The other day, I visited Tupelo Honey for lunch. After checking out the reviews online, I decided to try it and made a reservation. I arrived on time and was quickly seated by a welcoming gentleman at the front door.
Our waiter came over to take our beverage orders. However, he seemed to have an attitude, and we later overheard him talking about his personal life with another server. It's best to avoid discussing personal matters at work, as it can impact customer service, and your business can be overheard and end up in a Yelp review.
We ordered our lunch, and the food arrived promptly. I had a pineapple peach-crafted soda, and my lunch date had the sweet tea. While the sweet tea was excellent, my craft soda tasted like straight-up pineapple soda and lacked peach flavor. We also ordered two "Biscuits for the Cause" as appetizers, but they only brought us one. We had to wait 20 minutes for the second one, which was odd. Even though they brought us two fresh biscuits later, we found it tasteless when the first server took them away and left us with just one. Yes, we ordered two to begin with. However, giving us one when we first were seated and having us wait 20 minutes for the second one was ridiculous. When the second server brought two fresh biscuits, they could've just let us have the third biscuit as a courtesy for us having to wait. It's called customer service.
The rest of the food was ok. I ordered chicken and waffles, which were delicious, but the mac & cheese was bland and not hot. My date ordered a beef barbacoa po'boy with greens and chicken tortilla soup. She liked the greens and soup but found the sandwich to be bland. We also ordered banana pudding to take home, but it was more of a vanilla-flavored pudding with only a few bits of cookies and banana slices. As banana pudding connoisseurs, we found it wasn't anything to write home about. The total came to about $75.
Overall, I give Tupelo Honey three stars. The service was okay, and the environment was nice and clean, but the food was hit-or-miss for our palates.
