This was the first winery we visited in Plymouth. Our hostess was Julia and she was very accommodating to our group. We felt very welcomed and she made sure we were comfortable outside. It's such a beautiful winery with a lot of outdoor seating. I wish it was warmer so we could enjoy sitting out there with the gorgeous view. Eventually we switched to sit inside due to the winds. She got us all seated at a large table inside the tasting room. We did not feel rushed. She gave us suggestions for other wineries to visit as well. We ordered a case of their wines to be shipped home.

We had a great time at Turley wine cellars. We went to the Shenandoah wine tasting area planning to drive around to different wineries, however we stopped here because it looked kind of happening, there was a special event going on with great food and music and we ended up spending the day here and had a really good time. The wine was really good with a specialty in Zinfandels but with a good selection of other wines as well. While we enjoyed the music and dancing, they served us very nice food with salad and goat cheese as well as a very tasty shrimp and chicken rice jambalaya dish. We had front row seats on a warm patio under the sun in front of live guitar music and singing and very much enjoyed dancing on the patio. The views from this patio were also beautiful and the ambience was fantastic. The staff came by often, providing us with different wine tastings and even some bonus tastings. Definitely a place to keep an eye out for when events are coming up. Definitely will try to come back especially when they are doing something special like they were on this day. But even if you just want to taste them, it is a good place to stop by.

Google
We signed up for an event. My husband got an email, that it was cancelled. We drove here thinking we would just pick up and leave. We were surprised, to see the event going on as planned. They accepted our early reservation, since it changed to first come, first serve. Had room inside, which we prefer with it raining today. A good acoustic guitar and singer were playing. Wood stove pizza and delicious wine was poured. Our server Katie was experienced and very knowledgeable. This place has always been unique and surprisely fun.

Google
This was one of our favorite places to go. We have enjoyed Turley wines for 20 years or so now. To learn it closed our local room was disheartening and we are concerned for all affected. Beautiful property. Per their Paso Robles location, closed permanently

Google
I've been on their mailing list for years and we finally made it up to their newer tasting room near Plymouth. It used to be the old Karly tasting room I believe (don't quote me on that!). We had a lovely experience - our was our first stop of the day since we flew into Sacramento earlier that day. The service was lovely and they snuck a couple of bonus wines into our tasting since we've been good customers (or maybe because it looked like we needed it!). I always enjoy their wines and their hospitality. Definitely make a reservation since they get busy and can't always accommodate walk-ins.

Google
Visited for Big Crush Weekend. The patio/atmosphere is great. Very relaxing and well shaded. Wines are decent, lighter reds.

Daniel Armendariz

Google
Great atmosphere, and the sunset was amazing. The pizza by Flour and Flame is phenomenal.

Victoria D.

Google
Nice place for wine tasting. Friendly staff, chill atmosphere. Good variety of wine. Working by appointment. Also important: kids are allowed, which is not the case for some wineries in the US.

Yelp
Turley Wines in Amador County, Plymouth to be exact has got to be one of the older wineries in the Amador County area. I have been a Turley Club member for a LONG time however, this was my first visit to their tasting room in Plymouth. Cute location and friendly staffers. This is the place to go where everyone knows everyone in the valley.... I like to learn something new on each visit and this time, I learned of Turley's Amador County Judge Bell Zinfandel. If you are in the Sacramento area, this location is a snap for you to get to as it is a little over an hour by car.

Yelp
I'm realizing now that I based my impression of this winery on my past memories of visiting the Paso Robles tasting room. Now that I've experienced this wineries broader offerings, which express the various areas that the grapes are from, I'm still a fan (but not to the degree of my Paso Robles experiences). Don't get me wrong, this is an amazing wine maker doing top quality wines, but being a wine club member turned out not to be the bucket list experience I had expected. I'll definitely continue to be a consumer of their Paso Robles Zinfandels, especially their Dusi Vineyard, though!

Arya Z.

Yelp
huge disappointment to find out there's a fee just to sit there and drink wine on top of the cost of the wine. oh and then there's gratuity on top of the fees.

Shelly A.

