This place is super cute and the service has been great so far. Jeff, Isan, and Sarah are amazing! So friendly and welcoming. The only drawback is that the outside stinks like sewage and sometimes it permeates inside. Wish they would fix that! I can smell it all the way to the pool table in the back of the building. Would give it more stars if it didn't smell.

I've come back since and part of me thinks I came on a bad night initially. The music is great, the decor is beautiful, and my servers were far more attentive than last time.

I have a fairly large at home bar with plenty of ingredients, so it gets harder to find a place that serves craft cocktails that I couldn't make myself. Tupper and Reed still stands tall above everyone else. I stopped in on a Saturday evening, feeling pretty mellow. After I arrived, a band started up that reminded me of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. You can't beat the ambiance, since this was an old music store, and the please is littered with antique record players and instruments. There are some negative reviews here about rude, more accurately, unresponsive bartenders, and I don't think they get what this place is all about. If you want a chatty, friendly bartender, go to an Irish pub. This place is all about creating unique concoctions in volume. Having said that, I'll tell you a story. In March 2019, I was with a chatty bartender here, since it was a quiet night. I was looking at the vast array of bottles, and noticed something that said "Buffalo Trace" but looked different from their usual bottle. I asked her what it was, and she didn't know. It had about three fingers left at the bottom, so she looked at me mischievously and said, "wanna finish it with me?" So we did. Turns out, that 375 ml bottle was worth about $300. It was one of their experimental batches, made with oats in 2002. I found a bottle online in England and got it shipped here. Best whiskey I've ever had.

Artie was hella cool. She knew the drinks well and suggested a premium tequila. Experience was better with her! Thank you to Tupper and Rees for keeping the vibes clean and the party hopping.

The service was coo. The drinks were good - the cocktails were on the stronger side but I didn't mind that. That's why I'm drinking in the first place. I think this place is mostly for the ambiance. It's somewhat pricey, but I don't know if that's a factor of the local area, inflation, or the interior just looking super dope. But take that with what you will if you take a look at the menu. I think this place is a nice spot for talking/drinking on date nights. Maybe like a pit stop before going somewhere else for dinner. If you can afford it, this is a nice regular spot too. I see it as a nice aesthetic of a watering hole.

I would love to know what was in the Cherry-Coloured Funk... I picked it based off the name and the oregano garnish, and it was delicious! Ambience was delightful.

Super cute cocktail bar and on some nights they even have a DJ. Vibes are immaculate it gives off old money bougie. Beautiful place for a fun date or to get drinks with friends. Atmosphere is great and it's pretty spacious too. They have an upstairs too. Tried a few drinks and it was yummy! Their mocktails are also delicious too, not too sweet. Service is good they make sure you're served.

Enjoyed a cold evening inside and played a round of pool in the back. Crowded with students on the occasional weekend is to be expected. But lovely ambience.

Really liked the place and set up here. They had a DJ and music was very lively definitely a good hang out place or after dinner date. Staff was cool helped make the experience very chill. I don't drink but the party I was with said the cocktails are good here.

This is my favorite bar to go to when I'm in Berkeley. The cocktails are so good. Kudos to the two bartenders slinging drink after drink this past Saturday. There was a DJ there too that was absolutely killing it! Dimly lit with candles. Just overall a great vibe.

Came here tonight with some friends. We played some pool and it was so much fun. I love the relaxed atmosphere and the drink choices.

Someone else said this bar gives New England vibes and it does. It reminds me of a pub I visited a few times in Boston, but that's aside the point. Let's start with the customer service - bar tenders were really attentive and nice. The vibes - casual, cozy, chill, mature crowd. The drinks - not your typical concoctions that you can find at other places. They have an interesting menu but or course, you can order more traditional drinks too. The drinks are affordable and strong. I tried 4 to get a better sampling of the menu. I only wish I took a picture so I could remember the names. I came on a Friday night and a DJ eventually came to set up shop in front of the fireplace. Nice mix of music, not overly loud which I appreciated. Bathrooms are clean too, always a plus.

New England vibes at this cocktail bar on Shattuck. This place does not serve food so it's definitely a before-dinner or late-night-drinks kind of place. We had their All Her Luck (strawberry gin / $14), Making Memories (akvavit / $14), Wino vs Dracula (toki whiskey / $14), and Pas de Bourree (parmesan brandy / $15). We enjoyed the Wino vs Dracula the most (flavorful and strong), while the Making Memories (egg whites overshadow the distinct akvavit flavor) and All Her Luck (on the sweeter side) were solid. Definitely worth a return visit to try some of the other items on their menu. Notable: I would advise others to stay away from the Pas de Bourree, as the parmesan-infused brandy made me want to hurl.

chill place to get drinks and play pool. the place is huge so it'd be nice to organize an event or a party among group of friends

Very cool bar that feels unique due to the historical building - so glad they didn't change it from when it used to be Beckett's way back when. Feels like you're at a pub in Europe. We really enjoyed our drinks and they had a DJ on Halloween weekend, it wasn't so packed that you felt claustrophobic, we found seats in the back and watched people play pool. Really enjoy it here and will be back! Wish they had food, maybe in the future!

Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty packed! I got the Inner Child which was really good. You can really taste the yuzu which I love! The ambiance was also pretty nice except at times it was quite loud. Tip: if you have a larger group, try going upstairs to find a private booth.

Great cocktails, nice space. The bartenders can also make anything you can think of, whether it's listed or not.... available time could be a factor though. Anyway if you can't enjoy yourself here then I don't know what to tell you.

Came here all the way from Vallejo for drinks worth the travel the synthesizer was the best on the menu Bart was very nice and handsome...the inside was clean and the ambiance/ vibe was really nice chill but also lit will be back

I've walked by Tupper and Reed a handful of times without realizing what's inside. Walking into the bar felt like I was transported to a tavern on a winter night in New England -- fireplace, wooden chairs, and all around cozy vibes. I was a bit confused at first because there was a sign instructing you to wait to be seated, but apparently you just walk inside and seat yourself. The menu was interesting to say the least! I ordered the Making Memories (highly recommend if you like slightly sweet, foamy cocktails) and Vodka is Kind of a Hobby (super odd -- I think it had drops of olive oil or something similar?). I liked that the menu had a handful of unique drinks. I came on a weekday night and it got pretty busy around 10pm, so I imagine weekends are much busier. There's a pool table, mix of bar and booth seating, and what looked like additional seating upstairs (though it was closed the night I went).

This place is really nice if you're looking for a slightly older crowd than the undergraduates that typically go to other bars in Berkeley like Kips and Raleighs. Liked the drinks, all were pretty strong and there is an inviting dark ambiance to the place. They sometimes have live music on.

I really like this place. The drinks are super unique, it's a dark but welcoming vibe and the people are a vibe. I have only been during the week, so I can't speak to the weekend crowd or vibe so please continue with that in mind. I go to Berkeley Rep and Freight & Salvage a lot so this is such a great place to end the night or start the night. Each cocktail is about $14 and they all have really unique elements. It feels like the people behind each one have been given one ingredient and have to build a complex drink around it. There's a parmesan brandy, a sweet & sour whiskey even fruity things. Some are spirit forward and others highlight the standout ingredient, it's all quite cool. If you're not feeling adventurous, they are also phenomenal bartenders that can make you an excellent manhattan or French 75 or any other classic cocktail. One thing and I may need to come back and see if this was truly a thing, I'm not sure you can get something non alcoholic here. Yes, I realize it's a bar, so they focus on cocktails, but sometimes in groups everyone doesn't drink alcohol. I don't know if they make mocktails or have the option of just a juice or soda. Maybe they do, I'm not 100%, so keep that in mind if you are a DD or non alcoholic drinker.

The bar walls are lined by candles, my hair caught on fire while standing talking to someone. The management did nothing to help or offer support. I do not recommend.

Found this place during a conference at UCB ...a little small...my biggrst gripe is they have no food but drinks are on point. We came twice and spent many hours there. They have a pool table you can play but it is a little cramped if it's full. As I mentioned, the drinks are bomb.com.org.gov Apparently there is an upstairs area but it was closed both times we were there. Bathrooms are downstairs so make sure you're still able to walk up and down the stairs or you will eat it. Lol Anyway I totally see myself coming back. So check it out! Happy yelping Mis amigos!

Specialty cocktails with unique mixers. Drinks are strong and worthy of their reasonable prices. They aren't a bar with standard coke or sprite, but they do have Mexican coke and squirt. They have two bar counters one for each floor, but the second floor gets rented out once in a while. Bartenders are hospitable. Bathrooms are located downstairs and are surprisingly clean. Also had a live DJ on a Saturday evening that played house music. Shoutout to DJ B Luke and Jabba the Hottie. Off the beaten path, but well worth it. Come check them out!

Cool place. Pretty good vibe and great drinks - though the guy/girl ratio was pretty heavy on sausage.

First time here. Came here to kill time while we were waiting for our table to be ready at a restaurant near by. As we walked in we were greeted right away by the bartenders and we were handed a menu. There was plenty of open tables and seating was easy. We ordered our drinks and bartender made them right away. I ordered a margarita (my go to drink lol) friend ordered a gin and tonic My drink was great!! Perfectly mixed. Over all this is a cool spot to hang out. The vibe/atmosphere is chill and low key. No drama!! Mature demographic.. Bar is clean and well stocked.

Expensive as hell, but if you want a classy, atmospheric whisky bar near the university, you can't do much better. I could spend a whole night here.

Came here for happy hour on Thursday, very good vibe with delicious drink. There was also live musing starting around 9pm ish and there's music cable set on website you can check. There's also a pool table available to play with cash.

Best bar and bartenders in the east bay! Love this team and their commitment to quality cocktails and consistency. The vibes are always immaculate and the weekend music events are so fun to go to. If you're a fan of well crafted cocktails in an intimate and fun setting - this will be your new favorite spot!

