Adorable little shop with a relaxed vibe. (The owner?) plays really cool music.

Fun shop with new, used, and collectible vinyl and associated merchandise. Good place to flip through the stacks and find something to take home.

I’ve been coming here almost weekly since the pandemic started. Ben, Jack, and Patrick are the second family. If you’re into Jazz, funk, foreign and rock, Tunnel is the spot! I owe my newfound love for soul and Japanese funk to these guys. It’s always worth the drive. Every single time! They occasionally stock local mixtapes and obscure goodies that make each visit unique. Make sure to check these guys out!!

Ben is amazing! Very honest buyer and has the cutest store.

Dude there told me about one of the greatest bands EVER! Even tho it wasn’t in stock that day, hella happy I know abt this band now. I get something great every time I go. Xavier Cugat last time!

Ben was amazingly gracious, patient, and knowledgeable. This is the perfect record store: selection, size, ambiance, vibe…just flawless. I want to go back every day.

Got hip to this record store a few months ago when I visited SF & picked up some new-used go to vinyl & am so happy to be returning to the area in a couple days so I can dig again. Can't wait to see what treasures await. Vinyl & the beach just a few steps away. What's not to love?

Google
Great selection! Wow found an ol punk record from the 80s and an Ahmad Jamalnive never seen. Also very nice guy there. And a raffle!

Yelp
Do you love records or want to get into them? Check this hot spot. Great selection of records, with old school live music poster art on the walls. Loads of unique SF inspired shirts and jackets. Check it out.

Yelp
Impressive assortment of records; however, the customer service exhibited a lack of warmth and came across as somewhat impolite and pretentious vibe from the owner

Yelp
Tunnel Records may look small on the outside, but it packs a huge collection in a well-organized space with the best service you will find anywhere. Ben is the perfect shop owner. After a couple of visits he knows you by name and what you like to listen to. Specializing in jazz, soul, RB, with a great collection of rare finds. Take the L to the end of Taraval and bring a shopping bag.

Yelp
Helpful staff. Fun selection for those who love vinyl! Added posters, apparel and complementary matchsticks. What a great little treasure!

Yelp
Tunnel Records is a fun spot to check out in the Sunset, for fans of records and beachy wares. Conveniently located on Taraval a couple blocks from the Great Highway (and the ocean!), they fill a very big gap in record store availability in this neck of the woods. Their store is about average-sized but pretty well-curated. They've got the usual new arrivals up front, followed by world, reggae, jazz, etc. sections, and then rock/pop, hip-hop, and soul towards the back. The rock/pop section basically makes up the whole back wall and is a good mix of new and used titles. When my partner and I were there recently we both found a few great albums. The rest of the store is filled out with record accessories (including turntables) and what I initially referred to as beachy wares. It's a bit hard to describe what this actually is, only that they're either beach-appropriate, inspired, or thematic. To me, it's the type of small gifts and accessories that let you recall the feeling and smells of being near the beach long after you've returned home. Definitely will be stopping by again next time I'm in the 'hood.

Yelp
Super nice collection. You WILL find something you like, and the guy behind the counter is very nice and helpful. Amazing stuff! I ended up buying a couple sweatshirts and a t-shirt as well, just because the designs were cool.

Yelp
Really amazing curation of music and home goods! I wanted to buy everything in the store and only my wallet held me back. I bought an amazing vintage copper hanging plant holder for only $20! I love how they feature local artists and everything fits in with the laid-back beachy vibe. Now I'm on the hunt for a record player so I can buy up their selection! One caveat - they do not fix record players

Yelp
Gorgeous, friendly and full of bargains and cool stuff. Nice location near restaurants and coffee shops. Cool!