Yelp
Great customer service from Katie! Thank you for also pouring off the menu a bit. The wines were great and I am glad you now have such a big selection of food!

Cory D.

Yelp
Turley's tasting is $25 but if you're a member first tasting is free, so we went for my birthday weekend and our first tasting at the amador location. ALL the wines were wonderful, so great that they're all Zinfandels but all well balanced, with different nuances and flavor notes. Service was top notch and our 2 pourers were wonderfully knowledgeable. Was also given a tasting of the petite syrah which was amazing and 2 different estate wines. Favorite winery in Amador, we will be back. Great place for a Zinny day.

Kris I.

Yelp
What a wonderful tasting experience we had at Turley!!! We had a wonderful lady pouring our wine (so upset I can't remember her name but she is in my photo!!). We made reservations, I can't remember if we had to or not. Tastings are $25 per person. Wines we wonderful, I left with 4 bottles

Gary J.

Yelp
Great venue good wine and great music. Staff is accommodating and friendly. Nice outdoor setting

Amber H.

Yelp
First $25 dollar tasting fee per Person is steep. But if wine is great and service matches wine bring it. So wine is good, and then things go south. We got three of six tastings and just had to call it. This took over an hour. We left. Not busy but that was the excuse given. Too bad...we will not be back.

James U.

Yelp
This is an overdue review from fall 2021, but I wanted to post how much I enjoyed Turley. They make some of the best Zins in California and are underpriced for how well they drink now, and how well they cellar. Probably the coolest thing about Turley is the wine club, which is just an email list. All the perks, none of the commitments! Once a quarter, you pick the wines you want, and how many you want. Unquestionably, it's the best club in California! It takes 3-9 months for you to get onto their email list, but it will quickly become your favorite club. Regarding our tasting, The Amador staff was incredible, particularly Megan. She gave us the right amount of information, didn't hover, and made awesome recommendations for some bottles to take home (2018 Library Petite Sirah for the win!). If I opened a winery, the first thing I would do would be to poach Megan! Sorry, Turley!

Krista M.

Yelp
Turley Wine Cellars makes forty-seven wines, most of which are Zinfandel and each has it's own character. The tasting room is large and spacious with lots of room to taste at the bar. Be sure to check out the racks of library wines in the back corner as you can find some steals on some older vintages. Wines are great, some favorites of mine were: 2017 Bechthold Cinsault was subtle with a nice bouquet of fruit and soft tannins. It is light bodied and balanced. 2016 "Buck" Cobb Zinfandel had nice acid with some fruit on the palette, this is a good food wine. 2016 Rinaldi Zinfandel has nice fruit on the nose, with fruit upfront and then you get smacked with some tannins. Lovely and will round out with a couple more years. End your visit at Turley with a little rest in the barrel rockers outside. Turley makes some big, bold wines and you can really get a sense as to how much can be done with a Zinfandel grape.

Pamela K.

Yelp
I love Turley wines and that's a taste bias. I know nothing about wine except what I like. My hubs enjoys them and my DIL, who does know wine, would bathe in the Pesenti zin if we let her. Their wines suit us and that's personal. I'm reviewing Turley because we have frequented both Plymouth and Paso and both places are the same. People who don't know you welcome you as if the winery were their home. "Come on in, get comfortable!" I can't imagine a more welcoming environment without any wine-snootery. It's awesome. Will be making another trip to Amador County soon and looking forward to it. They're always generous with letting us taste a little this or that without getting into flights and paying per person fees. We're familiar with their wines so unless bringing guests it isn't our intention to taste a flight. Just want to see what's new and interesting by their recommendation and they accommodate that well as we pick up a few bottles to take home. So looking forward to the easing of Covid restrictions to make more frequent trips. You should, too!

Anita B.

Yelp
Turley has excellent wines! My partner has been a member for years, and took me to visit the Templeton location last year. All the wine was great. This was our first visit to Amador and we loved it! First, Wendy was awesome, so dun and personable! All the wine was great, but we especially loved the 2021 karly cobb and the 2020 cedarville. Even though we have a rack of turley at home, we still took home a couple bottles. The grounds are really pretty as well.