Who likes fancy cocktails? Well if you do, definitely check out this place on Shattuck. Me and my girl went here recently and I was extremely impressed with our experience. We got there around 6pm on a weekday and we were greeted by a friendly bartender. Forgot her name, which makes me sort of sad but also makes me realize how potent the drinks are. After all, I usually have a pretty good memory. Oh!! Also to add. We ended up taking a Lyft to get there this night but however parking is pretty standard. There's limited street parking and two nearby parking garages should you need them. The drinks were amazing. We were on the fence a couple times about certain drinks but the bartender was always nice and gave us easy descriptions on what to expect if we were to order a particular drink. This particular night I started off with a Ace of Hearts. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness! I don't think I've ever had Batavia Arrack before but I enjoyed the earthy tones of it. Mixed with Amaro, Honey and Lemon, the drink overall had an amazing complexity to it. Most of the drinks on the menu that we ordered, followed the same pattern. I always appreciate fancy cocktail bars like this because it also a hobby if mine. It's always nice going somewhere where you have a long list of cocktails with interesting ingredients to try but are also potent on top of that. I definitely will be back. I can't wait to take some of my friends to this awesome bar in Berkeley!!

I was really looking forward to checking out this bar that was described to me as Harry Potter -esque. Came here during happy hour with some friends. I ordered off the happy hour menu and it took so long. The bartender wasn't familiar with the ingredients and she had a hard time finding them behind the bar. Wouldn't be a huge deal but she was super rude the entire time. I tried 3 different drinks here and they were all varying levels of horrible. I was really surprised as I tried so many different variations and every single one tasted bad. The last one I had was savory and tasted like soup. I love soup and it is my favorite food but I couldn't stand the drink, nor could my friends. My friend loved her tequila drink and ordered it 3 times so she didn't have the same experience as me but agreed the bartender was super mean for no reason. Not good vibes. Five stars for the live music.

Love the cocktails here. Really incredible and well balanced. I'll even try cocktails with things I wouldn't not normally go for, and they are still excellent.

Exceptional experience at Tupper and Reed in Berkeley! Rachelle and Kaycee, the bartenders, delivered top-notch service and were extremely hospitable. The atmosphere was amazing, creating the perfect backdrop for enjoying their excellent mixology-style drinks. Highly recommend!

I've been to Tupper and Reed from time to time throughout the years and have always had a positive experience. The cocktails are solid (and they rotate some seasonally, which is fun) and reasonably priced in context of the Bay Area. The bartenders have always been friendly, and the vibe is a dim, candlelight ambiance. The only drawback is given the downtown Berkeley location, parking can be tough - but to be expected.

Nice little cocktail bar off Shattuck in Berkeley, you might get lucky with some street parking nearby. They have DJ's come on some nights and we were supporting our friends on a Saturday night that were spinning there. The bar was pretty busy because they closed the upstairs for a private party, they have a pool table in the back, a dance floor area, small outdoor area, areas to sit and bathrooms downstairs. Be careful and make sure you're not too tipsy going downstairs or else you might fall. I wanted a specialty cocktail and they said the Richard Simmons in Space is popular, my friend got Pass Me My Sarong- an islandy drink, and we got a Mexican Coke for another friend that wasn't drinking. The bartenders were super friendly and they had different types of alcohol that were comparable to your usual at bars if you don't know the names because we were looking for Hennessy or Remy but got something similar.

Still the best place for good cocktails in Berkeley. Not the classic cocktails but cocktails for the adventurous and a sophisticated palate. I hope this place stays forever and keep updating their menu for surprises!

I closed my eyes, reopened them and it felt like I was in a pub/bar somewhere in Europe. I absolutely LOVE the interior of this cocktail bar- I didn't feel like I was in the heart of Cal Bear University. The lighting was perfectly dim, creating a sweet romantic setting. Next to our table we had a wood burning fire place with our drinks in hand-everything was perfect. This is the ideal date night spot, where you can have great conversations. With the perfect amount of romance plus an extra side of bougie, this is the spot for you. Heads up, drinks average about $11 a mix drink. So be prepared to throw down a few shiny pennies.

The 2023 Tupper and Reed definitely has a less intensely artisan and old world vibe than it did pre-pandemic. The drink list is now just a single sheet of paper instead of an elaborate book of concoctions, but the drinks themselves are delicious and the space still has a pretty cool speakeasy vibe.

A nice space to grab a drink. The noise level is pretty high, not ideal for a date. With that being said it is also a good place to meet someone for the first time. They have tables that you can just grab a seat, but there isn't a waiter. You still have to go to the bar to order drinks. I ordered a Mr. Pink the drink was tasty definitely not strong at all. For $12 each I expected a little more of a kick. The bartenders were nice and moved quickly to keep the line down and service people quickly. I'll try them again.

Cool cocktails. The menu changes often and is presented on sheet music. I've tried to make sense of the sheet music, but I'm pretty sure they just inserted a bunch of symbols to look all artsy, so that's a bit disappointing. Still cool though. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Quiet enough to actually talk. Dark, chill vibes. Sometimes musicians perform. I like!
