The 15 Best Sun Valley Restaurants to Try Right Now - Eater

"Tundra quickly established itself as a powerhouse in the area. On Wednesdays through Sundays, the cafe’s kitchen whips up delicious new American takes on crispy tempura cod, French onion soup, patatas bravas, and organic elk meatballs, all served with a tidy and thoughtful list of bubbles, wine, and beer. Tundra serves diners inside and offers takeout. The few outdoor tables, adjacent to the main dining area, are generally not available during the ski season." - Scott Wink

Everything was delicious! We walked in on a Saturday night, no reservation. The place was alittle warm and they sat us facing a window so was hard to visit with each other. Also we never knew when the arm of our waitress Gabby would appear with more drinks, food. Other than that, great experience!

Went to TUNDRA for a nice birthday day dinner for my mom. Definitely need a reservation it is a small intimate restaurant. There is outdoor dining which we weren't offered when we called in our reservation. It is a wine restaurant so beware if you aren't into that. The food was great. Wine was delicious and the staff is knowledgeable about the wines and special beers they serve. The waiter picked a great wine for me. The trout was great. My mom ordered the duck it was great. The elk meatballs were just okay they needed more seasoning . I ordered the artisan bread basket it was great. We also ordered the special appetizer of morel mushrooms on bread it was fantastic! I would come again.

We have been here 3 times now, this year alone. Going closer to opening is much slower and quiet. The first time we visited was around 9PM and every table full. Amazing atmosphere. Great wines. Cozy. By far my favorite foods. We've had the Artisan Bread starter, as well as a Bruschetta. The Trout has been our *FAVORITE* SO PERFECT every time. The Gnocchi while a lighter dish/starter is what won me over my first visit, and brought us back the second time. Menu usually has the same dishes available. It does change sometimes. Creme Brulee - Perfection Carrot Cake - Unlike anything I've ever put into my mouth. Most expensive visit was this latest one at $63 before tip, and that was with a starter, a glass of wine, entree, and desert. Will visit every time.

Service was top notch, ALL staff was walking around, refilling water, taking plates etc. Food was incredible. Best trout I have ever had and desert was great too. Very friendly staff, clean restaurant and amazing food. What more could you ask for?

Google
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Each time I visit I leave raving about the food, the service, and the atmosphere. My most recent visit was with a group of 9 (including two young children). The restaurant is small for a group of this size, but they made it work flawlessly. Our server was articulate, organized and very polite. Every single dish that came out was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Bravo to the Tundra team for continuing to provide such a wonderful dining experience time and time again.

Google
Our early dinner at Tundra was fantastic, featuring perfect Idaho trout and exquisite lamb meatballs. Max provided exceptional service and expertly guided us through allergen information. We were thoroughly impressed with the decor, the service, and, most importantly, the food, placing Tundra at the top of our all-time favorites list.

Google
Thank you Dawson for the amazing service and wine pairing to our meal. I even gave him the opportunity to order for me and my wife and they did not disappoint. I’m a foodie and self proclaimed critic, and there was little to criticize. Amazing food and certainly elevated. I saw a sign out back that said food forward, and that was their performance. Please do yourself a favor and go here!

Google
Tundra is a great restaurant because they alter their menu accordingly with the fresh ingredients in season throughout the valley. It’s a low key quiet atmosphere with good service. Are usually order what one of the entrée specials and have yet to be disappointed.

Yelp
We ate here a few years ago. I never reviewed but would have given them three stars. Food was good, service was snooty. Just a three star experience. Kept seeing all the great reviews and decided to give them another chance. Glad we did. Calamari appetizer was very, very good. Pan roasted with a delicious sauce. Husband had trout which he enjoyed. My duck breast with cherry glaze was fabulous. Lovely bottle of Sancerre. Server was terrific. Knowledgeable, courteous and impeccable service skills. Just an all around enjoyable evening and happy to return.