Chris O.

Yelp
Well such a wonderful experience just does not occur everyday but today was 5 star thanks to the knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, engaging and generous tasting provided by Megan, in the Amador tasting room. We tasted inside but spaced due to whatever but the service was exquisite. Knowledge of the wines as well as how they are tasting is a tricky point for TR pourers. Megan shared just enough to make it enjoyable. The wines were good but that's subjective so. Our fave was the '19 White Coat this time. We have been list members for 15 years or so I think, and this was the best tasting we have had. If you like whites or reds try Turley. You won't find them in most markets.

Zin M.

Yelp
Hubby and I came here for his bday and ALL their wines were phenomenal! Prices very reasonable. We're members so were able to get our tastings free. We bought 2 bottles of wine. Had a wonderfully relaxing time, with beautiful shaded outdoor seating, great service, and a very happy hubby. We will definitely be back.

Marc C.

Yelp
Excellent wines, excellent service!! Another beautiful location to taste Turley wines. Joe, our pourer/server/expert was amazing. He was all if those things and more because you could tell he enjoyed his job and brought such a friendly, knowledgeable and professional yet casual energy to our experience. Highly recommend fur a visit!

Tami H.

Yelp
Of ALL the wineries I visited during my trip. Turley was by far THE BEST ONE! Showed up early to our reservation and was able to enjoy the place! I loved the hospitality and the interaction! One of my biggest things was being able to be told about the wines and the winery and I was able to experience that here! A true gem and great place to experience! Thank you to the gals who helped us!

Brooke P.

Yelp
Kicked off a long weekend with a stop at Turley - out of 6 wineries we visited in total, both in Amador County and Napa, this experience was tied for top spot. Katie was knowledgeable and friendly, and it was a beautiful, relaxing sunny afternoon (before the big heat wave) after a long drive from the airport and an unexpected rental car snafu (they were super nice when we called to let them know we would be late). She patiently answered our questions and visited with us, sharing stories about each of the wine, and even though we were late, we never felt rushed. Have a much greater appreciation now for Zinfandel and had a hard time picking our favorites to buy, since all were so great! Family still lives in the area, so hoping we will get to make a return trip sometime.

A K.

Yelp
Always the highlight of the trip. Been buying from Turley for 24 years. It is a reference point for zin and petites. Always friendly and fun. And, I'm not on a club or mailing list. The wine is consistent with Pesenti, Euberoth Zins as my favorites. For everyday wines, Juvenile always hits the spot. It's hard not to leave with a case or two. $25 for tasting waved with purchase is a good deal. Heck, they throw in a pair of Riedel tasty glasses with it. Glad to see a winery that does not gouge for a tasting a premium product. Be sure to bring your own styro carrier. It gets hot in Paso and wine does not take kindly to that

Kati B.

Yelp
The person serving us was extremely rude and was completely unwarranted. I will not come back specifically because of her. Although I know her name, I'll be the bigger person in the situation and keep it to myself. You should train your employees to be kind as they are in customer service.

Raechel H.

Yelp
Visited Turley for the first time for a tasting and Oh My are the wines tasty! I've been tasting at several other wineries in Amador county (I LOVE wine) and Turley by far has the best wines. I especially loved their zinfindale! Megan poured for us, and she was super friendly and knowledgeable about all the wines. Staff members were very on top of Covid regulations, which was great! We're so glad that we got to come in for a tasting and can't wait to come back! Cheers!

Dan R.

Yelp
Folks here's a heads up... if you are ok with a $25. Tasting fee per person and if you are ok with 2 bottles to wave one tasting, and if you don't mind paying $30+ per bottle of wine in Amador county.... Well then, this is the place for you. Our biggest disappointment was... nowhere is it posted they have a $25 tasting fee. So if you leave with 2 bottles of wine, that will cost you $100. Almost thought I was in Napa

Mike L.

Yelp
Lousy attitude. After going to a number of really great wineries in the area, what a shock to come here- and NOT in a positive way. Pours were beyond minimal, and the people here need to get a different gig... Do yourself a favor and go to any one of the other 300+ wineries nearby...

