Hit St-Henri Gluten-Free Baker is Doing a Downtown Breakfast Pop-Up | Eater Montreal

"Located immediately across from the pop-up site in the Place Ville-Marie tunnels, Tunnel Espresso will provide coffee for customers because Kleine Shoppe is not offering coffee at the breakfast pop-up." - Tim Forster

Yelp
Great place to grab a coffee in the underground mall! Confusing on how to get there but I eventually found it after asking around and using google maps LOL I got a hazelnut latte and a Pain Suisse au Chocolat. Both were really good but I LOVEDDDD the pain!!! The custard was really well made and so tasty. They have a couple tables where you can sit and enjoy your goods. A lot of workers coming by to grab coffee though. Recommend if you're underground!

Yelp
Extremely overrated. I actually threw out my coffee pretty soon after I got it because it tasted like nothing. The barista was nice to me, but seemed annoyed and was speaking to her friend in French more than me and I felt a little bit awkward. It's also a little obnoxious that they crossed out the Americano on the menu and replaced it with Canadiano. I get the political climate of the world, but you know that you have a lot of tourists here and that does not make them feel welcome. I was pretty turned off by this place and wish i didn't waste 6.50 here. Went to McDonald's and got a more tasty coffee for a third of the price.

Yelp
The iced chai latte here is delicious!! It has the perfect amount of chai flavor and a smoothness to it. I also tried the cronut with blueberry preserve and a blueberry sugar sprinkle. It tasted so fresh, mind you it was 3:30 in the afternoon so I didn't have high hopes. Yet it tasted like it had just been made, giving it the perfect amount of flakes. I didn't get to try the other pastries but the brownies looked amazing too. The staff was also very helpful and welcoming and they take covid precautions.

Yelp
Inexpensive, quick coffee spot underground - for the commuters and those wanting something fast but delicious. I grabbed a misto because I haven't heard of it honestly, it was decent - the coffee here is smooth and not bitter so that's a plus, and the service was quick so I feel like everything lines up, go here if you need a coffee fix and it's not out of your way!

Yelp
Been hoping to come here for a long time now as an avid follower of their IG. This tiny gem found in a hole in the wall is quite easy to miss within the connecting tunnel between the Eaton Center and PVM... but it's worth the stop. The coffee is prepared 1 foot from your face. Smells great! This is where they prepare the magic to coffee aficionados. I went with their cappuccino to and it was great. It was strong, just the way I like them and the blend/flavor was memorable even as I type this review. My only issue was the price-tag. At this point I'll have to agree with other reviews that paying $5 for a cappuccino is a bit.... of a stretch. I don't know what kind of rent it costs for this tiny place in a tunnel but HOT DAMN. Lower that price! I think on consequent visits I'll go for that quick caffeine bump in the form of an espresso, they were far more reasonably priced.

Yelp
Phil & Sebastian coffee from Calgary, and cool guys making the coffee! Very unsual location but convenient if you work at eaton center! I will come back!!

Yelp
No matter what anyone says, working a 9-5 job is not always fun and rarely ever lets you leave at 5. The thing that gets most people through the day is a nice hot cup of coffee. Because of this, there is no shortage of places to get coffee in the downtown core especially if you don't care about the quality of what you are drinking and you just want to stay awake long enough to get through the day. But for those that truly love coffee and want a rich delicious espresso based drink there is nowhere better than Tunnel. I go to Tunnel daily and there is never a time it isn't busy. This tiny hole in the wall is famous in the downtown core and for good reason! Not only does it make the best espresso based beverages it also has an amazing staff that always takes their time to prepare your beverage masterfully and converse with you. I am not going to lie it is pricy but for people who truly love and appreciate coffee there is no better place in Downtown Montreal, it is worth every penny.

Yelp
Very good coffee. The baristas are obviously experts and know what they're doing. The service is pretty fast too considering the traffic they get during peek hours. Definitely worth getting your coffee from them before going to work if you have a couple of minutes to spare.