Yelp
Small restaurant located right on Main Street, but very accommodating staff, that are willing to try to make it work no matter the size of your group. We started as 3 and ended up growing to 6 by the time the appetizers started rolling out. The Calamari was great and it's hard to mess up burrata so we enjoyed that as well. For my enteee I went with the elk meatballs and they did not disappoint. Hand made, hand rolled, and infused with some veggie chunks, and the sauce was seasoned perfectly. For desert I had the crème brûlée which I also throughly enjoyed. Tundra is on the pricier side at about $30/ plate, but if you're going to treat your self to a nice evening this is a great spot to do so.

Yelp
I wish I'd had known this was more of a wine tasting restaurant, and not very kid friendly. Service was pretty disappointing you have to dress fancy to get good service we were seated but ignored, yet when the well dressed people showed up they were served before us. Overall not very exciting food, especially for what you pay excluding wine.

Yelp
Wow! What a meal! From start to finish this place knows how to treat their customers. The food was superb. I wish I knew our servers name as he was outstanding. The mushroom goulash, the rack of lamb, the trout and the chocolate mousse were pretty much perfect! Oh, and the merlot from the Walla Walla area was so good! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Small restaurant with a great taste. Amazing chef and wine selection, perfect for a date night if you're looking for something special.

Yelp
What's not to like? The food, the ambiance, the friendly service, the presentation. Chef Daniel turns out attractive and delicious plates. It is wonderful to have a restaurant of this caliber in little Hailey. Go eat here.

Yelp
Tundra offers an wonderful culinary experience that you will remember for a long time. Dinner with friends last night was amazing. Service and food are wonderful. We started with cauliflower fritters and the prawns along with beer and wine. Delicious! We wanted the lamb shank for dinner, it was moist tasty and full of flavors. Perfect! Then the carrot cake which was so so good. Overall give stars and a great experience Go and enjoy.

Yelp
We went for dinner based on Yelp reviews and had not only a fabulous dinner but great, friendly service to go with it! We shared delicious salad, I loved my duck breast, and my husband had a wonderful pork chop. Nest time we are in town, we will definitely be back!

Yelp
We were in Hailey for 2 nights from Austin and our last night here we decided to try out TUNDRA before heading out. All reservations were full online so we just showed up and hoped they had a table for us. They had a spot at the window top seating available so put us there! The staff was incredible! So kind and informative. They knew the menu and specials by heart and all the best wine recommendations. Their wine menu is pretty extensive while their food menu is limited. I got the Crispy Tempura Cod and my boyfriend got the Idaho Trout. We were BLOWN AWAY. This was such a delicious meal. The presentation, the combination of flavors and ingredients...it was special. The Artisan Bread Basket even was outstanding! If you come to Hailey, try out TUNDRA! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Really good food, an excellent wine list to suit every taste and budget and attentive service. Highly recommended.

Yelp
What a lovely experience. Excellent attentive service, great food, inventive menu which was artfully presented.

Yelp
As I sit here writing this review, the thought of their spicy lamb bolognese continues to make my mouth water. The textures of the dish along with the taste were incredible. This is a restaurant I would be proud to bring my grandma to. The service was very prompt and attentive. You are sure to enjoy whatever Tundra has to offer!

Yelp
Just trying this tonight for the first time. Really delicious. Very impressed. Cool vibe and good food. What more could you want.

