligned to deliver at a high standard. It was one of the meals from the trip that deserves to be remembered as a complete experience. Considering that I live between Dubai & Copenhagen, I found the prices to be VERY reasonable. I however, respect that locally the view isn’t necessarily that.

We went to Tuljak for our anniversary dinner and honestly, it couldn’t have been better. The vibe was super cozy, perfect for the occasion. The service was top-notch. our waiter really knew the menu and even suggested wine pairings that worked perfectly. We started with bread and butter plus shrimp, which already set the bar high. For mains, we had the sea bass and a filet mignon. the steak especially was insanely good, hats off to the chefs. Everything felt really well-prepared and flavorful. Overall, it was such an amazing evening. I’d 100% recommend Tuljak to anyone looking for great food and a warm atmosphere. Definitely coming back!

Visited in Sep 2025 What a fantastic decision it was to have my first meal in Tallinn at Tuljak. The food menu is an a-la-carte one with a set of starters, main courses and desserts. Since I was quite hungry, I ordered a couple of staters (Tuljak Tartare, Herring), one main course (Lamb Dumplings), and one dessert (Bird Nest). The quality of the ingredients, the preparation, and the presentation of the dishes was brilliant. Service was fine. Would 100% recommend visiting this restaurant if you’re in Tallinn.

When you visit Tallinn, definetly visit Tuljak. (Usually needs a booking). This Michelin red star restaurant has amazing sea view and summer terrace and offers Estonian food with modern twist. The favourites were herring (very interesting approach), bread and ham plate, califlower and eclaire (not in menu but offered). The minus - no kids room and kids were not really allowed to hang around, which might be a challange with smaller kids.

Food was amazing, diverse and well-priced. Service was good, but we visited during slow Easter hours so difficult to review how service is during busier hours. The building is beautiful with a good view of the sea. Highly recommend visiting.