Yelp
HOW TO FIND IT: Enter 1253 McGill College Street (between 3 brasseurs and Boccacino's). Pass reception desk and elevators, go down the staircase on the left. Continue until you reach the doors, then turn right (there's a nail salon at the corner). A few more steps and a delicious coffee awaits! Coffee at this LITTERALLY hole-in-the wall spot (it's just a counter) is stellar & addictive! The service is warm and friendly, owner is always there brewing the black gold himself.

Yelp
I visited Tunnel Espresso Bar as part of my quest to complete the Montreal Indie Coffee Passport. Having tried out their delicious coffee, I really can't wait to go back! This coffee at Tunnel is awesome - an unforgettably rich and flavourful taste. The coffee beans are also responsibly sourced (roasted in Canada, I believe). As far as I know, the only person who works there is the owner, Rob. He's tremendously knowledgable about coffee, and a fantastic person to have a conversation with. There doesn't seem to be fixed hours of operation. They are typically open in the morning on weekdays.

Yelp
Two years and about a dozen lattes later, I continue to adore this place. Pikolo remains my very favourite in town, but I think Tunnel still has the best coffee in the downtown core -- better than the new Myriade in the basement of Club Monaco, but not counting the original Myriade on Mackay by Concordia a bit west of the core (more evenly matched). Delicious macadamia nut and white chocolate cookies. Today they were using Detour's Dark Horse beans for their espresso, the same beans served at the Dark Horse cafés in Toronto. As much as I like Dark Horse on Spadina, Tunnel did it better. For those who sweat the small stuff, their payment card reader has an actually functional PayPass tap sensor which keeps the line moving speedily.

Yelp
Anyone who walks through the tunnel connecting the Eaton Centre and PVM knows that this small and - let's face it - boring strip has seen its share of boutiques and food joints opening and closing in no time. Heck, even the Tim Hortons closed down a while back! Needless to say, this place has truly brightened up a spot that needed its share of TLC and has become popular with good reason. The owner, who started up 2 years ago working alone every day and selling (delicious) pastries made by his mom now attracts lineups of business men and women at lunch time. Staff of baristas has since then expanded and the team is delightful. Most importantly, the coffee is great. This place is awesome and definitely here to stay (a second Tunnel Espresso Bar has since opened at Peel subway station).

Yelp
My nephew discovered this place while on a visit to see me here in montreal a couple of weeks ago. While he waited in Place du Canada for me to finish work he looked up a decent coffee shop in the vicinity on Yelp and went and got himself a latte. On his recommendation I dropped in at the start of this week to try them out. I ordered a flat white which was not on the menu but the guy didn't make any further enquiries as to what I wanted so I assume everything was okay. What he served me was a large cup Latte which was disappointing. I am not the type either to complain, the coffee itself was exceptional but too milky. On my return I asked for a flat white in a small cup - hoping they got the message that I wanted more coffee and less milk. Again I got a latte in a small cup. I guess I am going to have to just pluck up the courage to explain what exactly it is I want. I must say tho the coffee is excellent. Wonderful balance in the roast.

Yelp
Went there twice and both times coffee was horrible! Espresso was weak and cappuccino was flavorless. Totally overated!
google avatar

Frédéric L.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool pass by everyday and usually a line up. If you like super strong espresso they make a mean one for around 2$.
google avatar

E C.

Yelp
Paid $5 for a terrible cappuccino. The girl at the counter was super friendly but otherwise the coffee is not well made and the baked goods are nothing special. Worth walking to one of the better espresso bars in the area.

Maggie L.

Yelp
I've been past this hole in the wall everyday on my way to work but decided to stop by at lunch today on the recommendation of a colleague and wish I had done so months earlier. If you're around the Eaton Center or Place Ville Marie, skip the chains and try something that's much more authentic and fresh. I ordered a Cappuccino and a chocolate chip cookie ~ YUM. I wasn't sure before I went but they do accept debit payment :)

Yelp
Great coffee and Andy is super nice. Best option downtown.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
Its a cool little hole in the wall and line was long but the coffee/espresso was not that good. I ordered a latte. Freshly made and not over foamed but i felt like the espresso was very very weak. Not much body to it. I tasted more milk than espresso. If i go again, would probably order just espresso or a coffee.