Stacey W.

Yelp
Wine was excellent and we loved the decor. We only stopped by because we used to go to one of Charles Mitchells's old wine tasting rooms there. It's changed a lot since then. The only part I didn't like was charging $10 per person for tasting and waiving only one fee per bottle purchased. This isn't Napa. We don't go to Napa for this very reason. Other than than that, the wine was very good.

Kristen N.

Yelp
The tasting room is pretty and spacious and we loved the table in the tasting room. Also love the olive wood gift items so good little shopping stop! The hosts were knowledgeable. The wines were nice as well. Loved that they were pet friendly! And room for limos if you need it!

Kristian D.

Yelp
Turley Wine Cellars is a large winery with several tasting rooms in California, including one in Amador County near Plymouth. This location focuses exclusively on the local Amador Zinfandel wines grown nearby. The tasting room is open normal hours and is located on Shenandoah Road. The tasting room is large and upscale rustic with a nice open feel. Unfortunately, they charge a steep $10 tasting fee refundable only with buying two bottles per person. This is substantially higher than most wineries in the region, especially given the price point of the wine. The zinfandels are very good, but the lack of other varietals and overall small selection do not justify the price. With so many other options literally next door, it is hard to justify such a premium for Turley Wine Cellars.

Kristen G.

Yelp
Turley was by far one of the most educational tastings we've done in a long time! Katie was filled with great information about the wine and the area as and told fun anecdotal stories behind the different vineyards and vineyard owners. The hostess was extremely accommodating and friendly as well. Turley's prices are reasonable and make it possible to enjoy yummy zins and barbera. that grows so well in this region

Betty C.

Yelp
If you like zinfandels this is the place to visit in Amador County. Out of the 34 wines they sell, 28 of them are Zinfandel. We visited on a Thursday and it was relatively empty in the tasting room. Meredith was fantastic, explaining all the wines and the stories behind the different vineyards and owners that brought the wines to life. They serve those nice criccantini Panzanella crackers as a palate cleanser.

Thomas E M.

Yelp
Today we looked for the Turley Wine Cellars, and we were fortunate enough to find them. We spoke with the very nice young lady pouring the wine and she indicated that this was their first official day open to the public, and they had been having a soft opening for the last week. So, we got lucky. After having seen Mr. Turley's picture on the cover of Wine Spectator, my expectations were very high, and thus it already was going to be tough for the wine to match the expectations. Today, most of the wine was still from the Karly Winery, and it was being moved to the new room, apparently to be liquidated. They were pouring generously, but this is not a free tasting. We paid $10 per person, and this included a glass. If you buy a bottle of wine, they waive one tasting, and we did, and so our group of three left with one bottle of wine and two glasses. They were pouring some expensive Turley wine, and this was nice to see. Again, when the bottle is retailing for $86 it's tough for me to see the real world connection. Can I really drink a glass of wine for more than $21 per glass? For me, my budget is simply not that elastic. I did like the wine, but I would have liked it a whole lot more for about $40. Also, so you know, the place is just opening as of this writing, and it's not quite hitting on all cylinders. In six months, it will probably be running a lot more smoothly, and I do look forward to my next visit. To conclude, you'll pay to taste, the wine will be good, but many will find it a bit expensive.

Judy K.

Yelp
The young lady who helped us on Saturday afternoon was awesome! She was full of knowledge on the wines (all Zinfandel) that we tasted. She shared all the personal stories of the people behind the growing of the grapes on each wine. Very personal and fun afternoon. Tasting are $10 but comped with purchase of 2 bottles.

Sean S.

Yelp
This place has some great Zins but not the best in the area. It's still worth a try because everyone has different tastes. The reason I was somewhat turned off from this place is that they are the wines are priced higher than other wineries in the area. They also require you to buy two bottles to waive one tasting fee. To be fair, this was their rule on paper and are group did have all their tasting fees waived after one member of our group purchased three bottles and we had a group of six. This was obviously an exception. Overall, this place wasn't for me but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try.

