Nômadé Cocina Review - Bouldin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Inspired by the jungles of the Yucatán, Nômadé is a Mexican restaurant and raw bar that looks kind of like a cross between a fancy resort you’d find in Tulum and a very nice treehouse. It’s a mostly outdoor dining area—but it’s covered and heated because Texas weather is unpredictable—with lots of plants and earthy accents. It’s from the same team behind , but instead of Peruvian-Japanese fusion, the menu here leans heavily on seafood dishes inspired by the Yucatán. " - Nicolai McCrary

Google
Had a great experience. Came early on a Friday & they had Happy Hour. We got several tacos. They were very good. Service was great. Loved the homemade salsa & tortillas. Nice drink selection. Very good margarita. We'll definitely be back.

Google
Food was mediocre, but drinks were yummy. Ensalada Tulum was suppose to be strawberries but they gave me tomatoes. The lettuce was soggy and watery. The pineapple went well with the beef and the burrito was nothing special either. It’s a great stop if you are starving but not the best mexican I’ve had. Piña colada was YUM tho. Salsa was watery and almost like pasta sauce tasting. We had a huge group like 30 people so it was hard to be attentive with all the needs. They did a great job.

Google
Tulum Mexican Restaurant is, I think the third one or so to start in this location. We have been to the previous ones which were all fairly good; but could not sustain the business. (Perhaps Covid issues kept customers away ?) This was our first visit to this restaurant. Premises were clean and service excellent and friendly. We tried Cameron’s Chipotle ( pan seared shrimp in chipotle sauce with rice etc.) and Cameron’s Al Mojo De Ajo ( pan seared shrimp in garlic sauce with rice etc.). They served chips with salsa mixed at the table to the degree of spice level to your liking ! Also had Flan and Sopapillas for dessert. ALL WERE DELICIOUS. Overall, we enjoyed the the visit and hope they are here for a long time. Will visit again.

Google
The definition of 'phoning it in'. They have a great location, and the interior is decorated very nicely, and yet the bar area was lit up like it was last call, removing any chance at an intimate setting. They were also playing some top-40 pop mess which was totally out-of-place for the decor -- I'd expect either some classic Tejano/Mexican-inspired music, or some light instrumental music. The cochinita pibil seemed like someone tried to create it using nothing but word-of-mouth for how it's supposed to be made, I can't believe it was that bad. Dry pork, watery sauce that barely had flavor, and a giant slab of fat bigger than my thumb! The rice even tasted funky, like it was the last box of instant rice that'd been sitting on the shelf too long. Just compare the menu pic to my actual pics (the last one shows the fat berg)!

Dylan G

Google
Nice place, will definitely be back to try more! We really enjoyed the table side salsa and the guacamole. The Cochinita pibil was good too, as were the drinks! Prices are fair, staff are very friendly.

Google
Absolutely fabulous top-shelf margarita backed up with a solid single nacho style plate I don't know exactly what you call them but I prefer nachos that are laid out on a plate keeps with succulents steak and cheese. This afternoon was a solid 10 out of 10

Google
The food was awful! A beautiful restaurant but lacking service and taste. It’s a shame too because they could be so much more. Mushy rice , tasteless beans …and $6 charge for a little chips and salsa …won’t be back.

Google
Decided to check this place out after hearing about it from a family member and I have to say I was decently impressed. We went during their Sunday morning brunch buffet, but ended up ordering off of the menu. I got a house margarita, and the Tacos Al Pastor. Not sure if they typically bring out chips and salsa like most places do, but that was alright with me because the entree portions were perfect. The Charro Beans that I had with the tacos were some of the best that I've had from a restaurant. The Al Pastor tacos hit the spot, but were nothing to write home about in my opinion. Overall, the experience was good, and I'd recommend trying it out if you're looking for some decent food. I saw that they have DJ's come out and play on the patio some nights, so maybe the night scene is a little more lively and impressive.

