Yelp
Doner is super popular in Europe and worldwide, and Turkish Doner is one of only a few doner places in Chicago. I'm quite surprised there is only one review for this new-ish restaurant on Argyle (there are a bunch of reviews on the Google Maps page).
The inside is nice but no frills, with a few tables in front of a counter. Food prep is behind the counter and behind a door, so no ability to view your food being cooked.
There are a wide range of menu items, including multiple kabobs (chicken, lamb, beef, kofta), lamb chops, shawarma (Turkish and Slavic), and of course doner (Turkish and Iskender). Pides (similar to a pizza) are also available in different varieties (vegetarian, lamb, cheese, etc). There are starters (hummas, sultan, ezme, baba ghanoush) and side items ("extras") including cig kofte, lentil soup and salads.
We had ezme (great), cheese pide (very good), Slavic shawarma and Turkish doner. The lavash wraps (shawarma and doner) were excellent, with tender meat and good flavor.
In the interest of full disclosure, we have only eaten doner in Chicago, so it's hard to compare. However, I'd rank it the best of what we have encountered in the city. We have a German friend who we will bring by to do a taste test soon.
Overall, definitely recommended. It's not a real sit down, so come prepared for good food served by nice people in a pleasant but relatively spartan environment. We are excited to go back soon to try more!