Nicole N.

Yelp
If you know Turley wines, you know. Yes, there's a $10 tasting fee that's refunded if you buy a bottle, but if you're going to Turley, you're gonna buy a bottle, and I assure you that you will be spending much more than $10 here. I am a huge fan of Turley Zinfandels and Syrahs, and recently found out that one of my friends from childhood is one of their winemakers. Growing up in Napa has it's weird quirks, I guess. We were fortunate enough to get on their mailing list, and went to our first pickup party last weekend, which was catered by South, and had a great live band playing called the Risky Biscuits. To say "it was awesome" is like saying "I guess the stars are cool" when looking at the sky. It was one of the most fun afternoons I've had wine tasting and eating to my heart's delight, and I can't wait for the next one. The tasting room is really beautifully decorated, and the winery is outside of Plymouth, California, so if you're on a road trip on the 49, this spot is great to hit up. The wines are top notch, and the people working here are really friendly. Every time we've come up here we've been treated very well - my husband has blue hair, our friend has purple hair, and still, greeted and treated like family. I love this place. The owner, Larry Turley, is very personable and kind, and everyone who works here seems to genuinely enjoy their job. The wines are incredible (I have 2 cases in my wine cabinet right now), and if you get the chance to get on their list (it's a long wait, like a year), I highly recommend you do. 10/10 recommended. PS Make sure you have a sober driver when you visit!

Amber P.

Yelp
Turley has some really great wine, and great staff. The view is nice, but I especially love the story they tell with their tastings. They place each wine in a very specific order based on the history and the type of grape. Some of their wines are based on grapes grown way back in the late 1800s, making them some of the oldest vines in California! - So the history there really impresses me. They do their best to accommodate during pandemic times and still maintain safety and respect of everyone involved. I had a wonderful time and you will too!

Matt W.

Yelp
I stopped by Turley Wine Cellars last weekend with my wife and had a great experience! Yes, as others have commented on, they do charge $10 per tasting, but they give you the option of signing up for their mailing list and they waive the tasting fees. I must admit I'm a beer fan and kind of a novice when it comes to wine, but our tasting experience here was great and I really enjoyed the assortment of (mostly) zinfandels. Our tasting was led by (I believe) Katie and she was very fun and enthusiastic and told interesting stories about the histories of the various vineyards that the Turley grapes come from. She even went out of her way to find a bottle of wine that I was interested in trying that wasn't on the day's tasting list and opened it for us to let us try it. We left with a couple bottles and would definitely go back next time we're in the area!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Fantastic tasting! Vicky was very professional and knowledgeable and gave us a healthy sample of each wine we had. It was my first wine tasting and I can't wait to go back and taste more! Great wine! Great staff and great service! Thank you all for a great day!

Aline Y.

Yelp
Turley has good zinfandels and you have the opportunity to taste from their many vineyards, however they are a bit snotty and for no reason. For example yesterday was Cellar Door Event and a Young lady suggested I had made a wine error by tasting a pure sin ahead of the blend. Mind you they were both in the same area and she poured in that order. Not to mention all wines were Zinfandel.

Plantbased A.

Yelp
Meh. If you like Zins & want to try a few, this might be a good option for you. The wines were fine, but the initial guy we had pouring for us acted as if he were completely bored to deal with "customers" and questions. Fortunately, on our 4th and last taste he asked someone to take over and at least we got a smile and a bit about the wine other than the name. I really wouldn't have cared, but considering they have a $10 tasting fee (which you only get back if you walk out with 2 bottles) for a 4 taste flight - I sort of expected more. With so many other wineries in the area, I doubt we'll be back. All our other stops were engaging, friendly, and had a cracker or something to munch on.

HM N.

Yelp
I think Turley is in the wrong wine region. Amador County wineries are low key, down to earth, humble and personable. I think it should be in Napa. Not only are their Zins overpriced, they only offer 4 tastings for $10..and their Zins aren't even as good as the others in Amador County (who offer more wine on their tasting menu with no or lower tasting fees btw). The old woman who was tending the day we visited got a bit cocky too - touting how so many fancy restaurants supposedly carry their wine. Well, I lived in San Francisco for a long time where I had my fair share of Michelin-star rated dining experiences and I have never noticed Turley on the wine menus. Service was also slow for a mid-week visit. I would not come back here. They're very boring and overpriced.