Yelp
Not sure what's happening with this place based upon reviews but went there to discover an amazing ambience, impeccable service, interior Mexican cuisine, and yes, stiff but well constructed Margaritas. I've never visited Tulum, Mexico to know whether a restaurant should be named the same as beach town south of Playa de Carmen, but it was great for lunch. The menu includes a wide range of traditional and interior Mexican dishes and so extensive it will certainly satisfy all. From queso, cerviche, quesadillas, stuffed jalapeños. Nachos, and really great guacamole. I had the chili con queso and guacamole and both were outstanding and chips were some of the best. I tried the enchiladas pollo en mole which was served hot, plenty of mole with fresh refried beans. The mole was very excellent, savory, and complex. I do highly recommend it compared to other restaurants. At first, thought beans were bland but come to appreciate a restaurant making their own and was a good compliment along with rice to the mole sauce. Also ordered the green verde enchiladas which only had two but was very good too. The top shelf skinny Marg was outstanding but their Paloma was too small and seemingly served from a small flower pot. Brunch menu looks good along with their mimosa specials so looking to return. The service was fantastic. The bar and overall interior very upscale. If you can sit by the window, this is the best location. Large patios for larger parties. Lastly, Santa Caterina has a competitor just north on 620 in Hudson Bend.

Yelp
Ok NGL- I was excited about going to this place despite the recent reviews! BUT WHY did I decide to go against the reviews?? UGH! I tried to be nice. I tried to look to the positive side & give them a try! BUT WHY?! $90 later & now I'm like - I work hard for my money ! This restaurant didn't! The only reason this establishment is getting a star- is b/c of Ricky! He was the only waitstaff there- taking orders, serving drinks & bussing tables! Not sure what else- but for sure those tasks b/c I witnessed him w/ my own eyes! The $30 fajitas for ONE-$30! WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! Did you read - HO-R-R-I-B-L-E! ALL I tasted was NOTHING! Just chewed the beef. NO FREAKING FLAVOR! NO SALT ! NO PEPPER! NOTHING!!!!!!! The onions weren't even grilled! $30!!!! Can you believe that! I work hard for my money and at least this restaurant should care about what their customers deserve. NOTICE- the small amnt of beans/rice- the cheapest item & can't even give you a full scoop! By the way they weren't tasty either! Queso was decent. Salsa- skip! Tomato sauce- chili flakes and garlic/onion powder. Nothing else. Top shelf marg- GREAT! $14. But still couldn't make up for the meal I wasted my money on! Maybe the owners should put in some time in this establishment & not rely on staff to make the money for them. Shame on you! Not returning FOR SURE! By the way- only 3 tables were occupied- this should have been a HUGE red flag! Two bar areas & zero ppl at the bar... hmmmm... ADIOS AMIGOS! PS- normally fajitas come out sizzling HOT- NOPE not here! Nothing was sizzling about anything here-as you can tell

Yelp
I really enjoyed the restaurant. The food was good. I would say the black beans need some more salt and pepper in them. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. The service was good.

Yelp
So sad. This place used to be amazing. I see now why their doors were closed for a while...their cooks must've quit. I ordered what used to be my favorite thing on the menu & it didn't even have all of the ingredients listed. The service & current chef did as best they could with what they have, but it was obvious that the establishment is trying to save money any way they can. The quality of the steak used in the quesadillas is chewy & terrible. The owner is doing everything they can to save money & it is going to cost them their restaurant.

Yelp
We walked in with a party of 8. No one was there but 2 tables. We asked for a table outside for 8 and the lady rolled her eyes and started slamming the menus together. When I asked for a kid's menu as well she looked at me like I'm wasting her time and we walked out how she was treating me.

Yelp
I'd hate to give a 1 star.... Gf and I wanted to get out and planned on going somewhere else but with traffic is was too far, so we decided to stay close and have been meaning to try Tulum for a while, the menu looked good. Left feeling like we should've just drove the hour to our original plan. GF and I just wanted to go for happy hour. I will say the waitress was kind, and the food wasn't terrible which saved it from a 1 star. No plans of returning unfortunately. We ordered a coconut marg, and a house marg, quesadilla with chicken added, and barbacoa tacos. After a few minutes the waitress comes back and lets us know they didn't have the coconut mix, wasn't a big deal to us. Only 5 other people there, our drinks took close to 10 minutes to come out, still not a big deal. My margarita tasted like a really really dirty martini... We finished the cilantro/jalapeño dip and asked for a refill, waitress left and came back to let us know they were out... Odd but okay. About 10 more min go by and I'm informed they're out of barbacoa... alright...my gf and I don't get upset easily, but this started to be demoralizing lol. Then my gfs quesadilla comes out, it has chicken, but has loads of onions, peppers, and mushrooms, which wasn't indicated anywhere. It was just $2 for chicken. She tried to pick everything off but it wasn't worth it, I ended up eating 5/6 slices for her. Really bummed, seems like this place is on the way out judging by other comments. Random hours, out of quite a few standard/important things. I really hope they can turn it around and make it.