Yelp
Tundra is my favorite restaurant in Hailey. It's right on Main St. So it's super easy parking. Joel the owner, is wonderful, and his knowledge on food and wine is AMAZING. The food is phenomenal. Always fresh, clean, and light though never lacking in flavor. I've had so many favorite dishes in the 3 years that they've been open. Just when I think I can't be won over again, Chef Dan wows me every season. How he does that I do not know... because I am one picky eater. Right now, it's the Shrimp served on a bed of pasta in a Pesto Sauce. It's sooooooo good!! And I don't even like Shrimp in pesto.. Even desert captures my attention... the carrot cake made by Sweet Peas or the in house fruit crumble are two of my favorites Go check out Tundra!!
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Tundra is amazing. Great food, atmosphere and service. There is an excellent selection of wine and cocktails. A nice place for a date night or dinner with friends.
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
This place is outstanding! We are so glad we gave it a try for dinner while we were in town one night. The chef knows how to mix flavors to create new and wonderful dishes. The calamari is not your standard fried calamari. It is in a flavorful red sauce that comes with some bread for soaking up the juices so nothing is left behind. My husband had the sea bass special and I had the fried cod. Both dishes were outstanding. They came with unique, flavorful vegetables and not one drop was left on our plates. The toasted coconut carrot cake is a must have to finish off the meal. You will not leave hungry. Lots of food and so worth the visit!

Yelp
Four of had dinner and drinks at TUNDRA last night. The rack of lamb special was really good and oysters on the shell as well. Great place for sharing small bites or having a full dinner. The wine selection was excellent and reasonably priced. The service was great - very attentive and ambiance was nice. I would definitely dine here again.

Yelp
While enjoying and extended stay in Idaho's wood river valley, I wanted to go beyond the traditional local favorite restaurants, which offer plenty of character but sometimes, due to their popularity, tend to fall short on quality and service. Based on the high ratings of a couple of other Yelp recommendations, we decided to give Tundra a try. After a call to verify seating and a short drive from the Ketchum area, we were greeted by the owner, Joel, who sat us in one of their Covid 19 spaced outdoor tables. From our attentive server, Dawson, we ordered a nice bottle of Pouilly Fume from the well stocked wine bar, which was kept cool in a bucket of ice hung from the side of our table. We started with some "small" plates, a very fresh and flavorful halibut crisp, composed of halibut "sashimi" and fesh vegetables which included avocado, cucumber and I believe zucchini, all pressed into a half-dome mound. As a second appetizer selection we sampled a couple of very tasty fried cauliflower patties, bright yellow from what I assume was a turmeric mixture. Both went well with the wine. Moving to the main course, we both ordered a special dish, grilled halibut over a lemon flavored risotto, which in turn was laid over a bed of artichoke hearts. The halibut was excellent, flaky and moist, and the risotto was well prepared, al dente, nice and creamy, showing it hadn't been sitting around like so many risotto dishes are served. We also enjoyed a small side dish of wild mushrooms to accompany the risotto dish which added a bit of variation bite by bite, on demand. Just to note Dawson was extremely attentive throughout our meal, visiting our table regularly to make sure everything was just right. Despite being pretty satiated from the dinner, we decided to split a piece of locally sourced carrot cake, gluten free, created by a talented local pastry chef. It was super moist and was one of the best I've had outside of my wife's own home made recipe. All in all, this was a positively delightful experience from the food, prepared by a talented chef, to the service of an attentive front line staff. I'd not hesitate to return to Tundra, in Hailey, for a special delicious meal next time I'm in Sun Valley and it's environs.

David K.

Yelp
Tundra: Joel & Deb are doing something very special in Hailey-ID. It's been two years (thanks COVID) since I've been able to return and the anticipation was worth it. Pork Osso Buco with puréed yams and steamed vegetables...amazing. The pork fell from the bone...moist...tender...remarkable. Puréed yams were perfect and a terrific compliment. Finished with cream brûlée and a doppio. Perfect evening (again). FYI...I'm just a frequent traveler who's dined all over the world and grateful to find Tundra hidden in the little mountain town of Hailey, Idaho.