Yelp
What a cool little record store... definitely has a different vibe... it's located in an up and coming beach section of San Francisco that is certainly catering to to people who appreciate an open shopping experience. The store is not very crowded, and has a good mix of new and used vinyl and a decent cassette wall. When you walk into Tunnel you're led right into the newly received vinyl so don't skip it as there are bound to be several gems... It's here I found a first UK pressing of The Smiths Hatful of Hollow for a fair price. Actually all of their used titles were priced fairly and the new issues were offered at similar prices as everywhere else... Tunnel has a good assortment of rock, blues and jazz with nicely edited racks. They also have some merch from local artisans and an awesome logo for tees and sweatshirts. Behind the counter is a wall with some more higher priced items. When I was there they had everything from some Velvet Underground to the Jesus and Mary Chain. It's a relatively new shop and the owner was a cool dude who was interactive with the patrons. Definitely worth coming in and taking a look!

Yelp
its hilarious as my eyes roll to the nether regions of my head reading reviews of some other record stores that ACTUALLY have a great hip hop or even soul/r&b selection (see: The Stacks in Hayward and Groove Merchant & Originals in the Haight) as you get that one reviewer that complains about how 'tiny' the rock selection is at these places. it's as if the majority of other stores around the Bay (trust me--i've been to a few of 'em) don't have an ample enough supply of T Rex, Thin Lizzy (all great stuff, btw) & ROWS N ROWS of...Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains. c'mon bruh--open yo mind to some stuff that your sister probably likes & that girl (or boy) you've been diggin' probably dances & sings in their cars to. digressing majorly but it's sorta the case with this joint as the rock section dwarfs all others--yet i do have to admit, they've a GREAT selection of everything else, including 7" reggae, international everything & even an entire wall of harder to find wax. I do wish they carried more current soul/R&B/funk to go along with the classic stuff as well as hip hop but that's just my one lil teeny complaint. staff's friendly and they even bump some dope tunes via turntables to make one's perusing/shopping experience 'shazamable'. my one-track mindedness doesn't really pay enough attention to the beach goods within the store but from what i have noticed, the entire space just gives off an irie vibe.

Yelp
A cool little small business! They have a bit of a limited range, but all of their records are fantastic ones. It's a nice local spot, so it's rarely uncomfortably overcrowded (a bit of a rarity in SF). I collect cassettes, and this is my go to spot when I'm looking for something new. Many places will over charge for cassettes ($5-$15)despite them being in extremely old condition, but this place has a great bargain bin where you can dig through and find some really great ones. At one point they had a bootleg Grateful Dead bin which I threw every dollar I had at. The staff is very helpful, and play great music. I especially enjoy talking to the woman who works there, she is so friendly and a fun person!

Corette P.

Yelp
Friendly, great atmosphere, and most importantly fair prices (both bought & sold). I am thankful that our neighborhood has businesses such as Tunnel Records.

Yelp
this place is legit. staff, products and location and all perfect. if you need records or beach stuff look no further. some real finds in the collection for sale. these guys go deep and deliver results which is seen in the merch.

George C.

Yelp
The store is has really knowledgeable and nice employees, its just stuff can be expensive which is reasonable,

Yelp
I don't even have my record player yet, but I know I will be buying records here. I normally get coffee early on the weekends and sit outside staring into Tunnel Records wishing I got my coffee later so I could go into the store. Today, it finally happened and this place was everything and more. I love love love love supporting local small businesses. Even better when customer service is top notch. It wasnt quite noon, but its a gorgeous Sunday in San Francisco and the owner opened the door. She was setting some things up but my friend and I asked if we could come in early to browse. She said of course!!! Great friendly open vibe!! The music selection is incredible. All types of genres. You know what else is dope? They sell stuff from local artists, eclectic cards for various occasions (I don't do Hallmark cards) trinkets, and besides records? AN ENTIRE WALL OF BADASS CASSETTE TAPES.

Aaron P.

Yelp
First time going here today, had a great selection of all genres including rare and hard to find records. Very reasonable prices. The person working was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come again!