Yelp
A first rate upscale Mexican restaurant. An absolutely welcome addition to the Hunter's Bend scene. Fish tacos with big thick wonderful tranches of fish Served with first rate flour tortillas, a tremendous green sauce, and good other garnishes. (Hey, cilantro is cilantro.) First rate chips I could not stop eating. A red salsa that I could easily stop eating - But hey - something has to go on those chips. Until I figured that nothing had to go on the chips and The chips immediately vaporized into my mouth. But the headline story still is the fish taco which is one of the best fish tacos in Metro Austin. Note - that they appear to be having major problems with DirectTV. I think there was a billing problem - which I suspect on a new restaurant has less to do with actually paying one's bills and more to do with screw-ups at the cable company. That said, they would have been wise to just turn off the TVs altogether. Things that don't work have a bad effect on customer experience. But the rooms are nice, the service is great and the food is everything I would want from "better than a food truck" Mexican. Thumbs up. * * * Note that my review is more enthusiastic than those of other Yelpers. A few comments. a) They are on soft opening. So there is a clear learning process that is in progress. I had one server who genuinely seemed stumped and puzzled about everything. My other server was first rate. Training will solve this one. b) There are LOTS of complaints about the bar. I didn't drink. If you are going to drink, you may want to stick to tequila shots for a while. c) Fajitas are controversial. d) I disagree with the other patrons about the tortillas. Mine were excellent and were first rate for what I wanted them for. e) I ate inside but some people complain about being outside. I am not sure how solid the outside seating complaints are. The next door neighbor bar has a million people outside and they seem happy. I actually arrived at the Tulum by foot, so I know exactly what it was like outside. Outside was pretty nice when I was there. That said, training the servers, getting the mix-mastering right, and working out the fight with DirectTV would seem to be high priorities here. Everything else is working nicely. I intend to come back.

Yelp
So bad, overpriced food and drinks. Food was nothing to write home about. Either step up the quality or lower the prices.

Yelp
I visited on opening day but held off on the review to be fair however after experiencing some of the same issues today I feel compelled to write this review in the hopes that they will get their act together. Bar drinks: took forever to get 2 drinks. top shelf marg is too sweet, not balanced, lacks the acid component. Food: 2 of the 4 entrees ordered by our party were cold. Not just lukewarm, but literally cold. The rice and beans on 1 other plate were also cold and lacked salt and seasoning. The chili relleno is not grilled (per the menu) but heavily battered and bland. Not much chicken. Beef enchilada was average. The only good thing was the table side salsa. Service: I can't fault them because they are understaffed, but it also feels like there is lack of training or cohesive plan in seating and assigning tables to staff. Sadly we will not return for a while. I'm hoping they will improve over time. We need good well-run restaurants here.

Yelp
Closed again!!!! Just left and it's not open......I really liked the people and food. So sorry!

Yelp
I have only had one dish at Tulum, but I like it a lot. I Can remember the name but it's chicken breast with veggies, rice and beans. My friends have all likes their plates too. It's all delicious. The service and atmosphere are great, and they have a good selection of wines

Fred W.

Yelp
Notice the liquid at the bottom of my salad bowl. Salmon was pretty good. Overall very mid.

Yelp
We were staying in Lake Travis close to our dr appointment. We decided to try this place. I was pleasantly surprised. We will go back
google avatar

Yelp
Wow this was a great spot. I like there is a Tequila Bar because that isn't offered most places. In fact I learned a lot about Tequila which I think will cause me to be more thoughtful in requesting drinks with a very specific tequila. I recommend all the items on the menu though I was originally just looking for a queso place. That was a nice surprise! You might check out Tulum in Mexico to if you travel there. It makes a lot of sense that would be the name of this restaurant.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Just came again to Tulum and the food is still great, service and atmosphere spectacular! Adrian is the General Manager and the whole staff is working over time to make this place a success! Ask for a top shelf Mexican Martini is the skinny version and fantastic. Their standard frozen margarita is still great and actually better than most places which is saying a lot! Come check out and support this place!! Three big TV's to watch sports and a very clean place!!

Yelp
Visited for lunch today. It's their soft opening. The food is very good. The ambiance is on point and their drink list will have us coming back for dinner and/or happy hour.
google avatar

Arnab B.

Yelp
Food was below average! The burritos have so much cheese on top, it looks like Enchiladas. The tacos were ok type and the tortilla soup doesn't have much flavor. The service was good and servers were very friendly.