Risa D.

Yelp
Quite delicious coffee parked in a smart and unconventional location served by nice people. Total win for the metro warrior downtown, or anyone lost in the city underground.
google avatar

Hannah B.

Yelp
This is probably the best almond milk latté I've had in the city. No joke. I've tolerated a lot of burnt almond milk in my time and this place nails it. Furthermore, it's adorable, affordable and totally unexpected in that wretched metro connector tunnel. The barista was exceptionally fun and friendly; I wish I was her friend. This spot is kinda perfect.
google avatar

Rozita N.

Yelp
Like me, there is a chance you have passed this place hundreds times but never noticed it! If you are passing the tunnel between Eaten Center and Ville-Marie, look around, you will see a tiny espresso bar that offers authentic Italian style Macchiato.
google avatar

J. F.

Yelp
One of the best lattes I've ever had. Worldwide. You must try this place! Grab your coffee and wander down the hallway a bit (past the tea place next door to Tunnel) and you'll find a lot of seating to enjoy your drink and conversation.
google avatar

Phill P.

Yelp
So-so coffee. Definitely not worth going out of your way for. Very disappointing given the reviews. There's better options in the immediate area.

Stuart A.

Yelp
This is the place which got me interested and hooked on third wave coffee. While it was a good introduction, it is not among the best downtown Montreal. It's not up there with Monopole, Finca or Differance. Myriade is close by and is better.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
Excellent simple high end coffee shop. Service is very courteous. Wish it was faster but not really possible given the super small size of the premises (one machine, one cashier). Reasonable prices. All the basic coffee drinks without fluff or whipped cream.
google avatar

Susan F.

Yelp
Outstanding! That's the word to describe this extraordinary institution. A micro- espresso bar located in a tunnel between the Eaton Centre and Place Ville- Marie, where you are served coffee of exceptional quality . The owner is also the master barista place: friendly, welcoming, manic traditional craftsmanship. Bring your friends if you want to impress them.
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
Perfect quality coffee place. My espresso was really great The worker so kind and friendly towards us and the coffee was made very fast. .

Richard P.

Yelp
Buy a coffee there whenever you can. I won't fool you, this is not the one best coffee place Montreal. It comes 3rd IMHO. BUT. This is the most convenient great coffee place in Montreal. What I mean is that there are thousands of reasons for you to be close to the Tunnel, and if you are there are 0 reason for you not to pass by. If you like coffee, stop, order a cappuccino, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Tunnel is one of my favourite coffee shops in town! The owner Andrew is super friendly and the coffee is great. Mocha is my favourite and they just had a new menu recently. I tried the honey latte and it was pretty good! They have a selection of pastries (e.g. brownies, cookies, apple cake etc) and they are all homemade by the owner's mum! Most of the baked goods are usually sold out in the early afternoon, so it's better to go there in the morning. Tunnel also has a great selection of tea, try the Amour if you like soothing tea!

Jack A.

Yelp
they always have a new variety/ origin of beans so it keeps things interesting. only reproach is that their frothed milk is never hot enough or at best inconsistent temperature wise. They could really benefit from using a thermometer

Julie N.

Yelp
Excellent mocha! A true gem in the tunnel - not to mention baked goods. Highly recommend.

M R.

Yelp
Tried it once, great service to go along with great espresso. I was so impress with it, for an area 8' x 10' to be so incredible! Wish I had the time to go back. The cup I had was so smooth, great body and no bitterness.

Silvia B.

Yelp
By far the best cappuccino in Montreal. If you go on Fridays, you can even find home made cannelloni, can it get any better than this?!