Yelp
Great local record store, Ben is super helpful and cheerful. Lots of lovely local gifts, merch as well

Yelp
This is my favorite record store in San Francisco. I came over directly this time from Amoeba, where I spent about a hour sifting through their seemingly vast collection, only to find a few things of interest. Then I headed over to the expertly assembled collection at Tunnel. There, I spent twice as much time digging through smaller stacks and still walked about with four times the Amoeba haul. Ben, the owner, really knows his stuff and curates a grail-laden collection. Prices are fair, the staff is amazing, the whole store is like a jewel in the city. If you're serious about vinyl, you must go.

Richard G.

Yelp
This place is great, clean and well organized, very comfortable. It's like a Frankenstein of the best parts of other shops in the Bay Area. The selection is right on in every genre, deep treasures you'll see and be like "oh damn, no way." Really fair prices. They have records you will want to buy. Fantastic!

Rob A.

Yelp
What a gem of a store! Great layout, nice selection....blues/jazz/rock all day long. And tons of great swag and related gifts. The owner is a great guy who is generous with his in-store credit (records brought in) and seems to really enjoy his shop. I will some of the bins were not so low to the ground, but sometimes you have to work for it. The bargain bins are totally a bargain as I have picked up some excellent records (cover might be beat up, but the vinyl is excellent). I've been in record shops from SF to Seattle to New Hampshire to Paris to Brussels to Ireland....none better than Tunnel!!

Yelp
I came to tunnel records on the first day I moved to San Francisco and immedietely fell in love. I was so happy to find an awesome record store only blocks from my house in the outer sunset!! Absolutely everything about Tunnel Records is freaking delightful from their amazing record selection, plethora of local made goods, and the staff is amazingly helpful/nice to chat with. Anyone even remotely near the sunset should go check this place out immedietely (and I'll probably see you there because I go multiple times a week).

Yelp
Yo! I never do reviews but this place is so chill I had to. Super clean , great selection, and dope decor. Felt super relaxed while digging. Very happy it's just down the street. Definitely about to be a regular lol
google avatar

Garrett K.

Yelp
Great little shop with a cool vibe. Record selection is relatively limited, but that's understandable since it's not a big space. Staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend next time you're near the beach.
google avatar

Yelp
Totally cool record and beach goods store in the Outer Sunset on Taraval near 46th. Nice selection of albums, and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Natalie L.

Yelp
This is honestly my favorite record store. The owner is super nice and knowledgeable. The outline of the store is very beachy and lax. Tons of vintage records, I like going there with my pops to find records from the 80's.

Logan H.

Yelp
Been meaning to check this place out for a while and I'm very glad that I did -- the staff is laid-back, unpretentious and knowledgeable, and the curated selection is right up my alley. I got some really solid pickups out of the buy two get one free bargain jazz bin, and bonus points for being the only place in the city I've seen that has a library music section. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Good selection, great atmosphere, and good enough service. Would come back on account of the good experience and the awesome dizzy gillespie record I got.

Isabel D.

Yelp
Favorite record store in SF. They have the best and most extensive $1 record bin I have seen in the Bay. Staff are always very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
What an excellent record store! So happy to find such a well-stocked store and such a cool vibe. A great spot for music lovers.

Joe B.

Yelp
This shop has a strong focus on international music, but also a strong selection of rock. There is a healthy mix of new and original rock records and the prices are about what you'd expect them to be.
google avatar

Carver F.

Yelp
I'm not usually one to leave reviews on yelp, but I had to make an exception for Tunnel. I have been coming here since Ben and Andrea opened the shop just a few months ago and every visit is better than the last. The music selection is constantly changing, and the beach goods and cards make the perfect gifts if you're looking for something small to match the record you got. If you're a record collector (new or old) then you need to seriously check this spot out.

Tom K.

Yelp
Ben makes it worth your while if you sell him LP's. Much better prices than Amoeba... and a better attitude as well. Nice friendly neighborhood business. I wish them well...