Yelp
This is hands down one of the ten BEST restaurants I've eaten at in the country . Has everything you would want in going out to dinner . It's casual yet upscale . The little patio is lovely . The food is very good with lots of fresh veggies , the dessert - lots of fresh fruit . Service is nice and the interior is beautiful. Reservations are recommended. I can't wait to come back during winter time and I give this place a solid 10/10

Yelp
We stayed in Sun Valley for our anniversary and this was our fave! So many little details and hospitality that made the entire experience at Tundra the very best. Excellent, fresh food. Creative flavors! Wonderful chef! We had the lamb sausage with homemade sauerkraut and apples, fresh baked bread with honey butter, polenta, wedge with pork belly, tempura cod and freshly baked peach pie. The restaurant had a flash flood (!!) right before we arrived and everyone was so kind and generous even after cleaning up such a big event! It was all just so amazing. I hope we can go back soon!

Sandy T.

Yelp
Hands down, the BEST restaurant in Sun Valley (Hailey)!!! The food was amazing!!! Dawson was our server and he, the owners and the whole staff were so attentive and engaging to make our entire evening at Tundra perfect in every way!

Yelp
We only dined out twice in Hailey, ID and this restaurant was amazing! We found it after reading reviews and were beyond pleased. I had the Scallops, my daughter had Salmon and my husband tried the Cod. Every one of us were delighted with our selection. The entire staff was attentive and added to our memorable evening. Highly recommend!

Marshall C.

Yelp
Food has always been amazing. We haven't ordered anything that we don't like! The wine and beer selection is also awesome.

Lori H.

Yelp
6/14/20 Just returned from another trip to Idaho and was able to celebrate my birthday at Tundra- what a special meal! The Idaho trout, shrimp, and chocolate mousse were exquisite! Thanks to Joel, Daniel, and the rest of the staff for such a lovely evening! I was able to eat two dinners at Tundra while visiting Idaho last week. They were two of the best meals I've ever had. Daniel is an amazing chef- the food was so fresh and perfectly prepared. The flavors were amazing! Joel keeps everything running smoothly and has a vast array of wines to choose from. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
A welcome new addition to the thriving Hailey community. Modern setting, stylish, clean and hip. Joel, the owner has a long history with many great eateries from the valley over the years. The menu so far is breakfast and lunch, but we anticipate dinner as he builds up the staff. Great breakfast options. We will be back
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Ambiance is not supporting the menu. Nice assortment on menu. I had scallops which would have been awesome if not for the black pepper. ( personally do not care for pepper especially on a sweet delicate seafood) Has potential for a dinner spot but still needs some tweaks in the setting and sound abatement.
google avatar

Kay S.

Yelp
So freaking delicious. Beautiful presentations even in to go boxes ! I only wish I had more things on the menu.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Fabulous place to relax and take a culinary adventure... from tapas to entree the entire experience was amazing... couple it with fantastic local service and you're in for a treat!! Count me in!!
google avatar

Charles S.

Yelp
One of the bright spots of my trip to Idaho. The staff was out of this world and the fried fish was so big that I couldn't even finish it. Everything was cooked to perfection and they made sure that we stayed hydrated. You definitely need to stop by and give them your business if you can. The wine selection is pretty good as well.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
When Tundra first popped up, I had my doubts if Hailey needed another fine dining restaurant. Well, I'm really happy to say, I'm wrong. More variety is always good! Especially with a menu as delicious as theirs. They currently serve dinner only, but I got the pleasure of getting a taste of their breakfast menu. Soooo good. My favorite biscuits and gravy ever were had sitting in their sun filled room, along with a mimosa. In regards to their dinner menu, wow. I've had basically everything on this menu, all exceptionally yummy. The cod dish was perfect, the cheese plate was well portioned with a unique blend of flavor. Don't miss out on this spot next time you're in Hailey. 5 Star

Yelp
OUTSTANDING! What is an amazing restaurant like this doing in a small town like Hailey, ID? This is 5-star food. What a special gift to Wood River Valley.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
If I could give 6 stars I would. Everything here was excellent- the starters, mains, sides and dessert. Pretty extensive wine selection with some good choices and a very reasonable markup. Joel (owner) is a super friendly guy. Highly recommend Tundra for a nice dinner in Hailey!