Kay R.

Yelp
I just experienced the same thing as Jackie J. We went for lunch today around noon, outdoor sign said open, but they were closed, and this wasn't the first time we found it closed after they reopened. We used to love going there, they had a great happy hour menu which was all day except for Friday and weekends. Did also notice the happy hour menu posted on website no longer had our favorite tacos the chipolte chicken and barbacoa. I'm also done with this restaurant.
google avatar

Alice K.

Yelp
Wonderful new find! Great food, cute interior and very friendly service. I have not tried the brunch yet but will !

Mel C.

Yelp
We've been here for both brunch and dinner. The dinner was bland, served room temp but the table side salsa was incredible! Takes a while to get the drinks and a solid 20 minutes to get the check after you're done eating and plates are removed. At brunch, a woman came up to our table and stared photographing us without saying anything. We had a semi-large party and a few photos in we all just started laughing at how awkward the experience was. About 10 minutes later the photos were brought to us in frames and a man stood over our table as he passed around the frames. I suppose they'd like their restaurant to be a tourist stop? We did not buy any photos. The migas were very good.

Tony K.

Yelp
Food was dry and overcooked, mediocre at best. In the past margs were good but certainly not today. They just can't quite get there. Food was returned to kitchen but showed up on bill nonetheless. Can happen but this was the second time.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
They make the salsa right in front of you and you can choose your spice level! The chips were freshly cooked and tasted nice. We got queso that we devoured so fast, I forgot to take a photo! Portion sizes were nice, honestly I don't normally give 5 stars but i have NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS PLACE!!
google avatar

Marc P.

Yelp
Went for brunch and would go back. Made to order omelettes good French toast, waffles, fresh fruit, and other things like enchiladas too. Liked the drinks, mimosas only $2.00
google avatar

Marie H.

Yelp
The Mole Enchiladas were very good but could have come with a little bit more Mole. Salsa a cut above a lot of other Mexican restaurants. Would like to eventually see Happy Hour wine prices. Great service and ambiance. Will definitely be going back! and bringing family and friends.
google avatar

Gregg B.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time last night. Was VERY impressed, and I really don't write many reviews. I had Fajitas Caribenas (which is a bacon wrapped shrimp dish. Absolutely excellent. My wife had Camarones Endiablados, which is grilled shrimp in a spicy sauce. She swore by it and promised she'd order it again. Top shelf margaritas were excellent, and they make up your salsa at the table to your liking. Service by Brett and Mariana were superb. Friendly and efficient. The ambiance was excellent given the remodeling they've done from the prior business. This is not your average Mexican food place...its a step above (or 2). Loved the place and will be back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican Food, amazing service and strong margaritas. Real authentic Mexican Food. The staff is so welcoming and on top of their game. One of the Best Mexican Food Restaurants in Austin
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
1st visit to Tulum after hearing friends rave about it. We came for Sunday brunch and it was delicious! So many choices on the buffet and they also make pancakes, waffles, omelets and eggs to order. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful and they have a nice outdoor area as well which is awesome now that the weather is finally cooler. We will definitely be back soon!

Jason M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, and personal. The waiter made the hot sauce at the table and asked how hot we wanted it based on the jalapeños. I thought was pretty cool. Ranch salsa, and guacamole was really good. Fajitas were a little chewy but the rice and borracho beans were on point.

Redemption S.

Yelp
It's cute that Lakeway has another spot to gather but can we seriously get these kids a new mop head and some fresh mop water between floor mops. The staff is so sweet and friendly- I adore them all. I want the chef to double the season and let's get some 24 hour marinades happening!
google avatar

L. H.

Yelp
This place is simply a rebadged Kitchen Del Mar. same owners, same ambiance. It's a shame this place has no heart and is nothing but a real estate investment vs a real restaurant and it's the employees I feel for most of all who are trying to do their best. If you go, take notice of the insane turnover and that should tell you all you need to know. This place is destined to fail and will cut corners and not pay employees just like the previous establishment. Should honestly be shut down for ethical reasons.

Alex Marsh ..

Yelp
Great atmosphere and drinks. Food was good too. Great spot close to my parents place. Love there is a new spot in the area! We will be back :)
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
Food was great, service on point and great ambiance. Drinks were amazing. My husband and I split that Al Pastor in the grilled pineapple! Was so good! We will be back!

Matt B.