Lesley T.

Yelp
Good wines, wonderful people, great entertainment, a must stop by wine tasting in Plymouth

Tony R.

Yelp
Went in to get my wine club order and had a good time. An older lady (cannot remember her name) helped us and was very nice. Received an overview on the local towns "homecoming party" that was in full swing. The new tasting room is spacious and nice. Rated four stars as their customer communication is lacking in regards to the "pick up party" versus normal pick up in regards to wine club orders. Great wines!

Anita M.

Yelp
We were on out way to Tahoe for a ski weekend and decided to stop at Turley on the way up. GREAT decision! We walked in on a Thursday afternoon so it was slow and Vicki greeted us with a great big smile. Her knowledge and passion for the wine was very evident. We have had Turley before, but she had some we have never tasted so now we have more favoities!! The wine tasting room was nice with a few extras to purchase if you desired. Some really neat wood products including wine barrel furniture that looked to be high quality. We WILL go back. Maybe in the summer like Vicki suggested with some friends and check out the whole area! Thanks Vicki for a very nice afternoon!

Nate S.

Yelp
Several visits here. I am so glad that Turley has an outpost here, not too long a drive for us. Importantly, their presence serves to raise the bar for local wines. Bluntly stated, Amador wineries are mostly amateur-hour material, underperforming and coasting on regional mystique, history, and the fact that since few of them are any good, they don't need to try very hard. Things are changing, albeit gradually. Some standard-bearers such as Easton have always been the exception that proves the rule. Others are focusing and stepping it up to show a truer expression of what the region can offer. The Turley tasting room offers their Amador wines, as well as some from other regions, as well as multi-region blends. Do yourself a favor and stop by this easy-to-find spot to sample some of California's best Zinfandels (and others) soon

Angela H.

Yelp
Wine is good, but does not warrant the pricing. Katie who served us was lovely and very knowledgeable. However, to buy a case of wine and be offered no discount, and to be asked to give a gratuity was insulting.

Veronica T.

Yelp
We had a focused wine tasting with Meredith! She was great. Her knowledge of the different regions and vineyards is impressive. It was interesting to have side by side tastings of the regions. We enjoyed the tasting very much. Don't miss stopping in here when in Amador!

Latrobe H.

Yelp
Honestly by far the worse customer service in the area. Even with current situation other wineries allow for you to become a member and purchase wine. Here I was told if you aren't a member we can't sell you any wine. Mind you I live a couple miles away and have purchased a good amount of wine here. Just really bad customer service for average wine.

Sara R.

Yelp
Would give 0 stars I I could!! They say they close at 5pm, but we got there at 4:31pm and they said they would not let us taste after 4:30pm. I will never come back to this place again with sub terrible customer service!!!

Anne-Marie O.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in for a tasting, excited to try a new place. Well, the lady pouring acted as if we were bothering her by our mere existence. Plus the tasting fee is pretty steep for the small amount of wine they pour. If you're going to be snooty and high priced, maybe you belong in Napa instead of Amador.

Rick D.

Yelp
We drove from out-of-state and did a sweep through Napa. To complete the trip, we had plans to attend the release party on Oct 24. The night before I got very ill and the following morning I was in no shape to drink wine or be social. Allison, the host, gladly refunded the party-fee on the spot without the req'd 72 hr notice. We still picked up our order and bought a few library wines. Very sad to miss the party but once I feel better, I have all of this wonderful Turley wine. Which one is first??? hmmm.

Frank S.

Yelp
Excellent wines. Staff was good except for one younger girl that had a "napa" attitude. The other lady was great and we stayed with her and ignored the attitude from the other. stopped by again day 2 and there was a new lady there that was a true 5 star. Fantastic. She was one of the main managers and apologized for the other employee the day before. She has been in the bay area for a wine event.