Kristin K.

Yelp
We were in town visiting Hailey from San Francisco and dined with TUNDRA three times in two weeks. The food was exceptional (don't skip the French Onion Soup or the Trout!), they had a fantastic wine list, and the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Dori M.

Yelp
My husband and I went to this local restaurant for a dinner date. A small bread basket on the appetizer menu was $5. Now, I think bread should come with a meal, but whatever... Decent bread, nothing fancy. We ordered a second basket when the meal came. When we got the bill, they had charged us $20. We questioned this and they said the basket was $5 PER PERSON with no refills. Never heard of that before. I know restaurants are struggling, but this is NOT OK. Otherwise, the food, the atmosphere and the service was great. Just watch out for the upcharges.

Cecilia Sholer S.

Yelp
We loved our meal! We had Elk strip loin. It was cooked perfectly, tender and oh so flavorful. The best meal we have had in 2020. We started with onion soup and finished with carrot cake. We split everything and had food to take home. I had already removed my portion before my husband snapped the photo.

Heather N.

Yelp
New best restaurant in the entire valley. Excellent personal service and everything we ordered was phenomenal! What a great surprise a restaurant that does amuse bouche --such a treat and so much fun. First time it was the deviled truffle egg ...second time we went -- burrata. Ordered the scallops they were divine served on a bed of shaved Brussels sprouts, thinly sliced red grapes, and carrot purée ...next was a beet salad with an apple cider white pepper vinaigrette we could not stop licking off the plate ...followed by a beautiful ribeye and a pacific Seabass. Everything was fantastic ...layers of flavor and a special touch by the chef. A nice wine list, as well.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Awesome to have a new option in Hailey for high quality food and coffee at a reasonable price. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Cary S.

Yelp
I have been here twice now and it is great! Strong coffee, Tasty foods, good vibes and super friendly staff! I work remotely and sometimes I need to escape the home office and this is a great option. I should also note 2 more critical factors conducive to a remote working coffee shop. Comfortable chairs, and music being played at a reasonable volume. You would be surprised how many places fail in both of these areas. Again, Tundra is checking boxes.
google avatar

Laurence E.

Yelp
My wife and I drove a little over an hour to check this restaurant out, well worth it. Service was great, fast and friendly, the food was cooked perfectly! We loved every moment at Tundra.
google avatar

Joanne B.

Yelp
I've been there multiple times and they are never open ? What is your hours ? Story ?

Sergio B.

Yelp
And found the best restaurant in Wood River Valley and one of the top in Idaho. What an amazing dinner! Everything we ordered was delicious, generous and portions and beautifully presented. There was something for everyone, from our eight-year-old picky eater to the vegetarian and the meat lovers in our party. The service was friendly and attentive, starting with the owner. And the wine selection was excellent and reasonable priced.

Julie L.

Yelp
Foodies in The Valley you must come here to check out the fabulous dinners. Drive southbound. We were in love with the breakfasts, and now the dinners are even better. Fresh and delicate with a great wine selection

Carmen W.

Yelp
This is the perfect place to start your morning! Great coffee and an unbelievable staff that truly cares about the customer. Next time I visit my brother in Idaho I will make sure to come back to Tundra and see what amazing seasonal items are on the menu. Joel is the man.

Tami K.

Yelp
Try a few small plates, every bite is a treasure. The wine selection is fantastic, and the staff is the best.

Patricia M.

Yelp
Fantastic addition to Wood River Valley restaurant options! It's our new favorite, well worth the short drive from Ketchum for us. The dining area has a chic/contemporary feel. The wine list is superb, the menu varied and creative, and the service excellent and friendly. We went with locals who encouraged us to share dishes, because we all wanted to try lots of different options in each course. This restaurant could compete with the best in any major urban area, and yet it seems just right in the middle of Idaho too.