Yelp
Had a wonderful experience today at Tulum! Nice people. Exceptional food. Large portions. The Fajita Trio with beef, chicken and carnitas was amazing. And, the Margaritas and Tequila options were extraordinary. Our server Auri was knowledgeable, helpful and just plain nice. And another server and server in training came by to prepare (and coach) the table side prep of the salsa. As we were leaving, a deejay was setting up on the patio for the night crowd. We look forward to coming back. We could become regulars
google avatar

Carol A.

Yelp
Awful food. Had hoped it for a great meal close to lakeway. Rare for me to trash a restaurant but this was just awful. The enchiladas were an embarrassment to Mexicans everywhere. My speciality of shrimp dipped in coconut was basically a couple of fried shrimp on some tired looking lettuce. Certainly not an $18 meal. Drinks and chips were OK. Skip this place unless you are feeding kids. Bleech
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Combo fajitas were great, the rest of our part enjoyed their meal as well. Ambiance was nice. 2 patios, 2 bars, and indoor restaurant space. Look forward to trying the seafood next visit.
google avatar

Jamila A.

Yelp
This was a really nice restaurant! The ambiance was great, the food was good but my virgin strawberry daiquiri was blah, and I felt the service was a bit slow. Giving them 4 stars cause of the DJ and karaoke!
google avatar

Dayna C.

Yelp
We were treated to delicious appetizers as part of a Lake Yravis Chambers meeting. I'm so happy to see the new and improved ambiance.
google avatar

Lauren Y.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food! They have the best chips, salsa, and guacamole we've ever tried and we've tried Texmex from Dallas, Austin, and Houston. So tasty! We liked their triple meat fajitas and really liked the flavors of the grilled onions, peppers, and carnitas. Their fish tacos were also very good. We really appreciated the quality and speed of their service as well as their flexibility in turning down the music on request and handling wheel chair accessibility. We'll definitely be back to try out more of the menu!

Holly H.

Yelp
Great neighborhood gem restaurant. The food is excellent, not too spicy. The service is very friendly also.
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday they seemed understaffed. Chips and salsa were just ok. Fajitas beans and rice were slightly better not great. Tortillas are a bit small. Quantity was good, but somewhat pricey. Might go back to try the cochinita -
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff, and exceptional service! Definitely coming back to Tulum again.
google avatar

Booger G.

Yelp
First time to try this restaurant. Service was good. Food was good. The salsa and the guacamole are both made tableside which is cool. A little pricey but expected that in this part of town. We will most likely go back again.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Two cool things about this restaurant: they make the salsa in front of you and the atmosphere is nice. Not so great: they only carry Pepsi products. They don't use any seasonings (maybe they were out of salt and pepper in the kitchen?). The "shrimp enchiladas" were queso (Velveeta and tiny shrimp) rolled up inside two corn tortillas with more queso on the the top. That's it. They should be called "Velveeta Queso Enchiladas." Our server was less than enthusiastic when we asked what were the popular dishes, and didn't seem to care when I told him I was disappointed with the enchiladas. The restaurant has a nice vibe, but that's about all it has going for it.
google avatar

Tony A.

Yelp
Best Mexican Restaurant for food, service, ambiance and live music. The food was authentic and fresh. The salsa made right at the table was great, the carnitas tacos were amazing and the tacos were so fresh.

Kelly C.

Yelp
Danny R was our waiter. Very attentive and nice. Food was great. Enchiladas Tulum and Al Carbon with steak was perfect with charro beans and rice. Ambiance is laid back and relaxed. I would highly recommend this place. Shrimp ceviche was also excellent!

Caroline B.

Yelp
Tried this place in hopes for somewhere new to go in the area. Food was subpar and came out cold. Would not recommend and would not go back. Overpriced for the quality of food.

Laura L.

Yelp
Upscale dining with a fun & unexpected twist on Mexican cuisine. This is the ultimate date night restaurant! Dress to impress & plan for a ride home as the drinks are Amazing! Service is A+++
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
The food is exceptional and price is great! Service was impeccable. We enjoyed this hidden gem and they have Mariachis after 7 on the weekend. It is so nice with outdoor seating and the drinks!! We loved the drinks, food and service. We enjoyed learning about the speciality collection and enjoyed trying them. The Pepino Piquin Margarita was my fav you can get it with or without jalapeño. Not hit just delicious. Try it and you will not be disappointed if you like margaritas.

Isaias B.

Yelp
Great service and very welcoming people The avocado is amazing. The atmosphere is good in and out of there
